No SIM card detected. - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General
Hi folks..
I've been having some problems with my 1 yr plus Tytn II...
Intermittently it will have no network issue. Once I go Comms Panel and OFF and ON the phone, network is fine.
But this will happen a few times, no matter if I'm outside the house or at home and
it will happen even if I leave it alone.
Also at times after a soft reset, it will says no SIM card detected.
I've tried to clean the SIM card with those rubber eraser, inserting a piece of paper on the back side of the SIM card, to no avail.
If I'm lucky it detects the SIM card.
I've tried using my sister's spare SIM card, same problems.
Any1 encountered before?
If repaired, would it cost a bomb? My warranty already over.
Or is it time for me to replace the tytn? *sigh*
I did search for no network, but think mostly it's the 3G networks having problems in some parts of the world.
Mine will intermittently have no network in 3G or not.

Check for dust/dirt around the contact area of the SIM and the slot contacts. Press lightly on the silver metal that crosses over the SIM slot to insure it is tight enough to insure good contact with the card.

erm why would you place a piece of paper behind the SIM card and why would you clean it with a eraser(should use a cotton rag or your shirt[NOT a washcloth they can scratch it]) by now the SIM shouldn't work in any phone and paper would stop the contact between the SIM and the SIM slot
i had the same problem some time ago...
the way i fixed it was with tape on the back of the sim card..
i know you tried paper but how much paper?
when i first put tape i would put a layer.. then nothing ... then another layer..
then nothing..
i finally got to the point where i almost broke the litle metal thing that hold the sim card in place.. but it finally worked..
i guess just hard presure fixed my phone not reading my sim..
jus my 2 cents

I hope you put the paper between the medal strip and the SIM, not under the SIM where the contacts are. If the SIM does not feel snug in the slot, remove the SIM and press down on the matal strip just a bit to tighten it. Also look carefully to see that the SIM is inserted correctly. The cut off corner does not go in first. Look carefully and you will find an illustration on the outside of the cover.

That's good value for money advice! There are posts here that mention about issues with sim connection on Tilt Specific versions of the Kaiser (although there's nothing in the Tilt specific wiki about it). As long as the paper/tape is on the back (non-contact) side and is used to push the sim closer to the contacts, it should help. If there's any chance the o/p can still return it under warranty, then try and do so. Warranties aren't hard and fast and if something fails very close to the end of the warranty period, many companies will still consider repairing it, especially if it's a 'known issue' that's cropped up. If the o/p spends some time doing a seach, I'm sure more details will come up. From what I recall reading, Kaisers other than the Tilt aren't affected and I've certainly had no such problems with my HTC branded device.

yup, I did a search and mostly was recommended to use the paper thingy.
will probably call up the HTC service centre and ask how much it would cost to repair it.
I had to lose my tytn haha. now having withdrawal symptoms using a simple nokia hp.

will try that... I did put till it was very tight to remove the paper and SIM card..

I figured it might be the SIM contact problem, hence the paper on the sim card.
the sim card is working well with my spare nokia hp though.

Thank you all very much. This just happened to me and I was able to resolve with the paper behind the sim card. A real life saver since my tilt is now 14 mos old and out of warranty.
I totally forgot abt this thread...
mine was repaired for SGD 150, including the diagnostic fee since it's out of warranty...

I had the same issue with an 18 month Tilt. HTC quote was $124 US as diagnostic fee and over $300 if the board needed replacement. The shim to the back of the card was not working. Bought a new HTC brand SIM card reader from ebay for $24 US including S&H. All is well.
was it easy to DIY?

Some rubber erasers contain a small amount of ground pumice, for the sole purpose of scratching the top layer of paper when you use it to correct a mistake (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eraser#Types).. Using a rag or shirt alone will not remove any oxidation from the surface of the contacts, although if they are gold-plated they should be resistant to oxidizing anyway..
I just had the same problem today with my SIM card. So far, paper hasn't helped. (I stuck 3 layers of white adhesive binder label on the back of the SIM, and trimmed around it w/scissors) -- still no luck.

Exactly so I think rather than using a potentially abrasive eraser, it'd be best to use a specialist contact cleaner (designed just for such things) applied to a cotton bud and rubbed against the sim holder contacts and then the sim itself. It seems to me that as long as the contacting surface is spotlessly clean then packing the SIM closer to the contacts with pieces of paper behind it, shouldn't be necessary (even though it may help). A small aerosol can of contact cleaner is cheap enough and it can also be used for battery contact cleaning every few months (something it pays to do with a TyTN II in my experience).
Touch wood, my phone is still going strong as far as the sim connectivity is concerned but then its probably only ever endured 20 or so sim removals and refitments in its whole existance - maybe those experiencing problems are predominantly frequent sim removers or changers?

I may be that the reason many are getting different results, is that your tackling the wrong area of the ph as the problem. I just fixed my TYTN ll using this solution by Tilt Fanatic -Fix for No Sim Detection Problem!-

He figured out that its source is the simm cover latch and the micoswitch that it catches on underneath. Over time this ability to catch onto microswitch, degrades so "the problem is that the outside switch is not fully catching the inside one, which is why the sim isn't being detected". Thus for many people the constant insert and closing of the simm cover inadvertantly fixes the problem. Not the deoxidizing or cleaning contacts with a rubber etc. Try it. Use something to press the inner mico switch hard up while turning on the phone. It was an instant fix for my ph, showing it was the correct source of the problem of "no simm card present". Thanks to Tilt Fanatic correctly identifying it.

hi now success with sim cover XDA is verry old device,so its very difficult to find sim cover.For me i try to do with my own thinking .1st open all hardware and try to take anything to envelop a small button that make phone off, finally success with paper so next i ll take some photo....

[Q] What is Wrong with my Nexus One?
Hi there. Ive had my Nexus One for about a month now, I barely use it. Anyway, I went to turn it on today. I had to remove the battery twice and on the third time it finally worked. What was happening was that it would start up and freeze on my lock screen. Also earlier today, I took some pictures on my phone. then when I went into the gallery it didnt show any pictures or any folders. It was simply blank. I came back about 30 minutes later and everything was fine. Whats wrong with my phone? Ive barely installed any apps, no 3rd party software. I dont understand. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Remove the MicroSD card from the phone, take some alcohol-soaked piece of cloth, and scrub the contact points on the card. Then put the card back when it dries.

Pure alcohol, ethanol. You can use alcohol wipes as long as it's pure alcohol.
Just to clarify the use of alcohol. You want something that evaporates without leaving any traces (besides maybe a smell). Beer just makes things sticky, so it's not a very good choice. Vodka is not the best choice, but if nothing else is around you could use it. Best choice is isopropyl, you can get a decent bottle pretty cheap at any drugstore. It's pretty much rubbing alcohol, and can be used on all sorts of electronic stuff for cleaning contact parts.
[Q] HTC one sim card reader
Hi All, So my wife smashed her screen on the HTC one. (aussie optus version) I ordered a new screen/front housing to replace it.: etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html Followed some good tutorials and teardowns and managed to get it apart without any damage :good: I put the internals and front screen back together and it all worked fine apart from the sim card, it couldn't be read/detected! :crying: After checking all my connections, trying tape on the back of the sim card, I tested the sim reader out of the original housing. the thing works! youtu.be/4Iy-f3aQOUA Now anyone who has pulled these apart knows that you cant get to the sim reader without seperating the screen from the front housing. i'm not keen to do that unless I have to. So do I have a dud sim card reader? Do etrades sim card readers require their own sim tray to work correctly? (using original sim tray) Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?
It's alright. I bit the bullet and pulled the front screen off with a bit of heat and a suction cap, and replaced the sim reader. it went back together perfectly. result = happy wife

MicroSD Cover Very Loose
Does anyone else seem to be having this issue? Mine will never close completely and does not stay flush agains the phone like the sim card cover does... I can't seem to get it to stay completely closed no matter what I do. Is it supposed to be completely flush agains the side of the phone?

I received my phone today and unboxed it. I immediatley noticed a slightly opened nano SIM slot cover. I tried to push it in but the cover always popps out after a while. I cleaned it with alcohol to get more friction between the o-ring and the mating surface of the cell phone but it continued to popp out. Looks like they have some issues with the covers and the shape of the o-ring/ packing. Its definitely not water proof like that so I am sending it back to get a replacement phone. However, the micro SD slot cover on my phone was flush and tight.
Hi, I have same problem. Cover is popping out slightly immediately after closing and after some time in pocket its usualy almost or completly opened.

**UPDATE** I exchanged it and the replacement phone doesnt has the problems. So if you get your phone, check it first for this failure. Some have it, some dont.
Ughhh this is kind of crap, I took a risk and bought this phone from a seller outside my country :crying: and Sony Canada won't recognize their warranty. Other than this flap issue I really love it..

Sony Canada probably won't start fixing these devices until it is actually released in Canada.

Returned mine back to the store today, took some time to convince them that there was a problem as the flap takes about 3-4 minutes to pop up out of it's hole and only comes out about 0.5-0.8mm (hardly a lot), but enough to make me concerned about it not being fully waterproof. Apparently it was the first Sony Z3 compact that has this problem, but I'm glad I saw this thread before going back to the shop Eventually the guy said they'll take it and get it repaired and will take 2 weeks to get it back, hopefully all it needs is a new flap. Glad I took it back though, and hopefully when it returns the flap will stay down, as otherwise it is the best phone I've ever had!

I had exactly this problem. In my pocket the cover would work its way loose after a few minutes. I noticed that the stem of the cover was not perpendicular to the short edges of the cover itself, so when closed (with the stem presumably parallel to the screen), one of the long edges would be pushed outwards. I hope that's clear ish. Anyway, bending the stem to be perpendicular to the cover seems to have fixed my problem. I've been using my phone all day, and the cover hasn't come loose once. I'll keep you all posted as to whether this "fix" keeps working.

****, i made a new topic a couple of min ago about the same issue with the sim trapdoor. doesn't stay clipped in properly. getting it replaced. check the screen for light bleeds with a screen test app black screen at max brightness, and white balance for pink issues... freaking pain...

Click to collapse I've had the same issue as you, but after i bent a bit the flap cover's stem(tiny plastic stem that holds the flap cover between the port's hole and the flap cover), the flap cover was fixed.. you need to check if the stem aren't straight, make it straight, it worked for me.
Sim Card Flap Water/Moisture sensor
Hi guys.. So shortly after a Dip my XZ has decided that it can't read my sim card, everything appears dry and the moisture sensors under every flap are still white.. Except under the sim flap. (I can't see any) Does the Sim Card slot have a moisture sensor? Could someone pop theirs open and have a look for me? If so a picture would be nice, not necessary if there isn't though Thanks!
