VirtualSheep - Make use of your G1 screen when it's plugged in. - G1 Apps and Games

VirtualSheep - Let your Android Dream!
VirtualSheep is an Android application that replaces the boring blank screen you see when your Android is plugged in. With VirtualSheep, whenever you plug your Android into the wall or the computer, you get a dynamic slideshow of photos from Flickr (no Flickr account necessary). If you have your own Flickr account, you can see a slideshow of your own photos!
In addition to the ever-changing slideshow, you can watch live news feeds from Google News and link to them by touching the news title.
VirtualSheep is great for people who leave their phone plugged in while at work, school or at home!
Plug it in, and the slideshow begins. Unplug and it ends. It's that easy!
Click here from your Android to find VirtualSheep in the Android Market:

sounds cool, but not able to access the application via your provided links. i dont have, nor intend to use flicker, but the newsfeed thing could have been interesting

I double checked the links - they're correct.
The market is sometimes weird with the search function. It seems like it depends which server you hit when you search.
If you can't find the app with the search, by clicking the link I posted, you can find it manually under the Multimedia section.
Sorry for the inconvenience. If there was something I could do, I would.

That's a pretty good idea. Right now this one shows the time on the screen (next to the RSS feeds), but no alarm.
I'll add it to the list of feature requests.

I bought this app right after reading this page. Cool idea for a screensaver app

I hope I don't show my age bringing up screen burn. LOL Ok, so maybe not screen burn per se, but maybe screen burn-out. Is it bad to have your screen on all night like this? That's what I don't get about all these alarm clock apps --- it can't be good to have the screen on and showing numbers and photos all night.

Version 1.0.5.
- Added option to set your own RSS feed Url. Now you aren't limited to just Google News!
- Added an option to turn off the slideshow - for people who want the news without the distraction of the pictures.

The devices have a setting straight from the factory that makes them keep the screen on when plugged in. I think it's ok if Google ships them with that setting.
I hear you, though. By default, VirtualSheep keeps the screen at the dimmer backlight setting. There is an option to use the full brightness, though.

Different today screens?

I know this is a bit of an odd question, but is there a way to have two different today screens on the Tilt, one for when the keyboard is closed and one for when its open?
I want this because i dont like having to scroll down on the little scroll bar to access the programs below when the key board is open.

is there a program or a setting that could do this?
And to refrain from posting 2 threads, is there a way to schedule your phones ring volume? like every week day from Time A to time B its vibrate and the rest its not?
I think the answer is yes, and yes.
I'm pretty sure the phone uses different pic files when changing resolution upon opening the Tilt. I don't know of a program to set it but I bet there is one. I'm surprised no one has helped on that yet. Hang in there.
There are several programs to set the phone volume at a schedule. This is called a "phone profile". PocketZen Phone and SPB Phone Suite are two examples.
Try a search, see my sig fo link. Good luck.
If you use Resco Picture Viewer and set one picture as a wallpaper when on portrait mode, and then another when you're on landscape mode, you'll get two different wallpapers.
If anyone knows of another method I would like to know aswell.
Cheers
Ok pizzaguy wants 2 diferant screens on slide open and closed. Not only change the wallpaper (background). Well pizzaguy I hope someone can help u because then they would also be helping me.... I want the same thing. Later dude.....
I think the only solution is Wisbar Advance Desktop.
That can create a page for portrait and one for landscape.
There is a program from a company called Netwasp, Thememaker M, that allows you to make WM6 themes with a portrait and landscape Graphic that are different. I'm using it to make themes for my Tilt, and it works great

I use PhoneWeaver from http://www.SBSH.net for this, and love it. I have it set up to be on vibrate during normal business hours, quite after I put my daughter down to bed, silent at night while I'm sleeping, and loud rest of the time. Everything can be completely scheduled based on time/days. You can also set up different alerts for Phone/Mail/SMS/etc. based on these profiles as well. The only issues that I have come across is that it doesn't turn Wifi off correctly, but I think there is a work-around for this.

dxTop Widget Development

Wanted to start a thread here about dxTop widgets. I want more of them! Memory Management is awesome, now we just need a few more!
This is basically a plea to the Developers here to make a few.
Weather
Calender
Frequent callers
RSS
Digital Clock
New Analog Clock (If you make themes, maybe just extract your clock, and make them avalible as dxTop Widgets, as dxTop overwrites the clock styles )
There are more, a better starting list is at the dxTop Forums however
Perhaps a XBL Widget showing peoples status. Or maybe even a mini buddy list from some of the IM clients.
I'm thinking about adding a widget view to the open source Wifi Tether app so that you can just click on a button on your screen... If the author doesn't beat me to it.
I would like a RSS feed widget and weather widget. Maybe a system status widget(storage, temp, memory, and cpu speed)
Perhaps the tether widget could show who is also connected.
I am all about the different style clocks. Thats a great idea.

Yeah, but the thing is, I'm probably not going to actually code it because I dont have the time; I'm just going to make a view for it... eventually... =D

Wouldn't that end up being a widget that's about the size of an entire screen?

Or you just touch a widget the same size as the Mem monitor, and it changes between them/expands like a folder opening for more detailed view, or a combo of both, tap to change the quick view, hold for a detailed overview.
Mind you, I am not code savvy, so I have no clue if it'd work...but the widgets in windows can do similar things, so some intelligent Developer might take a swing at it =)
three words... upcoming calendar appointments
I think once there is a more complete "how-to", I think more will become available.
I cant wait though!
i always wanted some widget like this
i thought it would be a great
addition to the home screen

could be a good use for that extra screen , lol
or make it one whole screen or in parts that way you can disperse them among your 4 screens

Its magic!!!

Yesterday as I was leaving work I noticed a new icon on my default (home) desktop called Android. I didn't put it there and have no idea how it got there. When you tap it, it opens a window with like 8 android system icons, txt, settings, ect. Its kinda handy I suppose but not really needed, but I'm really curious where the heck it came from. Anyone else see this on their device?
Sounds like a folder rather than a shortcut? Never seen it before and it's not one of the default folders either.
Yeah I think you're correct. All those functions I usually do from the (LP) dock, and its like the phone decided I use those enough that I need a dedicated folder!!?? Nothing else has changed, the first place I looked was "About Phone", everything is as it was before. Weird!
Edit: also I have LP set to not have text labels for any icons, but this one does say "Android", jesus phone indeed, ha!
Edit: Oh, and the graphic is a generic gray cellphone.
Screenshot??
Sure when I get home and have access to my computer/SDK
SDK? Looking at the spec list you don't need it?
You are aware you can use screenshot apps with root, right?

Yeah took a quick look at the Market and nothing really jumped out at me, and didn't have a lot of time to monkey around with my phone.
Anyhow,

Not sure about the Android shortcut/icon, but the second screen looks similar to the popup that shows when you hold the home button. (recent activities list)
Looks like one of the default Folder Organizer items, do you have that installed? If so, you probably added the widget while it was in your pocket or something. I'd be less worried about your phone and start wondering if your leg is becoming self aware!

Bingo!! Its a widget selection for a program I have called App Organizer, having said that, it takes four (specific) keypresses to get it to a place where I never put icons. I always leave my default home screen devoid of any clutter, (except time), for viewing cool wallpapers.
So I guess I'm back to, did this program just decide, without any interaction from me to put an icon on my desktop? Certainly not earth shaking, but a little bit irritating having some guy behind a monitor deciding how I should use my device.
In the scheme of things theres probably a lot more than less of this going on behind the scenes than I can see, lol.
Thanks for the replies/help clearing this up!

[APP] Membrain Recorder-[R]-04/04/11-[V]-0.9 (BETA)

Name: Membrain Audio Recorder
Description:
Hey guys, this is my first foray into Windows Phone app development. This program originally debuted at the PennApps Mobile competition at the University of Pennsylvania. A lot of people thought it was a very neat concept so my partner and I decided to put it on the marketplace in case anybody finds it useful.
Membrain is a “smart” audio recorder application which only saves what you want it to hear. It offers two main advantages to the competition: the addition of a "set and forget" mode, and the ability to sync your files to your Dropbox account.
Membrain works by taking calibrating to the ambient audio level and only recording when it detects noise above that threshold. It’s perfect for times when you don’t have the ability to repeatedly press the stop and record button. For example, just set it before you go to bed, place your phone next to your bed, and listen to anything you said in your sleep the next morning!
Even better: if you ever need to move these recordings from off your phone, Dropbox integration is provided for uploading your recordings.
To use it, simply press the "listen" button (the ear) and let the program calibrate to the current noise level. Then, press the listen button again and you're good to go. There will be a red circle next to the volume bar if the noise level goes above the threshold to indicate that the app is currently recording. Hit stop when you want the listening to end. If you upload a file and don't find it in your dropbox account folder, try pressing the button again (we're currently working to track down why this happens).

Thanks for the heads up bennyj71. The link was working last night but it seems like there's something going on with our app listing in the marketplace. I'm going to see if I can fix it, but in the meantime, if you search "membrain app" on your phone, it should be the first result that comes up.
I got it. Tried the app last night. Doesn't seem to work under lock screen though.

Thanks for the feedback benny. I just tested the app and unfortunately I can't seem to reproduce your issue. If it's not too much trouble, could you describe how you noticed the recording under the lock screen wasn't working, and what kind of phone do you have?
Thank you!

I started recording. The screen timed out. I kept talking. Once I finished I turned on the screen. When I replayed the recording, nothing I said when the screen timed out was recorded. I've tried three other recording apps. They had this issue as well, it was fixed in various updates.

Thanks so much for the info! Yep, I had the exact same issue when I let the screen timeout. In addition to fixing the dropbox indicator, I'll tackle this problem for the next update. In the meantime, if you manually hit the "lock screen" button, the recorder should stay active.
(PS: Sorry for the late response, was at a hackathon this weekend and didn't have much time to check the boards.)
No Problem. I'll try the lock screen.
Hmm like the idea ... any app like this for WM 6.5.x?
Love the look of this app, shame i use android...
Downloaded this yesterday. Recorded fine, but can't upload to DropBox. The app says it's logged in to DropBox OK. When uploading, the progress bar flashes up very briefly and nothing appears in DropBox. Checked in the DropBox site and Membrain is appearing as a fully authorised app. Any ideas?!?!
Could do with getting this file off the phone somehow :s

[Q] Always active screen with animation

Is there any app, watch face or any option to keep the screen always with the active mode?
I know it will use a lot of batery but i only want it when i am at a party or something similar when you want to call atention. Because at after a day of use i still have like 70%, so batery isnt a problem. if anyone know how to have something similar i would be very gratefull.
I searched all forums and googled it a lot and I am suprised that noone asked anywhere for this.. maybe I dont know how to google anymore
Try out the app called StayLit Wear. It allows you to keep the screen on for a certain time or forever until you set it back to the default timeout. Being able to keep the screen on is also available in Wear Mini Launcher. Note that keeping the screen on for a long time may cause your watch to get hot.
