Change record for ROM/Radio - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hi all,
is there a change record for enhancements to Radio versions / benefits and if they are recommended or not?
I have:
ROM: 1.14.405.3 WWE
ROM Date: 24.10.08
Radio version: 1.09.25.14 > should I upgrade to 1.10.25.25 ?
I am therefore very loathed to upgrade if it is going to cause instability or any other problems as I have seen with other developers when they did it to their Trinity mobiles in the past. Hence I kept my previous mobile at factory settings apart from install of various Hacks/Tools. Can anyone recommend or help especially as the page on the WIKI says:
WARNING This has not been tested by me so I can not say that it will work read the thread and try it at your own risk?
Sounds to me like you should only do this is you have a spare phone or an official update from HTC/Orange. The only reason I would upgrade is if it makes things more stable or faster on connections.
Hawk

bump.........................

Its just like every upgrade.
Ask yourself if there is anything that you are not happy with, and if the upgrade is going to change it.
If you are happy with your phone right now, why should you change it?

Hi JohnPatcher, this statement is very rational....however, many of us like to try new things FOR FUN!
my only resistance in trying a new thing is "how much time will i need to go back if i don't like it?" or the fear of situations like "my god i need my phone in 2 hours for my job and it doesn't even reboot!"
"de gustibus", and subjective of course.
i don't think there is an answer to the thread question since, indeed, i never saw a changelog for a new radio or ROM revision...

Why Do I Want to Update My Tilt's Rom

Other than changing the look of the ui, give me a good reason to update it.I already got rid of all the bloat and crapware.
I have now on my Tilt:
rom version 1.62.502.0
radio version 1.27.14.09
And isn't AT&T going to release a wm 6.1 update anyway? So what is the point?
cause you original rom sux. there's been posts in the past, i dont know if you can find it, but if you do........just see the benchmarks comparing a shipped rom to a cooked rom.

With that attitude there is no point. You can now leave the forums.
Flashing ROMS is about getting every drop of power and speed out of your device if you have a lackadaisical attitude then its not for you.

I apologies if my post appeared to have attitude. I just spent the past hour going through the hundreds and hundreds of posts about different roms and wanted to get someone to give me the befor and after facts.
I did see the post where the after was benchmarked against an ipaq, I believe, but i don't know how a stock one compares.
Again I don't mean to have an attitude....
All is forgiven.
I don't know if anyone has benchmarked the Stock ROM w/ Bloat. But On pure feeling I'm glad I flashed to a Different ROM. And Dutty's Has improved upon itself Exponentially. I can't stress how much better the Device just feels after getting off of a Stock ROM.
Do I need to worry about my radio version?
I used to ask my self the same questions, finally one day my friend got a tilt and dropped a cooked ROM on his phone. We compared speeds side by side and it was amazing the speed difference. Needless to say I went directly home to flash my ROM

Yes since certain radios only work for 6.1 roms which requires downgrading 1 or the other or sticking with 6.0 rom with 6.0 radio and same for 6.1.

newer roms and radios really help with performance of certain needed services like gps. I tested with and without custom roms and only 3 satellites with original rom and 7 or more satellites connect with newer rom

suggestions for rom choice

I just unpacked my att 8925 tilt this afternoon and its a huge upgrade from the 8125 i had for a year and a half. Anyway i wanted to see what the best way to pimp this thing out. I tried out the program Mobile Shell by SPB. Great program as you all know. Anyway my friend highly recommended xda. I read through the faqs and im still a little weary of what i should do.

is the rom i think works best. I just wanna make sure i can use this one. here are my device details:
Current ROM Version: 1.62.502.0
Radio Version: 1.27.14.09
Do i find a rom thats compatible with my radio, how do i find that?
Thanks in advance, sorry if i jumped around.
If anyone tells you to search for the answers, then a pox on them. We need a good ROM choosing thread every so often for everybody's sake.
I'm with Dutty's Diamond V1 now, and personally I find it much slower than his previous hybrid ROMS, V1 or V2. I haven't tried any of the newer ROMS since then, although that's what I'm about to do now.
Even Dutty himself downgraded from his diamond ROM.

First, this thread will be moved soon, as this is not the place for a discussion thread about rom preferences. Those types of discussions should take place in the Kaiser General forum. This forum is for developing roms.
Second, those people who will tell you to search and try them yourself do so with good reason. "Best rom" is an inherently ambiguous and subjective description as it depends on your language, carrier, usage, programs you like, etc. So please to not cop an attitude with those who are simply trying to remind other users to follow the forum rules, it is not helpful and it really annoys the people here who spend a great deal of free time helping the same people who are constantly complaining. If you don't like the rules, take it up with the administration.

***BE SURE TO HARD SPL BEFORE DOING ANYTING***
Finally, since this will probably get moved anyway, i'll tell you that I have used recently Shoguns Death V4.1 BE edition, Leo's Diamond V9, Dutty's hybrid v2 from april 29th, Garmin's DK1.2, Dutty's Diamond Rom, Sakajati's Hyperdragon, and gullum's new rom. I personally like Garmin's new rom the best, with shogun's a close second and dutty's hybrid v2 third. That being said, all the roms are great. You will need to just see what ones you like best. I know that there are a few more than i didn't mention, but that is only because i haven't used them yet so i cannot speak to their quality.

MDA compact IV official rom update?

Just called t-Mobile trying to get my handset replaced, I was told they are working with HTC and release a new software update. I guess this means a new ROM grade? Hopefully radio upgrade as well.

I have been very tempted to flash using a cooked rom, but there is a slight issue with me screen, a ghosting effect. Doesn;t affect the phone just a bit annoying. Just incase i need to send it back, that's why i haven;t flashed it yet.
I'll wait for the offical ROM release, see if this fixes my phone issue.
Anybody have some official news?
Normally TMob are notoriously slow at releasing new ROMs!
yea my MDA is slow and lacks long battery life but i'm scared to flash a cooked wrong as i've never done it before! I'm pretty into this stuff anyway (flashed ipod touch [+ dev for it] and my psp etc) so i know the basics, but is it really risk free, apart from the obvious stupid things?

Fella.. to be straight with you... HTC and T-Mobile SUCK when it comes to Roms.... They will NEVER beat what the guys from xda do with these Roms...
Try either Panosha "shine 1.6" with radio 08 or bepe's with the same radio ROM
you will be totally shocked with how fast these guys cooked Roms are...!
P.s And yes i do own a MDA iv on t-mobile...! and believe me the stock Rom SUCKS..!

Tmobile are planning a rom upgrade any day, the compact iv is actually out of stock beacuse the latest batch has been sent back to have the rom applied, so its doubtful you would get an exchange done in the next couple of days anyway.
Normally tmobile drag their heels with rom upgrades but I think the level of returns has meant that they need to do something and quick.
I'm on my 3rd compact iv but exchanging has been a nightmare as the exchange kept failing due to low stock, so chances are if you went for an exchange now you wouldnt get the handset replaced for a week or 2.
Hopefully the rom upgrade will fix your problems. You can of course flash a rom from here which are so much better, but some like to stick to the stock rom for warranty reasons.
For more info see this thread over at modaco I spoke to tmob for over 30 mins to get this info from them so Imm really hoping rom upgrade will be soon : http://www.modaco.com/content/diamond-diamond-modaco-com/271679/t-mobile-mda-compact-iv-recall/

I hate to disappoint you but that isn't true. There is no Compact IV ROM update in development. The next time you see a ROM update for this device it will be Windows Mobile 7, if at all.
Upgrades and warranty exchange stock are seperate entities, and the returns of the Compact IV are not really much higher than the average with any other phone.
Strange how you're on your third considering their' policy is to repair following the first exchange.

I have only used two cooks Rom, Panosha and bepe's. I personally thinks these two guys are the best cooks.. (some may disagree)
Look for Panosha "Shine on 1.6" and use with radio 5 or 8
Look for bepe's rom if i remember its called "belite" again use with radio 5 or 8.
Also remember use MUST use a hardspl rom before flashing radio and main Rom.
Believe me fella you wont get a stock Rom running faster than these two cooks mentioned above...!
Good luck and ENJOY...!
P.s Don't forget to buy the guys a beer...!

Im currently using Panosha "shine 1.6" probably one of the best cooked roms..
you need to read up before you flash....
First off you need a Hardspl rom......
2nd you need to change your radio rom to either 05 or 08
3rd choose your cooked rom
P.s PLEASE do your research before carrying out any rom upgrades.....or you will BRICK you Mobby
Thanks for the info mate,

Do you have insider information? Since HTC already have a new ROM for the diamond, i guess it would be fairly straigh forward for T-Mobile to adopt this and customize to the horrible pink colour!

I'm getting my MDA Compact IV tomorrow...what to do?

Hi all,
Well after much deliberation and hard choices I decided to go for the T-Mobile Compact IV due to being the best deal. I am returning to WM after 18 months ditching my 02 XDA mini s
I have been scouring these forums for weeks now to see what I can do right away to my new phone...
I want to obviously get rid of the Tmobile branded touch flo 3d..
Can you please report what best SPL's, Radios and ROM's are best for this particular device (i understand some radios work better for different carries, so obviously would like to know from experience who has best performance for tmobile).
I have searched and searched the forums, and with it being a MDA compact the answers are less definative for whats best and I just want to make sure.
I am aware of mikes thread with the compact he got for his gf but would like info in addition to this.
Would you reccomend me opening up the box and then just wiping the phone right away without using the tmobile version
Thanks for your help
Granty
I have had a UK T-Mobile MDA IV for about a week now.
I used the SwiftBL 7.5 ROM with no difficulties. Upgraded the same day as I got the phone after it had charged a bit - the T-Mobile ROM really didn't have much going for it. Didn't try the other ROMs though. No problems installing the hard SPL (jockyw2001's HardSPL 1.24), it just worked. I did briefly consider sticking with the T-Mobile ROM with a bit of debranding, but it really is awful and I don't regret upgrading now!
Upgraded the radio to v1.00.25.05 as recommended in the SwiftBL thread and it worked well. Later upgraded radio to v1.00.25.BS14 and I think it works better, but that's a bit subjective - I haven't been running benchmarks and formal tests! Pretty easy to downgrade if you have to though.
I think "what's best" is pretty subjective. From the few days I've been in this forum it seems SwiftBL is like a slightly tweaked HTC ROM with some useful tools on it, and Dutty's is more of a hardcore tweaked ROM built for speed, but I might be wrong on that
all i can reccomend is Dutty's lite (+, of course, all what you prefer, all tweaks and other "must have")
radio? .05, .07, .08, .14 - it depends on many factors (country, city, operator etc) so we cannot surely say "this radio is THE BEST!
one is as sure as ****: debranding is necessity, radio rom .03 is the worst, T-Mobile ROM is also one piece of ****
Thanks for both of your replies. I have downloaded SwiftBL 7.5 while I was waiting for response, seemed one to go for. Download HardSPL - Diamond - Olinex- Hope thats the one to go for and also downloaded the radio .08 and BS14, will probs bang BS14 on and give that a go. Will let ya know my experiences tomorrow!

I too have had my mdac4 for a week or so. I tried the Swift rom and it was great to start with but then I lost all sound, although I did install other stuff afterwards which may have been to blame too. I ended up installing the paonosha rom and it has been very good so far, very quick and no gps lag
I'm using 08 radio
Well its here, TMobiles ROM is awful. If i didnt know about this site i'd have sent it back right away, so slow and unresponsive.
Gutted mobile.co.uk announced xperia today but oh well what can you do?
At least I got a decent deal on mine on a 12 month contract I suppose as opposed to an 18 month
I wouldn't go with the xperia even if the price is the same as diamond, touch pro would be the more reasonable choice to go.
had my MDA C4 for just over a month now and i can say a few things:
* I'm using Dutty's rom which is nice and stable and has all the default apps i need. Do not stay on the stock rom unless you have a death wish
* In terms of radio's, i'm on .08 at the moment but i'm just about to switch back as i can't seem to get a GPS lock on and i need it for TomTom. I was on .05 radio before and this was working perfect, and the battery life was also around the same as this .08
* If you have a later ROM version than 1.37 then please try and make a backup, i haven't come across any so far and it would be nice to have one if i have to revert back at some point!
* Play around. There is most likely going to be more than one ROM that will suit your needs, so it's all about what you really want from it down to the skins they have tbh. Most of the ROM's at the moment seem to have pretty much the same speeds and tweaks, and the only difference being that they customize it (whether it be custom manilla icons, start menu, etc).
That's my two cents

As someone who is in a very similar position to Addictedddd, I echo his words of playing around.
I agree that most ROMs are similar with respect to tweaks, etc. Personally, I'm using Version 7.0 of SwiftBLs ROM. I know that this is not the latest (I think I posted somewhere recently that "newest is not necessarily the best") but it's the one that I most prefer - The one that feels right, if you like..
I've tried countless others but I always keep coming back to version 7.0..
I'm also running the 1.00.25.BS14 Radio on mine. Again, the 05 seemed OK, the 08 didn't change much but I pesonally noted a slight increase in signal with the BS14 so I stuck with it.
You need to play around with the Diamond and experiment with different programs and ROMs. Only this way will you find out what is best for you.
Finally, Don't forget to read. The Wiki has a great introduction for flashing. I've added a link below:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Diamond
Read it - I'd hate to see a post from you tomorrow saying "Help - I've Bricked it!!"
Take care and happy experimenting..
Right oh my findings..
Tmobile ROM...super slow, would have gone back if I didnt know how to change.
After much confusion of the guide saying there was a 1.40 SPL that wasnt developers I found out it was actually 1.30....
I tried installing BS14 radio with 1.30 but kept erroring at 0% (i wasnt even sure the SPL was installed right as it only took literally a second to update, even though bootloader confirmed it)
So after reading a few more peoples reports I went to HardSPL 1.40 developers (just make sure I don't do any dodgey roms) and installed the BS14 radio no problem, again the SPL updated quick taking only a second, then about a minute for the radio.
Installed swiftblade 7.5 which installed very quickly too, about 2 or 3 minutes, so much quicker than the Tmobile ROM.
Not sure how GPS lock is, havent got any sat nav software on, tried google maps which was instant but I take it that is using A-GPS.
Signal strength is not very good, 1 bar, might be my area, all other phones around here have full signal though so may just be tmobile. Will trial it for a bit but if it causes problems try 08 or 05.
I too have had my Compact IV for about a month now, also returning to WM after a stint with a Nokia N95 8Gb (Glad to be back!!). I did manage to refrain from flashing the ROM until today. I didn't have any problems with the T-Mobile ROM but have been reading the forums here and at Modaco and was interested to see if there really was that much of an improvement to be had. I have gone with TLR's Diamond ROM 3 and all i can say is wow!!, its only been a few hours so far but the entire phone is much slicker and quicker, there really is a big difference. I really must say thanks to Jockyw2001 and TheLoanRanger for their excellent work, and to everyone at XDA Developers and Modaco for sharing their experiences. I may well go on to try a few other ROM's but for now im glad to have taken the first step.

Receiving my Diamond shortly, what tweaks etc should I apply?

Should be receiving my Diamond Monday. The information on the site is somewhat overwhelming lol. Anyone recommend essential tweaks, applications etc. Thanks!
I'm in the same situation as you.... will receive my Diamond next week and have been reading for 2 days everywhere on the net but mainly here... still i have some questions like you? mayby iäm slow or something ;-) Hope you don't mind me asking some Newbie questions here too...
- If i decide to use to official Rom in my phone can i tweak my phone to the same performance as when i use for example Duttys rom? if the answer is Yes the next question is whats the difference then if i add all the programs to?

Well, the official ROM is usually somewhat slower and could have some 'problems' diamond users experience. Although sometimes an official update is available which could solve some stuff.
The main advantage of using a custom rom is that it's pre-tweaked. Has some tweaks you cannot get unless you flash a new ROM (so the tweaks are in the ROM itself). Take a different pagepool for example. Try and do a search about what that it.
Usually a new ROM also combines a set of the newest software from HTC. So the newest keyboard app from another HTC update, the new TouchFlo from somewhere else. And that combined gives you the latest software and tweaks.
Also, when you dont like touchflo 3d for example, there are custom roms that have removed that. And perhaps remove all other 'extra' software as well. Those are the so called 'light' roms. Those give you max memory and max speed (if possible) at the cost of less applications running thus removing certain functions. You can then add those functions as you please. So you don't end up with a phone that has stuff for 20 things, while you would only need 8 or something (just a random example).
In the case of the TouchFlo3D, if you dont like that and want something else as your today screen you want to get rid of it to free up some memory!
In all my experience with a lot of HTC phones, the 'best' roms were always custom ones. But it's getting harder and harder to see what's good and what's not. As you have probably seen already there are a lot of roms out there for the Diamond. I can only suggest you go and read what the differences seem to be between the roms.
Also read the comments on the roms and try to get some understanding of the changes made to the different versions.
Try to remember though (and this is always the nasty part) you can remove your warranty by flashing another ROM. Also (with the diamond in rare cases) you could 'brick' your phone. Which is no more than a failed update which makes your device unusable. I must say, with the Diamond that almost seems impossible when you just flash normal custom roms. But the 'risk' is always there in some way.
Read about the correct hard spl when you want to flash (need that one before you can flash a new rom, the hard spl unlocks your phone for custom roms). That would be the first step anyway.
And well, after all this info which isn't a lot at all (but it is!) and might or might not help you, the ROM I use is: Duttys V3.6b Final, the 12mb pagepool version.
You can find it here.
Read the howto flash part! It's in the second post all the way below the changelogs.
Obviously everyone has their favourite rom they use, and they all say theirs is the best. So you should really find that out yourself.
In every rom thread you will find things like 'I tried a lot of roms, but yours is the best!'. Try em out yourself and let you be the judge of that. Just take some time to try them out and see what you think is important in a ROM.
Thanks... answered my questions
Thanks alot for your answers it made it all clear for me now... !!
Now i only have to wait for my diamond ... and i have to say this Forum makes the Diamond even more usefull and valuable...
Thanks again...
Is there a preferred custom ROM amongst users here? BTW, which tweak program are you referring to? I've seen quite a few on here? Thanks.
i would def load the "background on all tab pages" tweak...this allows you to have your Home wallpaper on all the other tab pages.

That's what I've been doing for the past couple of hours lol. Some of these threads are HUGE. I still cannot decide which one to try. Looking at the radio bits too. Also curious about landscape keyboard. From what I understand...keyboard is only available in portrait mode but there are some fixes for that?

Is that part of that Advanced Config application?
"What Custom Rom is the best" and "What tweaks should I use" are both very subjective so we don't allow them for this reason.
Best recommendation I (or anyone) can give is to read about the things you think you want to use and ask for clarification in those threads.
