Hi guys,
Anyone noticed that when starting the GPS first time for the day and using Garmin Mobile XT, it needs much more time to get fix than with IGO8.
For example this morning I waited for about 5 minutes and Garmin was showing red signal bars. Closed it, run IGO and while opening the satellite info in settings, it already showed good signal. Closed IGO, opened Garmin again and no fix again. I waited another couple of minutes till it fixed at last.

Hello,
I am trying to help a friend with a Kaiser and wants his iGo working in it.
Everything seems ok, iGo starts but after some seconds it shuts down. I tried to change GPS port and everything else I could thought but problem persists. Any advice?

Did you try Tomtom before iGo? I have the same issue with google maps. It will seek sats and give up saying no gps signal. But if I run tomtom and then start gmaps it works fine (inside buildings). I would suggest you open iGO outside and check it out. Are you using COM4?
Will check... now he is travelling (Poland) but will call me when he came back.
I did not tried TOM TOM...
find a free program called GPS Test. Set it to Com 4 / 4800. Much smaller than TomTom and certainly an app that's worth keeping on it.

the issue is that the internal GPS on the Kaiser needs to be "jump started" there a few apps that do this a free one that is also good is GPSViewer and the others mentioned above. I use TomTom well since it came with my Kaiser and with all that Damn Program memory who the hell cares if I use 10MB to install TomTom and a Map
I have never had problems with starting my GPS. I did a quick fix once and have used it with first Google maps (no problem) then Pocketstreets (again no issue) and finally Tom Tom.
I have never had to wait more than 20 seconds or so for a fix. Make sure you are outside before starting the application though.
I have been facing problem with my Kaiser's GPS.
1. It takes me 40 mins ++ (max 1 hr and 20 mins) to fix signal.
2. After i fixed the signal, and after i close my garmin/mapking. it start from 0 again.....another 40 mins ++ to fix.
3. My quickgps is updated.
What is the problem? Could it be the hardward?
And, i have hard reset 4 times...and it still the same.
Btw, i have Garmin mobile XT and mapking installed.
Please advise. Thanks
There are lots of threads on these forums about the TomTom GPS - They've got a lot of info about configuring the set-up which may also be relevant to your Garmin - Look at the Wiki, stickies and try a search - best to use Mike Channon's google search set-up because it's better than the in-built one.
I use TomTom and I've noticed that the time it takes to get a fix will vary depending on which Rom I use, sometimes as long as 30-40 minutes, but normally within 1 minute. I've found that Sleuth's Rom seems to be consistently best for quick gps fixes - but this might just be coincidence that the weather and other conditions were always more favourable at the time.
I can advise the following which works for me:
1. Keep your quickGPS up to date.
2. Run gpsTest at least once to get the correct com port and baud rate for your gps chip.
3. Before you start your gps EACH time, run either gpsTest or VisualGPSce until they get a fix. (For some reason they fix much quicker than my Tomtom - usually seconds after the gps device is found).
4. After you get a fix with one of the above programs then you can start your Garmin program.
Good Luck.
does anyone have this? the program will not run anymore. it loads the splash screen then it goes back to my home screen? are there any solutions?
I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago - never figured out how to correct the problem so I re-installed the program from scratch (on SD card of course) and soft reset and it worked fine...but I don't like Garmin XT that much so I switched to Igo8 instead: the maps are not as smooth but works faster and better + Igo has maps of regions of the world that neither Garmin nor Tomtom have...
One thing for sure, this is not an issue related to your internal GPS so don't go around messing with those settings...
Oh, and you might want to try Tomtom Taster version (with 1 free area downloadable map) - it doesn't take up much memory and it would confirm to you that there is no problem with the GPS itself...
i had tomtom and it sucked. way to many buttons to push just go get a route
the only reason i stuck with garmin mobile xt for so long is because of the free traffic update and gas price, but the software and navigation is slow and choppy, and the random freezes (disabled the agps fixed the freeze issue).
now i finally settled with igo 8... had a good run with tomtom, and probably never touch garmin again. it is a shame, their garmin nuvi is so good

So does iGo have free traffic rerouting and gas price listings like Garmin Mobile XT? These two are my deal-breakers for selecting any GPS routing app.
My Garmin Mobile XT is flawless
I've not had one issue in over four months of use. I've run it at the same time as my Garmin in the car and they both are perfect. What do you mean by slow maps? I'm in the US and the maps have not sent me wrong once. I can't believe how well it works. What version are you using. There are updates online and their tech support is very good without a wait. The only issue I've had is the chip (hardware) doesn't sync up cold for three minutes at times. This happens with Google and Garmin. With garmin you can see the signal strength of each satellite. It usually syncs on eight or nine. I've noticed that several at a time start flashing. I've read that this is a faulty chip issue and HTC says they will replace the whole board free. I haven't sent it back yet because once it syncs it works great for hours of driving.
A hot and warm sync is less than ten seconds. I've tried to contact HTC and the chip manufacturer but haven't been able to reach anyone technical. They just want to change the whole board.
when i start navigation with garmin mobile xt, the position cursor updates once every 2-3 seconds (sudden jump), instead of the smooth movement like tomtom and iGo and google map, even to the highest detail.
I'm on WM6.5. I always thought A-GPS locks position in seconds, however, it used to take almost 3 mins to lock position on iGO 8 & Garmin. I had to use GPS Gate to shorten the time. Now surprisingly after I installed iGO 8.3 & iGO Amigo, both hang at boot & even if they booted, they could not detect GPS. I tried everything including adding port & baud to sys.ini but all failed. I then switched the A-GPS off & here it goes all went well. But still locking position would take the same long time.
Anyone has any idea how to speed up the locking ?
IGo never worked "out of the box" with A-GPS. It is a known issue with Kaiser. While it freezes the device on some ROM, it does not find the GPS on other ROMS.
You always have to start the GPS before with GPSGate, GPSTool, GPSTest or whatever GPS program you have... and most of the time, you can get a fix before IGo finishes loading.
not iGO only but all
it is the same with Garmin & others. I open GPSGate before opening any of them but still it takes around 3 mins to lock position. A-GPS has never speed up the position locking on any app.
What can you recommend to me a good Navigation app. and how to see if my GPS is working?. thanks in advance,
I've been using Garmin XT for a longer time and used to it.
But, (and there is allways one "butt" there, otherwise it would be so boring to live), after changing OS of the Xperia to custom cooked roms here in this forum I'm experiencing a litle bit trouble with this software, (garmin).
First of all, it aquires satelites slower and fixes position slower than ever, continuing to it garmin draws image slower, (maybe video drivers are related to it) and last but not leest it does not remember it's position resulting, (thus), every time You run garmin it runs at cold start, (each time it aquires new satellites, reads Almanah, and fixes it's position from new).
So It may be a good idea to try TomTom, iGo or Navigon.
After I install iGo I will tell you about this.
in the meantime I wish You lot of luck searching for Your answer.

Hi
Tried iGo8
Scared the crap out of me when I did the install...first took for ever to install....then ....phone ran out of memory ?? Could not open anything ...."not enough memory to open application"....resorted to the battery out trick....and everything went back to normal...very strange....
I took for ever to establish link to sat ..or whatever it is using to get your location...have to manually "autodetect" the receiver to get it working...but after that ...it's not bad....off by few meters in your location...but O.K
