Backup and Restore after New/Updated ROM question for TP2 owners

Hi All,
Regardless of what backup tools you are using, I know everyone do backup your stuff. (If not, most people)
Do you restore your backup from your backup copied after you installed your latest ROM? or installed everything from scratch again???
Will there be any different result if you do one or the other way? Will your phone works better on either way or its doesn't makes any different?
I noticed (In my opinion) some of you report your phone works greats after the latest ROM and some said it make your phone worst.
Isn't the backup/restore ONLY work great if you still have the same ROM and not when you tried to restored it on the new ROM or vise-verse??? cos each ROM might have different coding???
Anyone one?
P/S: Please help move it to the correct thread, if you think I post it on the work thread, Thanks! :>
Hi radiowc,
IMHO I'll suggest to install everything from scratch after an update that includes a hard reset, including reg edits, and only restore data like Contacts, Appointments, etc.
That's my doing since '04...
Best,
halnovek
Just today I had to hard reset due to that tf3d theme maker app. But anyways, I used SPB backup and it worked perfectly. It brought my phone back exactly the way I had it before the mishap with that app. All the contacts, ringtones, apps, fonts and themes etc.... I had to do absolutely nothing to get my phone back to the way it was. I am very pleased.
I updated my ROM recently and restored using SPB backup from the old ROM and everything has been going perfectly fine.
I use sprite backup and that works very well.
After a rom update I use "merge level 1" and I have every thing back without messing the new rom.
In other cases restore is almost writing back an image.

1.25.707.1 cl227575 release-keys AND backup

Hello guys, im planning to root and flash my wildfire device for the first time, i already studied and review all related things on hot thing done in wildfire..
now, the only question and seems not posted here..
As i bought my wildfire the stock ROM version is "1.25.707.1 cl227575 release-keys", where can i download this ROM so that incase i got a problems with different custom roms i can revert it back to my original rom version, i cant seems to find it in SHIPPED-ROMs website..
and if there no such thing as that version in the net, is it possible to backup my original ROM?.. (i guess not because i need first the custom loader to have the backup features which will wipe first my original rom before i can backup)..
Thanks!..
as far as i am aware you can use unrevoked to root your phone. this will also install clockworkmod which replaces stock HTC recovery tool. within clockword mod you can make a backup of your current ROM and all apps and settings etc. you dont need a custom ROM to backup your existing ROM. just need your phone to be rooted. which is pretty much a one click process once you have got the windows drivers installed.
not sure about posting external links on forum but google unrevoked and see this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7895908&postcount=127
good luck

Backing up everything and installing nightly builds

Hi I have just rooted my Legend and installed Cyanogen mod and its all running lovely.... I notice that the nightly builds come out quite regularly.
My question is this....
What is the best way to install the new ROM?
What is the easiest way to get all my settings/ installed apps back? Is there a nice and easy way of backing up everything so that I can install the new ROM and then reinstate everything?
Thanks in advance for any useful info.
Matt
Hi ,
One software for all : Rom Manager
With it you can :
backup & restore all your phone (from app or from recovery menu in nandroid area)
It also allow you to download and install other ROM like nightly build
Bye
Not sure if that is what the question meant? I thought they wanted to know how to reload all apps and settings on the new rom, not just how to recover back to the old rom.
I thought titanium backup would be the go, but I myself am still getting the hang of this whole rom flashing thing.
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
If it is just for restoring installed apps, then Titanium Backup would be the best way for me.

[Q] Is there anything I HAVE to backup

I'm thinking of flashing to a Cog version rom. My question is if I want to start clean like my phone just came out of the box, do I need to backup any files. I'd like to just flash back to factory, master clear, and do a clean install of a new rom. Is this possible or do I need certain files? I'm a noob at this so sorry if this is a stupid question or posted in the wrong place.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "out of the box" since you're flashing a custom rom, but if you flash to stock and master clear you will lose all your settings and anything on your internal storage including photos and music. So it will basically be like a new phone, except with all the greatness of cog.

If you don't want to backup anything, there is nothing you have to backup. I'm wondering why you wouldn't back up your apps though.
You don't really have to backup anything. But I'd probably just do a titanium backup just in case. You never know if you might change your mind in the future. Would be nice not to have to redownload all of your apps and settings.

Going back to a previous ROM

OK I've done all my research on flashing my Captivate. I have rooted and installed Titanium Backup. I have also installed ODIN3 and ROM Manager.
Before I flash a new ROM, I have a few questions.
1)I have worked diligently to purchase apps I like and use often. Changing the ROM clears these and all I have done. How do I save this setup and where do I save it to? Can I flash back to my original with everything in tact?
2)Upon choosing a new ROM and installing it, can I go back into the market and re-download apps I have already purchased? ex:Beautiful Widgets.
Please understand I am trying this for the first time. PLEASE be specific!
Thanks Tomween1

Titanium Backup will take care of all that for you....
but yes, even if you dont use titanium backup, you can go into the market and your purchased items will be there.
apps that you purchase (pay money for) are bound to your google account. as long as you sign into the same google account after flashing a new rom or stock rom, you will be able to download all of those apps.
