Nandroid Backup and New Rom/New Version

Quick question, I hope I didn't miss this being answered somewhere else already. I like flashing different roms, and when I find one I like staying up to date with the latest version. However I'm sort of new at this and for a while I was just flashing Cyanogen's Roms, never needed a wipe.
My question is if I do the nandroid Backup + ext install a new rom, then restore that backup, is it taking me back to the previous rom that it was backed up on as well? If this is the case is there a way to pull the certain info and just move it into the new Rom?
The reason I ask is as much as I like doing this, it's somewhat time consuming setting up my shortcuts the way they were before, resetting my Locale (Program) situations, my scoreboard favs so on etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

try "mybackup pro" from the market...
that will restore custom settings and apps to your new ROM
it may not do everything but its can get ya pretty close

Thanks I'll give that a shot tonight, anything I don't have to redo is an advantage.

how do I start really clean?

All,
I tried installing the new froyo, and wanted to start completely over. no settings, no apps, nothing. and rethink from the ground up what and why I want it....
The problem is I have used the google backup feature, and if I reinstall a rom, it will download everthing from my google backup account.
the question thus is, how do I delete all the info from the backup account, and ensure that the nexus does not get installed with anything after flashing the rom?

Before installing, go to privacy settings and uncheck backup.
When you uncheck this, it should delete backups as well as disable them (that's what the popup says, anyway).
I've never tried this myself though.

I cant get this to work. I did uncheck and it said it will erase but everytime I flash a Froyo custom rom, it downloads all my setting and backup again. Flash a non froyo rom works.
Anyone can help?

[Q] ROM Manager And Titanium Backup

Im getting confused so i just want to clarify these apps, If i flash my captivate using ODIN doesnt all the files get deleted? so I don't get it how can you use these apps to recover any of files if its deleted during the procedure.

Titanium backup is for apps and settings. ROM Manager backs up your ROM and your current setup, it is also used to flash ROMS and other mods and CloclworkMod Recovery is a part of the app. Get the paid version of both apps, not expensive and you will be using them often.

so if i buy these 2 and flash my phone using odin they will stay on my phone?

No. No apps stay on your phone after flashing. When you use these two apps, they store files on your internal SD card. This does not get touched when you flash a new rom. Therefore after you flash a new rom, just go to the market, redownload the apps, and restore what you've backed up.

I got a new question guys I backup my stock ROM the one that comes on factory but rooted and im currently running cog 2.2 beta 9.1.2. My question is if i restore backup will it restore to my old 2.1 stock with root?
And for my next question is there a way to go back to stock ROM jf6 using ROM manager? Thanks everyone in advance

I have Rom manager and did a Rom backup.
How do I restore my phone?
I did something and my phone will not come on.
It will get the AT&T world phone screen, the 3G splash and even play the sounds
and the Galaxy S screen than goes black.
Doing the volume up/down and power take me to recovery screen,
did reinstall package chose update.zip but no luck.

Working again, phewww almost threw it in the trash.

Does anyone have any info regarding the froyo update for Bell Canada users ?

Titanium Backup is one of the best IMO. But you'll need root acces to run it. If you want to know why! Because Titanium also back up your paid apps and system apps. Be carefull about system apps as you really don't want to restore them on a different firmware than the one they've been back up from. So make sure you only restore apps you really installed yourself. When you will be ready to restore your apps on froyo just go trough the list and make sure you uncheck any apps you don't know about cause it could cause you problem to restore gtalk from eclair on froyo (exemple). Once you start the restore process on Titanium Backup you won't be prompted for your approval for every application by android as you would be if using another program to restore them. TB will install all of them on his own and even restore their market link. Once complete just restart the phone and open the market to see all you installed apps again and be informed about available update.
This is really the best available program to back up and restore apps but you need a rooted phone. Don't worry about warranty you can always unroot a phone after your procedure.
Regarding the availability of froyo update just do a little research and you'll find an approximate date cause it's not there (officially) for now but should be soon.

Thanks alot buddy. I just downloaded the Z4 Root app. Does this work with i9000m ? can anyone confirm ?
If so I'm gonna root my phone this aft. and back up my stuff!
When updating, i hear the best thing to do is a factory reset after update.
Once I boot back into the phone with Froyo, do I install Titanium Back up ? then open the app and hit "restore" ? I'm assuming it would look on my SD card for my "old" back up of apps ? I can only assume it doesn't back up stuff to a cloud/server.
Also, is this internal SD it backs up to or external SD

Yeah a good number of us I9000M users have updated to an unofficial bell ROM leaked a week or so back.
If you want the official rom, the last I heard was mid December.
If you do the unofficial route do some reading before hand before you decide. Many I9000M users have had corrupt internal SD cards, which result in a trip to a bell store for service.

[Q|Help] Finally Rooted. [Fascinate|CM7|Minimal Magic]

Yes. I finally rooted my phone.
After 6 months of use.
Anyway, I used the "Super-One-Click" method to root. Got SuperUser permission and all that. Which, apparently, signifies that I have root access now. amirite?

Now. I downloaded a rom/theme I want applied to my phone. Called "Minimal Magic."
It's like sleek and simplistic. Black and white. Which is what I want for the Launcher that I'm using. (Launcher7)
So after a little research on my own.
I know that I need:
-a version of CyanogenMod.
-to back up current ROM stuff.
-reboot in recovery? to flash the rom.
Rooting wasn't hard and I didn't feel like I would brick it or lose any data/files.
But seeing the process of flashing a rom AFTER rooting. Idk. It's making me a little iffy.
From my understanding. It's going to "wipe" the entire rom that I'm currently running on my Fascinate. [2.1-update]
And flash this CyanogenMod rom? (Was thinking about getting CM6)
So when it flashes and assuming everything goes well, it's gonna be like a factory reset, but with a different rom, which I can apply the .apk I downloaded earlier of Minimal Magic for CM. But my launcher or settings won't be loaded, so I'd have to go back in and re-add everything? Update all the settings again and get everything back to normal, just with a different theme.
Maybe someone can walk me through this?

You need a rom that has the theme chooser (cm7) which minimal magic os compatible with. I'm running the theme right now. Yes you have to wipe, factory reset & all & yes you need a recovery to do this. When I first rooted I used the free app from the market called rom manager & I flashed the recovery that rom manager has which is clockword. I used this to backup my current stock rooted rom then I flashed the first new rom I used then after wiping. True enough you're responsible for what happens to your phone but I can say as long as you don't do anything really weird or stupid you should be fine...now I still use that recovery & I'm running aospcmod on my hero cdma sooooo roms, the process & blah blah could be different for your phone ....I hope this helps some

So, contacts, sms, photo ID's. Stuff like that will be gone?
I wish I didn't have to re-apply all my settings.
Also, I saw a video of a guy flashing a new rom. All of his apps were gone, since..obviously it was like a factory reset. That means I'ma have to install allll the apps I downloaded before, again? D:

Yes, but you can use apps like Titanium Backup (its not free, but the best there is), to backup all your apps and restore them later.
It also backs up sms,etc. but it is not guaranteed that it can be restored on a totally different rom.
btw: Use edit for a more descriptive title please something with your device and maybe CM7 and minimal magic.
