[REQ] TouchFlo 3D - G1 Apps and Games

Now I know what you are thinking. TouchFlo 3D doesn't belong here! Well I come bringing an idea. Touchflo 3D is problably the most polished and professional, yet still simple interface that has appeared on a windows mobile device yet. And HTC always seems to be improving it.
Well my idea is what if someone could make an application that looked and worked just like TouchFlo 3D does, it doesn't have to take over the home screen (unless you want it to) and it could include all the tabs you've grown to love, with that big flip clock too. I believe it would be easier to make it for android as it is (from my understanding) easier to code on than windows mobile. And it could include some animations that our beloved TF3D never could dream about.
And from my understanding the iPhone has a clone of it aswell, so it could just be one more thing that says anything they can do, we can do better.
So who agrees?
Here is the idea mockup.

I do realize the time on both are different, it is just photoshoped, and quickly too.
Also I posted this as a thread instead of the sticky to get more attention as this would probably be a bit of a task to do.

I do no want my android phone looking like crappy windows mobile. No thanks I'm happy with the UI of android.

This takes one of the only good, finger friendly, beautiful UI features of windows mobile and brings it to Android. And in my opinion the android home screen isn't much to look at at the moment until the widget sdk is opened up.
But I do agree that windows mobile is ugly (and a lot of other not so good things that I could go on forever with... )

I could really just do with that super cool rolodex like clock on android! Hehe and witht the new dxtop home screen which allows wigets.... it may be a way to make us all happy!

touchflo is somewhat pretty but imho the slide finger to switch crap is a bad idea. it is just too impricise for me.
tap and be there, thats why apples UI works so well.
no thanks, i prefer the android gui, too. but an agenda widget would be good

I think anything is worth a shot and I'm sure there are people that like the big clock. I for one wouldnt use it, it would take away from the amazing themes that are being made and quite frankly the g1 ui looks alot better that that. I like the original look of the g1 and i dont want anything to do with windows or iphone. Thanks for posting the idea dont wanna seem like its not a good idea cause it is but its not for me.

The features i like are the big clock, flip contacts, and the weather (in its animated glory.)
Maybe when the sdk comes out all (but prolly the contacts) can be made as a widget. But since there is no mention or eta of the sdk this was my idea.

Maybe
it would look amazing but i just can't wait till we can widgets. After the release of more widget i just don't know if i would use it but right now i would definitely use it.

Agreed, widgets are a huge thing for android. and it makes me wonder why there werent more pre installed, and why theres no SDK yet...

I would like to see the rotating cube, not TouchFlo 3d sh**s. If i wanna TouchFlo i will buy phone with windows mobile, not the Linux one.

Not a big fan, but hey, I say you should still go for it, because we do have some windows fans here.

Well for me, i happy with how Android right now (i think) But if there something new and cool? why not give it a try!

I was recently using my friends HTC Diamond and fell in love with the TouchFLO 3D interface. I would love to see it implemented into our Android phones. I hope someone can take this idea and make it into a reality!

there is no SDK for security reasons as of yet.
the HOME app has full system privileges, and widgets inside of home also have full system privileges as a result.
there won't be an SDK for widgets until google has found a clean way to seperate the widget privileges from the hosting home privileges.

YES!!! one step closer to TOTAL domination!!!
imho This is a awesome idea. let's look at it in perspective... apple has things from windows and vice versa, with linux getting the best of both worlds. This is how it's been in the pc/mac realm. As for the phone dept. things have been shaping up quite similarly, with one exeption... g1 (the linux in the scenario) is B.U.I.L.T(built using incredibly likable terms) for this concept. So with this and more ideas like this the g1 will become an all immersive, user lovable phone....ultimately dominating the market.
(and the crowd goes wild...)

well well well just to clarify
apple is unix based http://www.apple.com/macosx/technology/unix.html
android is linux based no need to link you all know that
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_difference_between_Linux_and_Unix
so please stop saying apple this or apple that iphone like leopard are just so good gui on a unix based system
they're all the same
the only difference is that Apple and Windows don't reveal their code unlike android (linux os based) which is open source
If you really want to compare compare :
windows VS (apple, android os)

Considering we now have an app like dxtop which is a home screen alternative and has the abbility to add widgets, I would think it'd be possible to have an app which simulates other GUIs like TouchFlo 3D. Right?

Seems like it could be possible to me, we need a developer to get in here and fill us in if it is.

personally
i would only like it to be out as another option
not necessarily for me but for the whole android community

Congrats on a sensible post! I laugh at everyone who says the G1 is for tech-head early adopters only. Has anyone seen the "post you homescreen" topic! LOL.
Anyway, like you said, if dxtop is an alternative homescreen running as an app, then a touchflo type interface should be possible as well.
And for whoever it was crying about the slide UI - we'll this could just have tap and go. OR slide. It's not going to be a straight port is it...

Windows Mobile 6.5 Beta on XDA

Appears that there is a WM6.5 beta rom on xda for the Blue Angel device. Does anyone think it is possible to "port" it to the Blackstone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428030
WM6.5
I think I’ll stick with 6.1 until WM7 comes out. I took a look at the video and it still looks like a turd. I was just reading the sales numbers for Q3 all I can say is the ass clowns at Microsoft need to get it together very quick.
If Microsoft doesn’t get in the game and fast, it may be to late!!
Here is a link!
http://www.cellular-news.com/story/34996.php
omg! that is soooo exciting.
i love new stuff... i am looking forward to WM7 but i can't wait to try something new before that.
what about android, no more discussion about a version to blackstone...
Interesting... Let's hope it get's ported soon
This is really exciting.. However it dosn't look that new to me which is a real shame.. Was hoping for a lot more..
if iwas to hazzard a guess as to what this 6.5 is all about, i would say that 6.5 underlying core maybe the core for WM7, they then strip all the fancy stuff off to leave a faster updated core that doesnt have too much to get messed up. I mean, if they banged out everything and it was too buggy it would be much harder to fix having it all in the mixing bowl.
So, release the basic core with the older UI and get yourself 6 months of free testing on many different devices.
Its a guess, but to me it makes sence, guess we shall have to wait an see.

Strangely, I was thinking the exact opposite. They're sticking with the number 6.5 because the core kernel will remain the same as 6.0/6.1 overall, but with a new, somewhat improved today screen and interface. PIE6, better touch control built-in, some other updated apps, friendlier today with potential plug-in/gadget type of support, but on the same core. Gives them a quick and dirty way to compete with the attractive new competition while preparing for 7 which will contain the brand new core that gives them a lot more flexibility to make it run smoother and have the must-have functionality that the other OSes now have. Honestly, I suspect this one's more likely as it's easier. It takes a lot less time to design a cool interface (not to mention they have the Zune and Danger teams available to help with this) than it takes to improve the kernel.

yay that's what forums are about, discussing!
i found both opinions very interesting. read the first one and convinced me of that right away, then the second one came and i'm all over the place. guys, the real thing is: microsoft is dropping the ball with windows mobile. they created an excellent OS to be used with a stylus than Apple came along with a (i hate to say that) great thumb friendly experience and a, sort of, cute interface and everything was messed up. and not just that there's also google and their android. microsoft got a history of learning opponents moves and counter attacking. i think before we expect we're gonna have a big surprise.
now imagine how funny would it be if even having the best hardware (blackstone) we will still have to put up with a ported version rather than a native one in the end?
i became a senior with this post

your right, it might just be a bodge job on the interface, i really hope not tho, the problem with WM isnt its UI, its the core that cant handle a decent UI, making good shells shouldnt be an issue, your right its an easy way to make it better, but even the TouchFlo UI overlays we have here are hampered by its crap core and slow responce.
Time will tell. the only thing we can be sure of is, either the core or its interface will be crap.
I think the core will remain Windows mobile 6, but with revisions. Hence, 6.5. Microsoft should at least do something about the performance and videocapabilities, since that's what the iPhone is all about.
Secondly, we've got HTC, SonyEricsson, Asus and Samsung with their shells. Microsoft should be more than able to fix up a good shell to run as todayscreen. After that's done, they should drop W.m. 6.5 development entirely and dev W.m. 7.'
In my eyes, WM 6.5 is a people pleaser. But the good stuff comes when WM7 is out.

Windows xp pc style theme please
Personally I really like my Android and I'm prettty fancy footed with flashing builds and themes. I'm currently looking into making a theme on my Notebook that looks like an Android desktop.
But anywho its not that I like Windows Mobile phones, I went from the Htc Herald/Tmob Wing to the G1 and its a world of a lot more satisfying.
But I'd still enjoy my G1 with a windows theme.
Start button at the bottom left, and the notification bar could be implemented at the button which would tackle the date and time look and you'd just have to swipe up. Which honestly I'd like to be see done, no ones really moved the notification bar, I've seen it removed/hidden but that is all.
And I'm sure we all know what Windows operating systems look like so you can understand it.
Anywho I'd appreciate seeing this :] please consider.

I had in mind a more anesthetic pleasing version like 2000, XP, Vista, etc.
I generally think it would be nice to see.
Tap the start feature at the bottom left, that would bring up basic functions all Android platforms have like the calendar, calculator, mail. Then All programs would open all your apps in the tab like form.
I like that Happiness Vista theme for openhome but don't really care for the icons. The Windows 7 theme is pretty cool too, but would love to see a Ubuntu or Linux theme for root if you haven't tried Ubuntu try it!
So you know you can't break your phone trying out new themes. At worst boot loop and an easy fix for that is always around the corner.

Ah my expierence with Ubnutu, like I used Wubi to install it on my Asus Eee 1000HA and it took all day, about three tries, etc etc etc. I finally got it dual booting [I don't use a live disc because the 1000ha is a notebook and lacks the drive. And my home p.c. is too buggy/virus filled currently for me to share the driver] and it was nice, kinda strange and unique, but firefox wouldn't connect and I couldn't get it working.
Went to the forms for my notebook and in the Asus Section but nothing was really helpful, I got directed to another similiar installer that didn't require partitioning the hard drive or anything like that but I have yet to try it.
I'd mainly just like to see the start button at the bottom left, the notification at the bottom, and maybe that could include some of the running apps. But you gotta start somewhere so I sayyyy WINDOWS THEME! :]
Zelda Theme?
[In advance I apologize for not knowing how to thumbnail photos, just be aware the links contain very large photos]
EDIT: For the convenience of any Dev that decides to pick up this theme idea and work with it I will do my best to put all the information right here. My goal is to save you from having to dig through all the posts.
However this may seem pointless if this thread doesn't become a long one.
Anyway as it stands: We would like the following wall paper to be used as the default

And as of current, we would appreciate a good color scheme to go well with this background.
Below are other selected/posted images we have come across that possibly could be placed in the Wallpaper gallery.

What do you think about it? Is this is a really revolution?
I think this phone looks very nice with a stunning UI. The technical specs are nothing special, but this could be quite a hit i think.
thats a savage ass phone, you kno what would be sick tho if you could change the color of all the LED's on it two from blue to like purple or something. It's linux it should be fully customizable like that
I love the look of this phone. Very appealing. I will be interested in seeing more about it.
This would be the perfect MP3 Player. But for a smartphone, I do not know if it will offer the extreme flexibility of any of the four TRUE smart phones: Symbian S60, Windows Mobile, Android.
Does this phone have a file system, etc? Also, does Palm Pre and Palm Pixi have a file system and file manager too?
But I've seen this phone before, and I was excited, and still am.
I just don't expect it to be smart-centric. I expect it to be more like a Zune HD experience with some "quasi-smart" features like on the iPhone.
Original Poster, I think you should compile links on the first post and make this the official ELSE anticipation and discussion thread.

But there are a few things I would like to know more about this phone.
*Judging by the Flash Videos, the keyboard on the phone sucks (but there are some pretty cool features). But the reason why it sucks is mainly due to the layout and size of the keys both in portrait and qwerty.
*I haven't seen any file manager. Will it be on this phone, and how complex is it?
*Speaker quality?

He was talking about the buttons being on the right side of the phone. Easier for us left-handers to use. I don't think you can change hardware location in settings
Use it upside down maybe!! too bad for you!! Does look interesting, but not entirely better than tab bars and such.. it does have that added sliding left feature and I guess it being capacative would not require much tension from the thumb. I am always up for new technology to push the limits.

Wow, maybe the device will not only have rotate orientation buy also flip orientation. That would be awesome!

It's all going to come down to how they market this phone. It looks great and definitely has appeal to those of us with a technical background and who love customization. But what carrier will they market it to? Can it be customized to settings that people find interesting such as led colors, programs, etc? and the biggest one: WHO will they allow to carry the operating system. Getting google to back this would be great, getting Nokia to make a phone able to support this would be great, but which one will have the advertising budget to challenge Apple and the like to the duel that will occur when this and the next generation of iphones is released? A small company like Access is going to have a really hard time trying to compete with Motorola, Nokia, Google, Samsung and Apple especially.
I'm sorry for reviving a dead thread, but does anybody know the name of this phone and the maker? I think the phone failed to launch and the maker went out of business and that's making it hard for me to find any information on this. A name should help, thanks.
The Linux based smartphone have actually been out for awhile. I think (Don't hold me to word on this) there is one called tuxphone. But I'm not sure if that's Linux based when I think back on it...

[Concept] UniverseUI //Make it happen!

Hello I've been creating a concept UI which will essentially be powered by a complete home replacement, I believed this is the answer because the original launcher doesn't exactly give us the power we need to run the User Interface I've designed. UniverseUI is all about simplicity yet structured in a beautiful refined interface which allows you to access the most important parts of your phone with the slightest ease of touch. Accessing what's important to you and make the phone you live become even better will surely make you more happy.

I am really feeling the concept and my thoughts on this is that your one of the people that think that roms should go beyond themes and build a whole new UI and I am also one that rather see new UI's to make each device customizable to fit the users style.
Great concept now I wanna see a dev pull this off

Wow, this looks awesome. I would totally put this on my phone if it was an actual theme/UI.
And I would think that the general style of it would be possible to create, but I don't know anything about making themes.

LOL! Same thing here, all I see is a wallpaper and some over the top texts next to it.
But okay: the wallpaper is nice. It ain't a theme though.
i like it, simple and elegant. think you need some more work on the concept befor you can turn it into a theme, but i like what you have got so far, good luck with further development
the concept is nice
One problem I experience while working with a lot of transparent image on the g1 is failing rendering... so it would be very nice, but I see a lot of problems coming your way.
The Concept is unfinished and I've wrote that on the first post, your phone represents you as a person, the way you customize it and the way you use your phone is something that shows user preference. I posted the UI concept early to show how the development process is launched, and give you a more personal side to the development scheme in the future. There isn't a lot to see but you should clearly grasp how the future of the project should be expanded to.
As it is now it reminds me of a winmo theme. I think there might even be a facade theme running around that has a similar feel to it.
As an android ui i think it has potential to be amazing since as far as i can see development on android, atleast in terms of a homescreen/ui seems to be more open.. if not untapped. I would love to see the psd of this one, maybe making it in to a community theme could make this one really pop?
just my .04.

At this stage I don't think I'm going to release a PSD or any sort in the future. The aim of the concept is to make it look luxurious and clean, and I hope the future revisions will give a better understanding on the concept I'm going for.
The revision 003, has heavily inspired Winpos 7 UI ''Metro'' yet I liked the ease and simple application scroll from it so I wanted to add something similar yet tweaked for my concept. Each box should have an Icon that resembles the box but I didn't finish them. Here is the 2nd screen being revealed, the next revision will probably explain a little more about the concept and it's unique application database and a small rehaul of the 1st screen.
I've uploaded the third revision, feedback is welcome , thanks for all the views
It looks like this is turning into a home replacement, not a theme..
Look into building themes for SweeterHome. Almost all of the features in your concept can only be done with a home replacement.
sweeter home.

Looks like WinMo7///Zune HD, heh, but that's not a bad thing.
I like it except that it's not very smooth (see the text...).

i concur with this statement

Windows mobile is losing of Symbian and Android by own weapon: HOME SCREEN

I don't know why MS or other companies have stopped creating good home screen solutions.
Last good thing we know is Mobile Shell 3.5 but it is far away from perfect.
Symbian (N97) phones have nice solution with lot of widgets as:RSS, Weather, Photocontacts, analogue clock, facebook.
Android has good widgets and lot of them. You can create anything of your home screen.
Windows users (as most "business" ones ) need to search for "home made" stuff as upgrades for Mobile Shell or classic today screen on xda.forum or other sources.
Today screen of windows mobile (classic, titanium, touch flo, mobile shell) still are unfinished.
FLO does not have possibilities to put all widgets in one screen (you cant use rss, contacts, weather, clock... on one screen)
Mobile shell even does not have rss widget at all (WHAT A SHAME)
You can do that with classic layouts but you are unable to move around the screen (you are only able to vertically re-arange layouts)
I had the first HTC Canary... home screen was something innovative, something modern but now...
hmmm windows mobile 7 has no widgets for homescreen?
For Flo (aka Sense) there is CHT, all widgets on one screen etc...
Did you check out CHT?
Because of WP7. WM will never have the potential to compete consumer-wise with Android or Symbian - Android is what WM should have been, and Symbian does not require such complexity to achieve some potential.
WP7 has a take on widgets in the form of Live Tiles. I find they feel more organised than Android widgets, which vary tremendously in size, style, etc.

not enough for business needs.

Did you have Xperia? Just run Android on it! I'm waiting for DOC3000 theme for WVGA here. I think it will be very customizable.

Indeed it's a small community now and a lot of ppl have moved on. But imo it's eyecandy adaptable and the progress on CHT is impressive. With enough work this can be great. Android is commercialized meaning more support which is why they have made so much progress. Symbian is linux based meaning beyond customizable but imo the n900 is the device that let's you do anything meaning it's god like smartphone. But that doesn't leave winmo out. It still needs more support and beleive it or not it's getting it. More ppl are customizing and a lot of mods have been released.
So who knows in the future maybe in a year or two this'll die out depending ont the support it gets. But winmo faithfuls haven't given up. Tbh I have an iphone 3g i just use this phone for customizing but I for one am impressed... :3
As for the business part of it I wouldn't rely on winmo it's actually not suited for it, the whole kernel is pretty buggy and god knows if you get an BSOD(black screen of death). I understand that other OS phones are pretty stable but winmo is tweakable so far I haven't had one SOD in 3 months thanks to chefs and all that.
@MrBeoTP2: hurr
The thing about your homescreen most of your components are used by other android homescreens xD
SPB MS have rss widget, but u must buy spb news
