Hi I have just rooted my Legend and installed Cyanogen mod and its all running lovely.... I notice that the nightly builds come out quite regularly.
My question is this....
What is the best way to install the new ROM?
What is the easiest way to get all my settings/ installed apps back? Is there a nice and easy way of backing up everything so that I can install the new ROM and then reinstate everything?
Thanks in advance for any useful info.
Matt
Hi ,
One software for all : Rom Manager
With it you can :
backup & restore all your phone (from app or from recovery menu in nandroid area)
It also allow you to download and install other ROM like nightly build
Bye
Not sure if that is what the question meant? I thought they wanted to know how to reload all apps and settings on the new rom, not just how to recover back to the old rom.
I thought titanium backup would be the go, but I myself am still getting the hang of this whole rom flashing thing.

If it is just for restoring installed apps, then Titanium Backup would be the best way for me.

Hey guys, well I have a Touch HD, and I just recently got one for my mother too. She wants to take mine as it is already loaded with everything and she wouldnt have to go through each step one by one installing everything. So my question to you...im running on a stock rom with hardspl and alot of apps downloaded and installed and configured to my liking. SO...is there a way to do a COMPLETE backup of the stock rom with all the crap that i have installed, basically in order to DUPLICATE the phone ??
Please help guys
Sprite backup should do it.
and this will back up EVERYTHING? make a DUPLICATE of the phone?

Quick question, I hope I didn't miss this being answered somewhere else already. I like flashing different roms, and when I find one I like staying up to date with the latest version. However I'm sort of new at this and for a while I was just flashing Cyanogen's Roms, never needed a wipe.
My question is if I do the nandroid Backup + ext install a new rom, then restore that backup, is it taking me back to the previous rom that it was backed up on as well? If this is the case is there a way to pull the certain info and just move it into the new Rom?
The reason I ask is as much as I like doing this, it's somewhat time consuming setting up my shortcuts the way they were before, resetting my Locale (Program) situations, my scoreboard favs so on etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.
try "mybackup pro" from the market...
that will restore custom settings and apps to your new ROM
it may not do everything but its can get ya pretty close
Thanks

Thanks I'll give that a shot tonight, anything I don't have to redo is an advantage.
First, I have to thank the XDA forums helping me come over from my long WinMo background. Mad Props...
Being new to Android and my nexus one, I'm feeling the ROM flashing bug and want to try out a couple of different ROMS but don't want to have to add all of my accounts each time since I use crazy long, nearly impossible to type, passwords.
Is there some way to restore some of the configuration of my N1 between different ROM flashes?
Sorry if this has been covered, but I can't find it. It looks like the data is backed up in my nandroid backups, but I can't seem to find out how to only restore configuration.
Thanks
Rick
Take a look at Titanium Backup.
It works really well.
You need to be rooted and superuser in order to use it.
To find out more about adding superuser to a stock ROM, check out this thread at Modaco.
Edit:
Nandroid backups are really "just" disk images afaik.
There's no way that I know of to extract information from them.

Ok, thanks. I am running the backup right now and will give it a try tonight. Worse case, I just restore the nandroid backup and try again.
I've always wondered, what stuff is safe and not safe to restore in Titanium Backup. I've done a full restore when switching between like roms, but I'm guessing that wouldn't be a good idea if you were going from cyanogen to a senseUI rom.
im using the cdma hero with fresh 2.4 rom on it i wanted to move to the new cm6.0.
and i assume the nightly rom on the cm site is for my phone...right? buttttt
i deleted the files for what i believe is my nandroid back up and apparently never put them on my computer....is there a way to get around this? or am i screwed?? do i have to unroot? then root, flash?
is there a 1 click root?
AND idk how to get out of root..so a link to a guide or maybe a quick way to do it would be nice...thank you for all the help. if you need more info in order to assist ill be glad to tell you.
I'm confused. Did you already flash CM6 or do you want to? If you haven't why don't you just do another nandroid backup. If you already flashed CM 6 and are trying to get back to Fresh, then you are SOL.
Yes, there is a 1-click root, but I forgot where I saw it at.
Thread moved in Hero CDMA Q&A.
Well I'm on fresh right now. I want to move to cm 6. Do I always have to do a nandroid restore when flashing a new Rom? I assumed you did.
But I cannot do a nandroid restore bc it tell me "cannot open directory no files found"

No these are the steps to move to cm6
1. Nandroid backup (when people say nandroid first they mean a backup).
1.5 update your prl, radio, profile if they are out of date (optional)
2. wipe dalvik and factory wipe phone.
3. flash new rom.
4. enjoy.
Here are the CM6 nightlies for the CDMA Hero. If you perform a nandroid backup you are copying your system in the exact state that it is so that if something happens you can revert back to it. When you perform a nandroid restore you are reverting back to the state at which you ran the nandroid backup. Most people recommend doing a nandroid backup before flashing a new rom. You do not do a nandroid restore when flashing a new rom. Just make sure you do a full wipe and wipe dalvik before flashing a new rom.
Ooh okay wow that's gonna help! can i update the prl and all that by just going system updates? and updating there?

Yes but only in Sense Roms CM6 and AOSP roms dont have this functionality (keep your last fresh nandroid for this purpose). Before you move to CM6 update all of that and then flash CM6. Then anytime you need to update any of that stuff in the future (prl, pri, profile) you can do a nadroid and then go back to your Fresh backup and restore then update it and then restore back to cm6.
okay! thank you very much!
and the nightlies? i dont mind using experimental roms as long as i can use like rom manager to just update it i dont wanna flash a new rom every day..
Hi all, I'm going to not try and sound too noobish, but after reading for hours I still have a couple questions. I have a Moto Droid with 2.2 Froyo that I just rooted. I use Rom Manager last night to put on Cyanogen but when it booted I had lost all apps, contacts, market so I reverted back to stock. I just got titanium backup pro which I read should load all my apps/contacts etc once I load Cyanogen? I just want to make sure I'm running the programs in the correct order.
One other issue I have is that I am currently using Setcpu to overclock to the max it's allowing which is 800 megahertz. Do I need to uninstall this before I load Cyanogen? Because I know that it is going to max me out at 600 unless I load another Kernal to go higher which I would like to do, which is another thing I was looking for instructions to do but having difficulty at least for my model.
I've found some P3 kernals, I'm not sure if theyre compatible with Cyanogen or how I would know which one to get though.
Any help is appreciated, I'm new to the rom stuff but learn fast.
oh man, I was hoping someone would know
anyone? please?
Allright well I've figured out which P3 kernel I am going to use. My latest issue is when I install Cyanogen, all my apps except for Rom Manager and Terminal Emulator are gone. Now I backed up everything with Titanium, but that is gone as well. It seems like a catch 22 to try and restore your apps and the restoring app itself is gone. Any ideas?
Go download titanium from the marketplace and reinstall. Your apps will then be able to be restored. I run cm 6.1 RC4 and use the P3droid 250/1100 MHz kernel. You'll also want to install setCPU from the marketplace to set the cpu speed profiles. Good luck! You'll really dig it once you have everything dialed in.

Hey Maxnicks, maybe you know the answer to this one as well:
I've only been using CM since 6.0 and I want to finally update it to 6.1 but just a few questions. As far as updating goes, do you have to wipe your data in Rom Manager like you would do going from stock to CM? 2nd, when you update, do you lose all your apps like you do going from stock to a new rom? I used titanium backup before to restore after 6.0, but this time I'm going to update the rom through Rom Manager so it's a little different. Last,I have the P3 Kernal overclocked, will this stay at my current settings or do I need to reinstall it after 6.1 is on there. Sorry for the questions but I tried googling and not much exists comparing CM update vs installing it over stock.
First make a back up of current rom in rom manager in case want/have to flash back. When updating same rom, might be able to get away without wiping, try without if any trouble with 6.1 flash back to previous then try a wipe. On kernel you will have to go into recovery to flash back to the p3 as all roms come with one, usually top out at 600/800 or so. Once flash new rom with gapps all apps should download thru market. I currently am running 6.1 with p3 125-1100 kernel with no problems other than usual launcher re-draw. Good luck
