Hi, I have done a lot of searching on this topic, but haven't been able to find anything definitive on the best way to install blackberry connect. I am about to pick up a Siemens SX66 (Cingular version, but will be using on Tmobile) and want to make sure that I will be able to get the blackberry functionality to work.
I have a few questions/comments/observations that I would love to get everyones feedback on. If there something out there that explains how to get it working, I am sorry and please feel free to point me in the right direction.
1. My understanding is that the blackberry connect software is in the extended rom. So far I have been able to find the following cab files which I believe have the blackberry software: htc_pocketpc_tmo_germany_2.0.0.25-18.cab, HTC_PocketPC_TMO_Austria_Germany_Load_Working.cab and htc_pocketpc_tmo_england_2.0.0.25-18.cab. Not sure what else is in here, but it looks like the blackberry client is there as well.
2. If I use one of those roms, what language will the software be? Will have to use the tmobile UK version for english?
3. I have been reading about people have problems with the phone rom. These are post from a while back, it seems that the UK blackberry client need version 1.0 and the german version need 1.06? Is this correct or can I use the lasted phone rom?
4. Is there any limitations on the System Rom or Extended Rom? Do I need a specific version? I want to make sure I have english on the device though.
5. Let's say I do get all the right software. Is there a problem in the US where Blackberry won't register Blackberry Connect PINs? I was reading in another forum that someone was having a problem with this on their SX66 and also I am upgrading from a Sony Ericsson P910a where I couldn't get my PIN added to Blackberry servers.
The main reason I want the device is to replace my blackberry and this is extremely important. Other functionality is awesome, but secondary as I need to make sure I have access to my corporate email.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!
There are 2 threads in the blue angel section that have Blackberry connect ih the title. Might be of help.
Thanks saw those posts after, I figured the info would be in this section. I posted some questions there as well, but any help would be appreciated. Not sure if this is going to work....oh well..
To the best of my knowledge...
NOBODY has been able to make the BB Connect software work on SX66 on Cingular.
I've all but given up. Maybe WM2005 will be different...
Crap, though I take it the problem is Cingular not the phone right? Do you know if anyone has been able to get it to work on T-Mobile? What is the problem you are having, is it the PIN / IMEI registration issue?
that's certainly a part of it...
pin/imei, software (nothing supported). The blackberry connect desktop software for XDA2 is a couple years old and does not let you change the PIN.
No way to configure, so you're hosed. The O2 software on the pocket pc is also locked to an O2 blackberry APN. No way to change that either.
It's possible that somebody somewhere has taken the T-Mobile German MDAIII software -- and somehow obtained the T-Mobile desktop software -- and translated both --
but I doubt it! Definitely not to be found anywhere on this site...
Of course, I'D LOVE TO BE PROVEN WRONG, as this has been the biggest issue for me since I got this bloody device.
Bottom line: either use the crap XpressMail redirector product that Cingular offers, or use IMAP/POP on a "pull" basis. Neither way works well. We're screwed until Cingular steps up to the plate or until some brave soul on this board saves us all!

Umm i hate to say this but also that PIN number is alos tied to a carrier, and RIM will NOT release that PIN number to be used on another carrier's network, i know, i am a data support rep with Cingular. if you want something just like the Blackberry then go pay and get the GoodLink solution, otherwise i wouldnt complain about something free that cingular offers, I use it and i agree it isnt the best but works pretty damn well considering it FREE!!! for the PErsonal Edition. Besides, if you wanted to use the BWC (BlackBerry Web client) it isnt exactly Push either, the only forms available are the Redirector and the BES, but considering Congular is offering a solution for FREE i woulnt complain if i were you. If you wanna get mad at not having that solution get mad at RIM not Cingular...... :!:
Re: that's certainly a part of it...
Well I have the desktop software in english and just installed the german software on my sx66. I think I got it to connect but its hard to tell. Iwonder if there is any other software out there....

Damm, I actually just found the software for 2.0 software for Tmobile UK. Now it only gets an IP address for two seconds then looses it. I think its the same problem I had with my p910a I can't get the server to recognize it.
Please prove me wrong!
Figure out how to make this work, and you'll be the hero of every Cingular / SX66 user on this board!
I am getting much closer now, I hacked (hex edit) one of the dll files to point to an IP address of 206.51.26.192 instead of 206.51.26.189. I know the .192 is the right address from my old blackberry. Now I actually stay live on the APN with an IP address and everything, where before I would get one for a second and get kicked out. I think it's a matter of registering it now. If anyone wants to try this dll, replace the one in the windows directory. Also I will upload the version of blackberry connect I am using... Please try as well...
Here is the dll I mentioned...replace this with the one in windows directory
Seem s like you are getting somewere on this issue.
Feel like writing a How to so that we can post it on wiki?
If you need help PM me I can also move what ever files that you like on the FTP site.
Thanks, just haven't gotten it to work totally yet, but that may just need a call to Tmobile to ask them to set it up. I have made progress in the fact that my blackberry.net apn now stays connected, where before it would disconnect after a minute or two. I think I am half way there. Need some more people to play around who have tried before to see if they get anywhere...
Can you also post the desktop software version you're using?
There hasn't been a recent posting of the BB Config software in quite some time...
Thanks!
It's too large, check the ftp server. look for somethign called bb_desktop_sw_mda3_20.exe It's up there somewhere.... poke around uploads as well...
Oh wait... I got it from tmobile directly, hehehe...

So you're using the German version?
Make it work, and I won't care what language it's in!
I agree, first I tried the german one, before I found the Tmobile Uk one. Did you try downloading everything and installing?
yup...
still can't make it work on my end... although I haven't changed anything in Hex...
Try the dll I fixed up also, let me know if it makes any difference....
Hi,
Please can someone talk me through trying to get BB Connect 4 working with the new HTC S730 (Wings)?
I'm trying to move across from a BlackBerry Pearl, so I know my subscription with my operator (Telenor Sweden) is working just fine.
I've tried using BBC 4.0.0.76 and 4.0.0.84 for WM6 Standard.
I enter BBC app on the phone and click Menu > Register Now. Back on the home page the BB status changes from Not Connected > Network Available > Data Tunnel Available > Not Connected. I have no PIN (Pending) and no IP.
I also tried BBC 2.1.2.39 but this just stays at Not Connected. Any idea why this is not working, since BBC 2 is not supposed to be so fussy about checking if the device is supported?
When I try to connect with the BBC Desktop software, it says PIN is "Unknown Type"
So....
I'm guessing the S730 isn't certified by RIM yet and I need to trick BBC 4 into thinking it's running on a supported device.
Please can someone help with the correct steps? Here are some of my questions:
1. I have the S730 Nordic version so I guess the first thing I need to do is dump the ROM from my own device. Am I better off using the grab_it ROM dumper from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238945 or using this method http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...x_HowToDumpRom ? I'm struggling so far with the pdocread method as I my device seems to be application locked. I'll post more about this in the S730 ROM thread.
2. Assuming I get the ROM dump, I need to use a Hex Editor to change the GetDeviceInfo from HTC-Wings ( I guess) to a supported device. Can anyone tell me the best device to change this to e.g. HTC-Vox? I've read reports of BBC 4.0 working on the S710 Vox but also people have asked for help hacking it. Which device string should I use?
3. I'm a complete noob when it comes to repacking ROMs and flashing WM devices. Can anyone point me to step-by-step guide to this?
I've tried to read around this subject but I've quickly exceeded my technical comfort zone to put it mildly, so any help with this would be really appreciated!
You carrier needs to support the Blackberry Gateway forwarding. If it does not, from your device, then Blackberry Connect will not work. They literally need to sort of "open ports" on their system.
I tried a Blackberry Connect activation on a Samsung BlackJack II, on AT&T here in the states, with no luck. Same symptoms as you describe.
Read all of the comments here to see what other people have done.
Oh well... get your peoples to enable ActiveSync on your server. Or at least to forward your Email to an outside address.
Good luck,
Matt
I'm not ready to give up on the S730 and BB Connect just yet.
My operator supports BB Connect on Sony Ericsson and Nokia smartphones but say there is no reason why HTC models shouldn't work. I have a colleague with a HTC Tytn II, also with Telenor connecting perfectly with my company BES, so there is some hope.
The hack described in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294218 basically tricks BBC into thinking it's running on a device which is supported by RIM and your operator. That's what I'm trying to do. That's where I was going with my questions.
But I don't know a) how to dump my ROM b) what devicetype value to set and c) how to repack the ROM and reflash the device.
Has anyone else tried the same thing and can help a noob like me?

Not an option for me, unfortunately. My company only support BES and so either I get BBC working or the S730 goes up on ebay. I'm back to using my Pearl until I get this working.
Is there anyone else out there trying to get BlackBerry Connect working on the S730?
also trying for BB connect
I just tried to install three different version yesterday with no success.
4.0.0.76 (wm5 version)
4.0.0.84 (wm6)
4.0.0.91 (wm6)
http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=276
They all installed properly but did not generate a PIN number, it was stuck at "PIN pending".
It went thru the same sequence "Network Available" --> "Data Tunnel Available" --> "Not Connected"
have not tried version 2.1 yet will do that shortly
Tried 2.1
update:
Tried 2.1 on the s730, it does not function.
If anyone has anymore ideas please post, and i will try it .
I know this is a separate platform, but perhaps bbconnect for the HTC tilt might work. AT&T have it available here http://www.america.htc.com/mobile/connect/8925/
Has anyone tried emoze as a push solution?
Has anyone found a working BB Client for BB Internet Service for The S730?
I see over the years ... nobody read carefull Threads!
Black Berry is a complicate and secure Application!
How they generate a Pin?
The Device Name, Device OS Version and Build Nr. are for the generation importent. It means ... if your modded os have a wrong OS Version and Build Nr. you doesnt get a Pin and you see every time "Pin pending"
How i can fix this?
Try to use a Original HTC Rom. If you get Pin Pending again ... try to reg edit your Build Nr. If its work, you have the right version Nr.s you need and Build Nr.! Then you can ask you favorit Rom Builder for changing does numbers.
Use Black Berry Connect Clients over 4.0.0.90
If you know the right ids ... publish it!
But where can I get the right rom for my HTC S730 and where can I get a BB client over 4.0.0.90
Original Rom ... www.htc.com -> eMember
Black Berry Client ... netrunnerat.4shared.com -> tools

That's a cool site. Thanks.
Also, did you test this on the S730 with your theory?
It dosn't work. No PIN.
New Ideas ?
your carrier needs to allow your phone to access the Blackberry servers. It's a provisioning thing. Call them and try to get it added... try to convince them just to add it and see what happens, even if you don't have a Blackberry. They might have a special thing... like AT&T's Tilt has the ability to use blackberry connect, so AT&T probably has some special feature for provisioning that enables a non-blackberry phone to be provisioned for blackberry service.
Without this connection allowed by your carrier connecting you to RIM's servers... Blackberry Connect will not work.
Prove me wrong. (seriously, because I want to get this working for myself )
I have the blackberry connect service activated for my s730 but can not get a pin number. I will try different versions, if anyone has anymore ideas please post
Thanks
Hi guys, I'm new here and see that there is a active community surrounding this device. I know I havent contributed anything to the community yet (singed up about 20mins ago) but I was hoping you could answer the following question;
Can the EMONSTER (S11HT - http://emobile.jp/products/ht/s11ht/index.html) be flashed to run in English?
And
If it can, how easy would it be to get it running on EMobile again? If I remember correctly - all the settings are cleared when flashing?
And
Will all the applications still work?
I have seen it mentioned in a few different posts on the site, but never managed to find one that confirmed that it worked. I am planning on purchasing the phone sometime soon, and I know Japanese cell companies like to prevent the use of their phones for anything other than what they allow (For example, I think the S11HT in Japan only supports GPS with the device - no GPS via bluetooth)
A simple yes would be great - Is there anyone in Japan who has flashed this device and had no problems?
My 'Plan'
Buy the Device, Backup the Rom, Flash with a Cooked Rom (Many around - how can I tell which is 'best'?) and use the phone in English.
Thanks!
Also - I will be happy to provide the Japanese rom if I end up getting the phone.
Yes it is possible: the Wiki has a bunch of stuff regarding Rom flashing and cooking... If you backup the original Japanese Rom correctly you should be able to restore it with no problems. More info here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
Most of the Roms on the site are on English. Dutty's is the most popular around, yet I have not tried it myself.
Have fun, good luck.
Thanks for the quick reply. Im wanting to use an English rom, but how will things like the provider settings carry over? I know that EMobile uses the Docomo network, but I am not sure what settings the phone will need.
For example, (I am on softbank at the moment) I get the new phone, and flash it with an English rom. I then start the phone - will it be able to just 'run' on the network properly because of the sim card? Or are there network settings that need to input to access?
Sorry to bother you all with these questions, but I couldnt find much on the use of this phone in Japan. It would really suck if I bought this phone and then was limited to using it only with the Japanese firmware - I think alot has been disabled.
Thanks again!
Also - I have been doing a bit of research and see that I need a compatible radio rom. I can't find a Japanese one - Is WWE world wide? What does it stand for?
Thanks!
wwe=worldwide english
radio has no language dependency, you just need a radio that is compatible with you ROM, see this thread for more info.
Radio choices also depend on your location, you just have to try and see which works best with you, or you can search and see what other ppl in your area are using, or maybe some kind soul might post suggestions here in this thread.
WWE=world wide english
edit:woops...one second too late
I can't understand why so simple things cannot be resolved in the life.
I can understand that an operator can decide to don't give some feature, but for what I understood the things should be like this:
1. all UK operators like 3, vodafone, t-mobile offers access to internet for pay and go customers. O2 says not, or that a lot of mobiles do not support it.
Now. I was with polaris/touch cruise able to surf with explorer and use google maps, just problems to update the weather in the main screen. And was ok for me.
Now, I switch to Diamond, the result? i cannot surf anymore and use google maps! Now the answer should be to swith to 3, but I needed O2 and is problematic to switch. Of course I will do if I won't find a solution.
So my question is, have you found a solution to surf and use google maps with O2 payandgo even on the Diamond?
if not, I'm stupid or how is possible that in 2008 a device should be not able to connect to service of O2, I mean, how is possible that O2 says that is the device not supported or that don't support them etc etc, I mean, who is wrong here, is O2 that is doing the possible to don't give this service to us or what? if is so, nobody did something to sign a petition and ask them to do what their competitors do, even more expensively, but with every UK operator is possible to surf, why just with O2 not!!!! Payandgo.
Let me know please.
if I need to flash the ROM, change, upgrade, or whatever you want to let it work let me know.
Thank you in advance,
your disperately,
payandgo... go.. go..
I would check your setting are the same as when you had the polaris/touch cruise, other than that you really need to change operator
Usually for paygo they route the internet using a different APN. This is usually because they block certain ports.
The operators usually say 'this device isnt suported' because their automatic system isnt able to SMS the provisioning to your phone. That doesnt mean you can't edit it manually.
Just copy the connection settings from another phone where it works onto your diamond.
It sounds like the auto setup in the diamond is using some different APN or a proxy, and your old device didnt.
of course I do manual settings... cannot work with the automatic that are into the htc.
I'm waiting some angel here of the forum that can help, for sure a lot of londiners are facing same problem with O2 and have some solution.
the exact same settings work fine on which other phone?
Or are you saying it just doesnt work any more no matter what phone you use?
Htc Touch Pro was working but I lost the settings and with the one found in forums doesnt work the Diamond
so I need settings from somebody that setted already the Diamond that is new, and for sure are the same but I do not have it and I need to find so I can set it manually.
Have you tried these?
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
Both contract and paygo. Also it really would help if you gave some more information like what settings you using already.
This is my third post and i still have no idea what your exact problem is. Yeah sure you can't get GPRS working in some way, but i don't know what way, and what settings your using - and so the possible cause.
hello, I'm from Spain, I have a Kaiser that after upgrading to WM6.1 stop the GPS function properly.
Radio is 1.65.17.56 and not that I do to fix it. If it can be.
I hope someone can help me, thanks.
Try changing Radios or get the GPS test prog which helps out a lot.
I do not have much knowledge about this subject, which would have to do?
It may change the radio? where he could get another version?
Thank you
1) Check your GPS settings here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330235.
GPS Test is a little program that can help you to check your GPS; you can find it here http://chartcross.co.uk/products/WM00002_details.asp
When I upgraded and had a similar problem, I had to hard reset and upgrade again, then my GPs was OK.
Good luck.
some radios give better gps performance but could decrease battery life and/or data speeds. just remember some radios wont work certain roms causing no wifi,no gps at all,no calls or camera functionality
Contact the provider

I know who can help, that is if they choose to, it's HTC themselves (assuming you have an HTC branded TyTN II). When I complained to their tech support dept here in the UK the chap told me no-one else had complained about this issue as far as he knew other than me! Clearly if they get many disgruntled customers complaining it may help (although judging by their response to the driver petition, maybe not), at least they won't be able to treat it as a non-issue.
Yes it's a radio related problem and different radios affect GPS performance but I've not found any reports of Radios under WM 6.1 yet that equalled the GPS performance of the original WM 6.0 setup, although the eMo one does look good from what I've read, other than the built in branding - not tried it.
Let us know what HTC say (or if it's a carrier provided phone, what the carrier says). I think the hardware provider should be the one coming up with a solution and it should not be up to you to risk your warranty trying different radios to fix it for yourself.
the first thing I did when I came mandar the problem was an email to HTC to see how it solved, that was last Friday and have not yet replied. I hope that HTC find a solution because it is not a cheap machine.
Thank you for all the answers ...

Is it an HTC branded TyTN II that came in an HTC box? If so, get your identifying numbers ready that are on the box (or underneath where the battery is) and give them a call - there are cheaper rate numbers on one of the leaflets inside the box. This may (at least in my case) work out cheaper than calling the number on their website for your country. Ask them to acknowledge your email/web form submission and if they claim to not know about this being a problem, ask them to email that statement back to you. Ask them if they liaise with other countries HTC support and share info on complaints about this from elsewhere... Let us know how that goes.
