Cloning of all memory: how to? - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

How to read all ROM+FLASH memory and then write ROM+FLASH memory.
So will be 100% workable backup tool.
Is it able?

you can use tools such as QMAT from revskills.de wich is able to read complete NAND structures, but i think if you never looked @ the Memory structure of a HTC device you wont be happy to own such tool.
The memory is devided into several parts so there would NEVER be a 100% read & Write tool cause you cant access everything totaly in one step. Just read about how to dump rom / radio (possibly how to reflash SPL) as i think that would be enough to backup and restore for normal users, or ? what u want with the bootloader ? Or an NV items tree ?
Greets

backup tools can't correct restore file system, some registry values and etc.
4 of 5 times of restoring from "file" backup was unsuccessful.

Is it possible with clone software like spriteclone ?

Removing the ExtROM

My Wizard's running low on internal storage, how would I go about getting rid of the extended rom and expanding the internal storage to fill the space it leaves? Would I be able to do a backup using SPB backup, then flash a ROM (not sure which one I'd need), then restore the backup?
I don't think it's currently possible to remove the Extended ROM without somehow rewriting the partition tables but that's beyond most people, including me! However if it was possbile then it would msot likely be possible to do a straight forward backup and restore so long as it was the same OS image.

Entire Flashrom Backup/Restore

Is there a way to almost duplicate the flash memory, OS, Filesystem, contacts, by backing up the entire memory address? I need to restore it all to a new phone, my screen busted on my old HTC Atlas (T-mobile wing) and i need all my contacts and files. Something like Flash Backup for the razr? Thx

There IS a backup system. I think it's called Sprite backup or something. But it doesn't back up the OS and I'm not sure about the filesystem either...
Yep its Sprite Backup, and its the best one out there, it Backup/restore everything but the OS .............. your filesystem, Registry, Settings, contacts, Messages etc. ......................... I walk around with a most recent backup of my device on my Storage card and if I ever have to hardreset while I am on the road I dont have to wait untill I get home to setup my phone the way I want it .........................
The other one Is called SPB Backup, but it does not compare to Sprite. There is a good Comparison between both software HERE
The screen is busted on this phone, is there not a way to dump the rom like cooking a rom and then write it to a new phone?
Not for the things in the storage. Just for the ROM itself. Not without being able to install a program to it.

Testing a ROM safely

Hi, there are so many ROM's to try and I don't like to go trough all the trouble of installing programs and tweaks all the time.
I would like to setup one ROM for primary use make a complete backup of the phone, programs settings etc.
Than flash another ROM try it and if it is not working as expected to return to the previous ROM and setup.
Something like making a HDD image on a PC before trying a different OS.
Any ideas how to do this?
Mobile devices don't have HDD installed, therefore partitioning is not possible,Roms are flashed to the Memory of the phone. So only one Rom can be flashed!!!
Um....Based on mDOC specification, The flash chip DO have partitions, and actually you can get 10MB more for data storage if the ROM eliminated the ExtROM partition (IPL/SPL, OS ROM, Radio ROM, ExtROM and user data are actually in same flash chip, just in different partitions).
However, you know that The mDOC chip in Wizard is only 128MB. It is not possible to have 2 OS installed in the same mDOC disk becaue you aren't possible to get enough space. Even if you get enough space, you need to hack the SPL to have your desired partition loaded and relocate the user partition.

The idea was not to have two OS'es on the device.
I just wanted to try out a different ROM, but after reflashing the previous ROM to be able to restore the applications and settings as they were before flashing.
something like:
Flash ROM_A
Install Applications
Tweak and setup device.
Make Backup of everything.
Flash ROM_B
see if it fits, is it OK or not, etc.
If not, Flash ROM_A,
Restore Backup for ROM_A
Return to regular usage....
Any ideas on how to do this?
Just get a copy of ROM_A, then use SPB Backup to backup your user data before flash ROM_B...
In case of problem, just flash ROM_A and restore the SPB Backup.
OK, I'll try that.

It seems it is possible on flash memory, see here.
Depends where the photo were saved.....main memory or memory card? there are many programs available that can recover *deleted* files from memory cards. I can recommend tis one: "Zero Assumption Recovery" which allows you to recover only 4 files per run in the trial version but completely recover all files for the full version. If you have more than 4 files to recover then u have to re run the program everytime after recovering the last 4 files but it still works. I have used this program to recover a complete 8GB memorycard after it crashed.
Deleted Photo Recovery
Recovery of deleted photos depends on few factors such as the storage media that is in use, and the time that has passed after the photo loss has occurred. If overwriting has not taken place, then is definitely possible, as there are innumerable number of photo recovery utilities available online.
You can download the software using the link given below,
recoverdeletedphoto.net
i don't get it
Try Kernel for FAT and NTFS data recovery software which can efficiently and instantly recovers all your pics on a single mouse click.

i have a SGS II and i have accidentaly deleted pictures from my trip... i know how to recover files froom memory card, but in this case, the files were deleted from the phone memory, annd the software doesn't reconigze SGS II. Is there solution for this?

Well, it's a general idea but i would backup the phone rom to a file on your hard disk and then would try a program called photorec on that file.
A FreeWare Recovery Program
freedatarecoverysoftware.net
Free Data Recovery Software can get your lost data back and recover files and folders that previously deleted.
Features:
Securely recovers deleted content from NTFS, FAT or FAT32 partitions.
Retains folder structure where possible in an organized matter.
Uses a familiar explorer like interface for easy overview and retrieval of lost data.
Fast. Recovery information's are retrieved per user action.
High data recovery success rate. Compare the data retrieval success with most commercial programs - in most cases the percentage of data recovered is actually higher with FDRS. Why pay then?
Very easy to use. Click to scan drive, find lost file, click to recover them.
Free Data Recovery Software is portable. That means it does not require installation, there is only one stand alone executable (.exe) that can be run from removable drives, CD or DVD drives, memory cards, flash memory etc.
FDRC cost nothing, it is free and it will remain free.
Success,
Senax

it worked! i was able to recover the files after this!
Unfortunately, i could not open the files recovered, the jpg are listed, but they dont open. I tried at least 3 softwares. Windows say the file format isnt supported... tried to sent the recovered files to the phone, but impossible to visualize too.. well.. at least i tried.
recover and backup
i can recommend data recover wizard to recover the deleted photos. it can recover photos, files, videos...
backing up your photo is the safest way to protect them. some tool can be backup them to a image file. when disaster comes you can recover it from image file.
there are so many backup tool on the market. i used free one todo backup to backup them.
I have used best digital media recovery tool to recover lost digital data from my memory card. This tool recovers data from hard disks, iPods, external USB drives efficiently. You can estimate recovery chances of the tool when you download demo version that allows to preview recovered data before saving it.
Well most of the times i have recovered my lost images with the help of a photo recovery application, no matter what digital device it was stored into. With the help of a effective and easy to use UI it have become simple for the user to recover their images and other files as well.
Hi...
You can recover deleted photos by using "Remo Recover (Windows) - Media" Edition software. I have done photo file recovery from memory card when I deleted JPEG files accidentally and this software works excellently. This software supports to recover all types of photos. So you can download this software from internet and start to recover deleted photos.
The data in the memory card can get corrupted or damaged due to accidental deletion, frequent disk formats, software virus and many others. When memory card corrupts, data stored inside it becomes completely inaccessible and users cannot search the required result. For this, memory card recovery algorithms should be used.
Deleted Photo recovery is not a very big task. Recovery is possible but for the same you have to take help of third party photo recovery (Recupero Foto) software. There are several software available in the market, you can choose anyone of them. However before making any choice it is highly advisable to check the demo version of that particular software. This will give idea about it.
How to recover photos if deleted or lost
Hi There,
The Lost photos or files can be recovered easily as you have lost your photo its nothing to worry about. The deleted photos are seems to be deleted but they are still there in the memory and you can retrieve them. So to recover deleted photo is not a big task but only the condition is that you should not save anything on you storage media after you deleted you photos. If its attempted then the files will be overwritten and cannot be recovered.
this link helped me a lot:
please exceed www before recoverdeletedphoto.net/
regards
Linda
You need to download HTC data recovery software to retrieve back deleted photos and other items, take a look at this guide:
how to recover data from HTC phone
hope this helps.

Begginers Tips

Hi all, I wanted to start a thread for beginners like me to not get confused from all the similar threads and to keep it clean for instructions that are related for basic setting up the phone.
It would be nice to keep the first post updated with data that are 100% correct for any region or provider based phone.
So, to get started with me, i have read through the threads for a couple of days but still have some questions that hopefully someone will answer.
1) SIM-Unlock
I recently got my Mini from my provider Telenor in Serbia, and the first thing for carrier based phones someone will probably want is to SIM-unlock them. You can check if your phone is locked by entering *#7465625# in the dialer pad.
The cleanest and fastest solution that works 100% so far is from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335548
I used the second method since I'm on OSX and have no way of installing Android SDK but can find a hex editor ("Hex Fiend" ) that works under OSX.
2) ROM-Upgrade
For people that have SIM-free phones the first step may be upgrading to newer ROM(and since Ginger is the favorite ROM my guess that I don't need to write any info for Froyo based devices), my suggestion is that you download Official ROM-s from sammobile.com because they are guaranteed 100% clean and you can also find carrier based ROM-s if you mess something up and want to take your phone for warranty reparation.
How to update your phone to Ginger is described here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255305
After the update it is recommended to do cache and data cleanup. And a hard reset by entering *2767*3855# in the dialer pad.
Go into restore mode(Power off your phone, hold Home and Power button), and when a menu comes up select "clear cache", and "clean data", select reset afterwards and wait for it to boot .
After this you are ready to go and explore Android OS
3) Install CWM
And that's it for people who want to just use their phone as an android device. But. If you want to get the maximum potential from your device custom ROM-s are a must. For flashing custom ROM-s you will need Clock Work Mod to be installed, which is described here
http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/09/installing-clock-work-mod-recovery-in.html
4) Custom ROM
Afterwards download the custom Rom of your choice from xda , the installation instructions may wary form ROM to ROM but they always are described in their threads( SO READ THEM CAREFULLY ), here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318735
And here is where i stopper, and need further help from experienced people
My questions are:
1. After i installed the custom ROM, I need to repartition and reformat my sd-card to a different file system ex. ex-fat for faster performance using Clock Work Mod???
2. Do I have to do some zip-aligning and how???
3. How many partitions do i must have on my sd-card and what size/file system must they be??? ( i know one must be for swap, one for dalvik, and one to expand internal storage but I don't know how big and which file system).
4. I want to use a custom kernel for undervolting(no OC is needed) and thus i need to move the dalvik to sd card as far as I understood, is there a tutorial or is it intuitive from the app that is used to do this???
Bump, does anyone know any of the related questions?
1. After i installed the custom ROM, I need to repartition and reformat my sd-card to a different file system ex. ex-fat for faster performance using Clock Work Mod???
--> Two options:
-ClockWordMod Recovery.. CWM partitions the sd-ext in ext3 format. Also, swap can be partirioned here. Partitioning in CWM will reformat the whole sd card.
-If you want ext4 format, you can dowload Minitool Partition Wizard. I don't know if there is an OS X version though. If you can partition drives on OS X without 3rd party software, that's great.
2. Do I have to do some zip-aligning and how???
--> I don't think you have to zip-align it yourself. Depends on the ROM I think, it's probably a feature.
3. How many partitions do i must have on my sd-card and what size/file system must they be??? ( i know one must be for swap, one for dalvik, and one to expand internal storage but I don't know how big and which file system).
--> You need:
sd-ext (ext3 or ext4) - partition used to expand internal memory
fat/fat32 - normal partition
swap - depends on the ROM, CM7 by squad supports swap.. emanon v3 does not since it uses s2e, no option for swap..
--> Depending on the number of apps that you are planning to install, sd-ext can be 512MB or 1GB or 2GB. Swap value deplends as well, 32MB to 128MB, I think. I have not come across an article on what's the best value for this.
4. I want to use a custom kernel for undervolting(no OC is needed) and thus i need to move the dalvik to sd card as far as I understood, is there a tutorial or is it intuitive from the app that is used to do this???
--> did not find any.. not sure with other models.. for our mini, CM7 by squad has an undervolt option but not sure if it is working..
