Hello,
I was wondering if there is such a application for WM6.1 where an AIO instant messenger program is built into the standard text messaging application?
If that's confusing (which it probably is) It's a pain trying to switch back in forth between texts and IM's, so im trying to simple it down with combining the instant messaging with the threaded text messaging that comes with WM6.1.
-Thanks for all the help
Anybody have an answer? =)
Not sure what you mean by AIO, but services like yahoo messenger (for desktop) have the ability to send you IM as text messages.
I mean by AIO as in all the instant messengers like AIM, MSN, Yahoo etc. in one program.
If it helps, i'm trying to combine text messaging and instant messaging into one simple program.
I don't think there's anything that works the way you want. Truth be told, there's not many good IM solutions for WM -- Beejive and Palringo are probably the best and both have a few drawbacks.
I believe there may be a DESKTOP apps you can configure to send you incoming IMs as text messages, but that's not exactly what you're asking and I don't know any all-in-ones that handle it either.
It's a good idea, though! I'm a big fan of the built-in SMS messenger. Clean, easy to read, and usable. It doesn't have any sort of "buddy list," though, so that would be an issue.
I think the more likely solution would be to find an AIO IM app that ALSO handles SMS -- I think Nimbuzz might but I can't stand that app in general.

Ohh alright, thanks for the answer
I just got another G1 (two now), this one for work. In fact, the whole office is getting them. To make a long story short, we receive hundred of SMS messages a day for the kind of business we do (all automated, not actual people )
Anyways, I was wondering if there was anything better than the default SMS app that would help us manage these hundreds of messages better? Even if it was similar to the Gmail app, it might make it better to deal with. Just don't like the way it does threads and what not. Whatever app we go with, we can't root the phones (at least not yet) so we need something off the market.
Any guidance is appreciated!
I receive hundreds of automated SMS's a day on my G1 with the stock client and it works fantastic. What exactly are you you not liking about the stock client? What would you like it to do?
IMHO, everything on the market that replaces the stock messaging app is pretty sub par.
I think he'd rather have a traditional inbox/outbox for messages than a threaded messanger.

Yes, that is one thing I would love. The threaded system does not work so well for what we use our SMS alerting for. It's a lot better if we just have a list in chronological order.
Ah, I see. Honestly, you'll be pretty hard pressed to find a dev out there who write an app to defeat threaded messaging for SMS since it would barely be used by the masses. :-/

I wouldn't say that so much. Some people like the old style of SMS. Maybe one of our developers in the company can take a look
handcent is useful
this is more of opinion survey versus anything else.
i am looking for a text message widget and email widget.
specifically something for viewing text messages and e-mail from the desktop with the ability to delete, forward and reply at my discretion. as always i am looking for usability and functionality
i have been in the market and tried multiple apps, chomp, ohmymms, and many others- after some looking today i see there are many more. hopefully some of you have found something that you prefer over something else.
i would like to read about it.
thanks in advance
i used to use, fancy widgets messaging widget.
its set up like the HTC Sense widget but smaller i dont know if it has all the functionality your looking for though
Is there an app that you can send and recieve MMS through? I am using Boost on my sprint HTC touch and can't recieve MMS on it because it just sends a link that is broken. If there is an app that can intercept those messages and send the full picture message to my phone, that would be amazing!

as you guys are on sprint/boost there is a patch someplace you can install to assist with picture messaging. google it and you ought to find something.
personally, i have been an owner for over a year and tried everything but to no avail. best thing i have found for images is e-mail.
hope it helps
There are cabs you can install, but those are for WinMo from my understanding.

The thing is, no one has found a solution out yet, and as we don't have a fully functioning camera just yet, I don't mind waiting til we do.
Is there an other MMS apps as an alternate to Handcent or Chomp?
My main issue with Handcent is that it takes too long to get text notifications. They're instant with the default Froyo Mms.apk. Handcent takes an extra 2+ minutes for texts to show up.
I'm willing to try Handcent longer if someone knows how to make it receive texts faster. I enabled auto retrieve and roaming auto retrieve.
Kill the pop up on handcent, that speeds it up a lot.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Popup is disabled... I'm not talking about phone lag. The texts just don't show up instantly like they do with the default Mms app.
Then just use the stock. I just dropped handcent because it's too bulky.
Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo on Hero action here!

There's that, Chomp SMS. I also just use the stock app.

I haven't seen any other sms apps that actually handle sending/receiving texts. Only widgets or popups and such
If you are looking for another texting app, go sms is decent too. Not sure if this will help you, but another option

I used this App for a couple of weeks since I fell in love with the black theme and pop up was 5 times nicer than the Handcent one but I found even Handcent to be quicker than Go SMS. But it is still an App I suggest giving a shot. I might even give it another chance to see if the updates have fixed it up a bit.
I just started using Go SMS the other day and like it a lot. I have been using handcent for a year now and Go SMS seems a little faster and doesn't have all the fluff I didn't use anyway.
was using hancent/chomp/gosms for some time now. just switched back to handcent. to be honest they became quite alike over time. it felt like chomp was always a little behind. no idea what's causing the lag on your phone. although i'm using handcent again, if you can't figure out the source of the problem, i'd recommend staying with gosms. they update all their apps very frequently and doing great so far. might increase the possibility of getting the error fixed which is causing your problem...
I have a HTC Magic and Handcent and the HTC Messaging App both send notifications at exctly the same time.

Disable notifications in the stock app.

Personally, I am a fan of the stock MMS app and using SMS popup from the market. It's a very small app, and allows the popup similar to Handcent.
go sms pro FTW, it literally pwns everything.

Explain the pwnage factor I haven't tried it as I wasn't all that impressed with the description...sounded like all the others with more visual candy (themes). Why are you sold on it?
I don't like how Go SMS doesn't let you restrict the popup to only come up when the screen is off. Also doesn't have the Gingerbread SMS icon.

I don't use popups, but there's a nice green icon I like. I suppose you could leave the stock icon on and turn off the go icon, then when you get the icon just clear it and launch go? Or use whatever you're using, lol.
Hmm
I have used ChompSMS pretty much the entire time I have owned an android phone and it is way awesome! And super customizable. Way awesome, never have problems with it.
I'm trying out go sms and it seems good so far. I may end up not using the popular because I really like advanced sms toast. It's clean and simple

Hi,
I upgraded my galaxy s (Canadian version) to gingerbread. I came across the youtube video for Kite UI and loved the IM interface. The default screen for my message from cell contacts looks bland, I'm not talking about those apps that tie in all your online instant messaging programs, I'm talking about incoming txt messages. I'm looking for something to give my txt messages a nice UI with avatars, if it is also tied into an app that would include txt's and IM's, then that would be good as well.
I know kite ui is kinda dead in the water right now, any alternatives to achieve my desired result?
Thanks
Try Go SmS app, very nice and you can customize the whole thing. Handcent and Chomp are also good.
