I did a search and as Ive found over the past few years the search option blows. Anyway, I have been customizing my tilt as well as my moms (that I will be shipping back to her) anyway I need to put another rom on her phone but dont want to lose the customization since it took so long to do.
My question is what specifically to select in lets say sprite back up or spb?
Thanks.
Spb backup allows you to back up the entire phone, contacts, installed programs, sms, everything.
i used it when i was trying out new roms becuase i didn't want to re-set up my phone again from scratch after messing with a new OS.
Fully agree
Sprite Backup also lets you choose exactly what you want to backup.

What files do I need to backup before I hard reset so I dont have the 2-3 hours to set everything backup.
I like playing withit and trying new things but anm getting tired of trying to
put everything back the way I like it, some lesser used things take a wek or so before i stumble across them and fix them.
I am wanting to keep things like
Email settings and email I had saved
Owner Info
Device ID
Speed dial
Assigned ring tones
Font size
back light
IP Addresses for Wifi
Directory structure (moved a few lightly used itemd to a misc folder to clear up the programs directory)
Start menu items
Today screen
etc. (all I can think of now)
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks
This is something I wanna learn too
Just use a backup soft like Sprite Backup.
BUT THAT WILL RESTORE EVERYTHING LIKE i HAVE IT NOW.
i LIKE TO CHANGE THINGS BUT KEEP MY SETTINGS AND PREFERENCES THE SAME.
Sprite and Sbp Backup both allow you to only restore the PIM data etc.
...create fullbackup to save everything now with i.e. SQB Backup. Perform hard reset and prepare it like you want. Create backup.
Do you thingies and create incremental backups and save with i.e. name of changes. You can then always go back to earlier stages. I use it all the time.
If you need something what's not installed in your new backup then it's gonna cost ya 10 min. to get back in earlier stage...
Ok I did not know they did backups like that I will try it.
Hmm... very interested in this myself as I think I want to get rid of all O2 software (as much as I like O2 I believe their software is unecassary and slows the system down is this correct?), without losing all my personalised settings.
Just two things though...
1) what are/is PIM data/settings?
2) I have read on either this forum or AV forums that I need to input certain settings manually when doing a corporate install ( to completely get rid of O2 software), it also listed what these settings were, but I can't seem to find the post now?
thanks
Matt :?
From what I can find Sprite and SPB define PIM data as tasks and appointments. I have that in outlook with my first sync.
How do I restore all my personal settings and information that is not involved with a sync ?
I to have reached that conclusion...
ah well here's goes nothing with a hard reset! I'll just have to spend hours trying to get everything back to what it was settings wise!
Here goes... I'll let you know how I get on........
Great!
I followed the instructions in the manual, they didn't work, so I followed some instructions from AV Forums, they didn't work either!! My XDA won't die! Good in some respects but how can I hard reset????
Matt  :?:
Well I tried SPB and it did not get what I wanted.
Mostly I got what I would get after a sync.
Any more ideas ?
To clarify I an tired of all the fiddeling I have to do after a hard reset to get all my settings and info back.
I do not mind loading programs but an tired of setting up email accounts
Fonts, Rings, Speed dials etc.
Hooray... hard reset completed, now in corporate mode. Took me about an hour to get everything back to normal, but then I suppose I've only had the machine just over a week so not that much to reset really.
Matt
Hi, i have been searching for a How-to thread on How To backup the kaiser, tilt or any pda. and had no luck.
But my problem is this.
I already setup my tilt to the way i pretty much want it with tweaks, programs and settings, but i would like to take out all that att crap aka bloatware.
Is there a way to take out all that att crap and save all my settings, programs, tweaks etc. i already set and installed or would i have to start all over again?
and if i can do that how do i go about backing up my phone and re installing the restoring it without the att crap?
Thanks in advance.
backup
the only way to get rid of the att crap is to to a hard reset. most of the programs are built into the rom and can not be uninstalled. \
in order to aviod the reinstalling of the apps after a hard reset you need to reset the device right before all the customizations start.
in order to back up your comtacts emails txt msgs and such u need to search for a program called PIM backup. it will back up all of your info.
if i am wrong someone will correct me.

I am a fan of SPB Backup. but there is also Sprite Backup. Both are good and both backup all your installations settings etc. They provide full backups that can have you back up and running in ten to fifteen minutes after a hard reset or a major fault.Unfortunately it is probably a little late to remove bloatware from ATT. Most if not all these add on applications and trials etc were built into the ROM from ATT. You cannot now remove them from the ROM. You might have been able to stop the installation of this bloatware when you first got the device. However, if you were to hard reset now and stop it runnng the customisation stuff, you could not then run your backup, else it will all be put back on again. One or two things may appear in the remove programs section.Still now you have all this experience, you can start again, maybe even try a 'clean' ROM although that brings a different set of issues. It all depends how it is working and if you are happy with it.Mike
The included Sprite back up software is pretty good. It does back up (and restore) all data including programs, tweaks (registry) and most settings. I do notice that it does not back up GPRS proxy settings, but that's easy enough to reconfigure. Can't help with the bloatware.
i guess its not a big pain to redo all my settings... its not too much work to do...
What ROM performs the fastest? i notice this one that came on the tilt is a little slow when txt messaging and when trying to use it in general.
Can someone point me into the right direction?
I downloaded the kaiser-HardSPL.exe program. to unlock it but havent tried yet i wanna make sure im heading into the right direction.
which ROM is the best for ATT? i would like to speed the phone up a little bit.
But if i do this i shouldnt even try and backup my settings because u cant restore different rom backups to other ROM versions .. am i correct?
Thanks for all the help so far!

which rom do u suggest i use for att? thanks bud
So, the screen on my Tilt has died. Luckily I use Pimbackup pretty regularly, so most of my stuff is saved, but I would like to pull my recent text messages off the device. I know I've received a dozen or so texts since the screen broke
Is there any PC based software that will do that? I've searched, but can't seem to find anything that doesn't require installing/using a device based program.
Cheers!
BUMP!
Well, all my searching has come up with nil -- just a quick bump to see if anyone has any ideas before I have to send this unit back tomorrow, when my new one arrives...
Search harder, My Mobiler is probably what you want.
Pocket controller professional will do it. Shows a virtual pda screen on your PC. But with the new Sprite Backup 6.1, you can also initiate backups & restores directly from your PC with the PC Backup manager.
Sprite Back up is now on version 6.2 and will do exactly what you want via desktop back-up.
You guys rock.
My Mobiler worked like a charm to get at my stuff -- curiosity was seriously killing me.
Sprite Backup looks as if it'll be my new backup solutions!
Thanks so much for your help!
Was firstly thinking of doing the 6.1 upgrade to my HTC branded TyTN 2 on T-Mobile. But after noticing they are still supplying 6 I am now just going to do a hard reset, I've had the device for about 15 months now.
Is it easy to backup the Favorites on TomTom6? I will export my settings from FoneAlarm but is there anything else I should do? I will re apply the patches and reload the latest Skype.
The reason for the hard reset is that I often get the "wait" symbol appear and have to reboot cos it slows right down. Also just to clear down any junk.
Cheers,
James
Use any of the reputed backup programs for WM like sprite, spb or PIM backup. It should back up all your data for restore at a later point or on another rom. Download the one that works for you.

If you're only going to back up contacts , sms, emails , calender, then PimBackup is great and easy to use , as is Sprite Back up.
As long as you are cleaning up you're phone for better performance, look at all the custom 6.1 roms available . Better performance, 6.1 and the support of the chefs. Everything T- Mobile couldn't give you.

Can't be easier: copy the MapSettings.cfg from your maps folder. This file stores all your favorites, home address, and recent destinations. I have version 7, but I think it is the same in 6. If not, it is going to be in TomTom's (the program) folder.
Is this possible to do with my tilt? I currently have Slueth WM6.1 customized how I like it and everything functional... however Id like to try some other ROMs to see if I like them.
But I do not want to reload a new ROM, decide I dont like it, and have to spend hours reloading my previous one and installing all the fixes and programs and settings that I like.... is there a way to make a ROM backup, like a "ghost" image of my phone, like you can with a computer hard drive?
Thanks in advance...

There is a software called MyMobiler that will give you a remote desktop to> the phone, so you can see in a window on the desktop what your phone screen is.

Very nice app. Used it all the time when my Kaiser was my main phone.
SPB Clone is another product that they make.
It is pretty awesome.
You can create an image to a flash card and restore the entire image back to the phone.
