Connection trouble with BB Connect on HTC FUZE - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

I installed BB Connect .106 onto my HTC FUZE and actually got it working, new PIN, IP address, everything seemed fine.
BUT. . .
I found that I could not connect to the internet or get emails, even though the connection settings clearly showed me as being connected to Media Net.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a workable solution? FWIW, I do acually have a Blackberry plan (BIS) in use with my Bold, but I would like to have the option to switch between the devices as I wish.a

What, no one??? No one at all???

I am using about the same config as you, but all is working fine here. Keep in mind:
1. You have to set up a correct connection (APN) for all internet traffic but BBC (which uses its own non-configurable APN)
2. When you click on an internet link in a Blackberry message, your browser tries to use the BBC set APN to get the page.
3. When you browse to an URL in IE or Opera your browser tries to use the (self set) internet conection APN.
Maybe this helps you solve your problem.

Thanks for the reply. When I have more time to experiment I'll check it out.

BlackBerry Connect w/ Kaiser

Hello all. I have successfully installed BB Connect 4.0.84 on my Kaiser and it is up and running...both my BES and BIS accounts. Fairly smooth.
Question - whenever I suff the Internet or update my RSS feeds with Insight, it kicks the BB Connect "off" (disconnects) and uses MediaNet. Then I have to go in and "force" BB Connect back on. A bit of a PITA. I have an unlimited BES plan from AT&T...do I need to set the Connection types to be something else now for these other programs that need to access the Internet?
Any help you could provide with you greatly appreciated.
Thanks!,
Adam
yes go into the connection settings. then go to advanced and select networks and set both to My Isp or which ever one your BES\BIS connects to.
There is a new one now (not just MediaNet) tha is called "My Blackberry" but when I select that one none of the other Apps connect to the internet. Once when I select MediaNet do they connect. They actualyl disconnect the BBerry, connect themselves, and then a bit later the BBerry appears to re-connect on its own....so this may work out to be ok.
Thanks - much appreciated.
welp sorry to say bud thats how that is going to work then... BES must use its own network settings and the MediaNet for internet uses another sorry your stuck unless entering in the settings for wap.cingular by hand and not using MediaNet work for BBC
I too have BB Connect installed on my Kaiser. I am able to get emails successfully over Blackberry and gmail. However, I cannot use Internet explorer over MediaNet. GoogleMaps, the weather plugin, QuickGPS, etc can all get the data they need when connected through MediaNET but IE will not load any webpages.
Any thoughts on how to fix this? There are no options to config connections within IE and the connection within settings seems to be correct (how else would the other applications be able to use MediaNET?).
Note:
I can launch BIS for internet explorer and use the Blackberry connection instead of MediaNET. Obviously though this is not optimal as BIS has lmited sites, low res pictures, etc.
This is not really in the right forum. THere are a couple of BBC threads in the other Kaiser forum that address your question directly. Go there and search for blackberry. You'll find them.
issue kaiser w/ bbconnect
Hello,
I have a kaiser and the bbconnect installed on it but when I want to activate it, all my today plugins disappear and I can't find them in the today setup anymore.
Does anyone have an idea?
I'm in France but I don't think the issue comes from that.
I need it for my job and at the moment i'm totally held so please help me if you can.
Thanks in advance

BBConnect uses the blackberry.net APN. Media Net (which is used for all other internet connectivity on your phone) uses wap.cingular or isp.cingular APN. You can only be connected to 1 at a time. So, if you use IE, or any other non-blackberry prog that needs internet access, it will drop the blackberry.net connection and establish a connection via Media Net, severing your BB connection. Once you close the other app, and BBconnect tries to connect, it will close the MN connection and re-establish the Blackberry.net connection.
Bottom line: you can only be connected to blackberry.net OR Media Net at any given moment. Minro inconvenience, but that'a the way it is.
Thanks Jomo25 - much appreciated. On another note, I noticed that having BBConnect installed has slowed the device down noticably. Someone else mentioned seeing this in the forum - I was wondering if anyone has come up with some tweaks to help speed thsi back up. The device was 'screamin' pre-BBConnect....now it is more "normal" and not so exciting.
Thanks!
The slowdown is especially noticable when you go to the settings menu. The first time it can take up to 10 seconds to show up after selecting settings off the main menu. Then getting to the connections tab is almost as slow. It is faster after that initial time. This happened right after loading BBC.

Are there some proxy settings I need to change or fix? I was able to browse the internet with IE via wireless lan or medianet perfectly fine before BB Connect was configured.

No Need To Post Twice!
sorry
soory for posting twice but i didn't know if both of the threads were read or just one of them for any reason.
So sorry again.
I just need some help because i'm really lost with this issue
Thanks in advance
I am also having the same problem that xklipschx is having with BB Connect and IE. I have both network settings on MediaNet. When I manually suspend the BB connection, I still cannot get the browser to work. I am so frustrated I am considering dropping the BB Connect and just pull my emails.

Cannot connect to Slingbox on AT&T

This is the most appropriate location I could find to post this, as I have three HTC devices (8525, TyTN 2, and Advantage) so I thought I would start here.
Issue:
I can no longer connect to my Slingbox on my home network when using my MediaNet (wap.cingular) connection on the TyTN 2 or the Advantage.
Error Message: Cannot connect using these settings. But email and web work from the MediaNet settings, so I am fairly certain the configuration is correct.
Facts:
- The connection works over Wifi on either HTC device, so I know my Slingplayer Mobile settings (Finder ID, etc.) are correct.
- The connection works using a Verzion Motorola Q. My corporate VPN connection also does not work with AT&T, but does on the Q through Verzion.
Conclusion:
AT&T has (or did) make changes to the proxy used which prevents services running on certain ports from working correctly.
Question:
Is anyone else having problems connecting to their Slingbox? If you can connect, what settings are you using?
Additionally, could someone please explain the differences between the wap.cingular and isp.cingular settings? Do you have to use isp.cingular to get VPN and other advanced services to work? If so, what is the minimum data plan you must subscribe to with AT&T to be able to do so?
Thanks in advance,
Rob
I cant say why you are having issues. My Slingbox connection works fine (actually much better than fine) via my Kaiser on AT&T with MediaNet. It works better than it ever did with my 8525. I do notice that I do have 2 separate Connections, one for MEdiaNet and the other called "My ISP" which both point to the same wap.cingular APN. Not sure why I have 2, but everything works fine. The MediaNet one is "hidden" and I can't change it. The My ISP one is visible, but I don't want to delete it since everything seems to work fine. It just switches between them (albeit unnecessarily) to make things work when needed.
Furthermore, I am using wap.cingular exclusively. If you do connect to a VPN, you must use isp.cingular. The normal MediaMax, MediaNet and smartphone plans give you wap.cingular. The PDA plans give you isp.cingular. Blackberry plans may give you neither (they go to blackberry.net).
Thanks
Can I ask what port # you are using for your Slingbox? I am using 5001 for one of mine. Did you have to make a rule entry in your router or firewall? I am just trying to determine why suddenly I cannot connect. I am going to pop my SIM card back into my 8525 when I get home and check it again. The last time I tried it on the 8525 it worked. The trouble is, there aren't a lot of changes to make. it's pretty much wap.cingular and the password.
Thanks, and if you think of anything else, please let me know.
Rob
my slingbox works just fine on att. WHen i had the isp.cingular it did not. i had to change it to wap.cingular to get it to work.
Hmmm, don't know th eport off hand, but I want to say i'm justusing the default.
Did you upgrade to the new Slingbox firmware the past couple of days?
I did and could not connect. I called Slingmedia and they told me they had some issus with the new firmware and UpnP settngs in some routers.
I had to go into the Slingbox settings on the desktop PC and manually open the port in the router. If you call them they will take you step by sep
I had the same problem it took me 10 hrs to finally find the answer. It has nothing to do with your port your finder ID at all. like the a previous stated you need to use a different connection setting to use slingbox. Use or create the my isp connection. the only difference is one use proxy settings and one does not. to be honest i just deleted the media net profile and used my isp exclusively. the only problem is medianet keeps showing up in my connection settings. the medianet setting can also screw with push email retrieval
Thanks so much NJXBEAN! I could NOT get Slingplayer to connect until I made that change in the modem settings. It works great now!

Proxy was blocking me...
After experimenting with mine further, I was FINALLY able to connect by unchecking the "use proxy server" setting on my unlocked Kaiser. I wonder if the AT&T "Tilt" build of the OS will even allow this?
AT&T Tilt and Slingbox
Right out of the box, Slingplayer worked on my Tilt. I made no changes to the proxy settings.
I have the media net unlimited plan.
It could be a firewall issue. If the connection you have is listed as "Connects to the Internet" it'll block some ports. If you have Connects to Work, it'll open all ports.
I just just want to say that you guys are great! I had a problem with sling, researched on it here, and found the problem without asking..People, u gotta love it!!!!!!

have you found a fix, i have the x7500 and my slingbox worked fine at first then after a couple of months it just stopped and i could not receive email either, i found a workaround for the email but i have not found a work around for the slingbox.
P.S. i recored myself talking to an at&t rep you should listen to what he says

Found a Fix
It cannot connect to isp.cingular, you need to ADD wap.cingular apn to your network settings.

If you just make your default connection Media Net it's already going to be set for wap.cingular
isp.cingular is the default only if you have it set to use ATT ISP as your connection.
Wow, I want slingbox now. I didn't even think of it working on my Tilt....is the data transfer extreme????????

SlingPlayer problems?

Hi all, I have a weird problem.
I have a tilt and am using the HTC rom, I connect to wifi in my apartment and 3G or HSDPA when I leave the apartment.
When I'm connected through wifi, my Slingplayer works flawlessly, finds my slingbox, and plays the video. When I try to connect outside using 3G/HSDPA, I get "Cannot connect with current connection settings"
I know the Slingbox is working correctly because I can connect to it through a desktop PC without a problem, and I know that the 3G works fine on my tilt because I have no problem loading websites, using mundi, etc.
Any ideas? I've seen a couple other posts on other forums with the same problem but there were no responses on them.
Thanks!
Can you connect to anything else when on 3G?
Try your proxy settings
Did you change the default ports on the SlingBox config?
Are those ports (default or modified) open from the outside of your firewall/router?
If you have the ability to monitor inbound connections try monitoring while you connect through 3G and see if your device attempts on the correct port and that it is NATed to the correct IP and port.
Raptor
I had exactly the same problem with my Belkin router. You need to set up a port on your router in order for it to work. I know on mine it involved setting up a virtual server.
I am using the TyTN II and I am having the same exact problems. I think AT&T killed access to slingbox somehow. I can surf the internet just fine, and then as soon as I start the slingplayer, my connection gets lost and my phone says "cannot sonnect with current connection settings." Any help would be appreciated, especially with the World Series coming up this week.

Possibly a silly point but can you definitely connect over the internet to it? Or just over your LAN?
There's a wizard that enables the port forwarding for you - (called Remote Viewing or something?) should be with the software for the slingbox.
Could be that your desktop is just going direct over the LAN?
Also, I had problems when I was just using the automatic settings to configure the box - in the end it works far better if you ignore the UPnP stuff, and use the manual setup process (or so I found). Again, the desktop software wizard steps you through this.
If you can connect over wifi at home, but not over wifi or 3g when away, then unless AT&T are blocking the ports, its more likely your router settings, as at home you are inside your LAN but elsewhere you have to go through your routers hardware firewall.
Just have a look at slingbox's help files.
SlingBox works fine on AT&T. Check your proxy settings on the phone. Try the "remove hidden proxy" cab. The home router also needs an outgoing port defined as well. Good Luck, I know it can work.
I will bet that it's your router/firewall blocking the incoming net traffic. Try connecting to it from a Friend's internet connection or a public computer at the library or something.
Had a similar problem with slingplayer mobile on my new HTC TouchPro- phone from Vodafone but I put in my T-mobile SIM as I wanted to keep the Web and walk.
Slingplayer worked fine from Vario3 with same sim but not from TouchPro. Eventually unticked the use proxy server in the connection settings and it started to work. Weird, as on the Vario the proxy box is ticked and it works.
Anyway, worth trying if anyone else is having problems.
One of two things, either you have not port fowarded your router to allow the Slingbox to be remotly viewed, go to portfoward.com for exact instructions for your specific router, or your hidden proxy is messing with it. More than likley its not port fowarded correctly. BTW...when your in your home network, i.e... using WiFi, it will work without the router being fwded because your slingbox is already inside your home network. When coming from the outside of your home network through 3g or whatever your router has to allow access to the slingbox.

Help with internet sharing/tethering on Vista

OK so I thought I was halfway intelligent about all this but apparently not. I can't seem to get my internet sharing to allow me to tether on my new Tilt. I had it working fine on my Sprint Mogul so I know theoretically how to do it. I have the stock AT&T ROM (allowed customizations; just lazy about figuring out what I'd need of the customizations so I live with the bloat).
I created a shortcut for IntShrUI.exe in my \windows\start menu\programs folder to start the internet shar. I start Internet sharing and select USB and AT&T ISP GPRS (or MEdia Net; same result). It says connected and doesn't give me any errors but I can't seem to connect to anything from my PC or even ping anything. I'm using a Windows Vista PC. While internet sharing is connected I can connect to the web on the phone itself but not from the PC.
I was originally on "PDA Personal Max UNL + 1500 Messages" but I couldn't seem to connect to ISP.CINGULAR and I thought maybe that's why I couldn't tether (and I thought it'd probably prevent me from connecting to my corporate VPN). So I called in and the tech guy said that plan isn't provisioned for ISP.CINGULAR so he switched me to the "older" (his words) PDACnctUntlAdd which is the same price and includes ISP.CINGULAR but not 1500 messages. In hindsight I'm guessing that's not my problem (especially since it didn't fix it) and I'll prob go back to PDA Personal Max with the 1500 messages once I figure out the tethering and assuming it allows me to VPN.
My settings are:
AT&T ISP GPRS
Modem:
APN: isp.cingular
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1 (doesn't show it but found that online)
Domain: blank
Advanced Settings:
TCP/IP: Use server-assigned IP Address
Use software compression: not checked
Use IP header compression: not checked
Servers: User server-assigned IP Address
Proxy Settings:

MEdia Net
Modem:

Username: [email protected]
Password: ????? (doesn't show it and never looked for online)

TCP/IP: Use server-assigned IP Address
Use software compression: not checked
Use IP header compression: not checked
Servers: User server-assigned IP Address
Proxy Settings:
This network connects to the Internet: checked
This networks uses a proxy....: not checked
I've tried to do it with the proxy disabled (running Disable Proxy from programs) and with it enabled with the same result.
So what can I be doing wrong? I'm sure it's something supremely stupid (if it's not a provisioning problem but how could it be that?) but I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Any help greatly appreciated and let me know if there's anything else you'd need to know to get this working.

So your device says connected (and can surf the web) but your laptop wont connect?
So is your laptops firewall blocking the network?
Have you tried it over bluetooth, and use the BT PAN option. Select BT in ICS and click connect, and click YES to allow it to be discoverable, then in Vista, click start, connect to, Then click Set up a network or connection. Then scroll down to the bottom option (BT PAN). Click it and it will offer your device's BT PAN, select that and click connect.
Wait for 30 seconds, then open the web.
Solution from ATT-Connect your Laptop/PDA
Here ya go! Tried it myself with the usb. Workin good-ATT has a comm manager app that installs on the laptop.
Here's the link to the ATT support for it.

Thanks for your help; hadn't thought of turning off firewall since it worked with the mogul without doing that. Tried that and it didn't work. Then tried with bluetooth and that didn't work either. Didn't want to use the ATT comm manager on the off chance that they could track tethering usage on it.
And of course it was a stupid thing not to check but something made me try connecting to an IP address and not a URL and BAM! it worked. So I guess I have a DNS problem and not a connection problem.
So now anyone have an idea why the laptop can't resolve DNS but the Tilt can? Should I manually set free public DNS servers on the Tilt? Or on the laptop?
Vista you said? correct?
Try making the network that Vista sees when you connect-private; if it's public,it'll block stuff
Yeah, it's already set to private. Still no DNS resolution. I'm going to try using a free public DNS server on the PC. Strange that the Tilt isn't passing thru DNS for me but it seems it is for everyone else.
Well using the free DNS servers (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) seems to work now and it even seems to resolve DNS faster. I feel better that I figured out how to get it to work but I'm definitely confused as to why it doesn't work by default like it does for everyone else.
get tethering working yet?
hi,
i have the same issue. have unlimited data plan on my tilt. no problem with connection on my tilt (although i did not put in all that proxy setting crap att asks you to put in).
anyhow
- installed the htc modem driver on my laptop.
- turned on the modem on the tilt
- created a new dialup connection on my xp laptop
---> question here, what is the "phone number" that should be dialed???
--> for [email protected], password is CINGULAR1 also
as a last resort i will try using the att comm manager, but like you i don't really want to do it due to any tracking att may be doing...
would be great to hear if loading that local dns resolves your problem, altho it seems kinda clugey (sp?)
lol-
ya'all kill me.
Anything at all, including data; going through any major network in the U.S., is tracked- period. Cell calls, data, internet connections, and even landline calls are ALL tracked in the U.S. now. Thanks to the current administration, EVERYTHING is tracked.
Alemaker
I meant tracked in terms of tethered vs non-tethered (not being on a tethered plan; but then I tether about once a month when travelling in airports if that so I'm not worried about it). I know big brother is always watching (especially on AT&T):
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Story?id=3833172&page=1
@jprai I did get tethering working by just changing my DNS settings on the laptop to free servers. I'm not using wireless modem but the Internet Sharing app on the PocketPC (go to \Windows and copy the shortcut "internet sharing.lnk" to your \Windows\Start Menu\Programs directory and then you'll be able to start the app easily). It's much easier to use (well now that the DNS issue was figured out).
I'm still very curious why DNS isn't working for me with the default settings and it does for everyone else but I'm OK with this work-around for the time being.

This did the trick for me, thanks!
For those not fully aware of how to do this, connect your phone with ICS, go to network connections (control panel->network and sharing center->manage network connections), right click on the phone's connection (hover over them if you're not sure about which is which... mine said NDIS something or other), go to properties, click on TCP/IPv4, go to properties, and then give it the DNS addresses listed above.
Thanks!
