WPA2-EAS logon problem...HELP! - HTC Wings

Dear All,
I am Eko, a new member here. First of all thank you for accepting me join this forum.
To main point: I just bought HTC S730 a week ago. I was quite happy with the phone. Unfortunately I can not use it to connect into the WLAN network in my office. The WLAN setting is WPA2-EAS-PEAP with Deutsche Telekom CA2 certificate, which I have installed in the phone. Some how I can not get the log-on screen to come out (where I should put my user name and password). I have talked with technician in my office, but they can not do anything. I even send mail directly to HTC, but I haven't receive any feedback yet .
To make it even worst, my wife use SGH i 600 and she can easily connect to the WLAN (and she is very proud with her phone, eventhougt it's one year older).
Could some one please tell me how to solve this problem, it's just really annoying because the main reason I bought the phone is because its WLAN ability and somehow I can not use it.
Thank you in advance. Look forward to hear from you.

There is no such thing as EAS. I'll take it you mean AES, which is a wireless encryption standard.
If you go to start > settings > connections > wlan > wi-fi > add new and then manually enter the information needed.
Verification WPA2, Data Encryption AES, make sure to check the box that you'll get the key automatically. Next. Make sure that the checkbox 'use 802.1x network access control' is checked. In the box below, choose PEAP.
I do not see an option to enter a username there either, but you can (and should) use a client certificate.
What happens if you leave it at PEAP and connect anyway? Wouldn't it open a dialog box asking for username/password/domain?

Dear Spone1,
Thanks for your respond.

I have done all of those. The network requires Deutsche Telekom Root CA 2 certificate which I have installed.

Took me a few minutes to find it a few weeks ago, but this will do fine and it's free:
SecureW2 TTLS Client, you can google it pretty easy.
I set it up here for our fairly oddball Cisco/EAP/MSCAP 802.11x stuff a while back. It works, but then I realized I didn't have much use for it. But it's there in case I need it. I pondered buying IM+ for Sametime (our internal IM) but not worth it.. Anyway
Its very easy i think...
just go to start - settings - connections - Wi-Fi - add new - type in the Network name (SSID), if its a hidden network, then tick "This is a hidden network" - next - Authentication: WAP - Data Encryption depends on ur network, either TKIP or AES, check with ur admin - next - EAP typeEAP - finish.
if the network is avaliable, a login window will pop up. you type ur ID, Password and domain in, then the ur wifi is connected.
This is how I config my college's WPA wifi... I think urs are more or less the same... the only different things should be the Data Encryption and EAP type.
My work uses EAP-TLS and TKIP encryption, but I have never been able to get the digital certificates to work on the Tilt (or any win mobile device, for that matter). I've talked about it with our IT guys, and they admit it's a bit of a nightmare (they don't officially support mobile devices on the secure wireless network anyway - we have an open network too). MS has no real solutions to offer, and IT has other priorities, so it remains an unresolved issue for me.

diamond "connection setup"

hi,
I live in Uruguay, South America, I bought an htc diamond in usa and it is working fine.
The problem is that the " connection setup " is lacking Uruguay and network settings from Uruguay in its database, so every time I turn on the phone I get the connection setup screen.
There is also lacking the data from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, etc. Only Bolivia is included.
My question: is there any way to update the " connection setup " database so the diamond could recognize the carriers from these countries?
Thank you
see here:
http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html
go to settings -> all settings -> connection -> connection
and setup manually using those settings.
If those are not correct, just google for 'GPRS setting Uruaguay' + your operator
Hello,
Click Setting, Connection Setup, then Menu on the right bottom, and so uncheck Enable Auto Configuration.
It will not bother you anymore...
Phil
thank you phil,
that's what i've done and it's ok.
thank you 1234,
can you tell me (step by step) how to configure my carrier settings? the service provider here in uruguay is called " ancel ".
with your help i should be able to do it.
thanks again,
best regards,
arturo
Use touch flow and go to settings, then left softkey for all settings.
Then the connections tab (at the bottom), then connections icon.
There go to setup new modem connection (if i remember corectly)
for APN put: gprs.ancel
for username put: guest
for password put: guest
hit ok/save and exit all the way out. It may take about 30 seconds to lock on, or just soft reset to be sure.
thanks again 1234,
i will try your instructions.
one more question: once i set the carrier settings, is it possible to set other carriers in case i travel to argentina or brazil?
best regards,
arturo

Hi,
I have a HTC Touch Diamond and this message has appeared several times today..
Connection Setup
DataBase Update Check.
It may cost data connection fee to check if new database update. Do you wish to proceed?
Can anyone provide any assistance on what this is? How can I get rid off this message? It interruptes the data connection.
Many thanks in advance!

are you sure that you are using the "right" encryption? perhaps you have wpa2
(tkip or aes) and the device checks only wpa? or you enter the wrong password in
wep, then the connection looks like it is established, but you can do nothing with it!
just a thought...
yep

Stupid question tbh but I see this sort of thing every day nearly..
Your subnet is the same as the router yes? Does dhcp allocate one out to you or have u got a static ip on the phone?
Despite being connected to the wifi access without being on the same network you will not gain net access.
Who is your carrier for cell service? If you're on AT&T, and you've run an auto-setup CAB file for your cellular network settings, then you may need to double check your connection and proxy settings. Usually the solution is to select the correct network connection and NOT try to use your carriers proxy when you're connected via Wifi.
If you ARE on AT&T, then do this... Go to Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections > Advanced tab > Select Networks button. Set both drop down entries to MEdiaNet... for most this will have NO adverse impact (assumes you have a data plan too). OK to save selections.
Now go back to those MEdiaNet drop down selections. Edit either one of them. Go to the Proxy Setting tab. Uncheck the second box indicating this network connection uses a proxy. OK the settings... enjoy non-proxied Internet freedom via Wifi.
If you're not on AT&T, maybe the same proxy issue could be present. But I couldn't help you with your settings. Hope this helps.

all the settings are correct...exactly the same settings im using on other wm devices but when they say its connected i can actually do something..rather than on the diamond where it says its connected but doesnt allow me
ive set the phone up identical to another wm6 phone in every way..that connects fine and i can use my wifi ..this phone i cant
Have you tried connecting to a different wifi router, a friend or whatever?
If you can connect there, then that narrows down the problem to your settings, or your router, or the router setup
Do you know anyone else with a Diamond that could try to see if they could connect to your router?
If they can connect but you can't then you could take a look at their connections. Or it could mean a faulty device. If they can't connect either, then this will give you some clues.
I'm assuming that you've deleted the connection and reformed it. Did you choose work or the internet? Have you tried changing that.
Have you tried changing the Authentication to Shared?
Each time you make a change you need to let it 'set' for a few seconds and then reboot.
Can you connect to the internet via Activesync pass-through?
Sorry, that's all I can think of at the moment. If something else occurs to me I'll post back.
Hi.. I'm not sure if this will help or if you already have tried it.
But I had the same problem and the solution was this:
Pres start -> Settings -> Connection -> Wireless Lan -> power mode
Now use best settings, instead of battery save. ( Im not sure if the translation is 100% right. Translated from danish Diamond)
At the start I couldn't load any pages with Wi-fi, though there was no problem with the connection from the router. But now it works like a charm

This was the solution for me
I have had the same problem Imy phone even should be picked up by the repair centre then as a last try someone gave me the idea to change the leaver at wireless lan/energymodus to the left (best conection) and whala, I have tried it later whit my phone almost on the wirelesspoint to set it to best batterymode but not even at the middle it would do anything, it says conected but no data is comming to the phone, just when the leaver is at his almost left it will work.
Good luck.

A task for wifi experts!

my school has wifi called UCM-WiFi-Secured i go through the settings for the wifi
Authentication: Open
Data Encryption: WEP (check key auto provided), i have tried all security options and none work
next
Then i can either leave Use IEEE 802.1x network access control check box unchecked which sends me to a Enter username/password/domain and i do so with correct information and get an error message saying i need a personal certificate
or i check the box for IEEE 802.1x, select peap and click properties and it says Cannot log on to the wireless network. this network requires a personal certificate to postitively identify you.
Below is a link to connect using vista. An iphone works fine! Anyone have any ideas? Im lost

thank you

[Q] my GalaxyS is not connecting to Wifi networks !

hey guys ..
i can't think of any reasonable reason why it's not connecting to my router !!
i'm using my wifi connection with many laptops ..
and the GalaxyS was working properly yesterday too !
but now it's not working .. it finds the network and start obtaining IP adress for it but it can't , it just try to do that again and again
i assume that there is a password...you tried re-entering the password?
if so and still not working.
what did you do in the phone yesterday before it stopped connecting?
installed anything new?
yes there is a password .. i tried to enter it again
and i tried "forgetting this network" and start the connection over with no result
i didn't install anything new, but i updated some of the programs i have !
What ROM are you currently on ??
i have had this issue many times with darkys ROM
i'm using an official one ,, the one came with the phone (Froyo)
thats weird....
what about the kernel ?? or is that stock too ?
stock too
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #53
hmmmm........
i dont know how to help you.... whenever i get this problem i re-flash the kernel / modem / ROM.
I think you may need to do a factory reset, in order to get the wifi back. BUT !! to make a full backup you will need an app like 'titanium backup' which requires you to be rooted.
I can pretty much guarantee a reset will fix your problem.
Also if you dont fancy going on to a custom ROM, have you checked your up to date with KIES for the latest firmware ??
ok if i backed up my data ,, will it back up my apps too ??
or only emails, msgs and numbers ?
titanium backup will back up all your apps and app data and settings.
then after the reset, re download from the market and do the restore and hey presto !! job done.
ok i'll try that and i'll let u know
it worked .. thanks
well done thats good news !!
Reboot
I sometimes get this problem, too. I'm on stock ROM and kernel. When it happens I simply reboot the device and problem solved!

Try this.
Firstly, what brand of router do you have in your house? You need to find out if the router itself has restrictions on how many 'clients', or devices, it can have connected to it at any one time. To know what brand of router you have also helps with what the "Internet Protocol' (I.P.) address it has. It should be something like,
192.168.0.1
or
192.168.1.1
or similar. You will find out this information, on a Windows computer that's connected to the router, by clicking the Start Button, and where the 'Search programs and files' bar is at the bottom, type in (without quotes) 'cmd' and press Enter. At the prompt, type this exactly:
ipconfig /all
and the IP address of your router will be shown next to 'Default Gateway'. You then type those numbers only into the address bar of Internet Explorer/Firefox/Opera/Chrome and a pop-up will appear asking for Username and Password. Username is often
admin
and the Password is either
password or admin
You can then look for Wireless Settings that will show you if there are restrictions on how many actual devices can be connected to your router at the same time. While you are in the config of your router, it's a good idea to have researched the Primary and Secondary DNS (Domain Name Server) addresses of the Internet Service Provider you are currently signed up with. Just Google 'your internet service provider's name' along with 'DNS settings' and you will find the info you need.
You can then input those details into the router directly through the Settings menu, and change it from constantly seeking a domain to a situation where the router knows exactly where to look for the internet. This can speed up your internet a bit. With all the info you've grabbed, you can also set static (permanent) IP's for every client (computer/device) that's connecting to the router, making the whole network in your home faster.
Okay, now to your Galaxy. If your router is allowing a large number of clients on board it's wireless network, then it's a case of your Galaxy and the router not talking fast enough about assigning an IP address to your phone. The way you fix that is quite simple, assign a static IP to your Galaxy. With wi-fi turned 'On' on your Galaxy, go into Settings/Wireless and network/Wi-Fi settings. You'll see the name of your network there, and it should say something about 'obtaining IP address'. Now, here's the fun part.
Click on the left soft-key, and you'll see 'Scanning' and 'Advanced'. Click on 'Advanced', and a new menu will open. Down the bottom, you'll see 'IP settings' and under that, 'Use static IP'. Put a check in that box, then click on 'IP address' (below the checkbox). A little window will pop up, asking for an address. You now need to put a value in there that's similar to your router's IP.
Example:
If your router's IP is 192.168.0.1, then you type into the box 192.168.0.3
You need to make sure that the last digit (or digits) you use is different from any other computer using a static IP that's connected to your router.
Once you've clicked OK, scroll down a bit and you'll see more options. You need to tell the phone what 'Gateway' to use. That number is the same as what you found when you looked up the IP address of the router. Next, 'Netmask'. That's 255.255.255.0 Now, 'DNS1' and 'DNS2'. They are the Primary and Secondary DNS addresses for your Internet Service Provider, that you researched earlier.
Now you should find you'll connect to your router a lot easier, and have a more stable connection. Note, however, if you go roaming about and try to connect to a wireless 'hotspot' somewhere else, you'll need to go into the same area of Wi-Fi settings and turn Off Static IP in order to connect to the 'hotspot'.
Hope that helps...
