dialer idea - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

is it possible to make a dialer that uses the photosensor to detect when ur holding the phone to your ear and automatically put the phone to sleep when it is and awake it when u pull it away...like on the iphone.

go buy an iphone. This question has been killed in this forum with all of the answers leading to very little innovation with what hardware the fuze offers.
I would say use the light sensor but if you have opened an app, like lumens, and seen how much the light senor picks up in a mildly dark room (like with a lamp in the opposite corner) it registers 0, you can't register under with the sensor, maybe there is a way to lower it's minimum but i think there is a gap.
Also maybe it could sense only when the phone is in phone mode, but if you get a call, and are in a dark room, then you are screwed if you need to do anything on your phone...
This is my two cents, i just think everyone who wants an Iphone should just go buy one.

The question was to have the raphael react or function like a feature on the iphone. If the iphone had not come out then you would be stuck with boring features, as far as buying an Iphone why would he do that if he/she already has a nice shiney phone he/she can custumize it which is something the iphone cant do. For the original question there is a way using gsensor. Place the phone face down and it hangs up, raise the phone to its up right position and it will do what ever you ask it to do. I dont know the name of the app but please search gsensor apps and Im sure you will find what your looking for best of luck. fyi I beleive they have a thread in the diamond forum. But the keyword is "gsensor app"
edit: I looked for you try this thread: the name of the program is gyrator 2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=430541
you have to tell it what to do so dont expect it to work right out the box, explore the settings and functions of the app, good luck

touchscreen inaccurate?

Has anyone else notice the touch screen being very inaccurate on their kaiser? I mostly notice it in the dialer. For example i press 5 and it does 8 instead. Sometimes i even hit 2 and get 8 which is really bizzare. I'm using the HTC dialer, so maybe thats the issue. I'm going to switch to the windows dialer tonight and see if thats any better. I also have problems getting it to recognize presses at all sometimes. Sometimes i have to press the screen so hard that it distorts (i know thats bad for it but i just get so frustrated, especially when the photo album randomly opens while im on the phone, and then when i need to use the keypad I can't get the damn album to close because the screen doesnt recognize my tap, or thinks im tapping somewhere else. I've ran the screen alignment a few times, and tried doing it with my finger and with the stylus. Do i just have a dud?
Josh
Have you tried realigning the screen? Pretty basic stuff.
I have the same exact problem. Especially with the numbers. I switched to the other dialer (no video cal one) and its still the same. I have calibrated tons butits no better.
Yes, as i said, i've ran the screen alignment numerous times, and tried it both with the stylus and with my finger.
yea, i have teh same problem.. its definiately not a realignement problem.
It happens with the htc dialpad, and somtimes the htc skined calculator
i thought maybe it could be touchflo.. i didnt have this problem at all with the 8525
And I thought it just me!
I get this problem too when using the dialler (both HTC and WM6).
Looks like a few of us have this problem. I notice it on the today screen using HTC home, i go to tap the weather icon and end up opening the clock. Try diabling the touch cube (if you have it installed) seemed to improve things for me.

I've noticed this. I always align my screen with the stylus to get the best accuracy but when certain app's are loaded that are designed for finger use, they change the touch-screen sensitivity so that when you need to use the stylus again for small items, its all screwed up!
I found if I stick to what the unit is designed for its OK!

So the Kaiser was not designed to make phone calls? Perhaps you are supposed to only dial people from your contact list (synced from MS Outlook of course) or use MS Voice Command?

Oh, here we go...
NO, what I meant is that if you want an iPod type interface then buy one. The 'Kaiser' comes with a stylus that gives you precise touch input.
To use a 'grubby' finger to gain access the touch interface has to be 'DE-Tuned' to accept an approximation input and once an app that does this is installed you will have to accept some changes for precise input apps you already have!
For pity's sake, some people expect things out of this device even a Tablet laptop could not provide!!!

Well I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I have always found the phone dialer to be a problem and after 4 device iterations and 3 OS iterations, you would think it could be resolved.
Plus, HTC included TouchFlo on this device, which to me is also severely flawed to the point of being worthless. Even so, this sets the expectation that you can use your "grubby" finger when you need to, not only to dial a phone number but to scroll a contact list.
I don't get why you toss out constant excuses for the Kaiser not being designed to do this, that or the other thing. As far as I am concerned, I paid 3 times the cost of a modest dedicated GPS, dedicated PMP and a phone to get it all in one CONVERGED device. If only I wanted a phone, I would have bought a phone, if only I wanted an MPS player I would have bought an MP3 player, etc, etc, but I opted to pay much (much, much) more for the ability to get all these things in ONE device. So why should I not have a right to be disappointed with problems that linger for years and years, or for poor implementation of features that had better support on lesser devices, such as video playback.
Granted, HTC does not out this product as a media player, but given that it is similar in design to previous models, which did at least an adequate job, has left many people who thought they were upgrading feeling disappointed. Plus, it is VERY difficult to try all these features out before making a decision, and when people come to place like this forum to ask questions, they get flamed.
It seems your solution to the disappointment is to buy a fanny pack and load it up with a camera, a game player, an mp3 player, a personal media player, a phone, a GPS... and what the heck, we'll even throw in a Kindle for good measure.
What's up? Do you sell fanny packs?

My only advice to people who constantly moan about the device like you do is take it back or sell it!!
It obviously is not what you want so why do you keep it??
Sure, that's easy to say. I'll just go and drop another $500+ on a phone and memory card. What the heck. It's only money, right? And while I'm at it, I'll just plop down another $200 for getting out of my AT&T contract. And then keep my fingers crossed I can get a decent price off eBay. And that's even before spending time reflashing the AT&t ROM to stock and getting an unlock code. Cmon, get real.
If the Nokia N95 had a touch screen or the Sony W960i had support for AT&T bands, I would have already dropped this model. I could use a break from WinMo anyway. To bad Symbian isn't as popular on this side of the pond.
Otherwise, I don't see any non-HTC phones other then the E-Ten X800 that I would consider a major upgrade to my 8125. I sat on the sidelines for the Tytn I because I wanted on board GPS. What a poor tradeoff that turned out to be. It is likely I will wind up going with a T-Mobile Shadow keep the phone and and break the contract, which would still be cheaper than what I paid for the Tilt after the AT&T deal. Hopefully I'll be able to come out even after all is said and done. At least it is smaller and cheaper.
I'd wait for the Cruise but I am not too thrilled to pay nearly 3/4 of a grand for something that can't render video.
Yes, I am frustrated. From the AT&T bloatware to the lack of accessories (it didn't even come with a case????) to the video driver problems, the TouchFlo not working, yada yada yada, I've had it with this phone. I actually liked my 8125 better, and as a basis of comparison, I saw far fewer complaints about that model when it was the top dog.
So sad to say, the Kaiser looks great on paper, but it falls short on implementation.

Gyrator in Bed

*minds out of the gutter*
I frequently use my phone in bed while lying down sideways (years of using my laptop in bed have made this so). This means that Gyrator gets completely screwed up because my head is sideways, giving no hope for the screen to be oriented the same way as my eyes. I usually have to move around a lot to get it to line up, or give up and sit up.
Is there a way to switch Gyrator, or your phone, to know that sideways is up for a temporary period of time? Does anyone else deal with this problem? Is this the most meaningless problem you've ever heard of? Is all this way too much information about my bed habits?
I have the same problem with Opera on my Fuze.... You are not alone, sir.
+1 Agreed
I uninstalled gyrator last night whilst in bed as it was annoying me so much.
I honestly thought I was the only one with this problem.
I ended up just using PIE for anything I wanted to read (which worked out since I mostly read short stories on websites)
I have not come across anything that might do what you're asking, and although I wasn't exactly looking for it I think it would have caught my eye.
If I find anything I'll let you know. Power to the bed-gyrators! (?)
Agreed. Uninstalled Gyrator for the same reason as yours.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=465586
Get it and add exceptions to it for apps you use in bed
I think it might be easier to just crash Gyrator in bed. There are no apps I use exclusively why lying down.
Try playing Teeter while lying down sideways. It's a mess!
follow kraize's advice and install this alternative to gyrator. much easier to configure and has some diff settings that are def what ur looking for.
My wife loves her Gyrator, she uses it in the bed, at her desk at her office... I think she likes it too much......
+1 for Change Screen. I've been using it for 2 days and not 1 problem and very easy to customize.
Hahah, I totally have this same problem. But then, I don't think it bothers me enough to actually do anything about it. And it would annoy me more to have a switch an app on and off to change the behaviour.
Must...get...disappointed mind...out of.....gutter...
I like that I can set Gyrator to allow certain rotations, and not others, so that TouchFlo and the phone app only flip, but don't rotate. I believe I couldn't get that level of control with Change Screen.

just bought an incredible s. questions?

hi there. i bought this phone yesterday and it's great. i love it. best phone i've ever owned.
however i have a few niggling questions;
i find the touch buttons to be very difficult to see in sunlight. is there a way to brighten them? or are all the phones like this. my mother has a galaxy s and i feel her touch buttons are brighter.
is the power button meant to be so slim to the phone? i can find it hard to press sometimes.
secondly, how come my LED notification light only stays on for a short time when i receive a text? i would have thought it stayed on until the text was read, but when i get a text and don't notice for half an hour to an hour the LED isn't flashing. if i receive a text (and i'm there to notice it) the LED flashes. again, is this just my phone or everyones?
also, how safe is it to install the swype beta on your phone? and how safe is it downloading pdf's (accidentally, opened a link on a reputable train website) on to my phone over the 3G network?
and finally, not as important, but the standard version of angry birds seems to always lag/crash at startup. i don't know whether it's due to the ads, but i have to hit home before i am able to click 'start', and then the same again when the level loads up before i can move the birds. i've played rio and that seems fine.
OH, and one more thing. if i go from an area with good 3g reception to an area with poor 3g, and then back again, my phone takes a while to catch up, so i have to turn off mobile networks and then back on again to get 3g back. normal?
sorry for all the questions.
thanks. peace.

The Incredible S's capacitive buttons have a unique feature compared to other devices, they get to turn when you put your phone in landscape mode (only in one direction). In order to achieve this, they use a different method of illumination. What you may also notice is a kind of ghost of the buttons secondary positions beneath what is displayed in a round border if looked at at the right angle. However, it also gives the possibility to have nothing at all showing up when the lights are off giving it a cool look (I find ). Compared to other phones I've seen, I'd say that it's normal for the IS to have slightly less bright touch buttons.

The IS was given what some people call a very industrial look. Aside from the back cover, the phone is very minimal in the sense that nothing extrudes from it. The power as well as the volume rocker buttons are even the same colour as the body. All to give it that slab look. The volume rocker sticks close to the body too, and I'm sure your phone is perfectly fine. You'll get used to it

If you trust the source (and are sure that the file is indeed a pdf, there is no problem at all.

The reaction time not being immediate is normal, but how long do mean by "a while"? 10 seconds or 10minutes? I could only think of a radio problem if it's really bad. Could you share what version of android and what's your baseband version on your phone?

I think that other question has been answered so i will skip it.
LED notification i will only last for 5 minutes, so far i haven found out any ways to stretch up the time until we read the message or any other notification.
I think they set it to only 5 minutes properly of the battery drain?
Hope its help.

HTC One vibration sound

Picked up this phone just today and my god I love this phone to death but every phone comes with complaints. Most things arent big and will just take time to get used to but this one I cannot ignore. I love having the vibrate on keypress option selected and the HTC One when it vibrates makes this very unpleasant loose spring like sound whenever it vibrates. Am I the only one thats noticed this or is this every device?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
many people do have this ... me too.... thats my second device and both of them got this crappy vibration sound...
i replaced it because of that .... but because of that i disabled every vibration functions on this phone to get rit of it ....
so i guess you have to live with it ... try to replace it and hope you get one with a good vibration motor or disable all vibrations

I'm sure there will be soon an option in custom roms to control vibration intensity, and put it to the value you like! it's only a matter of time, I'm sure!
[I'm sure there will I am currently facing the same issue with my replacement and thinking about replacing it again but hesitant because every device comes with its own minor defects, u only notice the alight clicking in a very quite environment and only on short vibrates such as when typing, but to be honest this is as perfect as it can get, everything seems to work with this device with no problems except this, and I might apply for a replacement and end up with a worst unit and another major issue, I have emailed HTC complaining about their quality control, cuz my first device had gaps and a tiny hair under the screen, my second device had a touchscreen problem and now this one which has a minor vibration sound.
The problem is I am too picky when it comes to this kind of stuff and a little ocd about them so I am positive that other people won't even notice the issue and even the repair tech might claim it's normal and in all devices. So yeah
my device is work related so giving it to them for 2 full days is kind of troublesome for me
add me to the list
I have had my HTC One for 2 days now. I too noticed this on mine. I just chalked it up to the phone being all aluminum case vs my old EVO was plastic/metal. I have a few other complaints too lol.
Ok the rants!
1. Why did you have to move all the buttons all over the place? Seems like every button is opposite to other android phones? Especially moving the power button to the far left? Who designed this? Must of been a left handed person. Come on at least compromise and put in the middle! Stupid!
2. Why limit to only 3 buttons at the bottom of the HTC one and in all actuality...you never enabled the "HTC" to be a button so we are stuck with 2! Most phones have at least 3! Again Stupid!
3. The Home button and back buttons. Ok maybe the person designed this drives on the wrong side of the road or goes in the exit door or something? The buttons need to be flipped in my humble opinion. Home first (left side) or at least in the middle, back button to the left or right sides. OH and bring back the quick access button!
4. Ok speaking of the "HTC" logo/button at the bottom. Why put in circuitry for it to be a button and then not enable it? Stupid #3!
5. The widgets for "Bluetooth", Wireless", "Mobile", and "GPS". Why light blue for the "on notification". Seems like a **** poor color choice. At least a green or red would be fairly noticeable considering the widget itself is blue? Hello.....great designing there.
6. The power button. More recessed then ever before making it difficult to push down or even find. No step up here.
7. Lock screen can only have 1 widget on it? Really? Wow...couple steps back here.
8. Full animated weather locking screen gone/no longer available because HTC forces you to use their one and ONLY ONE version their crappy line art weather on the lock screen. I don't mind the plain jane weather for showing up in the app list but placing it on the bottom of the lock screen with nothing else is horrible. I want my weather back to the lock screen. I know I have mentioned it a lot...sorry pet peeve, have it it so long on all my other phones.
9. I won't mention Blinkfeed. I have that pushed off the side and hear that sense 5.5 is around the corner which will allow you to finally turn the damn thing off.
Hey guys, I wanted to point out that you can reduce the vibration intensity, therefore getting rid of the "springy" feeling! Just download FauxClock. (Yes you need root of course). Gratefully this app doesn't require you to flash anything, it just needs BusyBox. The only downside to reducing the intensity is after so far you basically lose haptic feedback. (I wanted to reduce notification buzz.) And this is where I went with plan B.
Plan B (NO ROOT!): This method, you guys, will make you feel real dumb for not thinking of. Personally I did this to get rid of notification buzz but keep haptic feedback, but you can also just turn off buzz on certain apps. Simply open up App-ops on Android 4.3, go through all your apps, and untick the "Vibration" permission! That's it guys! Feel dumb now?
Note: to open App-ops is an activity, you can download App-ops launchers from Play Store or, in my case, I used a Tasker task.

[Q] Z3c screen response very poor

Hi guys! All new to this site. I just got a z3c and everything is really great, but for 2 things:
The screen response is so poor, that if it can't be fixed, I'm returning it. Deal breaker.
Whenever I tap something, the screen responses in about 1 second. That is too long. Way too long.
Any of you tried the "Don't tap the white tile" app? (it's a game, where you have to be fast on your fingers) If you have (or you think, that your phone is NOT slow, please give it a go)
The swiping seems to be ok, it's the tapping that's delayed!
I'm hoping that it's just my phone and it can be replaced, 'cause otherwise I will have no choice, but to find another one.
Also is it not possible for me, to decide wether or not an app can have acces to internet? On iPhones you can manually dissable every app from using the internet, both wifi and regular. This can also prove to be a deal breaker for me.
I hope you can help me to find out if I should keep this, apart from that stuff, really wonderful phone or if I have to go back to iPhone, which I don't want to actually.
Regards Kokinos, Denmark
"Whenever I tap something, the screen responses in about 1 second." - that is definitely not normal. I am playing Wordz and screen response is instant.
There are many apps to control permission (e.g. Internet) for individual apps, but it requires root - APP OPS is the best. But you might try this, which works without root: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netspark.firewall&hl=en or this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.permissionmanager&hl=en

Thanks a lot, Dave! I'm so pleased to hear that, I will take it to the store and ask for a replacement then
-funny thing is, if I tap really hard, as in so hard the pixels round my finger turn black and I'm holding on to the phone with the other hand so tight, that it's on the verge of breaking, it IS possible to get the phone to react a, almost, once.
But swipe seems to work alright. I can't understand that. I actually thougt it was a software flaw and not a hardware one. But maybe I'm wrong.
I'll read into your links. My boyfriend might be able to understand a little more of it, so he'll help me
Nobody, that have noticed a delay on tapping, but not swiping?
Anybody I can convince to try the "Don't tap the white tile" game? It's free. I can play it fine on a iPhone, but on my Z3c the screen doesn't react fast enough. Unless I tap so hard, the pixels around my finger turn black and that can't be healthy for the phone.
It's not, that this game is important, it's just, that it shows very accurate, wether your sceen has delay or not.
That white tile game is the piano kind of game from Cheetah game studios? In case I just tried it and no issues with the screen response while tapping. It's more likely that you have a faulty device :/

Thanks for your not so helpfull comment. I would certainly NOT have pressed that hard, if it weren't for the fact, that I either would return it or have a replacement. Luckily I'm located in Denmark. We have excellent consumer rights. Otherwise I would be stupid to have done so.
