Complete ROM & Phone Backup? (Ghost Image?) - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Is this possible to do with my tilt? I currently have Slueth WM6.1 customized how I like it and everything functional... however Id like to try some other ROMs to see if I like them.
But I do not want to reload a new ROM, decide I dont like it, and have to spend hours reloading my previous one and installing all the fixes and programs and settings that I like.... is there a way to make a ROM backup, like a "ghost" image of my phone, like you can with a computer hard drive?
Thanks in advance...

There is a software called MyMobiler that will give you a remote desktop to> the phone, so you can see in a window on the desktop what your phone screen is.

Very nice app. Used it all the time when my Kaiser was my main phone.

SPB Clone is another product that they make.
It is pretty awesome.
You can create an image to a flash card and restore the entire image back to the phone.

[RESOLVED] Backing up a broken tilt?

So, the screen on my Tilt has died. Luckily I use Pimbackup pretty regularly, so most of my stuff is saved, but I would like to pull my recent text messages off the device. I know I've received a dozen or so texts since the screen broke
Is there any PC based software that will do that? I've searched, but can't seem to find anything that doesn't require installing/using a device based program.
Cheers!
BUMP!
Well, all my searching has come up with nil -- just a quick bump to see if anyone has any ideas before I have to send this unit back tomorrow, when my new one arrives...
Search harder, My Mobiler is probably what you want.
Pocket controller professional will do it. Shows a virtual pda screen on your PC. But with the new Sprite Backup 6.1, you can also initiate backups & restores directly from your PC with the PC Backup manager.
Sprite Back up is now on version 6.2 and will do exactly what you want via desktop back-up.
You guys rock.
My Mobiler worked like a charm to get at my stuff -- curiosity was seriously killing me.
Sprite Backup looks as if it'll be my new backup solutions!
Thanks so much for your help!

How much time to restore after ROM flash?

For me, I wrote down about 15 apps and total 80 settings throughout the phone.. which takes about 2-3hrs.
What about your guys? Would be grateful if you have tips to share too.
15-20 mins..... about 10 apps and 25 settings.
Done it so many times, that I've build a routine lol.
Yip it drives my SWAMBO* Nuts
I flash a new rom and then sit in front of the telly and load all my apps.
I have a Installs folder on my Internal Storage with all my apps and I just got through it one by one. I have Cabs that setup owner info and various reg entries for weather favorites etc.
I have done it so much it is almost automated while I watch TV

Does Sprite backup not sort all this stuff out?
I thought that's why HTC is giving it away and was asking users to load it up before ROM flashing....as they've put out a few (ROMs that is)

warning!
the backup contains registry information from the old ROM that is not going to fit the new registry you'll get after flashing a new ROM.
you can restore PIM and e-mails but i doubted that it is wise to do a whole system restore 'cose after flashing u'll have a new system.
i think you'll better reinstall yr programs one by one.
Cheers, glad you said that!!!!
One thing if I have Tomtom7 and I have PAID for maps will a new ROM confuse anything?
"I have a Installs folder on my Internal Storage with all my apps and I just got through it one by one".. hey.. now that's a good tip right there
Sprite does have an option specifcally to restore after a ROM update... but I don't have confidence it can figure out precisely what to restore. Anyone tried it?

Thinking of doing hard reset - backing up settings

Was firstly thinking of doing the 6.1 upgrade to my HTC branded TyTN 2 on T-Mobile. But after noticing they are still supplying 6 I am now just going to do a hard reset, I've had the device for about 15 months now.
Is it easy to backup the Favorites on TomTom6? I will export my settings from FoneAlarm but is there anything else I should do? I will re apply the patches and reload the latest Skype.
The reason for the hard reset is that I often get the "wait" symbol appear and have to reboot cos it slows right down. Also just to clear down any junk.
Cheers,
James
Use any of the reputed backup programs for WM like sprite, spb or PIM backup. It should back up all your data for restore at a later point or on another rom. Download the one that works for you.

If you're only going to back up contacts , sms, emails , calender, then PimBackup is great and easy to use , as is Sprite Back up.
As long as you are cleaning up you're phone for better performance, look at all the custom 6.1 roms available . Better performance, 6.1 and the support of the chefs. Everything T- Mobile couldn't give you.

Can't be easier: copy the MapSettings.cfg from your maps folder. This file stores all your favorites, home address, and recent destinations. I have version 7, but I think it is the same in 6. If not, it is going to be in TomTom's (the program) folder.

Blackpearl v 1.7 versus Current

I was just wonder how much difference there is. I am happy with 1.7 but if the current does everything the same and better i will flash it. Just didnt want to have to go through reloading all the programs and settings if its not a big improvement. Thanks

Download a backup program (like Sprite Backup - it has a trial period of 10 days, if I'm not mistaken), do a full backup, flash the new ROM and decide whether you like it. If you don't, flash the old one, do a full restore and apart from adjusting time you won't even notice you had a different ROM.
I personally don't use Black Pearl, but the new Manila and (especially) the new dialer fully justify the hassle of reinstalling apps.
But that's my personal subjective opinion of course. Only you can decide which ROM suits you best.

Oh ok thanks for the info. Is ppcpimbackup similar to sprite? i noticed it on my program file. I didnt download it so i figure its part of the blackpearl. I will read up on backing up info
I think pimbackup backs up pim.vol, that is your mail. Sprite backup backs up everything - files, registry etc.

How to only back up my own installed programs and pim info?

I did a search and as Ive found over the past few years the search option blows. Anyway, I have been customizing my tilt as well as my moms (that I will be shipping back to her) anyway I need to put another rom on her phone but dont want to lose the customization since it took so long to do.
My question is what specifically to select in lets say sprite back up or spb?
Thanks.
Spb backup allows you to back up the entire phone, contacts, installed programs, sms, everything.
i used it when i was trying out new roms becuase i didn't want to re-set up my phone again from scratch after messing with a new OS.
Fully agree
Sprite Backup also lets you choose exactly what you want to backup.
