Damn you cleartemp!!! Help please! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Im soo pissed off right now.
So here is the situation. I'm hoping that I can quickly find help for the battle that me and my AT&T Tilt WM 6.1 are going through.
The name of the war -
CLEARTEMP ERASED EVERYTHING!!!!
So im at work on my office phone when my Tilt (which was in my holster on my hip) started vibrating... in three buzzes. I thought it was a message so I didnt answer right away.
5 minutes later I take out my phone to see who sent me a message but for some reason instead of seeing the S2U2 screen there was a "are you sure you want to?" block asking if i wanted to erase one of my programs because it was a unistalled registry, so the first thing i did was say no...... IT DID THAT FOR ABOUT 28 TO 30 DIFFERENT PROGRAMS!!!
Afterwards I exited out of Cleartemp to see if the programs were still on my phone but to my surprise not only were all of my programs gone but my storage card was completely erased and their was no settings folder and the only thing left in the programs folder was Games, tool box, file explorer and that fu3kin Media net.
I would have simply hard reset and used my sprite backup but there was no settings folder to get to the hard reset and my storage card was wiped completely clean.
so now i cant even hard reset and start from the ground up.
What can i do?
THANKS IN ADVANCE for taking the time to scratch your head in curiosity with me.
I would appreciate anyones help in helping me get through this War!!!

Yeah man ClearTemp F'ed up my phone once too! Not nearly as bad as yours though, sorry to hear that.
ANyways, just hard reset using your soft keys and stylus. To do this, hold down your 2 soft keys they ones with the little horizontal dash on them the ones above the IE and mail icon buttons.
So push and hold those in with two fingers of one hand,
then with your other hand hit the soft reset button with your stylus.
Release the soft reset button and keep pressing the soft keys.
When the "This operation will delete all your personal data, to manufacturer default" appears on screen.
Press Green call button to restore manufacturer default,
or press Red call button to cancel.

had it happen to me as well
I had the same thing happen to me as well a week back, but fortunately I had just gotten a new card,so I recopyed all the info off my old card onto my new one... Im not sure why clear temp does that... but I dont want to use it again.. it has problems.
Hope you can restore it all the same!

I had the same problem lost a lot of mp3s and also my backups that were in the SD!! i was fortunate to find some old backup file and a SD card mirror folder on my computer and restored all, now i make sure i have both my internal storage and SD card copied to my computer.

Same issue. I ran cleartemp, my phone froze. I rebooted it and my storage card was corrupted. I lost most of the stuff on it. No more cleartemp for me, I now manually clean up ****.

Ditto.
Can anyone suggest any alternative auto-cleanup apps?

Theres a reason they call it flash-storage...
Never ever use SD/MMC/CF/USB Memstick/Other Flash-style-media for critical information or backups...
On another note I have been using cleartemp for nearly a year in a cooked rom and have never had a problem.

sms taking 5 mins to open!! PLZ HELP

Ive been having some problems with my tmo wing lately in terms of extreem lagging. Ever since I have used pocket mechanic to defrag my storage card, everything went to sh1t on my phone. I cant boot my phone with my storage card in the slot or it will just reset when it gets to the green windows mobile background. And most importantly, whenever I open "Messages" on my phone, it takes honestly 5 or more minutes to open, then another 5 to open sms/mms then another 5 mins to open/reply to a sms. My program memory is usualy always ATLEAST over 10MB and I had batery status running and while i was opening these windows at the task bar it showed it was using 0% or minimal processor usage, so im assuming that it's not executing properly... does someone have a fix for this? can someone help me out? because to temporarely fix the issue i have to reboot the phone... thanks!
- Norman
Here's something you should try.
Remove the card then insert it into a card reader at your computer. Copy everything on it and then format the card using FAT16.
Now back-up everything possible on the phone. (in your case this could take a while). Place the back-up file on the computer, if you use the card for back-up reformat it again after you complete the process. Then hard reset the phone and check to see if it still has this problem. Place the empty card inside the phone and try to copy some stuff to it. If everything is ok, restore your files using that back-up you just made. Check to see if the problem manifests now. If it does, clearly there is something rong with your program configuration and you may want to reinstall all your programs manually.
If the phone still runs slow after a master reset you should try to rewrite the phone's ROM as a last resort option. (your back-up copy woun't work after this). If it still runs slow even after this, then... well that's bad. It's something I call "the dead slow card problem". I've tried to find a fix for this for about 3 years on different htc products, but with no succes. The good part is that there's a very small chance this can happen in the normal every day usage. Try this things first and tell me what happens.
wow... Before i even attempt this surgery, i just want to say thank you very much for taking the time to write all this. it's very appreciated.
Before i try all this, i got a few Qs.
What do i use to back up my stuff on my device? or do i just copy paste important stuff... if so what about extensions and associated files...
And what involves a hard reset? does it effect the registry tweaks that i have done? in the end... what will be reset?
- Norman
I really appreciate ur help! ive done as u said and everything seems fine now... my phone is now back to scratch, which im happy with so I can start fresh and avoid all that junk I had on before... THANKS FOR UR HELP! UVE BEEN GREAT! A+

having major problems with my tilt

stock rom and everything, just no bloatware.
this morning it worked perfect, about 2 hours later is all retarted.
1)the backlight is dim and doesnt get as bright as its supposed to unless i plug it in
2)when i slide the phone open the screen doesnt flip the other way
3)getting multiple "cannot execute" errors of clocknot.exe, repllog.exe, calnot.exe. these pop up and i have to click OK 20+ times and less than a minute later they came back on again. actually now i cant even get them to go away.
4)i left my phone alone for a while after realizing something was wrong with it and when i came back to it was just constantly vibrating, i dont know for how long but it killed 60% of my battery.
software i installed is just your basic stuff, tomtom, touchflo cube, htc touch dialer and touch today setup, htc home customizer and battery status and i think thats pretty much it.
anybody have any idea on what might have happened? like i said, the phone worked perfect this morning. i put it down, went a swim, came back and it wasnt working right so i did a soft reset and it didnt fix anything. i put it back down, took a nap, came back and it was vibrating and then i did another soft reset and thats when i got all the error messages. so i did another soft reset and still doesnt want to work.
wait, now for some reason it seems to be OK after another soft reset. I DONT GET IT.
so now i received and sent a text message and then closed the phone, it locked and turned the screen off. i then put it on the charged and the screen wouldnt turn back on now matter what button i pushed. but the lights on top blinked and when i opened it the keyboard lit up. so once again....another soft reset
you probably should hard reset your phone. but be aware that it will erase evrything on ur phone and return it back the way it was, so backup ur info
Yes, I second that. Make sure to back up your data before hard-resetting, though, as you will lose it all (contacts, files, everything).
To hard reset the phone, press and hold the two soft keys (buttons on the front that have a dash on them; next to the send and end buttons) while pushing the stylus into the reset hole in the bottom. If you do it correctly, a white screen will come up asking you if you want to do this, and just follow the steps until it is finished.
Please post back and tell us the result.

Use the latest version of "SPB backup" to backup all data before you hard reset and you restore the all applications after a hard reset or even a ROM Upgrade.
P.S: I don't work for SPB... I just like the software

Don't just back everything up as you may just re-introduce the problem on restore!
Back up your contacts and volotile data only (sync it with Outlook if you use it).
Hard reset and then install 1 app/util at a time and test the device each time to check stability.
Hang on a second...
Before you hard-reset...
Open your favorite file explorer application (I use GSFinder, but the default WM6 File Explorer should be fine), and browse to the Storage Card folder. If there's more than one, keep reading.
I store lots of applications on the microSD card itself, and I often take the card out of the Tilt, and put it into a card reader for faster file transfer. Sometimes, this results in the Tilt thinking I have multiple microSD cards when I put it back in. I haven't quite nailed down what causes this (I haven't searched, either, the answer might be on XDA-dev somewhere).
The end result is, the Tilt is looking for stuff that isn't in the /Storage Card folder. Instead, the phone recognizes the card as /Storage Card2 or /Storage Card3.
I have run into the EXACT same problem you've got, with the same errors. Every time, I've been able to correct it by removing the physical card, and then deleting all the /Storage Card (1,2,3) folders that are still on the phone.
After you do that, just insert the card again, and it will be recognized as simply /Storage Card without any numbers after it. Now the applications will work properly, as WM6 will be looking at the right folders.
ok sorry, havent been back on. phone was working great until last night and then it started acting up again. after multiple soft resets it started working fine again this morning.
there is only one storage card listed so thats not my problem but thank you for the idea.
looks like ill just take any stuff of the phone i want when i get home and do a hard reset. do they replace these phones for software issues with a stock ROM?
happened again, should i try to see if they will replace the phone?
anyone know if i need to call to do that or do i need to go to a certified at&t place?
If you are using the Stock ROM and have performed a hard reset and it still has problems then return it under warranty.

There are no more certified ATT places around here, everything is by phone and mail. If it is still under warranty thats what I would do if you are unsure of it's long term condition.
i am still stock ROM. it locked up on me again yesterday and i did a hard reset. hopefully it wont happen again. i dont feel like customizing my phone from scratch yet again

Tilt very very unresponsive today.

Its not letting me receive any calls. Because by the time I press "Accept" it becomes unresponsive for like a couple of mins and the call has already ended.
Its taking forever to load any apps too. It takes forever to open the Programs folder or the Settings folder. Everything takes like a min on the phone now.
I don't know what has caused this. It was working fine yesterday. I haven't installed any new apps either.
I have the HTC stock ROM downloaded from this website. I've had it installed for a few months now without a problem.
Can someone please help me in understanding whats causing this?
I've restarted the phone a few times now. The boot time is around 15 mins for some reason. It stays at the Window Mobile 6 screen for 15 mins before starting up.
Hard reset anyone?
Is that the only solution?
I'm sick of this and slowing turning anti-windows.
Some times things need to be refreshed. Don't be scared, it will be ok.

Somebody please explain to us that this slowness/unresponsiveness is unique for the TYTN II?! Should I expect the same from a HTC Touch or a Samsung?

Have you, by chance, been experimenting with network folders? I saw something similar with the file explorer, after I had connected to a network drive at home. It was trying to reconnect while I was away from the home network.
You should expect it from any electronic device like this. Maybe not 100% of the time and not 100% of them, but things like this do happen. There are too many things trying to live in harmony and not step on each others feet for there to never be a problem.
Do a hard reset and see what happens. If it doesn't solve your problem then it's time to look into a warranty claim. If you can use the phone, just backup your numbers and then reset. It's really easy and doesn't take much time to get things back to normal.

I didn't touch any of the system folders. In fact, nothing was done to the phone since yesterday except send/receive phone calls and play Solitaire.
If you don't reset it then don't complain.

I've done this (hard reset) before and I have every right to complain. Not trying to be a troll, but sometimes I feel I should've bought an iP***e instead.
Right now I'm trying to take a backup of my files on the Storage card, but Total Commander is unresponsive (trying to copy 5 files for the past 30 mins).
I know I'll eventually hard reset this thing, but I'm just pissed right now.
So you don't think people have to hard reset their iphones? I laugh in your general direction.
If you can't make or receive calls, send or receive text messages, or access email or the web
Check the cell signal indicator in the status bar at the top of the screen. If there are no bars, or if it says "No service," try moving to a different location. If you're indoors, try going outdoors or moving closer to a window.
Check to make sure you’re in an area with network coverage. Go to your carrier's website to see network coverage areas.
Make sure airplane mode isn't on. From the Home screen choose Settings, then turn Airplane Mode off.
If that doesn't work, turn airplane mode on, wait 15 seconds, then turn airplane mode off again.
Make sure to include an area code for every phone number in your contacts list that you use to send or receive text messages.
If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: If you enter the SIM PIN incorrectly three times, you may need to contact your carrier for a Personal Unlocking Key (PUK) to enable your SIM card again.
If that doesn't work, there may be an issue with your wireless service. Call your carrier or go to your carrier's website.
If that doesn't work, restore the iPhone software. See this document or see "Updating and Restoring iPhone Software" in the iPhone User's Guide.

Come on now. You know what I meant. I wasn't trying to imply that at all. I was just venting. Sorry if it offended anyone.
is it possible that its just having trouble reading the sd card (if you have one?) maybe the file system is becoming corrupt on the card and its constantly trying to read it?..

I thought about this. I tried using the phone without the SD card. But the behavious was the same. Currently I'm hard resetting it
So how did it go?
Just finished hard resetting it. The phone works now. Fortunately I had an export of my contacts in an XML file (using a .NET utility that I wrote.) Unfortunately, I haven't written the import part of the utility yet
The phone works, but my docs and pics are gone. The SD card works fine. Thanks for your help guys.
Outlook works nice for backing up contacts and there is also a program you run from your phone that does the same thing. I think it's PIM backup
use cleartemp from now on to clear unneeded items on every start up
it is pim back up
its the BEST

Do a hard reset by holding down the two softkeys and pushing the reset button on the bottom, keep the softkeys held till the unit acts like it's resetting. It's things like that that make me not use Cleartemp, Memmaid, or any of those other "registry cleaning" programs - they tend to screw things up more than help IMO. Sucks though.
Yeah, that's a real bummer, sorry to hear about that. In my opinion, cleartemp is alright, but some options in the program are very smart to avoid, like registry functions. I have tried the hard reset by keys method that many websites have suggested, however many do not work for me anyway. For my Tilt, I have to hold the two soft keys on the front with "-" on them, press the stylus in the reset hole, hold it in for a few secs, pull it out, and then without releasing the two soft keys, press the power button and follow the on screen instructions. I hope that helps you, and good luck,
Dave
Also try one of the many file recovery tools out there to recover your erased data on your sd card.
most data when erased isnt actually gone untill new data is written on top of it. dodm writes binary to every sector of a drive and then wipes it clean in between 7 times and even then its possible to retrieve data with a lab.
thats why they say to destroy all drives physically if it contains confidential data. Ive used different freeware and trial ware apps in the past to recover lost data from curropted or accidentally formatted drives and have recovered some if not all my data. just make sure you only imediately remove that sd card (keep the os from writting junk to it)and only insert it into a card reader when your ready to try to recover it.
I googled sdhc file recovery
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=restore+sdhc+recovery&aq=f&oq=
lots of things came back unfortanetly I cant remeber the name of the app I last used but a little reading and hopefully you can recover your sprite settings.
I hate to play devil's advocate here, but this post sounds surprisingly like what would happen if someone had their phone stolen and was using a security program to delete all information in such a case. A text message, then no programs, no data, nothing...
I'm not saying that this is definitely the case, but it is something to consider. That being said.... if you haven't messed with your SD, you can try some sort of recovery software on a PC to get your information back. It will copy block for block info from your SD to anohter location. As long as you haven't tried rewriting over your SD, you may have a good chance of recovering your backup.
THANK YOU!!
Thanks to everyone for the response and patience in helping me get through this situation. What I actually did was go to file explorer, searched for the hard-reset cab. and pressed on the "ink."
That did a hard-reset and luckily every time I save a program to my phone I make a copy and save it to a flash drive. So basically I'm in the process of re-customizing my phone to the way it was before..... (hopefully, lol)
But once again Thank you to every one for there support.

Diamond Reset Itself, Locked Main Memory, Much More!

Hi, I've been trying to track some answers down all day about this, and I have no idea what's going on.
Last night, my phone was being a little slow, so I held the power button down and rebooted it. When it turned back on, it asked me to calibrate the screen and asked me if I wanted a password, and when I was finished, my SPB Mobile Shell didn't launch, and I noticed that I had no contacts, texts, or e-mails anymore.
However, it keeps on telling me that my storage memory is critically low. My theory is that my data is all there, I just can't access it for some weird reason. I ca actually use my old ringtones, so it wasn't a complete hard reset.
At first, I tried to hard reset the phone, but I don't have the "clear storage" application at all, so that's out. My next step was to try and see if I could somehow et someone at the phone store to flash it, but they just told me I had to buy out my contract because they are dicks. Big ones.
So I went home and tried to flash my ROM back to stock, so that at least I could erase the storage memory and restore some semblance of functionality, but I can't even do that. When I try to use Sync, the phone won't work, and on my Windows 7 machine, I can see that I have used 100% of the storage memory, and the drive is completely locked. I can't remove files from the computer, nor on the phone itself.
I tried to flash the thing, but even when I put it into the bootloader mode, the Flashing stops at 0% and nothing ever happens.
The phone is a CDMA Diamond 500, with MTS as the carrier. I just want to have access to that drive, is there any possible way to do this? Any info would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thank you to anyone who helps me out!
Just a quick note:
I found another person exhibiting this exact problem, but his problem was solved by hard resetting the phone. I can't hard reset my phone through ordinary means as described above, but is there any other way, like from the bootloader or by using hardware buttons? If I could hard reset, I think I could fix this whole mess.
Never mind, I managed to get it done.
Nothing to see here, folks.
I would use "Microsoft My phone" to back up my contacts and photos docs etc on your device drive. I'm not sure that a hard reset would even effect your "internal storage" so it's worth a shot.. You can find a .cab in the marketplace for the program. I know whenever I flash my phone it doesn't effect my Internal storage.
Sorry... to hard reset from bootloader hold down the volume down button and the center Touch wheel button and power button when you turn it on.
