read in another thread about people talking about national feelings and patriotism and the likes
i never really understod the concept at all
when the country i live in win at sports, win a war (been 1k years )
invent a timemachine break guiness record of standing on ones head
i really dont get how it should reflect on me for better or worse
i never contributed to any of it apart from being born a surden place
i fail to see how i could take pride in any of it
sure i vote and i agree and is happy about some aspects on the system of where i live but i'm 1 in 5million
i can only really take any pride in things I do myself
maybe it's kinda like religion with feeling strengh in feeling one is a part of something bigger then oneself
who knows
but in the grand sceme of things i believe that nationalism have caused more wars in the history then religion
where religion have just been used as an excuse alot more
Group Identity mate. It sucks. Same reason people go crazy over a stupid football team.
If people thought for themselves and had a little personal accountability this world would be very different.
I agree. people forget that our phsycology is also an artifact of evolution. after all, as a group we are very successful.
the culture here pays lip service to patriotism but it seems to me that in countries like America people genuinely feel that patriotism. Propogander/media must play a big roll in this behavior.
nothing wrong with patriotism. but it tends to go overboard. nationalism does cause conflict but it also gives people a sense of belonging.

my dad gave me a great sense of practicality. his philosophy is: there are really no losers in sports except the fan. both teams, both players on both sides are millionaires. when they lose a game they don't kill themselves. when the season is over they go home to a mansion. the only loser is the fan who thinks life is over after their team lost.
I couldn't possibly care less about these sort of games. This puts me in, I'd venture, less than 3% of the young male population of this country who can buy an Xbox or whatnot in the first place.
Discuss.
Homework or a public speaking competition? Sweet Idea, will post my arguments once others give me ideas

More like inciting a flame war. ^_^ j/k
I've never liked racing, shooting, or sports games, which I've found doesn't sit well with most men my age (22). Just wondering what fellow techies think.
Usually I get a "wow, I can't believe another human being has different tastes than me" response. I don't think I've ran into a "Wow you're so gay" response but it's only a matter of time. =/

Yep same. I'm different to everyone in my school. Everyones got iphoned, I got a Desire, now everyones jealous haha.. anyways, I like racing and shooting games. Just the real ones. CoD and GT not things like killzone or WoW. Though I don't play often, every 2–3 weeks maybe, I do enjoy some adrenalin pumping through my veins when I due just begore the end of the mussion. It makes me more determined to finish correctly the next time etc..
Everyones always asking me when I'm online next to play a bit of CoD or whatever and I just don't understand how you can become addicted to something that doesn't actually exist. Well it does but not really, you know what I mean : )

LOL been a gamer for too long. But I have never told anyone that they were "gay" because they didn't like to game.
But.. usually they were women.
well im different to everyone in my school.
most of the lads in my year like football and cod.
"medal of honor- is ****"
"driving games - ****"
"every other game apart from cod and fifa- is ****"
i have been called gay because i have long hair and i like rock music and drum and bass (and others).
i think the reason they call you gay is because they don't like people that are different and like other things.
about 1 year ago everyones phones where sony ericssons (crap ones)
and samsung tocco lites (horrible)
but 1 lad had a t-mobile g1.
i had my 7 year old htc himalaya brick (excellent phone)
now quite a few have htc's desires, hero, legend. (and obviously don't know about xda (what a pitty))
people seem to follow other people and call you weird because you are not following.
sorry if i drifted off topic.
i like driving games, fps (half-life excellent!!)
im a gran turismo guy i love that game, i also enjoy a nice helping of cod now and then too, i cant stand football soccer or basketball games though
COD - meh
FIFA - meh
GT5 - drool
Well, an explanation is warranted for the above...
I never really got the hang of FPS games in multiplayer, mostly because I used to pwn at CounterStrike and Half-Life, but a hiatus during my formative days (read, TEENAGE) lost my edge in FPS games. Mostly I will check out the single player experience, and if it gains enough traction amongst my friends, I'll get the original copy. Mostly, for group enjoyment purposes, we game L4D if we wanna play FPS. I'm just waiting for Crysis 2 (as an excuse to upgrade my Gfx card more than anything else )
FIFA... well... is a game for douchetards who imagine that they have the skills needed to take Leo Messi/CR to whatever glories that in real life they couldn't achieve (both for the gamers and the players). Simply said, it gives little to none benefits, and merely act as an escapement and commercial device. For the more serious guys, we play futsal, which is like football played in a netball field. Pacing is fun, especially since players with less stamina can join in and height doesn't bring that much of a benefit (read, GIRLS CAN PLAY TOO). And for the brainiacs, we play Football Manager 2011.
GT5 is going to be something of a old history for me. It's more of a nostalgia device than something of real enjoyment. Back in the days, me and my brother played GT1, GT2, GT3, and probably GT4. To my brother, who is an engineer by now, it is the most accurate depiction of a car on the race-track. I'll skip the nostalgia bit... Anyway, since neither of us own a PS3, and neither of us plans to own a PS3, this game will forever reside in the droolworthy section of our hindbrains, possibly forever.
The problem with me is I'm probably in the less than 0.05% zone. I'm a self-professed geek that likes to party and do sports. I could, enjoyably, spend the afternoon tinkering with my PC/phone or just dump everything to hang out with friends, chilling out and maybe finding the answers to life (we checked, its not 42).
So gaming is cool and all that, but it's not the be all and end all for me
Gotta say... I love GT5 lol. I think I like it more than GT3 or 4 because I'm actually trying now lol. I used to have a Game Shark, Code Breaker, and Action Replay to cheat my way to having (basically) infinite cash, the AI guys wouldn't move, and every car would have like 16x acceleration lol. It made it fun cause I could get what I wanted when I wanted, but ruined the sense of accomplishment needed to make it feel way better. I actually HAVE to try and succeed in this now, which is awesome imo.
Call of Duty is cool, but I'm not into it as much anymore as I am with GT5 now.
FIFA is a game I'll never play. I don't do sports, nor like them; especially soccer.

That is VERY cool and I didn't know that. Sucker as I am for new experiences, it makes me want to play it again with this knowledge.

Haha, I hope I'm reading your implications right: b/c size isn't an issue, women can play the sport side-by-side with men. The other implication would be a little... off-putting. >.<

Sorry I paraphrased your Quote
1) Nothing wrong with Long Hair and playing Bass. I did both for a long time - but now the hair fell out and I play a little guitar (i.e. it stares at me taunting me on the wall collecting dust due to RL stealing all my time)
2) Your unique... just like everybody else
3) Half Life is probably the BEST GAME EVER. And I'm a sucker for driving games. I haven't purchased GT yet as I know my wife would kill me while I was going around the track at 4am.
YOU DON'T LIKE THOSE GAMES!!! wow!!, i didn't know another human being could have such different taste to me.
But seriously 'normal' at my school is f'd up compared to everybody elses, screamo metalheads and emos rule the street and jocks are considered to be on the same level as the scum you find in public toilets... its a weird place.
Im lucky anyway because im a self admitted nerd at school but for some strange reason nobody believes me? (WTF's with that!?!) Which is especially strange considering people are paying me to set up snow leopard hackintosh on their pc's.
My favorite shooter is Gears o' War 2 (can't really call it fps), but, uh, what do you guys think of bioshock? I personally don't like it, much to the disdain of all my friends who are obsessed with it.

Wow, that is strange. At my school there was no "jock" contingency either, but why would there necessarily have to be, stereotypes are stereotypes.
What IS indeed common to probably every school ever are cliques. I'm guessing it's the 'us vs. them' mentality that's so crucial to so many living things.

I agree, Marquez worked Pacman over in that fight and got mugged off by the judges. This is another reason that boxing is dying, the fights are fixed. They did it to ensure a big money fight with Mayweather who must now be able to grow a pair, after seeing that fight, and take the fight with Pacman instead of ducking him.
On the other hand, Junior Dos Santos defeated Cain Velasquez decisively via TKO in the first round to win the UFC heavyweight title whilst carrying a torn meniscus. Whilst there were a few weird judging scores at the UFC event it didn't end up robbing the true winner of the fights as the other judges got it right.
Off-topic please.

I'm going to have to disagree and i think that's the point
These judges have a different criteria for judging. Fight itself was close, very close. I gave most of the rounds to Marquez in the first half and most of the rounds to Pacquiao in the second half. I really think it was Marquez that lost the fight by letting off towards the end. If he felt that he got robbed in the first two fights (which i agree that second fight should have been a draw), he should have made sure that this didn't happen for the third time.
Now in terms of judging criteria, there really isn't a standard and this is the same issue that MMA faces where some judges favor attackers based on aggressiveness, controlling the flow of the fight (meaning the action is initiated by this person) and actual number of punches landed (punch stats showed just that)
MMA judging is even worse since they have added elements of submission, takedowns, etc. Making it even harder to figure out what each judge "favors"
Don't tell me about how awful MMA judging is mate. I saw a judges card after a fight and he had me losing even though I battered the guy the whole first round, good thing I KO'ed him in the 2nd. He had the guy winning the round because I slipped throwing a headkick and my opponent ended up in my guard for all of 30 seconds or so and landed a single punch to my chest so he scored it 10 - 9 for my opponent.
I've had training partners losing via very dodgy judging on more than one occasion as well so I'm acutely aware of the problems with uneducated people judging mma bouts.
edit: I was commenting on the judging for this particular UFC event and not MMA on a whole in my previous post.

Cool story. You are my hero.
It was a close fight as these two are made for each other. Marquez did exactly what he said he was not going to do and that is leave it to the judges.
Both him and pacquiao were way too conservative.

The purpose of this thread is to both provide others with ideas of what to watch and perhaps build interest in shows that you may have not previously considered.
List (in your own words):
The shows that you are currently watching
What the are about
Why you like them
Black Mirror (Contains profanity)
About: A dystopian future drama/sci-fi series in which humanity has become enslaved in itself. Each episode is basically it's own show and has some sort of bizarre twist.
Why I like it: It's bizarre, you don't really know the twist until the end and it is a fresh take at TV. Nothing is outside the realm of possibility on this show. (Netflix is renewing this one)
The Transporter (Contains nudity)
About: Based on the movies, it a series of mini-stories of Frank's life as the transporter
Why I like it While it isn't the same actor as the movie (Jason Statham), it is entertaining never the less. It's a bit cheesy but the plot lines are interesting and the special effects aren't bad.
X-Files
About: Mystery stories about the bizarre and aliens.
Why I like it: Really really cheesy by todays standards but its nostalgia.
Hemlock Grove (Contains profanity)
About: To be honest I have no fricken clue but see below
Why I like it It has a bizarre feel to it, almost like American Horror story'ish but better
LillyHammer (Contains profanity & Nudity)
About: A comedy mob story about a mobster who goes into hiding in Norway and tries to live a quite life but don't go as planned.
Why I like it It's got Steven Van Zandt from the Sopranos and it is just a funny awkward humors show.
Marco Polo (Contains profanity & Nudity)
About: Netflix's verison of Game of Thrones but taking place in Asia. That about sums it up.
Why I like it It's a different take on Game of Thrones (which I have never seen because I don't have HBO)
Orange is the New Black (Contains profanity & Nudity)
About: A girl who made all the right choices to live the high life find that they were wrong once she's grown up. Goes to prison and learns that life is very different.
Why I like it It's interesting to see how different interaction is on the inside and the characters she encounters. Crazy Eyes is hilarious too.
House of Cards
I just binge watched all 3 seasons of House of Cards this Labor Day weekend. It was pretty good and I recommend it. Political drama with scandals, getting ahead, etc etc
Very reflective of our current political scene with the lack of ethics etc, but holds your attention with amazing acting, especially by Kevin Spacey who was an awesome actor in his own right before the show.
Definitely recommend, and you can get all 3 seasons on Netflix, with season 4 coming in 2016 (filming now)
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
This show is funny as hell. And not that lame humor you see in most shows like Big Bang Theory and Friends etc (no offense if you like those shows) but more subtle and "intelligent" humor, somewhat like 30 Rock but even a bit different and better I think.
The plot doesn't matter too much, but it's some girl who was in a bunker for years while some dude had them in there because they thought the end of the world happened, then she comes out to see the world etc, but it's really funny and definitely recommended. Season 1 is on Netflix to binge watch, season 2 coming in 2016.
__________________________________________________
Both shows I mention are actually owned by Netflix, who in my opinion has hit home runs with their original broadcasting.
@SyCoREAPER - you've got me interested in Black Mirror now, never even heard of it and have been looking for a new binge watching show to compliment my Sunday NFL couch sitting!
I watch very little TV, I will go a month without watching literally anything then spend 3 days literally do nothing but binge watching a show, so these Netflix shows are really good for that purpose.

Best forum everrrrr... but I did vote for instagram too haha
XDA all the way! Cheers
Microsoft Teams
Facebook strictly for business and Reddit as my guilty pleasure!
Instagram and Telegram
does youtube count as social media??i get all my info there
I only like this forum, no cringe and toxicity.
pocketnet. No censore or moderation(used like\dislike control). No passport\phone NSA and FBI control. Not darknet and not have blood\guns content. It is a center real opposition of Russia and USA.
In general, I rarely use social networks. I think it's just a way to do nothing. It is better to really do useful things that will help increase income.
Places like facebook and twitter are cesspools - I did my time, honorific and horrific, GOT-damn. Beats the hell out of me why people choose to be part of either. I mean, mf's are sitting in their hovels talking to themselves through a keyboard, actively engaged in it - and they broadcast that sh*t so the machine in front of them can show them pretty colors and words from ghosts that
don't
mean
a
fu*&ing
thing.
And people say we are angry now, and depressed, and all manner of whatnot.
Well, no shi&t, **** tracy, look what we put stock in, look how we just raised a generation and what we're doing to the next one..... GTF off my lawn!
Giggity
If you're gonna be somewhere on line, oof, forums take care of themselves as they are much more akin socially to the playground, which is righteous and true. They are not instant and immediate gratification, because that's not even real, though people want it so badly. There's shame in forums, high-fives, no fake empty bullsh*t for points - there's cultivation and camaraderie built without all that gross distraction and fuc*(ng facebook moms, or your 9 year old cousin who's pissed at you because you're not 'friends' WTF people. And you know you're at a forum, you do your thing and beat it and you don't take it with you because little jessica didn't like how your tie looked today.
Talk about weak sauce.
What excites you about social media, if anything?
Well, that's a tough one. I actually have a specific opinion regarding social media networks. The one I hate the most has to be Facebook, for sure. But my favorite one is a bit tougher. I would say that I spend the most time in Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit, though I see Reddit as something more than a simple social media network.
Twitter and this forum
Quora lately, I dig it because I pick all the subjects I actually know about and people respond. It's more personal than Reddit, or Facebook. You get replies directly to your notifications and your in control of who sees what you wrote plus it is not just you answering topics you have knowledge about, asking questions is just as helpful. I think if more people from here participate it would quickly become top of the pop.
XDA is best lol
