I've been looking at the various threads on here, trying to work out whether its worth upgrading or not. So far the issues have been:
MS Reader
Slow GPS lock
Are there any other issues, whats the general feeling, is it worth it or if it a'nt broke.......
Thanks
James
guess not.....
Yes it's worth the upgrade.

sure its worth it to upgrade to 6.1...but only if your rdy to hate your phone and then eventually hate yourself and then inevitabley hate life...which will then end with a slow and quiet pull of a trigger, which then in turn explodes your brains all over your desktop monitor and brand newly minted 6.1 kaiser.
enjoy!

Yea, just upgrade.
lol...seriously upgrading to 6.1 is like upgrading to killing yourself
wm 6.1 is the worst software upgrade i have ever come across - but i am sticking to it in the meantime due to time reasons.
threaded sms is the only thing that was nice - reminded me of my good old treo.
otherwise its a useless update and renders quite a lot of software non-functional.
The normal TCPMP version doesn't work in WM 6.1, I'm using a recompiled version (which does work), but now I'm experiencing some sort of vertical ripple lag when watching video.
Other than that, you've got threaded sms, your today screen rotates all at once (but it still takes about the same time) and perhaps some other thing, but I haven't noticed them yet...

Some issues are gone, new ones have appeared... I still think the upgrade is worth it though. But very far from nirvana
Only you can determine if the positives are worth the negatives when upgrading to WM 6.1.
As a Developers Forum our best advice to you is to investigate it for yourself after reading about the issues & solutions others have encountered during their transition. Then find a few Roms (cooked or Original) that appears to best suit your needs and give each of them a try.
In the end if you hate 6.1 you can always downgrade.
I have changed my ROM from R1A to Touch X. Everything works fine, but the quality of video has been dropped to very low level in all programs playing video... specially in youtube player... with the original ROM it used to be smooth, even the high quality videos but now, just breaking images, framing after 1-2 secs, blinking, flashing.... WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE and WHAT CAN I DO? Thanks for ideas....
The right way to solve your problem would be:
Ask the ROM cooker and other users of that ROM...
Since cookers always offer support @ their threads, there's no need to open a new thread to ask for support / help
And BTW: read and search the thread before posting
Welcome to the forum
and have fun
hey guys i have upgrade some thing to do sharpness picture on my tilt and now
i just see black screen.
after i take the picture i can see the pic but when i turn on the camera its show blank black screen
i have been searching for alot of msg on the forum and i didnt found any solution
please guys there is a solution?
I don't know about everyone else, but every time I've installed anything and gave undesired results, had bugs, etc. I just uninstall it. Try that. If it fixes the problem, then there ya go.
Radio
Every time this has happened to me or someone I know the radio you are using isn't compatible with the Rom. Flash to a differant radio and see if that fixes you problem
Are you really going to start a new thread " every " time you have a problem ? You have 25 posts and you have already started 7 new threads. I don't think I have started 7 new threads in 1600 posts.
To answer yesterday's new thread , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524573 The camera sucks, deal with it. You can do thinks to quicken the shutter delay. Search !
To answer today's new thread, try a different radio, or one of the many camera updates that you would have found in the many...many...many threads already started on this subject, that a simple search would have led you to. Otherwise, the camera sucks , deal with it.

WOW, Before I start please don't flame me for maybe some stupid questions !!!
Having used my artemis for well over 2 yrs now , i've flashed, put apps on it , re-installed various ROM's & got it working to my likening.
Now I treated myself to the Diamond which I think is currently one of the best on the market as it stands,
Well here we go, WM6.5 - Does the Diamond take the OS safely ?? Like the format, but don't want to get rid of TouchFLO 3D coz it rocks !!
Is it a different app i need for customization of themes instead of Manilla 2D ??
Can i use the same IGO8 & TOM TOM that i've got or is that for QVGA only (basically will it work on the Diamond VGA ? )
Oh ! and anymore help would be appreciated
Many Thanks, D
Hey, I also just changed from the artemis after 2 years to the diamond. I've installed tomtom 6 onto the diamond which worked perfect on the artemis. I haven't been outside yet to see if it works, I guess it will. But even with no signal, there's usually a row of grey circles in the waiting for gps signal screen on the artemis, and mine is blank on the diamond. Tomtom7 might be better, dunno yet. Igo8 was slow as **** on the artemis, too memory intensive especially with those 3D maps so I binned it. Might be better on the diamond. Diamond has some great features, but you will probably, like me, be disappointed with a few things, such as:
Volume not as loud as artemis, particularly important when driving on noisy motorways and you want to hear the sat nav voice louder. There's a tweak on this forum for volume.
On/off button on top, much nicer on artemis on right side.
Soft reset button trickier to press as it's located inside the stylus housing. On artemis, as you know, it's on the left side.
Light goes off during phone calls after 4 seconds.
Using the stylus on the diamond screen is harder work than the artemis, you have to press more. The artemis is much better for that.
Gets very warm at the bottom of the device, artemis didn't.
Less physical buttons of course than the artemis, and the settings/buttons assignment tab is practically non existent, you'll need to get a 3rd party app.
No camera button like the one on the right side of the artemis.
Battery indicator shows blocks and no % numbers, no big deal I suppose.
Touch flow 3D is nice but makes things fiddly and a bit confusing till you get used to it. Sometimes I turn it off to get the same UI as the artemis, it makes getting around the device easier and looks less cluttered.
Screen is fractionally smaller I think.
Mr Roman5, do you think the Diamond is not as good as the artemis on spec alone maybe, or is it gonna take a bit of time to get used to the software ??
Cheers, D
Before i flash, any recommendations coz every ROM I've looked at looks TOP DOLLAR !!!
The diamond is better spec for sure, faster processor, better camera (3.2mp instead of 2.0) wifi, 3G, touch screen, etc. It's just that I miss certain features of the artemis that allowed me to go between applications incredibly easily. However, I definitely recommend the diamond. I've been adding tweaks that I found on here and that has improved things a lot already. It's definitely quite a fun phone.

Oh, not annoying me at all, I've been asking loads of questions myself as the diamond is a brand new toy for me.
I'm afraid I don't have the faintest clue about your other questions, but I reckon someone here will probably say that WM6.5 will work ok so you might be in luck. As far as themes, I don't know that either, and I would love to have one particular theme myself if someone knows. The blue one that the artemis has. That's the windows default one on artemis I think, and the one I've always used on that phone. Currently I've got guava bubbles theme on the diamond and without the TF3D on, the whole screen goes a really vibrant and warm sort of flameburst orange and red colour.

Getting there slowly but surely, themes as in TF3D, i used the customization on the artemis but reading the forum there is one i might need to use for the Diamond, but surely i'll get there with some of the great members of this thread, Heh Heh
Hey, I mentioned the gps and tomtom. Well, it's way better than the artemis for a fix. I've just been outside and got a fix for both copilot and tomtom6 in a matter of seconds. That's in my car, in the phone holder, WITH the silicon case over it. Even after switching off the phone for a few minutes and rebooting, it got an instant fix. I'll test it further by leaving the phone off for an hour and see how fast it is then. But, at least it works!
EDIT: retested by switching phone back from cold 45 minutes later. Yes, instant gps fix, woohoo! Compared to 2 minutes or sometimes more on the artemis, this has to be the single best thing about the diamond. I hope it continues to find a fix quickly in different areas.
Hi folks, I got myself a Kaiser (Vodafone branded but unlocked) about 2 weeks ago, and have been busily reading these forums so as to NOT appear a total n00b
So far I have applied the WM6.1 update, and found the GPS "problem" (which isnt too bad as outside I get a GPS lock in 30 secs to 1 minute anyway) and am looking forwards to experimenting with some of the excellent ROMS out there when I get some free time.
I thought I'd like to share with you good people a nifty speaker enhancement I found.
When working (I am a Barista for a catering company who travels to shows etc) I like to have music playing, and MS- Voice Command gets me lots of "ooohs" from fellow workers when I tell my phone to play Pink Floyd - and it does!
The built-in external speaker is a LOT clearer and louder than my previous XDAIIi device, and so I turn the phone upside-down to enhance the audio level & quality, but it's still a bit 'tinny' and quiet, no real bass to it.
I work as a Barista, and of course I have an endless supply of 12 oz paper cups to play with and that got me to thinking.....
Take a 12oz paper cup, upright...
Start kaiser playing your favourite kind of music...
place Kaiser on TOP of cup, the right way up, so external speaker is facing down into cup, balance it on the top
Admire how you now have REAL bass sound and twice the volume!
the difference is like night & day
I can only assume the paper cup is acting as a kind of speaker enclosure for the external speaker, it sounds so much better it's fantastic!
No doubt others may want to experiment further (post any good results for us to share!), who knows it may be possible to accousically design a 'proper' reflector for it for really great sound?
just my $0.02
Joe Pinball
new (to me!) Kaiser owner, and LOVING how he gets an "oooh" from iphone users when he tilts & slides...
might try this sometimes.... thanks for the tip
Sounds like you might need to put one of those theft programs on your phone incase someone takes off with it.
Worked pretty good until someone bumped the table and my Tilt fell into the beer in the cup. Guess it would have been better to use an empty cup.

Shame... What a waste of beer.
Reverting is easy if you want excellent GPS back again

If only everyone else new here did the same and researched things from the forums. This is the second time I've seen the idea of using a cup to modify the sound so there must be something in it. Having upgraded to WM 6.1, I found the broken/poorly performing GPS too and had the phone reverted to WM 6.0 (once by HTC under warranty and once myself using the info here), I can tell you it's pretty straightforward to revert back again if 15 second stationary satellite locks (and quick ones when on the move) are important to you. Personally I found the general unreliability of the HTC WM 6.1 ROMs, including powersaving related issues, another reason to revert. WM 6.0 may be a little slower but it is very reliable.

EDIT: I just reverted back to 6.0 as well (with the bloatware removed) and, so far, my phone is behaving the way it SHOULD. I've lost the ability to map my PTT button to use Voice Command, so I had to map the front OK button, as the side OK button still works, and I even have Touch Flo loaded up and working fine, too. It is a bit sluggish still, but at least I got 2 of the most annoying things ironed out... I think.
I have had an updated rom ever since I got the phone. I have no complaints. I even used tom tom to take me from Texas the Colorado. (thats like you guys going from france to england or maybe spain)

Is that based on your current ROM, or the AT&T stock 6.1 ROM? I'd love to upgrade to 6.5 or at least 6.1, but my 2-PC sync and backlight problems were huge annoyances to me. I just spent over 2 hours removing all of the duplicate appointments/contacts that the sync problem created.
I used duttys 6.1 rom with tom tom and use 6.5 with google maps all the time.
