Hi everyone,
I've only had my Touch HD on Orange for a week and last night I installed the Davieduck v3 ROM, but I want my original ROM back! I do like the custom ROM, but I actually miss some of the other stuff, and I think my phone performance has actually gone down instead of up, plus I really really hate the SMS Text size. I prefered the small font as I could fit more on the screen, and as daft as it seems I want the Orange shortcuts back on the Internet tab!
So now the obvious question: Can I get back the original out of the Orange box ROM?
I didnt take a backup before I flashed it because all I had on the phone was the contacts and I didnt really mind losing them.
Or rather than flashing with the Orange rom, can someone recomend another rom, Duttys seems popular, any comments?
Thanks and sorry for being a tool.

Thanks for the link, I had previously read the Wiki and done some searching but missed the relevant info.
I have reflashed my phone with Duttys ROM which I like much much more.
Thanks for the help.
I have been searching the forum, on how to backup my orange stock rom, before flashing but cannot seem to find anything helpful. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

HI all,
Having spent the past 3 hours tralling the forums ( my head is about to explode with all the info) I wondered if I could get some confirmation of some questions i (think ) have found the answers for.
please dont flame LOL
you can only dump the orange junk by reflashing the rom ?
there are issue with the parrot minikit ( speakerphone) with wm6 so if i prefer to stay wm5 it is best to use the htc rom ( though i may have to upgrade the radio rom) ?
for a simple phone user - phone, txt, gps, office etc is there any real benefit in upgrading to wm6? is it much fater and stable?
does anyone know of a simple rom with just the most basics of apps ( so I can then add my own later)
Many many thanks in advance I am amazed with the depth of knowledge floating around on here

3 hours is nothing. 3 years would be just fine. Seriously.
>please dont flame LOL
Burn!
>you can only dump the orange junk by reflashing the rom ?
No (I think so), but it's a lot of work. I think. Easier just to reflash.
>there are issue with the parrot minikit ( speakerphone) with wm6 so if i prefer to stay wm5 >it is best to use the htc rom ( though i may have to upgrade the radio rom) ?
I have no issues.

No.

Vanila Roms are like that. I think.

Upgrade to WM6 and get rid of the customization from Orange -well worth it.
If you don't really want to update just yet, another way to get rid of some of the customization is by performing a Hard Reset, after you align the screen when it first starts there will be a pop-up that customization will start in 3 seconds. Soft Reset the device before it starts and the items from the extended Rom - by orange will no copy.
Thanks for that
the hard /soft reset trick is exactly what i wanted
if i do that will i lose all the mms gprs settings?
if i do how do I go about down loading them please
thanks
Andy
The Orange settings are Orange UK by rabdo v1.6 though you should only need them WHEN you upgrade to WM6
Take the plunge, update - its really easy to do and you wont regret it.
READ THIS TRINITYGUIDES Thanks to Racerx
Guys,

No, Just preventing the items in the ROM from loading until the next hard reset, then you'll have to do the 3 second trick again.
ive upgrade my Orange SPV m3100 today to a TyTn II, and first signs are impressive, however a few little things annoying me, and ive tried searching for help but cant seem to find it.
1, SMS/MMS
this is a massive pain in the ass to me, before on the SPV, it was split and made life easier. but now its merged and is driving me insane for some unknown reason (possibly OCD lol)
2. SMS main screen
On the left soft key it now says "Delete". again on the SPV it was new, made life easier and faster rather than trawling menu for new messages
3. The main today screen. The quality HTC black screen with big clock isnt an option on Orange so it would appear. if so can anyone tell me how? its looks great on the HTC Touch yet on here i have either the crappy Orange side bar or standard Windows bars
4. Touch FLO. wat programs does this work on, cus mine seems obsolete on everything
sorry to be a mega noob, but wud appreciate some input on making this PDA truely awesome

There is no way that you searched and didn't find the answers.
need to find better searching tricks, 1 advice would be to use google or just using a few key words in the forum's search tool
well i did search but "new sms" "delete" "mms" comes up with 32 pages. most of them reading thru, talk about new CABs, and for me thats a last resort, i no u think im being lazy, but after reading 100+ threads with no luck id thought id ask
I got the orange tytn ii before Christmas, and hated the Orangeness of the phone. Found the HTC plugin here:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-htc-home-plugin-v1-0.html
Install on phone, soft reset and then go to "settings", "today" and move to the items tab. Tick the HTC home (not the HTChomeplug) option.
For the black "theme" which is just the black background with a small htc logo in the bottom right and the black bars top and bottom:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/s.php?querywords=htc+black+theme
Again install on phone, soft reset go back to "today" and on the first tab select HTC_new_default
You will still have an orange battery charge icon on the top bar though. I've been happy to live with that!
much appreciated mate. ill have a crack at that when I finish work later.
managed to sort touch flo out aswell
ill carry on searching thru the sms threads, but in the mean time, if any one can point me in the right direction id be very greatful
cheers again

You can find different versions of Arcsoft with the SMS/MMS split. However, it can cause problems when you install it overtop of the merged version. Your best bet is to read up on ROM Upgrading in the Kaiser Wiki, actually the whole Wiki, and then look for a cooked ROM that has the split version of Arcsoft loaded by default.

He is correct. Messing with the Messaging system can bring on Gremlins. Best leave it be or get a ROM that has that from scratch. I've come to be ok with the combined SMS/MMS. At first I didn't like it but I'm fine with it. What I really disliked what the threaded SMS on 6.1.
Think you're stuck with the combined mms/sms. You could always make another folder and manually copy your received mms's over to that. Can't say it bothers me too much. Cure your OCD by convincing yourself that an mms is just an sms with an attachment!
Regarding the previous post. Once you have downloaded the cabs copy them into a folder on your phone (eg. my downloads) and install them, then soft reset.
Once you have it up and running you can go back to "today" (settings) and choose from the items tab what other notifications you want to display below the "big clock"!!
Top tip if you're with Orange. I managed to blag the Orange Business data tariff of 250mb per month for £8 per month including VAT. This rolls over as well!! Phone up customer services and ask (nicely) if they'll bolt it on for you. If not ask for the data tariff department and sweet-talk them.
nice one guys, many thanks, ill let u no how it goes in a bit
hey, spot on so far mate, any other tips? or things that are good to install, got msn so happy with that too
by the way ive got a great blag for the business net user, just wondering wat questions they asked?
no luck blagging , just out of curiosity, is anyone else having problems with IE lagging loads whilst u scroll down even tho the page has loaded?
Guys,
New user - very impressed, found lots of good stuff here - hoping someone can help with this one:
I have had my Vodafone Touch Diamond for just over a month - very nice phone, awful speed!!! I hate the Vodafone default theme, so I had installed the default black one that I found here - very nice looking theme!!
Now I have just upgraded to the 1.93 Vodafone ROM, and the phone finally runs at a half-decent pace - problem is the nasty Vodafone them is back. I then re-installed the old black theme I had, and it has slowed the phone right down again (in fact slower than it was on the old ROM, and some graphics weren't as good) - it looks like the 1.93 ROM has a newer version of Touchflo (or is it the theme?). Basically, the phone, on the settings screen, says it is running Touchflo 3D version 1.1.34574.1_1630.38. It clearly is different, as the animation is less, and there are subtle changes (alphabetical index when selecting country or town in Weather, for example).
I would rather have the newer TouchFlo (the losses in animation are worth it for good performance).
So the question - anyone know where I can get the updated black Touchflo software for the 1.93 ROM? I appreciate I could flash a non-voda ROM into the phone, but would rather not - don't want to lose my Voda sat-nav, for instance.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated, guys.
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul From Swindon,
I'm Nathan From Oxford lol....oh the hatred (football Terms)
I'm using the vodafone ROM and i installed this great Diamond TF3D Config Tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405749
I then also got the Black Diamond Theme, can't remember the link for that and saved it to my internal storage.
I then used the Config tool to install the black theme.
Its fairly quick and keeps the extras like sat nav etc.
I did try installing the new HTC ROM however it DID like you say removed all the settings and the vodafone extras. so it took me about an hour to find and install the Vodafone one again.
Annoying!
Also in Oxford
hi guys, Ralf here also in Oxford. I've had my Diamond for about the same time and been playing with some of the tweaks to try and speed it up. Interestingly I bumped into a guy in Carphonewarehouse the other day who was the Microsoft Trainer for the Diamond. He was great and spent about 20 mins showing me around some areas of the phone. The unit he was running was not Vodafone branded and was so amazingly quick. I've managed to up the speed a bit but it's still slow in comparison to the unit I saw the MS guy with.
To be honest I've been very wary of trying one of the other ROM upgrades as I don't want to brick my handset or loose the Vodafone Sat Nav etc.
I just looked and my handset is on ROM 1.37.161.2 dated 26/6/08.
Can you please point me in the direction of where you got the latest Vodfone ROM from and how easy it to apply it (I should also add that I'm using a Mac not a PC so if there is some PC based tool then I'll have a small problem using it).
Thanks
Ralf
heres the link for the official vodafone ROM update LINK
its a piece of cake to install, but not sure about using a mac!
just a quick thought about the vodafone sat nav;
once you've clicked through the initial link, it just downloads a cab (installation) file,
which is easy enough to find and copy through active sync onto your computer for safe keeping.
Thanks
Cheers for the info and link there, I managed to download the installer and am just waiting now until the new PC laptop I ordered for my wife arrives at the weekend so that I can give it a go.
Thanks
Ralf
In Finland here. I want to use the official ROM as well, but my provider doesn't have one available, and the HTC Europe site tells me that the ROM updater is not for my device.
Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device.
I am a registered e-club member, with the serial number registered. How can I get the ROM properly? Or if I install this one from Vodafone, will it affect my phone somehow?

Hi Nwilko,
Did you have to install HardSPL before flashing original HTC rom?
Hi Guys,
Thanks for your thoughts so far - sorry, been off-line all week.
Nathan, thanks for your thoughts - this is what I tried doing, but when I installed the defalt black theme from this site via the config tool, it went incredibly slowly, and lost some of the new features in the TouchFlo system, such as alphabetical indexes on the weather, and seemed to return some of the aminations that had been taken out - it was taking up to 5 seconds to scrol between main screens, much worse than before - I also noticed I couldn't read some of the text.
I guess what I could do with is the Touchflo software from the 1.93 ROM update. It, I assume, exists as a cab that installs when you first switch on a non-branded phone after a ROM update. I am guessing that default one already comes with the black theme, and has the speed and menu improvements.
I have tried to live with the Voda theme for the last week, but there is no getting away from the fact that it looks terrible. The whole phone just looks so good when the black theme is applied.
I am tempted just to try and install the HTC ROM and scrap my Voda one. I really didn't want to lose Sat-Nav - I agree the link on the Voda ROM just downloads a Cab file, but I am worried it won't activate - does something in the ROM tell it that ot's on a free subscription, or does the website activate it from the mobile number - I don't want to pay 4.99 per month for it! Anyone tried it?
Thanks
Paul
Guys,
Gave up on trying to get a newer black theme for my Vodafone TD. Bit the bullet, and installed Hard-SPL, and the latest factory ROM (thanks in large part to the exceellent info on this site!).
So far all looks good - nice and quick, lovely black theme once more, nice speed, and newer radio ROM too (the new Voda Rom still had older radio version).
Fingers crossed, it seems much better - and because I kept the Vodafone Sat-Nav CAB file, re-installed it and it seems to work fine!!
Coolio!!
Paul
Rom
Hi guys I will I also have the same problem the vodafone diamond is to slow.
I will install this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405728
very good comments .I don't have time to do it now I am travelling abroad. I will be grateful if someone try it on vodafone devise, and rate it.
so, does anyone have the default black tf3d theme from a 1.93 rom?
Hi everyone, I am a bit of a flash junky thanks to the great selection of ROM's here at XDA-Developers, many thanks to all the great cooks here!!, but every time I flash a original ROM 1.56 or above when I restore my contacts and appointments via PPCPimBackup (v2.8.0.0) I experienced a slow photo contact problem, i.e. when I scroll through my contacts pictures this is extremely slow? it can take 3-4 seconds slowly flipping say 3 contact photos? not a problem with any cooked ROM?
I have tried tweaking the original ROM's via HD Tweak 0.5.4 but everything I have tried doesn’t work in speeding up contact photos in manila?
I am pretty much happy with most of the cooked ROM's available here, and the speed is generally much faster than the original ROM's, but wondered why the slow contacts tab in manila is appearing now?
Here’s hoping someone can clarify the problem for me.
Thanks again to everyone who contributes their valuable time here XDA-Developers.

May I ask why you continulously flash back to original rom? Why not stick with cooked rom's if problem only occurs on original?
Hi..
Hi Fallen Spartan.
I always flash back to original ROM before I flash a new cooked ROM, mainly because I found that through the flashing process, my varous PDA's over the years leave reminents of other ROM's can still be left in PDA?
I sometimes use original ROM's if I have to use TomTom alot, i.e. the lag is better with an original ROM?

as far as im aware, i've been flashing cooked ROMs for the last 6months and everytime i flash i dont go back to the stock rom, i just flash each rom after the other and nver had any problems, i am a loyal fan of Dutty's ROMs, but i also try other Roms to suit my likes, we are really fortunate for these cooks, we can only but help them by reporting bugs and the likes and offer inspiration and donations. all the best

No need to flash back to original rom. Once new rom is flashed all aspects of previous are lost unless you use backup software and restore registry changes.
Hi,getting my htc touch diamond this week (its in the mail) & was wondering as some of you folks out there have had yours a few years now can you give me a list of names for roms you think are worth trying ie Energy rom ,then i can go find them & collect them all to try out,i seen the energy one on utube love the icons & smoothnes of it but would like you guys ideas knowing more than me... thyanks in advance Ali... lincolnshire uk
There is so much variety out there. It really depends what you want to get from your device. Just have a look through the ROM section and pick out one with what you need.
Personally I use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740252
It's the fastest and most stable ROM I've tried yet.
Cheers for that yeh i been looking it seems there loads to pick from, ime just getting my head round how to flash one,i have flashed it but not the mtty way so just reading how to do it that way.. dont seem as easy maby ime missing some thing..
