Hiya,
I'm just wondering what the difference was between the stock O2 rom, and an unbranded ROM speed wise?
I did a hard-reset today, and I noticed that the O2 customisation runs as an XML after the WM6 had been setup...
...so I'm wondering whether it's worth removing the battery before the cutsomisation occurs.
Any thoughts?
PS I guess a hard-reset is a good way of clearing my device in order to dump the rom?
If you remove the battery before cusomization, on next boot it starts the XML, must be hard coded into the ROM.
A better performance ROM would be a cooked one as all the usless stuff is removed and the registry is updated to best performance, plus you get some cab's installed with the ROM which also free's up main storage memory.
^^
Thanks.
So a cooked ROM - do you mean an de-branded cooked rom, or one of those TF3D roms?
I'm happy to give it a go myself (dumping and debranding) however I doubt I'll be able to do as good a job as the experts on here!
My X1i came with the O2 UK ROM which i did use for about a month and then my curiosity made me switch to the UK Generic ROM which i currently use.
The differences i noticed are the following:
O2 ROM had two extra icons at the bottom of the today screen with the battery level and a direct link to Comms Manager.
O2 ROM had slightly different handling of the signal taskbar icons (G, E and H) when connected to the internet. I much prefer the Generic ones as i can see the signal at whilst with the O2 one i couldn't see the signal bars once it was connected to the internet.
O2 Settings programs is not on the Generic UK one, but that is fine because the auto-setup works just as fine.
Google Maps was missing from the O2 one but it is there on the Generic UK. Also a few options such as delivery reports on sms is available on generic but hidden on the o2 one.
Finally, i did notice a slight increase in the available RAM at boot with the generic one.
Thanks for the reply.
Much appreciated.
I'll dump my stock rom, then change to a debranded one...
...I'm a minimalist, and the less, the better.

Hi,
Before I boot this for the first time and let the extended ROM install, does anyone know if the extended ROM on the Stellar contains any nasty surprises? (Like the SoftBank Hermes phones).
Cavey
1. The Kaiser Does not have an extended memory.
2. And the apps that shall get instaleed depends entireely on what Rom your device has been shipped with.
HTC has different Roms for diff regions... then again various branded units have diff Roms from their carriers. I am sure even O2 shall have diff Roms accross Europe...
Any way since you are switching it on for the first time, you could proably hard reset before syncing up/ Installing your apps.

The reason I ask is that the extended ROM contains applications which are automatically installed over the base after a hard reset (it's an extension over the standard WM6 ROM rather than being Extended Memory). SoftBank Hermes phones contain an application in their Extended ROM which locks the SIM permanently (so you cannot SIM unlock these phones if you have ever run the ExtROM, see here).
Anyway, this is just the standard, delivered brand new UK O2 XDA Stellar with the generic ROM, so I wanted to know if there were any nasties in the Extended ROM. I doubt there are, but would be nice to know....
There is no such thing as an extended Rom on the Kaiser. Yes there are certain apps which run after install, but these are in the Windows folder itself.
I guess the best way would be to soft reset before the customisation takes place, go into the windows folder and check out the autexecute file and see what programs install...
Cheers for the advice. All seems pretty mundane stuff and doesn't appear to have pooched my machine.

Having played with the Diamond from orange With the default settings
I can say that after appplying both
Diamond TF3D Config Setup v0.5.1.CAB
And
Schaps_AdvancedConfig_v2.1.0.0.CAB
And applying the various tweaksThere is a notible increase in speed to touchflo
I then set about evaluating the TLR Rom
I was sad to say there was no speed increase and was the same as the origianl out of box for spped wise to touchflo
I have since re-applied the above apps and tweaks and am back to speed how I was,
My advice and mine only would be to seriously evaluate if the rom you want does give you the apps etc you want or the increase in storage.
I will also confirm that the diamond from orange has no Orange splash screens and of there crap buggering the phone. This is a straight HTC standard.
The only bonus I believe is that you get the leather wallet with the orange version.
Thanks for that
Makes me feel better when I get my Orange Diamond next week.
thanks for that, im playing around with my touch diamond just now and exploring what else to do with it. trying to get quake 3 converted but having no joy. anyone shed some light?
Orange Diamond
Yes my orange phone didnt have any orange software installed, but after looking at the manual on the CD all the pictures show orange customization.
Will this mean that any orange updates will make it go like that
Can I backup my current ROM that is loaded to the phone so if I do get any orange update roms I can revert back to the uncustomized phone
If you do get updates from orange though I dont know how orange would push the updates out! and you do end up wanting to go back to original then just install the TLR rom
Orange UK have rushed the handset out to beat the iphone... and thus didnt flash the completed rom. I am sure they will make a rom update available soon on their website.
backing up rom
is it possible to backup the rom I already have on my phone
Hi,
I have an O2 Ignito and I noticed that the ROM version is 1.93.
Is it worth upgrading to the latest, which I believe is 2.3 and if I do what benefits will I get?
Similalry, what will the upgrade mean to my operator settings etc?
Many thanks.
TBH, I expected to have to heavily tweak/flash the stock o2 ROM.
After many tweaks and hard resets, the best advice I can give you is hard reset your Ignito when you get it by selecting "Clear storage" from Settings>System and then install Net-CF 3.5 and run the Advanced config tool, changing the File System cache to 2MB and the File System filter cache to 4096. I find that this gives me a device that is snappy across all functions. You will hear different things about which ROM to flash and which tweaks to apply, but unless you really want to go down that route, I'd seriously look at the tweaks above, and diasbling error reporting.
One thing to bear in mind in relation to flashing another ROM is that o2 have not included QuickGPS (Where the GPS gets a quicker lock by using information from the mobile network) due to them using their own network to provide this to the phone processor itself. This functionality may be disabled if you flash another ROM.
The battery gets better over the space of a week and you can increase your battery by switching off 3G in the phone settings. The o2 network in the UK is optimised for the iPhone so you get EDGE over the GSM network which gives you acceptable performance.
One of the best sources I've found for information about the Ignito is 4Winmobile, although if you want to look to tweak your device to the max, then you're in the right place!
uhm, latest ROM is still 1.93? :S
Lol, just what I saw somewhere.
Thanks for the replies.
Well Ive got my mum a new Compact 4 on her Tmobile contract.
I have a few questions before i make any changes to it.
I dont want to void the warranty so sadly i cant flash it with the latest HTC firmware.
I did notice this C4 is using fairly old firmware...
Rom 1.37
Radio .03
Is this unusual? I can imagine once the phones out Tmobile wont supply anymore development for the rom updates. Or even pass on the HTC roms.
And as for Advanced config and the Diamond Toughflo config. Can they be installed on the C4 and change the touchflow background?
At the moment the phone seems to work perfectly fine. So for now the out of date rom isnt really an issue. But i would love to get rid of the pink and keep the warranty at the same time.
Touchflo config and advanced config will work fine on the compact 4, and as you're on the 1.37 rom you wont have any problems loading touchflo themes.
I don't know if there's an official t-mob 1.93 rom out (I havent seen it mentioned on here so I dont think there is). You could go for one of the custom roms but you'd need to hardspl it and you would invalidate the warranty.
I upgraded to the official orange 1.93 rom and haven't really noticed any significant improvements (a few minor things, no major speed increases etc..).
So, if it was my phone, I'd stick with the 1.37 rom and go for a custom theme
Thanks m8
Oh and where can i find Youtube app?
I didn't know t-mob removed it :O
Anyway, you can find it here:

Hello,
I flashed a T-Mobile MDA Vario III with HTC latest official rom (WM 6.1) and now screen rotation on slide out / in is much slower. Sometimes it takes up to 4 seconds.
Any ideas?
Best Regards,
Craig Brass
I can't really point to a solution with the ROM you're using; in fact I'd be willing to guess that it's just a side-effect of that particular ROM - I don't imagine the Radio ROM in your device not being best-suited for the OS ROM would deliver slow screen rotation as a side-effect.
All I can say is that I recently flashed to AthineOS and EVERYTHING is quick on it. Screen rotation when sliding occurs within a second I'd say - it might be slightly over a second, I haven't timed it, but either way it's very quick, and quicker than the T-Mobile WM6.0 ROM...
Anyway, hope you get it sorted... Let us know if you find a solution for your current ROM.
Regards,
Rob.
T-Mobile considerations
I seem to recall HTCs fix for this in their HTC Branded WM 6.1 'upgrade' involved more than just the ROM but if the radio and spl are going to be upgraded as well, people need to make sure there are backups of the originals first because in some countries (and Craig didn't say where he's from or fill in that part of his profile), T-Mobile use customised versions and special network configuration. Perhaps a T-Mobile customer can comment whats reqd from experience? I haven't tried searching but I suspect that'd pull something relevant up as well.
Ok, I flashed with AthineOS as suggested. Nearly perfect. Couple of things :-
1. I flashed the official dialer for the voice calling. Before, when launched, it would show Contacts as the left button. Now it shows Hide Keypad. How do I get it to show Contacts again?
2. TouchFlo 3D shows the calender list but when clicked it launches the default phone calender app. I have Developer One Agenda One Installed and I want it to launch this. How do I do that?
