getting started with modding the Diamond - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I am new to this on the diamond, so I have a pretty basic question. Sorry for the bother. I have a NAM version diamond. When HTC came out with their new ROM last week or so, I contacted them and they said it was not designed for my phone and to wait and see if one is put out for the NAM version (has US 3g bands and no front cam). Will I run into any problems with installing ROMs, etc that are here. I read the sticky on what to do first, and understand to do all the HardSPL, etc. Not exactly sure about the radio and actual ROMs that I would be able to use. Just want to make sure its compatible so that I have the least chance of bricking my phone. My last time customizing phones was with the razr v3i, and there were certain roms that could/could not be applied to the phone depending on if it the type of v3i. Thanks again for helping out a new guy.

does your device haev a sim card slot? if it does not then it is a CDMA device and you should be flashing CDMA roms. most of the ones on here are GSM. just check in the rom threads if the rom is a CDMA one or not
many CDMA roms can be found over at the forums on ppcgeeks.com

yeah its a gsm model. I'm just looking to make sure that any of them are fair game, and if the radio, etc matter. I guess I'm a little more cautious since when I talked with HTC, they said that the new ROM would not work on my phone, and so I wanted to make sure if there were any that I should/shouldn't use that are posted here considering that I think most don't have the US 3G version phone.

Just found out I have a Diam 110 if that makes any difference

Anyone modified their TELUS DIAM500?

Just wondering if anyone had any luck playing with their TELUS diamonds.. I got one but considering it doesn't have a SIM, I'm alot more reluctant to play around with it in case of bricking.
Thanks for the help.

Couldn't be easier.... your problem is that you are in the wrong forum alltogether... head over to PPCGeeks.com and they will set you straight. I have a telus diamond and i put a new rom on it about once or twice a month (I get board easy). XDA has a much stronger GSM side than CDMA - but there is stuff here... Its quite safe as long as you follow the instructions. I've done about 10 phones for colleges and family with zero difficulties.
CDMA Diamond no problem
I have flashed lots of ROMs too. I just make sure I stick with the CDMA section of ppcgeeks.com or xda-developers.com and all is good. I even took the stock rom and rebuilt it. When I bought mine I noticed that someone had spl unlocked it already. ppcgeeks has great instructions for the basics. xda-developers has the more advanced stuff in easier to find places.

Will the VZW Nexus One (CDMA) be able to use all of the T-Mo (GSM) ROMs?

If I were to get the VZW Nexus One, would I be able to flash any ROMs for the T-Mo Nexus One? Themes, apps, ROMs, etc.?
Doubt it..
:'( Man, since everyone is so hyped over this Nexus, I doubt anyone will ever make a ROM for the Verizon one.
I'm sure there will be a fairly standard process to port these ROMs to the VZW N1... but then again, I'm not a dev.
Are there any super geniuses out there that know if it will work or not?
Without looking at the android source tree. I would assume that calling the radio interface is the same between devices. The radio image itself will be drastically different, but the OS itself will not see that complexity due to calling the radio through standard API's.
Think of it this way, when you call a friend through a landline using a regular phone. Does your regular phone care who your provider is? It just translates your button pushes to sounds and transmits it via a well established standard. The interaction between rom's and the radio are more than likely very similar.

^This.
Considering that this will be the newest CDMA Android device released in the US, I'd guess that it's going to have the most updated radio out (at least for a while). The SPL, Recovery and such should be pretty much identical I would think. While it may not be possible to just take Cyanogen's ROM and flash it as it currently exists, the necessary changes SHOULD be pretty minor.
The better question is this...
how many people are going to not pay attention when a new radio image is released and flash it to the wrong device
it is possible.
But the devs are mostly gsm. CDMA is too limited with device releases.
Gsm is more flexible so the dev support for gsm is always going to be greater.
May take months for a port to happen.
I believe the droid just recently got their cyanogen mod port after like 8 months of release.
always bet on gsm cdma is too limited.
I used a Rogers Magic for a long time. Each time Cyanogen released an update, there were 2-3 devs that patched it and ported to the Magic for Rogers and also for the MyTouch. Each phone required different things but there will be devs that will handle it on here, just about guaranteed.
As long as I can have the ROM fast, I'll get the Nexus.
So are you guys saying 1 week, or a year?

Rogers is GSM though, not CDMA.

The Droid and Nexus One are totally different devices. The UMTS and CDMA Nexus One should be identical save for the radio and associated hardware.
EDIT: Not quite. The UMTS model uses the QSD8250 Snapdragon, which only supports GSM/UMTS. The CDMA model will likely use the QSD8650, which also has CDMA support (in addition to GSM/UMTS, which adds the possibility of the CDMA model being a world phone) but is otherwise the same.
I mean, they are basically the same phone.
So, are we saying that it is undecided if all the ROMs will work or not? Or do we know that they won't/will?
Thanks
I have heard mixed opinions on this matter and I am very curious to hear from someone who knows for certain the process that needs to take place for CM to run on the VZW N1 when it is available.
Funny that nobody mentions the kernel, which could very well be different for the GSM N1 and the CDMA N1. The radio is the obvious factor, it is the other factors that may be the issue.
Hoping a knowledgeable dev will chime in with a solid answer!

[Q] What happened to AT&T Nexus One?

I have been working on development for a proof of concept application that requires AT&T 3G on the Nexus One. As I finish, I needed to deliver the app on phones to my customer--now I can only get T-Mobile version of the N1!
Why did Google/HTC pull the AT&T version from distribution?
I have a bad feeling by posting this, someone will provide "helpful" comments that I don't need to run an app on a particular carrier, or I can run a TM phone on AT&T--both technically true, but trust me, I have a special case that requires AT&T 3G enabled phones.
I don't think it will work, but I am going to try and reflash a TM N1 with the AT&T radio image and see if that works. I suspect not, since I read somewhere around here that the phones have different power amps. I will let you know...
wrong forum
flashing the at&t radio image to t-mobile hardware will not work don't waster your time
google has not given a reason for no AT&T dev phone only have said "at this time there are no plans to offer the version that is capable of 3G speeds on AT&T and Rogers networks."
Yeah, your best bet is to look on ebay/craigslist or even at the marketplace here on the XDA forums for one. I'm glad I got one before they are gone, but I'm sure you can still find one by looking.
Looks like there is one on sale for $500 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752127
Flashing the radio won't do anything because both phones already use the same radio file. There's no such thing as an ATT radio for the nexus, they all use the same single radio file.
Ebay is your best bet, or Craig list.
Radio image doesn't do anything.
The phones' hardware is different. You just have to get the AT&T version from ebay/craigslist.
Also, check out this guy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753476
Does your application *absolutely* have to run on an N1?
Cause it's worth pointing out... Telus (Canada) has now released the substantially similar HTC Desire. It's SIM-unlockable, cheaper than an N1, runs the right frequencies for AT&T 3G... and the ROM it comes with is rootable. If your application doesn't play well with Sense UI you can load a ROM such as OpenDesire which is basically stock Froyo.
So if you're in a real bind and you can't get your hands on enough Nexus Ones (Nexii?), this one might be worth consideration.

[Q] need ROMs for Worldphone (SIM/CDMA) version

Hey I have a Sprint TP2 and can use SIM cards or CDMA service (currently using), I already did the HardSPL for it but I dont know which ROMs to flash it with... I like the way the Energy ROM looks from screenshots but also want something fast...
What ROMs can I use on my phone?
This forum is for GSM ROMs, there's a separate sub-forum for CDMA ROMs. But better would be ppcgeeks.com, which tends to have a lot more CDMA ROMs than over here (including links to NRG's ROMs).
So I´m kind of confused, if the phone it is both gsm (simcard able) and also supports cdma, what kind of rom will it support? gsm only? cdma only? or both depending on wether I´m using it with a gsm carrier or a cdma carrier? If somebody could answer it´d make my day as there´s a guy selling me a touch pro 2 that´s able to support both gsm and cdma but I´d like to know how far can I go about flashing stuff to it, as I´m currently a happy htc kaiser/tilt owner and would like to "flash the nand out of it" lol and even throw in android to the mix (as i´m currently running froyo on my old kaiser).

If you phone is both CDMA and GSM (Sprint or Verizon), then you need the CDMA ROMs.
Also make sure you use the CDMA HardSPL and CDMA radios. If you flash a GSM radio to a CDMA phone (even if you're using it on a GSM network with a SIM card), you *will* permanently brick it.

thanks for such fast replies. So, if I buy the gsm/cdma phone It sure won´t be as customizable as the gsm version as I haven´t seen many cdma roms around (haven´t looked around that much so I may be wrong) anyways is there any performance/quality disadvantages of going gsm/cdma instead of the "regular" gsm version of this phone? (not really talking about data traffic alone but the overall feel of the phone). A few too many questions I know, so sorry if i´m being kinda bothersome. thanks in advance.

That's because you're on XDA-developers, which historically has had more GSM stuff than CDMA, I believe. If you want CDMA stuff, go to ppcgeeks.com, where you'll find a thread on NRG's ROM plus others. So it should be just as customisable as a GSM-only phone.
Ok I'll download the CDMA ROM's... But will I still be able to use SIM cards on it if I go to another country (or in the US for that matter)? I was planning on doing the SIM/Radio unlock thing for US carriers (the one where you enter your IMEI and pay like 14 euros)??

I know it's kind of confusing, but it doesn't make a difference if the device uses GSM also. It's a CDMA device. You can only flash CDMA ROMs to it, otherwise it will brick. If you have the radio unlocked, you can use it on other carriers. You can unlock it most easily by contacting the carrier and just telling them you're going on vacation to Europe or something and need it unlocked.

Flashing HTC Incredible 2 with Incredible S radios?

Here is my situation: I actually own an HTC Incredible 2, the American version of the Incredible S. As far as I've learned - the phones are nearly identical - the US version simply sporting a Verizon logo and software.
I'm currently stationed in Europe, Poland to be specific. I use my phone in GSM mode with a local carrier. After rooting and flashing CM7 for the first time, I noticed my reception getting significantly worse than before (And if not, it's pretty **** in the first place.)
I an attempt to remedy this, I flashed the newest .1111 radio from the Inc2 forums, unfortunately that not only didn't help - but resulted in a ~10db drop in my reception.
I figure that maybe since I'm in Europe, the Inc2 drivers are not suited for my location and the IncS has the software I need. Is this asking for a brick, and if not - are there any proven-to-work with GSM in Europe radios for me to try?
My general understandstanding and experience with reading with the gsm HTC flyer and the CDMA EVO view tablet (evo is CDMA ver of flyer) you are askimg for a brick. Its generally advised there that we should not do it. But to be honest, I don't think many people were really willing to try in the first place.
According to GSMarena the incredible s and the 2 have different chipsets. Along with the fact that the 2 is a cdma and GSM/hsdpa phone, while the s is GSM/hsdpa only we can safely assume the radios would be very different. Taking a chance like flashing a radio is not something I would recommend.
surely u will end up in a bricked device~!
