[Request] Japanese Text Support - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hello everyone!
As the title indicates, I'm trying to get Japanese text support on my HD but I'm hitting a few snags.
I've managed to get partial support following instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445550
Opera can correctly display Japanese characters now.
But my main issue is Outlook. It refuses to show Japanese text in emails. It replaces it with loads of funny symbols...
I'm using Dutty's 2.3 Xtreme by the way.
I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter!

do not use the dutty 2.3,new RHODIUM didnt support non western code well
just use dutty 2.1
you can solve the problem

Okay, after installing Dutty's 2.1, what sofware(s) would you recommend to get Japanese text support? Freeware would be preferable... ^^'
Also, I just thought I'd mention this: after installing "Lets Japan no 6" I managed to get almost full Japanese support with Dutty's 2.3X. But this also seemed to cause some very strange bugs while typing normal western text...
Thanks,
WmH

you can use this one

it works very well for me

Chinese Input, Dictionary, Calendar, Date & Time on Kaiser?

Sorry if i post at the wrong threads.
I'm interested in this htc kaiser at the first glance on it...
However i do have concern whether this device is can solve my need or not.
Most of the time i need somekind of mobile device that can help me on resolving the Chinese matter, Organizer, etc. With this device, i hope i can replace my mobile phone also.
Though pda phone, smartphone, pocket pc has been in the market for years. I'm not familiar with the technology yet.
Maybe i have been asking too much that i even dream i can just write the chinese word using the touch technology, rather than typing the pinyin.
So the question are:
Will this device (more on wm6) have both traditional and simplified chinese input similiar to windows xp?
Is there a traditional and simplified chinese dictionary software for this device?
Is there a chinese lunar calendar organizer software for this device?
Can it show the chinese lunar date & time besides normal universal date & time at the first screen?
I'm having the same kind of question.
I want to edit (or import) my own chinese dictionary table? How is it possible?
I bet you guys never used a Pocket PC or Windows Mobile before, don't you?
There is NO multilingual version of WM ever released. If it's a Eng version, there's only Eng input methods. If it's Chi, then you got very basic Eng input method plus Chi input methods including handwriting regconition.
However, that doesn't mean that you can't change the rom you are using, nor does that mean that you can't use some Chi add on software like CE-star or Monster.
haha... oh... you got me...
does those software come with dictionary to english and vice versa?
how about the lunar calendar, is there any software that you guys happened to know?
what do you means by changing the rom?
perhaps you can take a look on pdaviet.net

That depends very much on OEM. I know dopod china once bundled dictionary programs for their devices. But even if it don't come with one, you can install one yourself.

I know there's free lunar calendar program out there. Also, there's also a free today plugin for lunar calendar too. But I never used it and can't spell their names... You may want to try the developement forum.

By changing, I mean flasing the rom in other language, if one is available - of course that depends on quite a few things including if the vendor has locked your machine (CID locked) or if any free unlocker available, etc..
Thanks... thanks for the info...
Try CE-Star or Monster Chinese. These are add-ons to enable Chinese for non-Chinese Windows Devices.
Got it.
Thanks
I cannot recommend CE-Star nor Monster Chinese as they have a lot of problems working with Windows Mobile 6.
Because of that I am still looking for a working solution to be able to view and input Simplified Chinese on my UK Kaiser.
Anyone?

I have to come back to my previous post as I have been testing the latest CE-Star software (v2.8R3A) which I downloaded from the PxDxA from a user named Leies and so far it seems to be working rather nicely.
I uploaded the files to the following directory: CE-Star v2.8R3A
Right now only the Simplified Chinese base pack is uploaded but I'll add the traditional Chinese and other input menu's later on today.
I personally used the following files and can confirm that so far they seem to be working
- System_GBKC.cab
- Pinyin.cab
- Penpower_GBK.cab
- Crack_R3a.cab
First install the "System_GBKC.cab and do not reboot, then install the Pinyin.cab and Penpower_GBK.cab.
After that you must go to Start -> Programs -> CE-Star and run "install" and reboot after that.
After the reboot you can (must?) run "Crack_R3a.cab" and everything will work fine.
I suppose you can add the other input systems like "Jianyi.cab" and "ChaJei.cab" and also the Traditional Chinese base pack in the same way.

Best Chinese dictionaries
Guys, in terms of dictionaries for the Kaiser, have a look at Pleco Dict from Pleco Software. I have been learning Mandarin for a few years and found this piece of dictionary software the best, by miles. It has a huge range of functions and a good selction of dictioniaries.
I've run the current version on my MDA Pro, but note that there is a new version imminent and this includes Chinese-Chinese dictionaries. So for native speakers who might not use the language learning aspects of the current programme, the coming version will offer even more.
try this

it works for my prophet
Hi Tr1gg3R,
I tried your link and not able to get the files. I have tried Monster Chinese on my AT&T Tilt (HTC 8925 or Tynt II) and yes it creates hell of issues such as:
1. Instant Messaging problem originally came with phone won't work (blank white screen now can't select AIM / MSN / Yahoo Messager to sign on)
2. Any / ALL Java applications won't work.
3. Most settings / menus now in Chinese without way to switch to English such as Google Maps
Uninstalling fixed all. I did eninstalled and they all function again.
I would like to try your CE-Star but the link you had is not doing anything. Help? Thanks.
Vindi
Maybe you folks can try my rom. WWE w/ Chinese i (hand written)/o support.

is there a way to just display traditional chinese??
i dont need to input i just want it to show chinese instead of boxes when i put chinese songs on my phone or viewing webpages
Chinese
I have found a program that seems to work nicely with WM6.1 I have a tilt and it works fine. It does not allow for you to imput chinese other than simple, but it will allow you to read chinese. Also I use DR Eye 2.0 dictionary it slows my system down a little bit, but I really need to have some english to chinese dictionary. I do not know how to upload files but if you want them just send me a PM.
Chinese
I have uploaded the files to my 4shared account the link is. This is where you will find the cab file. I have tested this on most 6.1 roms ans seem to have no real lag or probles, but I only use my PDA for simple apps. If you have any problems let me know. Have fun Flashing

Is stable Korean support available?

I'm probably not supposed to start a new thread for this, but I've tried googling and haven't found a viable solution.
Does anyone know of anything that will give me stable Korean support for my TyTN II? I just need the phone to be able to read Korean, don't need writing support. Preferably free.
When I searched the forums, the solutions available all cause a clash with WM6.1 somewhere, for example, Asukal's Korean support either cause the dialer to malfunction and freeze the phone, or it kills Windows Live.
Diopen costs money, and is overkill for what I want. I have no need for writing in Korean. For some reason, it also clashes with Spb PocketPlus. After installing the trial, it would work for a couple of resets, and then cause the phone to be unable to boot.
Note: I'm using Dutty's WM6.1 dated 06 March, 08 and have tried to couple it with each of the three original 6.1 radios.
yes i am also looking for something like this
Korean support
I'm also looking to be able to view Korean.
I found this today about viewing Chinese. I wonder if it's possible to take the same approach for Korean:
I'm not sure about chinese input on smartphones, but here is how to view chinese/asian characters:
1. Find your favorite chinese truetype font and copy it to \windows\. I use mUniFontM and will use it in my examples.
2. Add the following registry string values:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\FontPath\FontPath=\Windows
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink\Segoe Condensed=\Windows\mUniFontM.ttf,mUniFontM
3. Restart.
You'll find a ton of posts on the net about how to do this but they may reference Arial, Times New Roman, etc. The new trick is that for wm6 standard (smartphone), it now uses the font 'Segoe Condensed' so those references to the other fonts will not work on wm6 standard.

I think this is the same method as used by one of Asukal's cabs for Korean reading support.
HangleNo5 replaces the system font, but that causes Windows Live to stop connecting. At least, that's what happens when I try it on my TyTN II.
Why not try diopen 6.0
they give u a few days to try out before it stops working on you. But its only 20bucks for the program.
And it works good. Tried it on my tilt.
Well, as I mentioned in the first post, I'm just looking for the ability to view Korean. Using Diopen is overkill, as it also installs writing support.
But it doesn't matter now, I'm using Asukal's korechithai cab, and it works fine after some experimenting.
I just have to install CE-Star first, and then use CE Star's keyboard, instead of the OEM one. Otherwise, the dialler goes crazy, and using the OEM keyboard always gives me pinyin/romaji.

T9 Word Suggestion Oddity

Hi all, I've been unable to find a solution to this strange and irritating problem...all I have managed to find is this post describing the same thing.
Basically the phone will suggest words incorrectly and not show the real word you actually want. If you delete it and type the same again though it'll appear as normal. This occurs using both the Phone Keypad and Compact Qwerty.
Secondly the first word in the suggested list is a nonsense word every time though it is at least not selected.
e.g. typing hello on the Phone Keypad displays "gdjjm" before hello or "gello" using the Compact Qwerty.
I first encountered this after installing Dutty's latest ROM even though the change log for that says it's fixed. Today though I installed CT's latest ROM instead which initially had fixed the problem, however suddenly it is back just the same as before. If anyone has any idea what's causing this, or more importantly how to fix it, it'd be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mik
Anyone got any ideas?
Ive got the exact same problem. Quite annoying.
Im also on dutty's V4.
For example for me, i press 8 then 4 then 3 (to get the word "the") and it will produce something like "vif", which obviously isnt a word, i will delete the three characters and repress 8,4,3 and i will get the word "the" with other alternative suggestions. Happens only sometimes, and i think ive pressed a wrong button, but when i work out the letters, i know ive pressed it correctly.
Any help would be great (maybe this should be posted into dutty's thread)

Im also using dutty v4, and i get stuff like that happening all of the time.
for eg, i type "res" for "rest" and the suggestions are: "residents, bisho" , "Research" , "result" , "rest"
another, if i type "arg" for "argue" the first suggestion is "argumentation" then "argumentative" then "arguement" and there is no argue!!
i mean WTF is residents, bisho? i have never added that to my dictionary in my life!
Someone at Micro**** neads to learn how to spell, or optimize the way the dictionary is utilised.
It is funny, when i had a hermes, it came with windows mobile 5 and there was no problems there!
anyone know how to fix this?
I have the exact same "problem".
I'm not on dutty's, but am using CT's Version 6.4 HD now (used a few other versions of him too) and the problem occurs in all these versions.. Even the original ROM had this problem in my case.
It can be a little annoying so I hope there is a solution for this..

If you add "argue" to your wordlist, it will appear as the first word in the future, it's the best solution at this time imo, but i totally agree with you that a word like "argue" should be in the dictionairy by default.

Just before typing this i have just send my friend the following
"you seduction to come to my place...."
when i was wanting to say "you sed to come to my place...."
i know im abbreviating said to sed, but shurely there is something else in the english language between sed.......&.......seduction!
I've had this on both Duty's and CT's latest ROMs so I wonder if the problem lies with the standard ROM on which they're based?
It's becomming very annoying to write messages as I'm having to type half my words out twice so it finds the right one! Can anyone help in any way?
maybe there is a solution to this problem

I am from Romania (Europe) and I needed a romanianT9 so I installed the EzInput keyboard from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426281. But I also noticed that I don't have the described problem with the english T9 even if I also use Dutt's v4. I'm not sure if I had this problem before installing EzInput (because I didn't use english T9) but I guess that you guys should give it a try. Here is what you need:
later edit: I've just noticed that the Dutty's v4. already had the EzInput! Anyhow, it might work if you install the latest version of EzInput (wich I attached here).
And another thing crosses my mind: is it possible that the former version of EzInput (wich is included in the Dutty's v4 release) is actually the reason for all these strange behaviour?
cant install, but the uk t9cab did?

I would agree with the fact that it is ezinput causing the issue, can you post a link to the thread instead of the CAB.

Thai Version of TD2

Hi I want to buy a Touch Diamond 2 for brother in law who is Thai. He wants version that has Thai language.
Does anyone know which region version I should buy.
Normally, there is no any ROM that has Thai!
For Thai ROM is developed by Thai's web forum calls PDAMOBIZ.COM
But, it is still no ROM for Topaz, due to it very new.
However, if your brother in law can use english menu, there are some Thai company that sell Thai software calls ThaiWinCE and Thai-g (for me, now I recomended ThaiWinCE).
That you can buy from them via there homepage.
In the software, there will give you Thai input Keyboard, Thai Regional setting and make your WM phone able to read Thai.

There is also something called korechithai.cab that install thai fonts (and other south-eastern fonts I think) and basic WinMo thai input keyboard (to be used with a stylus, but it is better than nothing). I do not know if it is related to the ones mentioned in previous post (an earlier version maybe?), but afaik it is free, i did found it on Thai WinCE message boards. I installed it on my previous PDA, and re-installed it on my TD2. No compatibility issues, although the cab was for an earlier version of WinMo, it is still working nicely on 6.1 topaz...
It allows me to use free thai-english dictionary (there is also one hanging around, using the MDict engine), I will check during my next trip to thailand if it work for viewing thai characters in SMS in Touchflo and browse thai website...
But as the previous poster said, this will not change the WinMo menus, nor touchflo3D, not any pre-installed apps: those will remain in the language your Topaz came pre-installed with...which, in my case, is a blessing ;-)
Thanks for the replies.
I will try the korechithai.cab on my device later. If it is ok then I will just buy him a UK version.
I installed the korechithai.cab but now both my volume buttons & the call answer button no longer work.

Strange, I installed it too and I do not have this problem...Have you soft resetted your TD2?
BTW, after expansion my korechithai gives different cab:
KbdChinese.cab
KbdKorean.cab
KbdThai.cab
korechithai4ppc.cab
SIPChange.cab
I installed korechithai4ppc.cab first (this gave the thai fonts, so I was already able to read thai words in my dictionary after this install)
then KbdThai.cab, this added the thai keyboard (classic WM keyboard format, so stylus-oriented, or can work with fingers...if you have very sharp nails ;-) )
I did not install SIPChange.cab, this one is not compatible with 6.1 (or so it says in the instruction). I think it is intended for deeper change (program shortcuts, maybe some OS messages or menus), things I had no intention to change anyway.
I you have installed SIPChange.cab, I suspect it is the origin of your problem. I would try to uninstall it, and if it does not work, only solution I see is a hard reset, then try the installation of korechithai4ppc.cab then KbdThai.cab only...

ROM with full Hebrew support

I've installed PDAVIET's WM6.5 ROM 1.59.841.59, what's surprising about it, is that it has Hebrew support out of the box. I can view Hebrew websites in Opera without a mirror effect, and for the first time, in Internet Explorer without it crashing on spot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555137
Question
Can you determine if this is inherent to this WM build (23041.5.3.0 /23047.5.3.0) or whether it's an add-on?
Did you flash using ROM V59?
Thanks.
Apparently this is inherent to the build 23047 rather than just an add on, seen this build on a guy's D1 and it displayed Hebrew equally well.
I flashed V56.
confirm
Thanks cytokine,
Right, seen it functioning on a D1 and on TP this morning (both running build 23047).
I guess we'll see this info spreading like wildfire now, though apparently no formal mention made available through MS SP program or MSDN.
Side note; I'm amazed that Balmer kept his promise to include Heb in future WM OS, even more surprised that it happened before WM7.

i've tried V62. it displays hebrew well in internet explorer on some sites but not in all sites. ynet is working zap is not (site in gibberish).
in opera zap is working in hebrew very well.
SMSs are appearing in hebrew but backwards.
if you install the free hebrew it causes the internet to go backwards and the smss to be fine.
the same is for the contacts, notes and other applications. the built in heb is displaying backwards the free heb is OK.
so you have to decide...
for me the decision is to install free heb and the version of opera that support it.
Opera's display of hebrew is perfect. All sites working flawlessly and at an amazing speed; much faster than I've seen with any Hebrew add-on in previous version.
And though Internet Explorer will not display Hebrew correctly at a few sites, like "Zap", it's at least not brought to a complete halt. With every Hebrew add-on I've tried, the first sign of Hebrew on any webpage, including Google, would make IE crash completely.

I've tried using that "special version" and it just wasn't appealing with its hospital-white interface, weird scrolling and zoom, buggy rendering and slow speed.

if you need hebrew that doesnt crash the explorer you can find it here:

you'll also want the hebrew local (for non unicode hebrew):

go for vivi_Regional.cab.
Thanks tamiroff, I'll take a look.
Question
I read tons of threads and I can't find an answer to the ultimate Question.
Is there a wm 6.5 ROM that can be used on a device with a hardware keyboard (like the se x1) and can be used like a regular device with relative ease?

SONY ERICSSON X1 still with the original ROM

VERY interesting,....A few questions please:
1. Would this mean that anything above build 23047 will also have Hebrew support?
2. By Hebrew support do you mean that the Menus are still in English while it can read/see Hebrew ( SMS, em, IE..etc)? , what about the Keyboard, if you install FingerKeyb-2.1 can you enter hebrew letters (RTL)?
Guys hold your horses.
The ttf files that come with WM by default only have limited sets of glyphs, including latin (english, french, german etc), cyrillic (russian) and possibly some more, but no vietnamese, chinese, japanese, hebrew, arabic etc. This can be easily remedied by overwriting the ttf files that come with windows mobile with the ttf files of the same name from a PC windows installation. this would give you all the glyphs of almost all languages of the world including hebrew.
That's nothing new and we always knew it and could always do it, however it doesn't solve the Right-to-Left issues for us.
PhamQuang makes ROMS for Vietnamese users and probably added the ttf files for their sake. Their language is written left-to-right so they only need the glyphs.
The new Pocket Explorer knows how to deal with RTL and so do recent versions of Opera. Unfortunately the rest of the OS does not and requires installation of third party software, and we still have the problem that new PIE doesn't like it when a third party app tries to mess with its text.
Bottom line: Move along... nothing to see here...
Cheers
