Hi.
I've just SIM and CID unlocked my HTC Herald P4350 and now I've got the WM6 from the HardSPL method.
I've already seen other OS's like TouchIT and I liked it very much but since there a lot of them I'd like to know which one I should use or how do I choose the best ROM to flash my PDA.
Peace.
That's a thing only you know!
Do you want to use Manila2D? with Opera full? => OpenTouch 7.7 Biggy
Clean ROM? => Just2Clean
very clean ROM, but with some individual Programs like Opera Mini => JustME
Do you want an Opal Clone? => Try Gullums one
Do you want a clean ROM where you can install Manila on top => Open Touch 7.7 lite
you see, there are a lot of things to think about!
Give us some information what you use your Herlad for and we can help you better I think!

So, I'm 21 years old and what I'm looking in a PDA is that it works like a media center, a workstation and a GPS.
I may need to use to load some PowerPoint presentations. But more importantly I want all of this but with the most atractive look and lots of gadgets and informations on the "today" screen. i also want to play some games, see movies, listen to music, etc.

you could also look at the OPT that ttran made with the omnia theme... no power point but you can download mobile office anyhoo.
- Good luck mate
Well if you want to have something to play around with, you should perhaps use OpenTouch 7.7 biggy!
Manila 2D
Opera Full
Youtube
etc.
You only would have to install office (perhaps on storage card?!)

How about TouchIt WM6.1 Full?
And can you please link me those ROM's mentioned?
Open Touch 7.x ROMs
I only suggested ROMs I tested! I never used a touchIT, but if you like it, try it!
ruebyi
I can't find any of the download links in either of the ROM's... Neither TouchIT or Oper Touch.
http://www.evolvers.net/Herald_Roms/Version%207.7/
What about the TouchIT last version for the P4350? Can't find it either :x.
I'm still a bit confused by the amount of ROM's that exist and a question is still on my mind, does the ROM's for the Wing work on my normal HTC P4350? Because I've read somewhere that the Wing was the name given to the T-Mobile version and that it uses different ROM's.
Can anyone help me with this?
Is there a 100% working YouTube app for the Touch Pro with custom roms?
I've seached all over for a solution to get YouTube on my Touch Pro, and I've run across various solutions but none that work like the phone did out of the box. Some cabs have a QVGA app + VGA skin and some just don't play the sound. I've tried like 5-6 possibilities, and again, none of them work.
Does anybody have one that they installed and verified working?
Thanks!
Edit-
Solution: install HTC TouchFlo (non-3D) and YouTube will work. Credit to DA_G http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=47737

Skyfire works, although it's the video displays is far from smooth.
I was actually referring to the YouTube application in START->Programs. I find it a lot more functional as an application as opposed to having it embedded in a browser window.
Check your custom rom again - it probably has it installed. I know ROMeOS does for instance.

Yes but I really want the HTC application. The main reason is that I think that if this is resolved, I can also fix the same error that popups up when trying to open HTC Audio Manager.
Just reflashed a stock rom and it works. Flashed a 20931 base with ONLY YouTube selected and I get the error :/

What error? I know the Youtube app does come with various custom roms (and does work), so if the problem is when you try to cook your own, there's something you're doing wrong when adding it. Try asking in the ROM forum then, since the app itself is fine.

Error: "The file 'YouTube' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found."
Roms out there do have it, you're right, but it looks like the OEM in the latest kitchen is corrupted (the DSM file is substantially smaller from other Youtube_VGA OEM's I've seen). None of the builds work so it has to be the OEM, some dependency, or a setting/certificate of some sort.
We've made minimal headway on PPCGeeks: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=49296
HTC Youtube is dependant on HTC TouchFlo. It will spit back this error if you don't have it installed.. I have cab's for both on my ROM thread, and yes, they work
I even posted it up on ppcgeeks a while ago.. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=47737
I was getting that error, once I tried running opera mobile, left it running in the background, and started the youtube app. it works fine, even after i've closed both programs and rerun youtube by itself. after a reset or long time ( like days) of no use I sometimes have to do this again. If you're cooking your own roms however I'm clueless. This is just a workaround, and slightly annoying, but doable for me.
oh ya, I almost forgot. The player in kinoma play works flawlessly for me. Might want to try it

Wow.. that worked. I searched the crap out of these here internets and I clearly didn't read your thread. Thanks for the heads up.
the one from ppcgeeks works, it is the original one that comes with the sprint version of the htc touch pro (or diamond, i forget) but it works flawlessly and has high quality for if you have fast enough connection
The YouTube application is dependent on TouchFlo and HTC Streaming Media to work.
Here is a .cab for the youtube app in VGA as well as a .cab for HTC streaming media. If you install both it will work (at least it does for me) and my Raphael did not have either preinstalled in ROM.
Hope that helps.

I had the EXACT same problem a while ago. The problem was that the only way I could use HTC Youtube was to get a rom with it cooked in, which was problematic because it was limiting. I searched and search, finally forced to make a topic, and still couldn't find an answer. Eventually, diligence paid off.
I know you found the solution already, but here's one which doesn't require you to change the TouchFlo.
Do this:
1) Download HTC Youtube app of your choice - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=472940
2) Install Ravest Youtube Fix - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZGQJ3H0R
Using these two, I was able to get HTC Youtube to work in every single rom I tried so far.
Hopes this helps.

Hmm, to be honest, at this point, it has been a while since I had to use my own solution. See, I've switched to WM6.5, and my solution only worked (for the most part) with WM6.1.
I'm curious that you're looking for a solution, though. Doesn't pretty much all custom ROMs come with it cooked in nowadays?
Well... after doing some reading and watching a couple of you tube videos on the diamond I decided to have a play. I picked up a new boxed locked to orange uk htc diamond from fleabay for £160 inc postage... bargain I thought.
Things I've already done..
The first thing was to get it unlocked so I can use my O2 sim in it. This cost £14 via a site on here.. donation I believe goes to this site. I did download some unlocks via torrents and newgroups but at £14 (15 euros) and knowing the moneys going to someone who deserves it.. I decided to pay + its very simple and straightforward to do. Within 5 minutes I had a working phone on O2 ;-) Huzzah!
Then I sync'd it to my outlook that my iphone uses so I then had a full copy of my current contact's. I have added my email on imap4 to sync every 5 minutes.
Software wise I downloaded tomtom 7.910.9185 VGA Black and some Western Europe 1GB 815.2024 maps and 'got' them working (I already own 3 tomtom devices so I figured they have already had enough money off me for now). uploaded the latest uk speedcam files which I pay for from pocket thingy site and postcodes for good measure. Just tried it on the way to work and got a lock in under a minute which is very acceptable. This is a big plus in my eye's for the HTC over the iphone.. anyway.
Speed improvements - I then found some posts and a little you tube video on how to speed up the touchflo. There were three things you do in your settings (disable beams / disable quick menu on today screen and something else). I then downloaded the advanced config software from here and adjusted my memory cache / filter .. WOW what a difference doing this made.. major improvements !
So then whats next ? I used to use facebook alot and share prices so need to find some apps for them.. but I really can't believe I'm thinking about giving up my iphone...
Are there any apps or things that you could recommend to improve this phone anymore ?
Steve
Not sure if you know this but the diamond 2 has a new version of TFLO and XBOX and friends are trying to port it over to the diamond. Everyone and anyone who owns a diamond and knows about this is waiting patiently for this.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486471

Just read as much as you can.
UDK has a facebook built in to his ROM!
there is a bbc iplayer which works well you need a copy of coreplayer to use it tho! just search for it
there are pleanty of other useful apps here
flashing a cooked ROM is better any number of tweaks on a standard ROM !
thanks fellas for the advice
I stuck on HardSPL 1.43 and decided to have a play with one of the rom's.. after lots of reading I decided to try v6.4FullHDTFl .. this rom seems to have a good following and I am very impressed with it so far.
would you say this is a good choice ?
I have also seen all the porting work being done on from the D2... looking forward to an updated rom for that.. I have noticed you can download cab files for apps from the D2 would you advise on any for my current rom ?
top forum.. been a member for 5 years.. lol really pushing my posts this year.. lol
Steve
yeah thats i how i choose my ROMs ! the ones with the most followings are usually the better (i think). i personaly am a UDK follower although i have tried almost all other roms, some of which are as good
*Second post is a quick tutorial of all the steps I did*
For the past year+ I lots of problems with my tilt. Terrible keyboard response problems, like the keyboard only working 25% of the time. The touch screen being unresponsive or slow 50% of the time. I've hated my phone. Thought it was just a piece of junk. I soft reset so much I thought the reset button was going to fail.
I tried nearly every new ROM that came out, each time after being dissapointed because my problems remained, then I'd move on to the disable xt9 cab, tilt keyboard fix cab, keyboard speed up cab (which I'm still not sure if works, since I now have my initial keyboard delay set at 0 and I don't know if I see a difference), etc. Tried the touch sensitivity registry edit, installed the (I think) x1 touch sensitivity cab. But nothing seemed to change a thing.
I had realized that most of my issues were software related because sometimes things would work fine (for a couple minutes). I've tried the press the hell out of the keyboard buttons fix that was supposed to regain contact between the key, and the sensor for the keyboard, and pretty much everything out there.
Then I recently installed the HTC ROM for the Tilt, and voila, I have a new phone, works nearly flawlessly.
Since then, I have installed Manila 2d (start with update 20, install everything included, then install the latest version) youtube/opera/google maps/audio manager/pictures etc. all work perfectly, installed the Manila2D v20 N2A patch which fixed the weather tab to show my home town, M2DC and applied a new skin, Total Commander (to move the edited weathercities file), Wstask (awesome), ATT Navigator, Windows Live (great for syncing contacts), and it works perfectly. It's fast. I can use my phone now without the struggle, and am happier than I've been in a long time.
I haven't heard anyone suggesting this so I thought I'd let everyone know. This is the phone I always wanted from my Tilt. I have to assume that the minor hardware differences between versions creates a problem with non-native ROM's, and if you are having problems I recommend trying a factory ROM made for your device, you may be pleasantly surprised.
Dustin
*edit* As I'm sure most know, there are hardware issues with the keyboard for many, this will obviously not fix those issues. However, I was able to fix the massive software issues I've had which also effected the keyboard. I still have a testy Y key, but it's not a huge issue when compared to what it was like before. My phone works great.

Also, I wonder if there are any ROM cooks out there who are interested in cooking ROM's based on the Tilt ROM. That would be sweeet!!!
Dustin
*edit* I'm not sure about the ROM tmnt.mikey posted, but the link I've posted does not change the radio to that version, I flashed and have radio version 1.65.21.18. I'm not sure what radio I was using pre-flash (oops).
does this work with kaiser as well?
because at&t does not have the front camera...
so if i flash to this rom, will it render my front camera unusable?
not that it's really that important, i'd rather have my keyboard functioning well again.
other than that, is there any complication if i run this on my kaiser?
because in the HTC page, it's said... only for at&t tilt...
Kaiser ROM
I have no way to know if this ROM will work for the Kaiser, someone would have to try it out and let us know. I can't imagine it would brick the phone, but the keyboard layout is different, and the front camera thing. However, you might look for the latest Kaiser ROM from HTC then apply all the cabs you want and see if that works for you. I installed the ATT ROM, then did a soft reset before the apps were loaded to save space and clutter, then installed just the cabs I prefer.
It's been almost a week now, and it is still working perfectly. I've installed almost 20 different cabs, it is running faster, and more stable than it ever has. I love my phone now. The difference is stunning. I haven't had any issues thus far, and I've never experienced that before. I hit a button and it works, I touch the screen it works. I'm going off about it so much because I want everyone to know this phone is not a lost cause. I'm still a little in shock how well it works. I had written it off, and thought between HTC, and Microsoft that this phone was just going to remain a glitchy pain in the rear. My phone was so difficult to use that I almost stopped texting all together. I was practically marking off each day on the calendar waiting for the remaining year of my contract to run out.

i actually followed the link from dustintm...
but the download was not for my area (i'm in singapore)
and you can't download it anyways...
you need to key in your serial number...
and it has to match the region...
so if that really fixed the keyboard problem...
congrats to those guys in the same region as dustintm...
as for why it happened, i also don't know...
i read in some other thread that it's unlikely if it's dust or the rubber...
i also think it has to do with the ROM, since some days my 'a' keys works fine...
Asian TyTN II ROM
Hey Jonathan,
Here is the link to the HTC Asia download page for the TyTN II:
http://www.htc.com/au/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=13&act=sd&cat=all
Just so everyone knows, this ROM change I am talking about does not fix hardware related issues. I still have a testy "y" key, it works most of the time, but I do have to press it harder at times.
Prior to my find, I was having massive keyboard problems, sluggishness, having to press each key multiple times, etc. I was also having similar problems with the touch screen too.
This will not fix a hardware issue (obviously?). But I've found the new factory ROM has made my phone operate almost without flaw... for the first time. Responsive, stable and consistent. I can deal with the "y", I couldn't deal the snetacnes loking lik tihs (sentances looking like this (all the time)), and all the other problems/lock ups, etc.
Dustin
Keyboard problems sound like a hardware issue. You should try to find a local cellphone store that does repairs.
There is one in L.A. that can fix this for under $50.
Keyboard Problems
I found that I was experiencing hardware (keyboard), AND software related issues (keyboard, touch screen, sluggishness, and lock-ups). After installing this ROM all software issues have disappeared. I am very certain of this. One example is that occasionally the keyboard would work almost flawlessly (with the exception of the y key) and other times it was a complete struggle, multiple keypresses to register once, delay, etc. That made it clear to me that I was having software related issues.
I imagine it could have been ROM issues, or software related conflicts, but either way, I have solved my problems. I flashed to the latest HTC ATT Tilt ROM, and the following programs/cabs:

Hi,
I have 3PAYG using with Hero. The problem I am facing is:
Whenever i install any ROM which is not customised for 3 mobile, then i am unable to run skype on it. I get an error and skype closes immediately after signing in. Even I am unable to get the 3 Favorites page while using this ROM.
But when i use 3 customised ROM, then i get all the features available from 3 including skype.
Is there a work around to fool 3 while still using a non-3 ROM. I did some search on this forum, but couldnt find anything relevant. Apologies, if this has been discussed somewhere else, in that case please can anyone give me alink to that thread.
Many thanks
kish
I've been trying to work out exactly the same. Modaco 3.2 works great as that was based off a 3 Rom. Have you tried other 1.5 ROMs as i've not yet got round to seeing if it doesn't work because its incompatible with 2.1 or whether it is in fact that there is something hidden in the ROM from 3?

nope mate, i have tried just the v2.1 ROMS and unfortunately skype works on none of them. I think there are indeed some settings (root certificates, etc)
If some of the senior member can shed some light on this, it will be great.

if it's anything like the way 3 validate sony ericsson phone then there will be a certificate that you have to install to use their services.
I may not be a hero owner but this is just an idea:
anyone that's flashed a WM rom will know that when the ROM is first installed it runs through a series of tasks set out by an .xml file.
The way networks brand their phones is through this .xml file, it contains logos to replace the boot screen and wallpaper, also it contains an instruction to install the certificates to the phone.
This is because its easier for the network's techies to just create something like this than modifying the ROM itself.
This is true also for sony ericsson phones, its called a custpack.
For WM its called ExtROM.
My question is this: is there anything (remotely) like an ExtROM/Custpack for android/hero ROMS?
Josh.
Not sure if this info is any help here guys but I have a unbranded generic white hero, non rooted on stock 1.5 using a 3 simcard and I am able to download both skype and messenger from the 3 site and can use no problems.
The build number on my phone is 2.73.405.66 hope this helps

But to get the free skype to skype calls that 3 offer I'm thinking you would probably have to use the version provided by 3?
Its the main reason I haven't upgraded to 2.1, free skype and free messenger is to good to lose, but please correct me if I'm wrong here
Thanks but that's not what we're looking for, as that's skype lite which requires you to use skype credit to receive calls. What we're looking for is "skype beta on 3" which uses a special number to dial out and doesn't require credit to receive calls. The program is on the market, but that version only works with 1.5 NOT 2.1.
Although I hear that an update is on its way soon.
any luck anyone..
i think it relates to how 3 customises its phones (there should be some way in which authenticates which phones have 3 ROM)...

Don't think that is the case, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I am not using a 3 rom and have no problems accessing planet 3 and downloading the skype and messenger applications.
As I am using the generic unbranded HTC rom I find it highly unlikely to have been customized by 3!
So maybe the problem is not so much something that is missing but more likely some thing in the roms that shouldnt be there? just a thought
any thought by senior members?

Right... i'd have a read through here as it explains the issue a little more

What i wrote on the other thread regarding trying to run this on a 2.1 based rom below. Please note i've now had no problem running it on any 1.5 based rom, and have heard even some 1.6 devices have it running perfectly on a rom never touched by three, straight from another carrier.
I'm no dev, but looking at logcat, it seems the 'skype on 3 beta' crashes when trying to write the 'skype service' contact to the phonebook.
it errors trying to write to *content uri:* contacts/people/(number)/extensions as far as i can tell through my basic understanding, is that writing in that method is not supported under anything later than 1.6. It has been replaced by a new method.
I hope either some dev can workout what to change or we'll have to wait until three let it escape/release it!!! As i've worked out how to take apart the apk but lost when it comes to smali.
