So, I just got my G1 back after it stayed for a week in this Chinese repair shop. The Chinese men were not successful.
I'm just about to leave for the T-Mobile store. After I figure whether the warranty is in effect, I will come up with a clever reuse to trick the T-Mo man into sending in my brick for repair.
What's the best lie to tell?
Hi,
I was too careless to follow directions and ended up bricking my phone.
Can you give another G1, so I can do the same?
thanks
I'm afraid that won't work. Unless I pay the salesman like $50 to keep his mouth shut.
Just tell them you got an OTA and it never booted back up. Must have been a corrupt download or something.
So I can just tell them I was updating to cupcake and it won't boot?

This is the best one. It's more efficient if you do it over the phone.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of just going to the store, since it's on my way to work. What's the downside of telling them in person?

Pretty much, just leave out the "I was updating.." bit. Blame the phone. "It said there was an update available. I hit OK, and it went dark..."
wddglr has a good idea about calling to save the trip. And a funny quote too.
EDIT: Missed your reply. Well, I don't have a store within an hour of me, so I would always wind up calling. If you have the choice though.. Might be easier to pull it off without worrying about the look on your face. Not sure of any other downsides, since I never deal with any stores.
Alright thanks so much. Since it's on my way to work, I'll just stop by at the T-Mo store and tell them. Hopefully my warranty is still in effect...
I literally just went through this if you've had you're g1 for less than a year just call tech support and they will send you a new one free of charge (you might have to pay the shipping depending on your insurence plan) good luck.
Thanks for the reply Supergoat. WAIT, you have to have an insurance plan to get it repaired?!?! Warranty alone doesn't work?!?!
I think he's implying that you might need to pay for shipping on warranty swaps if you don't have insurance. Not that you need insurance for the warranty itself.
And I think that only applies on the phone anyway.. I've heard stories of people swapping in person, doubt they'd charge shipping then. Good luck.

This may be a stupid question, but do you have to return the old one?
I just got off the phone with them, and they told me they can't do anything since I bought the phone from craigslist. He gave me HTC's phone number and told me to call them, since they will be able to do something. I'll call tomorrow morning since they're closed now, and see what they say. The T-Mobile representative said he doesn't know how much they'll charge or if they'll charge me at all. Hopefully this works out.
I had a similar situation since I also bought my phone off craigslist. HTC kinda gives you that threatening if they notice anything was modified on the phone you get charged bit. I was fortunately able to downgrade the phone to an RC29 (are you sure you shouldn't be attempting to throw that on instead of 7) then I upgraded it up with normal rc33 then cupcake. They took it and replaced my mainboard (my phone was overheating and unable to charge a battery fortunately the T-Mobile star gave me one of the stores batterys from a display device which gave me enough time to downgrade and get back up to cupcake) and didn't charge me anything so I lucked out. Goodluck!
I just got off the phone with HTC. Before I bricked my G1, it was RC29. They sent me shipping instructions and everything, and said I should be paying only for shipping, and $39 or less for repair. Hopefully everything goes well. I'll post my results.
Sometimes you can lie and say you bought the phone from a tmobile authorized dealer and they will swap it out. Just say it was a t a booth in the mall. This has worked for me in the past.
Also for the info on TMobiles warranty policy, if the phone was bought from them or a authorized dealer they will replace the phone for free, if you tell them the thing won't turn on they will not make you go thru more then taking out the battery and SD Card then putting the battery back in. If you tell them the phone will power on they walk you thru a bunch of steps. On a couple of my exchanges the rep sent me out a new phone, battery and wall charger.
You do have to send the broken one back, they send you a shipping label with the refurb phone they send you. Within the first year of owning a new phone with TMobile, insurance is only used if the phone is lost/stolen, water damaged, you broke it on purpose or you tell them strait out "i was flashing the newest JACHero ROM and blam it bricked!"
just call and say your phone isnt working. thye will try to wipe it, tell them its not working. they will send you a box with the new phone. you send back th eother one. dont say **** you dont have to. just keep it simple. DO NOT TELL THEM ITS ROOTED.
Well I'm going to ship it to HTC today, and they should be replacing it for free (I hope). I did go through HTC with this, not T-Mobile. T-Mo kicked me after I told them I didn't buy it from them. I told HTC I bought it from a private seller and they were like "ok that's cool."
I too once freaked out (not to be confused with my earlier freekeout) when my JFroot-to-cyanogen-to-hero theme went AWRY, and bricked at the g1 logo....
I sat there thinking of how much I screwed this one up, and promptly realized that insurance covers anything....and yes I will say, ANYTHING.
there is no limit to a customers stupidity
so without hesitation i made my 13 minute drive.
waited 10 minutes for a tmobile rep. explained that i booted up my phone this morning and it never booted after 2 hours of pocket time....also threw in that ive been on hold for a good hour restarting and trying differnt tricks...
without any hesitation, she typed up a few things, checked in the back and i was onm my way....
she said that if anything happens to bring it back, and if the next 3 brick aswell, then they will automagically give me a NEW phone....IE DIFFERENT model...as to keep who she repeatedly referred to me as a good "customer" happy
so im psyched. they don't know how lucky they were. and my new (seemingly) faster dream are back at it...
just biding time for that XDA app to get out of beta (or atleast become more stabile)
So I got an OTA update the other day from T-Mobile. Applied the update and the phone rebooted. The phone no longer goes past the T-Mobile G1 screen. I tried troubleshooting myself and explained everything to T-Mobile on the phone to Tech Support. They wanted me to troubleshoot as well. I tried booting into recovery. I tried the home+power and the camera+power and the phone just starts and stops at the T-Mobile G1 screen.i know it's probably bricked but was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I asked tech support if I could get a replacement phone being that my G1 is still under warranty, they said no that the phone had to be returned within 14 days after purchasing it. What's the deal with this crap? Any thoughts and answers are much greatly appreciated!
Well a couple options, take it to the store, call t-mobile and tell them to eat your nuts since it was their software that bricked it or google up the corporate number and ***** and ***** till they agree to a replacement, don't curse or they will hang up on you really quickly

Yep everything he said, but also what they told you on the phone is crap. T-mo should replace it even after the 14 days. They did for me, just don't take no for an answer.

Sounds like you got a stupid T-mo rep. Call back and tell them your phone is messed up... as long as you bought it directly from them, they will send you a replacement (minus the battery, sim card, and battery cover), and you will send back your phone (minus the aforementioned parts). Done.

true.. make sure you remove your microSD as well.. i had to send back my samsung blast and left an 8gig stick in there... needless to say i was a little upset lol
Haha **** that, I know someone that got 3 [wink wink didn't think you'd like me saying your name] you can get your 1 replaced. Just keep asking do not stop. It's not a piece of chocolate its a $300.00 phone first of all and second of all it was they're update. Good luck!
Nah it's cool, it's no hiding that I am on my 3rd g1, I am not ashamed to say i 've bricked, this way I can say I am making sure someone doesn't repeat mine or anyone elses mistakes.
Also mine were all within the 14 day buyer's remorse. Oh and the cutest on xda, I prefer the most handsome, meanest pimp that has ever pimped on this planet, and I got a mean limp. Return policy on G1's with warranty
Ok,so I bought the phone from a private individual but the T-mobile software is what actually bricked my G1. I was sad for about a day and am now getting over it slowly. I am currently using my Samsung SGH-t229 which was the free piece o' crap from T-Mobile. Thanks for all the response guys! I really appreciate all the comments and reading all the funny jokes and all. Anyways...if any of you have any ideas on returning the phone let me know. I keep calling T-Mobile and they say I can't return it and get a new one because I bought the phone from a private individual. Any ideas? Hit me up or let me know. TTYL guys!
hmmm... ok, let me have some opinions on this, I am running fresh 2.3.3, oc 710, clear lock screen. At about 12 noon yesterday my touch screen stopped responding, BUT only at the top exactly where the notification bar is, I know this because I turned on Nexus Revamped Pro LWP and in settings I set the particles to spawn where I touch, I have not been able to pull down my notification bar since yesterday! Ok, stop and think of how inconvenient that is! Anyways, I have gone so far now as to wipe everything and go back to stock fresh 2.3.3(no kernel or any theming) and it still wont work, oh, sometimes when I go to hit the phone soft key(bottom of screen) THE DAMN NOTIFICATION BAR JUMPS DOWN! I am going nuts trying to solve this, the phone was dropped once two days after I got it(almost a year ago) and it has had a Zagg screen protector on it until yesterday because I thought that it might be causing the problem. So there is my rant with some information on the problem stuck in there, anyone have any ideas let me know before tomorrow morning, I will have to go back to stock and unroot so I can go to Best Buy(not so Best Buy) to exchange it.
Wrong forum, try a different rom. but I would unroot and take it back

I had the same problem a few few months ago. The same thing with the notification bar would not slide down, but if you press anywhere on the screen it will. I dealt with for a day or two until I couldn't take it anymore. I reverted back to stock 2.1 and went to the sprint store to get it fixed. The technicians there never heard about this problem and they couldn't fix it. Luckily I was still under a 1 year HTC warrenty, so they just exchanged it with no problem. Hope this helps you out, and good luck.

Well, I tried 4 roms and stock 1.5 and 2.1 today and finally unrooted back to 1.5, I still am within my one year HTC warranty, I payed for a warranty at best buy(boooo!) and I happen to be out of town right now, so I go to the store here and they try to tell me I am not paying for the replacement program or warranty, AND I HAD ALL MY PAPERWORK IN FRONT OF THEM, so they finally said no we wont exchange it but we will send it off, it will be 3-4 weeks and we aren't giving you a loaner, so I said no and they gave me a special receipt and told me to go to any Sprint store and they would replace it....ANOTHER LIE, I went to FOUR stores scattered across Houston until a store even looked at it, I explained the issue and the said ok our tech will replace your screen or we will give you a new one it will be 30 min., ANOTHER LIE, 2 hours and 26 min later I was handed my phone by the tech and told that he had updated me to 2.1 and that my phone was fine, LIE. FIRST of all my screen wouldnt even unlock by touch(had to menu, menu) second I could still not get a proper response from my screen or even touch the T.B., second as soon as I turned the screen on it asked me to DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE, he didnt address the problem that he was told was there, he lied about doing the update, I lost it on this lazy ass, so he took my phone again, had it for under 3 min this time, brought it back and said here I updated it, I cant fix it, I cant give you one from our stock, you will have one in 3-4 days, again no loaner, THE UPDATE WAS STILL NOT EVEN DOWNLOADED, AND ONLY HALF OF MY BATTERY COVER WAS ATTACHED,I AM 376 MILES FROM MY WIFE AND 2 KIDS WITH NO PHONE. So at this point I just want to say, F*@# Sprint and F*@# Best Buy, I pay thousands a year for warrantys and bills, have payed at least the double the retail of my phone just in insurance(between our two lines) and you A$$'s reniged on everything that extra I pay for, when I do get my new one I will be canceling all insurance and warrantys and in 5 months when my contract is up IM GONE, you people have never done anything to honor your customer service agreements and I dont think I have ever heard anyone with a positive experience, SO F*@# YOU!!!! Ok my rant is done, just wanted to say to anyone even considering Sprint, dont do it unless you have the cash to just buy a new phone at full price if anything happens, they will screw you any way possible, been with them for coming up 5 years and they dont give a damn about anyone, RUN AWAY WHILE YOU CAN.
The actions of few almost never speak for the quality and character of All.
I've never had a problem with my service that wasn't resolved within an hour and a half by a sprint representative. I used to have the rumor and I soaked it once(replaced), my mother broke her screen and got it replaced, one time my charger port got so jacked up that they had to give me a new phone and the Rep offered to give me his old phone, ofcourse I said no and thanked him but that shows there are good folk in the company we have been buying service from for the better part of a decade.
I would gladly change my opinion if I ever saw a change in how they handle my wife and I as customers, I have just not seen it... OH, PLEASE tell me what store to go to, seriously, no sarcasm, I will go if its close(houston area), it is just very stressful and insulting to pay what we pay believing that they will hold up their end and being openly lied to...I know that my little flame out does not speak for everyone, it just helps to get it out.....XDA Group Therapy LMAO
I don't think I will ever buy a phone from best buy... If you try and have any warranty service done it seems to be a hassle for must people. Luckily I by my phones directly from sprint and I've never had a problem.

Ok, last update on my situation, I will try not to freak out, I am highly upset.
So, after days with a non-functioning phone, I go to the store and first of all, why does it take 15 min to walk behind the counter and pick up a packaged phone when I am the only customer in the store? OK, so my "New" phone came in, great right, wrong! I take care of my things, I am an adult that likes nice things and cant afford many, so when I get something I want I take extremely good care of it, my Hero was immaculate, spotless, and I have had it since a couple month after release, what they brought me was ****, it has scratches all over the screen(which is funny because he made a big deal asking me if I wanted the "screen plastic" taken off), the back cover has scratches on it, the back cover has a crack in it and is warped to the point that it will not stay on completely and there is a gap between the back cover and the phone, the metal band around the phone is loose, the hardware buttons are lose, I dont know who would call this a new phone but the poor thing has been badly abused, I almost feel bad for this poor Hero. So there it is, my experience yet again with Sprint and best buy. I feel like with the amount of money that I have payed total for "insurance" I should not be given a trashed piece of hardware. Sprint, is not all bad, I personally just have not had a good experience with them. Just be careful people.
So i have been having issues with my device. The device will shut off, sometimes not charge properly and the device will die and i will have to unplug the battery and plug it back in to power cycle the device and for it to register a charge. So i decided to call and explain this to the "tech" the moment i mentioned that i opened the device and did this they said i had "voided" my warranty and i would have to contact Asus.
Yeah. I voided my warranty by popped open the back and unplugged the battery. This is how i was treated. Also.. I then request a supervisor who then states the same thing.. they give me a "mercy" repair and then proceed to setup a repair, but they have "noted" that i have voided my warranty by "messing with the internal components, and that the back was not made to be opened." That if they verify that i have "messed with this" i will be charged the full amount for the replacement device.
Seriously? I am fuming right now. they pretty much made me feel like i had broken a law by opening up their PLASTIC device. the back is held on by clips.. no screws, warranty stick, or any other type of method of removal. I was told that the "normal" consumer would never do that... and that i definitely voided my warranty.. I am so peeved right now i could hit something. Seriously?!
Good job Google. Your first major device made by "you" and this is how you treat your customer. Thank god i'm an Apple user and i was an ex-Applecare rep and RULE 1, you never accuse the customer of doing anything. You never make them feel like some inept POS because you popped off a battery cover. WOW. Last Google product i buy. Seriously. I have never had a customer experience where i was berated on the phone as some sort of villain.. by 2 "techs" Not only that.. the "supervisor" said .."oh sir, it's not that easy to pop the back off.. you really have to get IN THERE"
Peeved. XDA has anyone been treated like that by them? I thought the Nexus line was for the "tech savy" you know the ones that can root, unlock, and develop.. yet i was treated like a criminal for doing some basic trouble shooting. I told the tech on the phone.. what if i had bought this 2nd hand and couldn't turn it on.. the SERIAL NUMBER IS ON THE INSIDE LID.. she just said.. "well i understand that.. but you still voided your warranty.."
WOW.
google should let people play as long as they dont short it out.

Is there any documentation that came bundled with your device that clearly provides instructions for how to remove the back cover and how to disconnect the battery? does the device even have a battery that is user removable and replaceable ?
no to both and you knew that... you had to search for information online to perform that and you still did it knowing full well that wasn't allowed.
the moment your device showed any signs of issues you should have contacted Google to get an RMA
Warranty is present on our devices with rules in place. you broke the rules and then admitted to it to a tech and expect something different?
You are not supposed to open the cover plain and simple, if you expect the company that sold it to you to honor the warranty which means they trust you haven't touched anything inside then you leave it alone and always contact them for service. that's your complete circle..
Open your device and you lose that ability because now it is assumed A. you have touched or modified something, B. you know what you are doing since you have opened the device up.
They have no idea what you have done, you expect them to just take your word for it? I'd love to see that fly at the dealership on your new car... "Yea the engine blew, it was making a ticking sound but before notifying you guys I went ahead and took the engine cover off and looked around and also changed a few things but i still have my warranty right? kthnxbai
The Nexus line has nothing to do with being for people that are tech savy... thats just the general consensus of people that choose ANDROID over IOS.
People buy the Nexus line because they want the full unmodified Google experience AND the latest OS updates from Google plain and simple.
Either play by their rules and leave the device alone and if it has issues notify them, get an RMA and send it back that's what they are there for. not to clean up the mess that happens after you touched the device in a way you weren't supposed to.
Even if you didn't do anything other than open the cover, how are they supposed to know? just trust you?
Why did they accuse you? because like an idiot you just told them straight up yes I opened the device even though I know i'm not supposed to.
Lucky they gave you the mercy repair....
Well i feel for you brother, it's not like you broke the device yourself...that said it's pretty clear the back cover is not designed to be removed by consumers, and you really should have known that disconnecting the battery could technically void your warranty.
While some companies may be lenient with their warranty policies, you certainly shouldn't expect it; so to admit.that you played around with the internals was a little naive i'm afraid. I remember hearing a story about techs at one company being instructed to look for rooted phones that had been sent in so that the warranty could be voided (because technically rooting was a breach of conditions).
But look, you might get lucky and they won't charge you if the fault is obviously not your fault. I hope it works out for you.
I'd have been more surprised if they did NOT void the warranty when you told them that. Its pretty common sense that you should not tell techs that you have opened a device.

Sounds to me like you were treated as someone who voided his warranty. Which is exactly what you did. Sounds fair to me.
It's your responsibility to know what voids the warranty, and you're trying to make others suffer for your mistake.
And the tech savvy people know that when they open up and mess with their devices, they're on their own.
FYI, the Nexus 7 back cover is not made to be just popped off like many phone back covers so you probably damaged something as well.
Taking the back off the N7 does not void the warranty. However, I think there is a "VOID" sticker on one of the screws that keep the battery connected to the device that if removed, this DOES void the warranty. I would look, but I can't pop the back off my N7 because I just clipped my fingernails, haha. But I have taken off the back of my previous N7s various times and sent them all back with out any problems. I just haven't tampered with the stickers that say "VOID" on them.
Obvious warranty voiding action is obvious.

They made it a sealed back for a reason they don't want people messing and you have silly to do it. Its like moaning you have bricked your nexus and moaning they won't give you a new one. Same as in game shops the minute you take it out the cellophane its none-returnable. You should of phoned them straight away when you noticed the problem.

Look. Seriously I understand. I get it. If i damaged the device, the warranty should be voided. But i didn't. Second. Most devices, that do NOT want you in the back would..
A.) Not make the back held on by snaps, that are super easy to remove (please don't tell me it's hard or difficult to remove because it's not) The devices that have tamper proof backs have screws with warranty voiding measures like a sticker that says (VOID WARRANTY) and a screw under it.. Or they would have a security Torx screw.. or something! Go check your devices..
B.) I have spent hours looking and reading the warranty manual and NOTHING in there says you can't remove the battery back. Have anyof you owned a Galaxy S (the original) the battery back snaps on the exact same way. you have to pop it off with snaps all around the edge. Also.. nothing inside the back says "HEY if you remove this you void your warrenty!"
C.) I get the battery is not user replaceable.. sort of.. it's one plug and you pop it out.. but i think the battery is held with glue so i wouldn't remove it.. but come on guys i'm seriously not trying to be a ****, i know if i had opened something that said "DONT OPEN" or there was a screw on back i wouldn't have said anything when i called.. but this is silly.. the moment i mentioned i popped the back off, they threw up there hands and ignored the fact that the device was having issues prior..
D.) In the Warranty paper work it says "the Product has been tampered with, repaired and/or modified by non-authorized personnal:" So opening the back that is easy to open but has no TAMPER PROOF anything voids your warranty.. in that sentence i don't think i did ANY OF IT. I didn't take it apart, unscrew, replace parts, etc.. all i did was open to unplug and plug battery back in.. if thats tampering.. then we ALL have void our warranties on MANY devices as i'm sure that wording is used on MANY devices warranties.
Seriously though I know when i have been beaten. I can admit defeat but the way i was treated on the phone was awful. I can't understand how that is good customer service. Adult conversation here.
And you blame Google for this.....
If your device was cutting out and not charging then why didn't you get it repaired or replaced under warranty instead of messing about with the internals? Clearly you must have done more than just opening the back cover, someone who goes that far will meddle with the battery and connectors which definitely VOIDS your warranty. It's not the same as opening the back cover of a Galaxy phone that has a user replaceable battery.... this doesn't
Seriously the more people like you move back to Apple the better these forums would get. Good luck
Xda seems full of assholes today.. (not you op!)

Good luck

The battery connection problem is very common many people have fixed it the way he tried the only mistake he made is telling them about it

Wow. More people like you make Google users seem elitist. Yes i did unplug the battery you know that thing we as electronic users have been doing for YEARS. it was the only way to get it to turn back on.. is that too difficult for you? I like how you probably have never read the warranty insert but are already siding with a company of their "meaning" of the rules.
I guess everyone here would be ok if you mentioned resetting the batteries in your remote control for your TV and they said. OH well you voided the warranty..?

Thanks. Thank you. Someone understands.. I admit i guess it was my fault for mentioning.. it. Now my account is "has been noted" So now i will probably not send it in for repair, because they seem to "maybe" want to charge me full price which BTW is 200 for an 8GB they don't even have it set to 150 as it should be for a device that has been replaced pricewise for the 16GB.
wow the back of the nexus is not like any phone back. there is a groove or a notch to remove phone backs. Thats like saying the ipod back is removable since its not screwed down. I can remove an ipod back almost as easy as taking off the nexus 7's back but I also know I'm not supposed to. It sucks what they told you but crying foul is almost as bad. Luckily they are going to help you anyway

Tried. Multiple times. Nothing.. the screen would stay black. battery wouldn't charge. i had to unplug battery and plug back in.. to get the charger to work. even bought 2 3rd party chargers that work for nexus to get it to respond. nothing. battery had to be unplugged and plugged back in. only way to get my device to work. I guess i shouldn't have said that and lied. *sigh*
Sorry to hear this man, I'm following this thread pretty closely. I am getting a N7 here next week (Christmas, I hope), so trying to see what others issues with it are. I hope this works out for you
hi. i have had my eyes on this tab S 8.4 LTE since it was announced. i have been saving a lot so as to get this tablet.
the day i got all the money for this tablet saved, i went to the Samsung store and bought the device right. hell, i even paid extra for the Bronze color one.
i felt blessed and happy. after like half an hour of using the tablet, i found the stutter and lag to be all over the UI. it was not deal breaker but definitely was Heart breaker. for a premium one of a kind, Samsung Flagship tablet, i didnt expect that. i have owned Note 3 and both have EXACTLY the same hardware other than the screen.
but i got over that and accepted that as part of deal from samsung cause after all it had Touchwiz. i personally love touchwiz. i really do.
after like a week of usage, i started to feel like the battery on this tab is giving up on me. i tried every thing there was to try. i rooted it, removed the bloatware, installed greenify, swapped roms, minimized brightness and all i was advised by good folks here on this very good community of xda.
then i was told that many people here found the solution by re-sitting the battery connector on the mother board. and i tried that. i removed the back cover, with all the pain and cringing, and REALLY found the plug to be very loose. looked like some child had it just PLACED it on its place. it was not even all the way down. i did that, and boom, i got the battery back to normal, i un-noticed all the scars and scratches there were because of removing the back cover.
after like 4 or 5 days same **** started happening. battery would fail after like 3 hours of screen time and that also doing nothing just plain UI browsing, because my tab was in the period of showing it to friends and relatives. u know the usual stuff. people asking u to let them see your new tab. every body praised and loved the SUPER AMOLED!
after like some time, it literally gave up on me. it would not boot, it would power on. it would charge and that also very weirdly, when i plug it it sometimes said, 50% battery, then at the next second i remove the charger and re-connect it and it would show, 89% battery. the next second i would remove and re-connect the charger and it would say 4% battery.
i could not do anything. so i went to samsung OFFICIALL sales & repair centre and I LITERALLY MADE THAT STUPID ***** WRITE DOWN ON THE JOB SHEET TO NOT LOSE THE IR BLASTER COVER THINGY. they gave me 15 days of time for to repair it and asked for Rs 5000 which is equivalent to US $ 55 approx. i was like, ok if u fix it all well i can pay that. and FYI, the TABLET WAS IN FREAKING WARRANTY! IT WAS ONLY 20 DAYS OLD!
you get where im going? well i called them 15th day and they didnt pick my phone. i tried for next 2 days and they didnt pick any call. i went to their office and asked them what happened of the tablet. they said sorry we could not fix it and we were told this by our ENGINEERS the second day. i was like why didnt u tell me that before why make me wait 15 days and they said our phone was dead... MOTHER****ERS!
i asked them to return my tablet, they charged me Rs 1000 approx US $10 BEFORE returning me the tablet.
when they returned me the tablet, it had that IR blaster cover lost. i was so angry i cant explain. i could not do anything against them i went there 3 times and waited for like 30 min each time JUST TO SEE THE MANAGER AND HE NEVER MET... i wish they all die in deepest pits of hell for eternity. amin.
anyways, firstly i didnt trust the local small repair shops but i had no choice i gave the tab to one of shops and he repaird it for me in like 1 day. i was really happy. but he charged me Rs 3000 about US $30.
i started using the tab and it was fine. i got the normal 6-7 hours of screen on time. and btw, he didnt replace any thing including the batter.
since this saturday, the same **** started happening AGAIN. i went to the same shop and gave him the tablet to repair. just today he called me and told me the expense for this time repair would be Rs 5500 approx US $55.
NOW, this is my experience with samsung's greatest tablet ever. i have learnt my lesson the hard way i guess. Spending US $40 or $60 might not be a big deal for some of you Europeans or Americans out there but im from Pakistan. im a student. i dont get money very often to repair my ****. and that also a mere 28 days old BRAND NEW OUT OF THE ****ING BOX TABLET.
i know, i might get hate here as well, cause not many these days, understand others problems.
but i would advise you all new comers NOT TO GET THIS TABLET EVEN IF U ARE GETTING IT VIA SALE. i paid the full price and even more cause of import fees and taxes.
and btw, its not just me, there are many people who didnt get the battery life they were told they would get.
you have been warned.
Why didn't you get a replacement by warranty? Didn't get that.

HAHA... replacement? there is no such thing as replacement here mate! they only talk to the customers until they pay them and thats it. after that they dont have any time for you. as i have already said, they were not even ready to return me my device which they had ****ed up by losing the IR blaster cover. they said first i need to pay then they will return my tab. its been one of the ****ed up experiences of my life.
and to top things off, no one is there to complain. no executives, no senior person, no managers NOTHING! only sales girls with fake smiles and little cleavages. u see, women here, especially women who work in such sales department, like all over the world are used very wrongly. and in our country you can not even look at a woman with anger, let alone talk to them about the **** they did wrong to my tablet.
its very very saddening situation here man, very very saddening! people who have resources get everything and students like myself or people who have not much relations are the victims. i know if i were in any other country i could have sued their asses off. but here NO.
and its the device its self thats the problem. u see if samsung cuts its product lines even 25%, and works more on QC and software, things like thing would never happen.
all the hype around S6 and i bet you, it will all be the same. I bet you it will still lag, it will have almost the same issues as previous phones. yes there will be changes, but merely cosmetic!
Reality bites

Unfortunately, most of the stores in some countries are only third party/franchisee, so they don't offer the same wonderful customer service you may be accustomed to. They don't readily provide brand new unit replacements, heck, we usually even have to fight for parts replacement and settle at that (better than nothing, I guess).
From where I'm from, we're usually told, "we will have to have our technician take a look at it. Please come back after 5-7 business days." When we come back, they tell us that they were unable to elicit the problem, and if we want, they can have it sent to their main branch (in a different city) to take a look at it. Of course, they still end up telling you that there's nothing wrong with it and charge you anyway.

Thank you for this post. I actually considered getting the Tab S2 when it comes out. Your post reminded me of my past experience with a Galaxy Tab 8.9 and an S3 (tablet had a defective motherboard and I could only get the parts replaced, no new unit) and my Galaxy S3 wouldn't connect to a WiFi network unless I literally stood right next to the router (this one I actually did manage to get a replacement unit, but the trouble I had to go through..ugh).
Anyway, I'm so sorry for the trouble you had to go through.
Sorry but just because you had an bad experience it doesn't mean that others should be scared off. I bought my tab 's 8.4 on sale and I use it at least 4-5 hours per day without any lag at all and with around 35% battery left every day. I think you could just have said that you had a bad experience instead of telling everybody in bolded text that they shouldn't get it.
Except I have WiFi version. So if this is a common problem on the late version then I have nothing to say.

I agree - I have the 10.5 and yes it suffers from slight lag but theres ways around that (Nova/debloating etc).
My note 4 is the boss and not issues at all now i'm on 5.0.1. You can't really slat a manufacturer entirely if the country you reside in doesn't have the support required - you took that risk on.
As for the technical problems you are having, I guess taking apart a device that was under a month old kind of invalidates any warranty - if you didn't have one I suspect all you've done is cause problems for the engineers. Did you contact the sellers/retailer? Have you contacted samsung to see who they'd recommend/are there others that may be able to sort it out?
However if you cannot get Samsung repair service in your area, why didn't you consider a make that can be supported locally?
I imported a gear VR from the US to UK and if it went wrong I'd wholly expect Samsung not to honour the warranty....sometimes we take risks and it doesn't work out!
Well no doubt you had a nightmare experience and sorry that you didn't have my experience. For me I couldn't be happier and have zero regrets with my purchase. Other then the lag problem which was fixed by debloating and switching to nova launcher I really really really love my tab s and so glad I didn't get the iPad mini like I was planning.
Now I eagerly await the lollipop update.
Sucks that you can't get proper service. Sorry to hear that but a lot of us can get proper service so I don't think its right for you to tell people to stay away. If someone gets unlucky here where I am they can easily return it and get a new one. For me I was first disappointed by the battery life but have quickly realized maybe I was spoiled by the 10+ hours my ipad 3 got. I don't experience any lag and have mostly good things to say about the device. I do wish the battery would go a bit longer. My only complaint comes with the power button. After only a few weeks its not looking good. Its going to go at some point. It already looks like its pushed in.
I have a 10 as well, and I have had zero issues with it. I have read some other complaint threads, but I haven't had any issues at all with mine. Sucks to hear others have issues, but this is the finest tablet I have ever owned.

both of you are very right at your position. i might have also said the same things if i saw some thread like this and i had no trouble with my tablet.
but the thing is, samsung has Proper sales and service business here in my country. u would not even believe that some of the products are not even launched in some big countries but they are made available here. Note 4 was launched here 2 days before its international launch! same case with some other big tabs and smartphones.
removing the back cover does not void ANY kind of warranty. i snapped it back and no body could tell if i ever removed it. i dont have the tab with me, but when i will i will try to show you guys what the OFFICIAL samsung ENGINEERS did to it. i opened the back with a debit card and nails and they have proper equipment, i guess, but they ruined it for me. and how come they lose some part of the tab when i CLEARLY TOLD THEM & EVEN ROTE IT TO THEM NOT TO LOSE IT because its too small thing to lose.
any how, all of you guys who have no trouble with your tabs, great for you. i feel good for you. i would have called it my bad luck if it was my first experience with samsung device. i have had sasmsung devices for a very long time including even some of the house hold electronics. mobile division of samsung sucks balls in terms of QC.i remember having S2 having dead speaker after 2 months, S3 having strange glue marks on the AMOLED screen, S4 having heat up issues and now this.
@ Pills_e and i didn't write text in bold or what ever to seek attention. why didnt you write such a thread? because you didnt have a problem right? i just tried to warn people. i have said it already and would say it again, im a student. i dont have a full time job. its Very hard for me to spend US $40 or $60 after 10 days just like that on repairing a gadget that is not even available to me. it might be easy for you, but not for all.
i just advised based on my experience and its just sincere brotherly advise to all new comers. people will get what they like, no matter what. i just poured in my experience. thats it.

I'm so sorry for you. I hate that you've been through all of this stuff regarding samsung devices. I wonder if the tabs going to Pakistan are made in a different factory than United States ones? I hope you have better luck in the future.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab S 8.4 with much love to the xda community.
I have the 10.5 and am on a stock rom and have zero lag anywhere. Initially there was lag with the OS it was released with (I bought it release day) but subsequent updates removed all the lag I had. I love my Tab S and I get 11hrs watching videos on it on long flights and drives and the screen is amazing.
What you should have done was try to return the tablet for a replacement INSTEAD of opening the back. Opening the back voided your warranty and is not something I EVER do for ANY device I own that's within warranty period. Outside of the period I may take the chance but not a day before.
Sorry to hear this happened to you as I know how frustrating these kinds of things can be.
I'm Surprised!
I'm surprised that Samsung would even touch your Tab S 8.4! After you rooted it, changed the ROM and then opened the device up which a user is never supposed to do, I'm surprised your warranty is worth the paper it was written on.
You should have taken the Tab S back to whomever you bought it and got your money back.
Hmmmm... was just about to order a tab S 8.4 WiFi as well... Lol.
i have 10.5 LTE and the battery stand only 3.5 Hours after few month of purchase its stand around 6 hours before
i have already make root so i got KNOX flag 01
but i will pay 50$ if this will fix the problem but after i read your story im afraid to fix it and the problem come again .. i don't know what to do
