I sometimes get a triangle icon in the taskbar, next to the E / 3G icon.
Any idea what it means?
I cannot click it ... or better: nothing happens.
This is the Roaming indicator.
Mmmmh.
And why am I seeing this in Beverly Hills and the network is "AT&T"?
call up AT-T and ask lol.. But that is the roaming Icon sometimes phoines will pick the closest tower to use since it has the best signal and just maybe t-mobile owns that tower Only AT-T will know.
Not an isolated problem
I have a similar issue in Oz. I travel o/s a lot and am used to the roaming signal appearing whilst I am out of the country. However, this is happening right here at home. I have a Telstra 3G SIM card and all too frequently my Kaiser brings up this "Roam" Signal. Generally I then lose 3G as well, dropping back to HSDPA. Even more strangely, it is still showing that I am connected to Telstra. A soft reset usually brings back the 3G signal. I never had this problem with my Trinity and my work is only a few hundred metres from a Telstra tower so signal strength is not a problem. A bug I think, and damned annoying.
you are picking up T-Mobile. AT&T users can still use T-Mobile towers currently as a result of the deal they made when AT&T (Cingular) sold them the 310-170 network in CA/NV. (its now properly renamed to 310-260 by TMO)
the phone's alpha tag says AT&T regardless of what carrier's network you're on when you're roaming. unless you have the 4EON code applied to your account, in which case it would say Off Network when on non AT&T towers.
any idea how I can fix this?
I am fine with it roaming if there is indeed not 3G network but my issue is that it doesn't drop the roaming as soon as it could.

I have the same issue - sometimes I have "3G Telstra" (no roaming symbol, and will use HSDPA if needed) and other times I have "3 Telstra" and the roaming symbol displaying. One thing - as I understand it, you are not 'dropping back to HSDPA' - this is actually a service that is on top of the 3G networks, and provides greater download speeds.
I checked with my Telstra reseller who said that this would not change the call rates or data rates. Not sure what causes this though...
Have put this question on Whirlpool as well: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=846691#bottom
Telstra
I have the same issue on Telstra. Hope a new ROM fixes this.
Roaming Notice
Hmmm, I hate it when stupid people post garbage about which they know little. Problem is, this time the stupid person was me!
The 3G symbol shows the phone is within range of a UMTS signal. The H symbol means it is in range of a HSDPA signal, the high speed data version of UMTS so "H" is better than "3G". Oops, so my phone was roaming to a better signal.
This roaming issue appears to only affect a small number of people whose service providers have a crossover deal with another provider. This appears to apply to those with the AT&T/T-Mobile crossover in the US and here in Oz where the phone will pick up either the Telstra Next G network (UMTS 850Mhz, shown as 3G Telstra) or, in big cities, the Hutchinson "3" Network, (UMTS 2100Mhz with HSDPA, shown as 3 Telstra). I was uncertain about this as I never saw the roaming symbol with my Dopod 810, which always showed 3G Telstra. I think the TyTN II, like the original TyTN, has some different software seetings which means that the phone will try the "3 Telstra" network when it can, and this shows as roaming, whereas my D810 either didn't roam to 3 Telstra, or, if it did it didn't show it as roaming. In any case, it's not actually a problem, and as Telstra have indicated, it makes no difference to the data/call rates. I'm chilled on this. Now if they can fix the "hang-up" bug...
I've been wondering about the elongated triangle pointing up too. I have very poor/no reception in my office at work... though sometimes enough to get a voicemail notification (not enough to be able to call and check, usually don't have a missed-call notification).
I'd thought it might have to do with being connected to Active Sync. Sure would be smart if the phone could get notifications of even calls over an alternative data connection when the cellular couldn't connect... even if ATT charged regular minutes for it would be so much better than no signal, period.
I'm having this issue for some reason on my second Tilt that has been sent to me. The first doesn't show it at all but the second does. I don't understand what its doing.
Deleted.....
I turned on my Tilt this morning and where the 3G icon used to be it is now a H icon all the time even if I am not connected to the network or downloading data. I have tried disabling HSDPA and reenabling it, but that hasn't worked. Disabling and reenabling the icon itself also doesn't get rid of the problem. I haven't installed anything. Does anyone know how to fix this or is this some kind of newly discovered radio bug?
Running on AT&T network.
Thanks
dont complain.. ur not stuck in H u now have full blown H in the area.. my girls 85 has full H now and so does my tilt
does this mean I have HSUPA too?
What exactly do you mean by full H? My download speeds didn't change at all
I am currently faced with this same stuck H issue.
I am running the stock AT&T ROM ver ... 1.62.502.0, Radio version 1.37.14.09
Sometimes when I travel to a particular work office I use dutty's 10 button Comm Manager to turn 3G off. This particular office is built like a fortress and I barely get signal inside. If I leave 3G on my battery is dead in a matter of hours.
So I turned 3G off for the first time since upgrading to this ROM, and later when I turned it back on I find I have a constant H indicator rather than the 3G I normally see.
Yes I am in an HSDPA area, but normally I would only see the H when downloading.
Yes, I use direct push with a hosted exchange server.
I've tried disabling HSDPA in KaiserTweak, and I get back to the 3G indicator ... But as you would expect my download speeds are limited to 300 to 400 kbit/sec.
With HSDPA enabled I average twice that, with bursts over 1mbit/sec.
Can anyone speculate why I have the constant H indicator now instead of only when downloading?
Everything still works, I just wouldn't mind knowing why I am seeing this change in indicator.
I have since found out that the the contant H icon is a result of AT&T upgrading their network. Since then, my download speeds have roughly doubled. Turns out the contant H is a good thing.
I went away on a business trip for a week and now upon returning I too am seeing the constant H, whereas previously I'd see 3G which would change to H and back when using data.
But that's not the part that is worrying me.
The problem I see is that the data connection is active all the time; it never drops. So besides the large H indicating HSDPA availability, once any data connection is made the 4 bars plus plus small triangle changes to 4 bars plus small H and *never* changes back. In the past I'm pretty sure the data connection would come and go as needed.
Is this bad at all? Seems like it would suck battery power to have the data connection active all the time. It's as if the KaiserTweak "always on: AT&T MediaNet" is stuck on (but I never actually did that tweak and it is actually disabled in KaiserTweak).
What's going on?
Have you done an upload speed test?
Apparently a constant H icon can indicate HSUPA support.
Little more info ... however finding a map of what was upgraded isn't that easy.

AT&T Nears HSPA
By Brad Smith
WirelessWeek - April 02, 2008
LAS VEGAS—AT&T will have all of its 3G markets enabled with the high speed uplink capabilities by the middle of the year, according to Hank Kafka, vice president of network architecture for the operator.
AT&T had 255 major metropolitan markets with W-CDMA/HSDPA at the end of 2007 and continues to add markets. Kafka said at a GSM Association roundtable on HSPA that AT&T expects to cover 350 markets with 3G by the end of 2008, including all of the top 100 markets.
The operator started installing HSUPA last year and now is in the process of rolling it out, he said. By mid-year, he said all of its 3G markets will have HSUPA. He says typical data rates on the downlink now are between 600-to-1400 Kbps with a peak of 3.6 Mbps, while the downlink typically is 500-to-800 Kbps.
There are upgrades for HSPA which take it as high as 14.4 Mbps and Kafka says AT&T is studying those. But he declined to say when or if AT&T will raise its data rates to those levels.
Kafka also said AT&T has seen significant data usage increases for customers using 3G.

Yea, I have the constant 'H' as well, but I think it's the same as having a constant 'E', meaning that you're connected to HSPA and everything's good.
switching bands
switched bands sometimes helps changing the icons from edge to 3g,to disable HSDPA you need to disable HSDPA through kaisertweak, schaps advancedconfig or hsdpa switch whether cooked into rom or manually installed to switch back to 3g
Hi
I have a Vodafone branded Kaiser (unlocked), which I was initially using on BT Mobile and I always got a 3g or H symbol. But I've recently switched to Orange Uk and although I've been asured by Orange I have a 3G sim and I get fast data rates, I only ever see the G (GPRS) or E (Edge) symbols on my phone. Why is this so? Does anyone on Orange get the 3G symbol??
Maybe you just dont get Orange 3G signal where you are. I know unless I leave the area I live in I dont get 3G anywhere, and its not some out of the way little village either
Orange's 3g network coverage is quite good. So you should see a 3g symbol (unless you have switched your device to GSM instead of AUTO in the phone settings).
Their H coverage is getting better but is still only the major cities (and most of the M25).
Where do you live?
I'm in birmingham and only get it intermittently (H) although I'm usually always 3'd up when I remember to switch out of GSM (better for battery!).
Thanks for the replies. To clarify...
I live in Bristol (where Orange is based) and I get good 3G / H speeds (checked at http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1). I get speeds of around 1.7 to 2Mbps which is actually faster than my home hardwired broadband!!! But I never see the 3G or H symbol on the phone. I used to see these all the time on other networks (BT Mobile which subs to Vodafone 3G n/w), but never on Orange. I never changed any software on the phone when I switched and I presume because of the good speed I get that the setup is correct.
Can I just confirm that other Orange users actualy see the 3G symbol on their Kaisers?
Cheers
My Kaiser with the orange rom showed 3g (and H when active).
It still does with dutty's wm6.1 rom too.

Yep, can definitely confirm that I have seen, G, E, 3G, H on my kaiser both with the stock rom and with qmobile 1.2
The only thing I can think of is: Have you flashed a different radio but I'm clutching at straws here. not really my field.
I had the same problem with mine in France, and many of us had it too.
Moreover I have bad news for you..I think you have to send your phone to the HTC support. I've just got back my phone from it and it works again as before the problem appeared.
You should read this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335074&highlight=motherboard+3G
Have fun and good luck bye
I also have a Vodafone UK branded Kaiser (v1615) and use it with an Orange 3G SIM. Generally I do see the 3G symbol, unless I'm in a poor reception area where it drops back to G or E. I have seen H but only I think within the M25. I'm based near Glasgow.
Does your phone say orange3G as the network if it says only orange it means that you are using a normal SIM...ask them for a new one
Mine just says Orange but I get 3G though? Not sure if it's different in the UK but I definitely have a high speed SIM.
Mine just says Orange - but I do have 3g/H and it says so.
If you run a speedtest and get over 130, then you are on 3G and over 500k then you are on H.
There are some rom tweaks that change the icons you see.
It seems that there are two ways of doing HSDPA, for example if I put a UK vodafone sim card in my diamond I get a permenant H and the signal strength bar. However with my UK Orange sim it displays 3G untill you try and access data at which point it will switch over to H and display the relevant icon and then revert to 3G when finished.
I prefer the voda way of doing things, although my contract is with orange. Is there any way of getting O to display an H wherever HSDPA is available instead of having to connect to somthing for it to show up?
Thanks
I'm afraid not. It seems to be a setting of the network itself.
Friend of mine has the same, he's got an H wherever he goes almost...while I just get H when I transfer data. Altough I don't care, as long as I get it when I need it
On Orange I use to only get the H icon with an active data connection but today I'm getting the H even when not connected, any else on Orange UK notice this?
im on orange and i hardly ever get a H even on data download.
Hi,
How can I check if my diamond is connected to 3G? My O2 Ignito always displays the 'G' icon in the top corner. I am yet to see it display '3G', but I know this icon exists.
When I click it the 'connectivity' pop-up comes up and says:
mobile web (GPRS, 3G)
I am in a 3G area, I have checked on here:
http://www.webmap.o2.co.uk/map.asp
But to me it doesn't seem like 3G speeds.
Thanks
When you are connected to 3G doesn't the thing next to the signal icon change to say 3g?
I'm in the same boat with my O2 handset, I'm in an area that's allegedly covered by O2's 3G coverage but the only thing I've ever seen is G or E (for EDGE); I've never seen the 3G icon.
I realised yesterday though that my SIM card might not be 3G compliant as it's the same SIM card I'm still using from my very first O2 contract phone from back in 2005 so I'm going to ask in an O2 shop this weekend whether that could be the problem.
I have had much discussion with O2 concerning 3G reception. I live in a 3G area and yet do not receive it on my Ignito. If i take my sim out and put it in a Nokia I get 3G. O2 replaced the handset - same issue. It seems HTC devices do not have a good 3G reciever in them. It diplays H when you have 3G - O2 quote "H is superior to 3G and provides the fastest data transfer". I've been asked by O2 to monitor my 3G reception and give feedback to them, so that they can give feedback to HTC! If I continue to not get 3G coverage they have offered to look at another handset for me!
The phone displays H when it has a 3G signal. H is the fastest data service in the UK and is faster than 3G - quoting O2 here.
I have also had problems with receiving 3G. If i put my sim in a Nokia handset it works fine, but not in my Ignito. They changed the handset - second one the same. It appears the receiver in the Diamond is not very good at receiving 3G. O2 have asked me to monitor how I get on and give them feedback, so they can get back to HTC!
I have looked into this with o2 Corporate as I have a works Ignito.
It appears that it was worth a phone call as the guy I spoke to seem to know his stuff and apparently sorted me out.
I have never had the 3G logo on my Ignito, so out of interest I rang o2 to question my speeds.
1. They told me my SIM is so old it is 2G, so they have sent me a new 3G card.
2. They state that my account has been set up wrong in that I have never been upgraded to the faster speeds, the Tech guy told me that when my phone is showing ‘H’ after a speed test it is actually running 3G!
3. They have now moved me from something called ‘virgin 5’ to ‘virgin 6’, as I have never been upgraded, which will mean that when available I will get 1.2 MB/s!
4. Apparently the Ingnito software has not got the 3G logo in it so will not show 3G only H. (or E for Edge or G for GPRS, if not on the higher speeds)
5. Because of the wrong SIM and not upgrading me automatically, Cheeky bastards!
Thanks for your help, I would of never known it would of been a SIM problem.
Do you now receive a constant 3G connection?
Do O2 correct this free of charge?
I would also be interested in other O2 Ignito customers find there 3G reception.
Hoew to get better signal
Hi Gets
If you need to get better 3g signal, why don't you just change the radio.
I had same kind of issue with the original radio. I updated 1.05.25.BS14 and I have brillint 3g signal all the time.
I went into the O2 store today, they gave me a new SIM straight away, no questions.
Now it runs great!
O2's 3G reception is diabolical at the best of times....from past experiences on their network...one of the major reasons why i went back to Tmobile...their 3g network is very good and fast. Never fail to get the H icon 95% of the time when using my phone.
