Is there anyway I can make my MDA Vario IV read text messages? I had a program that did it on my N95, and TBH, I miss having it.
I've done a search, but it didn't really come up with anything.

I already posted this in the other thread you started. Please dont start new threads....search and if you are unable to find anything (which is rare) then post new questions here if you need help rather than starting a new thread

Does your MDA not have Voice Command preinstalled? If so, it's already capable of this...
Go to SETTINGS (from Start menu) --> PERSONAL (tab) --> VOICE COMMAND
The checkbox next to "Enabled" should be checked, then scroll down and check the one next to "Messaging" in the list.
Now, tap on "Messaging" to select it then tap "Options" on the right. Deselect the "High Priority Messages Only" checkbox, and ensure the "Announce New Messages" is selected. Tap "OK".
Finally, tap "Notifications" and choose the radio button that best fits your situation. I personally have it set to only announce notifications through my bluetooth headset, but that's because I get some pretty risqué messages that I would never want read aloud through the phone's speaker (especially in public!) I also don't have "Only during free time" selected, because if it's going through my headset anyway, it won't be a distraction in a meeting because the headset will be off, thus no voice notification.
Anyway, hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply.
I've just been into the settings like you have said, and I don't have it. Is the Voice Command the MS one? If so, i have it on my laptop but haven't put it on the phone yet (I downloaded it because I liked the way my N95 spoke the name of the person calling me).
I'm going to try installing it now and see what happens.

I would like to have a message delivery notification for each of my outgoing SMS text messages.
Currently I have to tap manually the “Request message delivery notification” option for each SMS text message I'm sending.(At the screen where you are typing the message click on: menu -> message options -> “Request message delivery notification”)
How can I get automatically a "message delivery notification" for each SMS sent?
Try setting the following registry key to '0'
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSNoSentMsg
Wrong... thats the key that tells the device to confirm it has sent the msg (which most XDA members rush to turn off), not the one that tells it to confirm delivery to the recipient.
For that you need:
HKCU|Software|Microsoft|Inbox|Settings|SMSDeliveryNotify = 1
(and be aware that some networks charge for delivery notifications)
Thanks for the fast reply. Yes, I mean the notification that you get from the provider when it has been delivered at the recipient.
But I don't see "SMSDelivery Notify" in: HKCU|Software|Microsoft|Inbox|Settings
Might it be somewhere else in WM6?
FYI: I have a TyTN II WWE edition (if there's any difference)
Btw, can I edit it with Total Commander?
If yes, do I have to choose for decimal or heximal?
Thanks!

im using vario 3 and it seems i havent got this reg , can i add it ?
You can do this without editing the registry:
in Outlook goto tools/options then tap sms/mms and you'll have 2 checkboxes, one is with delivery notification "globally"
Yes the top one is "request deilvery notifications" and that means by default.
(Again remember some networks charge for delivery reports - and dont include them in your text bundles)
does t-mob uk do it ? i mean do they charge ?
i have the att tilt and i want to turn off the "message sent" notification that everyone hates, however all i can find is the same thing about going to the inbox\settings folder but my phone does not have that, when i go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\ the only folders i see are \SendDriver and \svc and inside \svc there is \ActiveSync, \IMAP4, \POP3, and \SMS, i tried putting the smsnosentmsg dword in all these folders and any subfolders but still have the notification
ive got the delivery notifications turned on, is there anyway to get the phone to tell me who ie the recipients name instead of just a number in the delivery notification?
cheers

Install SMSDRfix this will replace the number in the delivery notification with the contact name from your address book.

thanks mate your a star works like a dream. was the only good thing about bloody nokia's out of the box!!
Hello, I have an XDA Stellar (TYTN II) running WM6. My old TYTN I had both tick boxes, but my new XDA only has the 'Unicode' one. Is there another way?
Many Thanks
Hello
I also have just bought an XDA Stella (Like tony38 above) and unlike all the other XDA's I've owned (Before this the Trion) the Message Delivery notification option in the options tick box is missing in the message settings and when I go into the regedit on my pc amending it remotely, it won't let me edit the SMSDeliveryNotify field from 0 to 1 and says permission is denied. If I use a pda based regedit it let me edit the field but as soon as I reboot the pda it resets it to 0 again.
I use message delivery notification a lot as I deal with people who are on planes a lot so I usually get the delivery report when they land and then I know I can call them etc.
If anyone nows how to fix this then I'd greatly appreciate it as its really annoying and I don't now why they have removed the option for delivery notification.
Many thanks
David
I've seen on some phones that you can be informed when your text message has been read rather than just delivered. Is this possible with windows mobile?
Does delivery notification mean that the person actually opened the text?

1. You cannot do anything on the phone. You have to setup your voicemail that way.
2. Are you saying that you are not seeing anything on the popup box or are you saying that they are small and not so readable? If it is the latter, then you have to rely on 3rd party programs (ex: Photo Contacts Pro or S2U2). Search the forums for these two programs.
I found on the phone that you can alter the delay before the phone switches to "voice Mail"
on the second problem.....
the box pops up in the lower part of the screen . The bottom section isnt high enough to shown the full ID contact name etc its hidden
2. Reordering the plugins or deactivating a couple you don't need may do the trick. I think it's under 'settings -> Today.

On my T-Mobile MDA Vario III (UK) you can find this option as follows:
Start>Settings>Personal Tab>Phone>Service Tab
Highlight the "Call Forwarding" option in the list and click "Get Settings...."
You should then see a list of network settings, one of which is:
Forward phone calls only if:
Then a ticked box next to "No answer: Voicemail"
Below this change the value for "Forward after" in the drop down list - multiples of 5 secs from 5 to 30.
When you are done click OK and you should be good to go.
I hope its the same on yours!?
Cheers

Change default time for call forwarding
Hi,
Due to our operator procedure i have to acivate call forwarding by dialing special command. It is not a problem, however every time I cancel call forwarding and activate it again, I have to adjust timing for it. By default it is set to 20 seconds and I need it to be 5. Any tricks how can I do that? Tried to find it in registry, but no luck.

Thank you this was the perfect answer.
any one know how to make the delivery reports a permanent thing in stead of manually ticking the box every time i send an sms?
many thanks in advance
Sure -
(deep breath...)
Start > Programs > Messaging > Menu > Tools > Options > SMS/MMS > Request delivery notifications
Mathew
i get as far as programs then there is no messaging in there unless im not seeing something on my htc
just use one of the advance configuration utilities found on this forum. you'll find the option you are looking for there
Like me, you don't have the messaging shortcut in programs... not to worry.
On the home screen, tap the Messages icon, then tap 'All Messages'. Here, you can pick up the route described by MJNewton above, by going 'Menu', then 'Tools', then 'Options', and finally tapping the SMS\MMS account, where you'll get the tick box you require.
many thanks for your replies found the option now

If it's not in the programs menu, then it's in the start menu. On windows mobile devices, a program cannot be in both places at once, unless you create a duplicate icon yourself.
Hi!
I'm quite desperate. I'd like to start SMS on my Kaiser with one or two clicks. So please recommend me how to make my SMS box the default message box (I'm not using MMS, who does anyway... I mean SMS are so much more popular) and/or direct "Compose a new SMS" or so. I also use HTC Home. Ideally I'd like to add a button in HTC Home which would directly open a new SMS (not MMS).
And yes, I did use Google "site:forum.xda-developers.com Kaiser SMS" + various combinations of words "default", "folder", "quick", "fast", "button", "MMS"...
I also tried several registry and other things tweakers.
Thanks
Btw, if you could recommend an application for quick taking notes, something like primitive drawing or so... PhatPad maybe?
um htc home (with the big clock) has it with one click..
I don't really understand your request, but this might be what your after? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2287306&postcount=6
EDIT:
Also,
When viewing your SMS's do: Menu, Tools, Options and Untick "Display account picker when opening Messaging".

Try installing HTC action screen. It will map the left softkey to be able to create new mms/sms/email/apointment/contact, all with one click of the button. That might be what you're looking for.
Hi,
I am also quite desperate for this. I will try to explain what is that we are after.
When composing a new SMS message we need to follow the following steps.
1. Go to Messaging Application
2. Select SMS \ MMS
3. Click on Menu
4. Click on New
5. Now we need to select SMS from the list that shows MMS / SMS / Voicemail.
Now here is the problem, we would like to have SMS as the first option if possible (It helps save the click I need to do, if I am using the D-Pad), Alternatively, a direct link to just start composing a new SMS message directly without going through multiple menus.
Thanks
Manik
Hi,
I missed the link of my previous post (#3). Sorry. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2287306&postcount=6
The link was to a CAB to create a "New SMS" link on the left or Right soft key.

wow, from the main screen I tap 4 times with my finger and I'm good to go. That really isn't that much work.

Well, I click on the the envelope icon (1), then I have to click on "Menu" (2), "Go To" (3), "Text meddages" (4), "Menu" (5), "New" (6). This makes SIX clicks.
for me,
Envelope, menu, new, and sms..
Done.
After clicking the envelope, if it opens to email press the 5 way to the right and it will bring up SMS.

Hi All,
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to change the tone played when a sms message has been sent, tried searching the forum (promise) with various terms but can't find any answers. The default tone sounds a bit dated compared to the ones you can change via the settings?
Cheers
Setting Tab: click Sound. Then Advanced (right button). And after that the Notifications tab.
Under the Event field choose Messaging: New text message. Then you can customise what you like.
by the way, if you wish to use your own mp3, It must not be stored in the Internal Storage (4GB) othewise it wont appear on the drop down list.
hope this helps

mp3s can be stored in internal storage/my documents to be used as choices for new ringtones. been possible since wm5 i think.
i dun think TS is asking for changing of incoming msg alert, rather the alert sound that plays after the msg is sent and the notification lights up.
hmm, i disabled the msg sent notification, find it pretty annoying to acknowledge and dismiss after so many WM models.
Thanks for the responses, enfant_terrible has is right though. it's the message sent tone that I'm trying to change, I can see an option to change the MMS sent tone but nothing for an SMS. Not the biggest issue in the world I grant you but it bugs me that I can't change it plus I'm also trying to remove all traces of the Tytn II this phone has finally replaced! Pretty happy otherwise.
Thanks.
