QuickGPS can't connect - SOLVED!!! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Wow, I can't tell you all how much I've 'suffered' from this issue. All the registry hacks I've found and tried worked for me one time, including the CAB installs, and all the rest of my attempts, not at all.
I tried downloading the GPS data manually, and still no go. Basically I've not been able to get QuickGPS to synch/update for about 6 weeks.
Here's what FINALLY worked for me. The really weird issue that pushed me over the edge was noticing that PIE wouldn't connect 'suddenly', which I think means that it was never connecting while QuickGPS couldn't get its data either. I use Opera Mobile generally, so I hadn't noticed the PIE issue. I also have no issues with the slew of other network based apps (exchange synch, RSS Hub, Skype, Weather updates, etc).
So... I started looking around and found this fix for PIE. It is a CAB that removes any proxy info in the network connections. I didn't think I needed it since I had no proxies set, and also resaved my network connections. Well, I ran this CAB, http://www.gadgetech.info/treo/hacks/disableproxy/DisableCingularProxy.cab from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=300887&page=5, (THANKS PRODIGALFISH!).
You will also likely want to reinstall this in case you think your registry is junked by now:
HTC QuickGPS 1_00_220821_00 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365595 (THANKS srsaleenstang!)
Rebooted my phone, and BAM. QuickGPS is rocking FINALLY after a MONTH of no connects.
I suspect something really bad happens to my internet connect settings as I roam quite a bit, either out of the country, or to edge only networks out of 3G areas. I don't know how it happens, but wow, I'm glad to have my GPS lock quickly.
It appears that PIE gets confused from some type of less than obvious proxy information which is the same that QuickGPS uses. I have no imperical evidence for this, only my long term struggle being resolved so soundly from this patch.
Later I think I'll extract the CAB from above to see what it's doing vs. what my internet connections reported as being.
Anyway, I'm interested in digging into this further since I really like my Winmo Kaiser on AT&T service with the GPS. I like it even more when GPS locks quickly.
Please let me know if this works for you if you have the same problem.
Here's the simple instructions again:
1. Run this CAB to fix your internet connection settings: http://www.gadgetech.info/treo/hacks/disableproxy/DisableCingularProxy.cab
2. Run this CAB to get a healthy QuickGPS installed: http://www.4shared.com/file/70370766/d5fd31e4/HTC_QuickGPS_1_00_220821_00.html
I'm on AT&T network, Kaiser with custom ROM.

thanks! I'm hoping I can follow this fix to get quickGPS working on my verizon touch pro. The 4shared.com link is invalid now though. Would you mind re-uploading?

This almost worked
I had the same problem. PIE (Explorer) stopped working about a month ago and always gave a 504 error gateway timeout. My QuickGPS also stopped being able to connect. Even under WiFi. I installed Opera which solved the browsing problem, but could no longer get QuickGPS updates. It did look like there was a additional proxy (in spite of me not specifying one).
The above instructions almost worked but DisableCingularProxy.cab didn't do it. But removeHiddenProxy4CWS_0522.cab did do it (if you unpack these you'll see the first changes only one thing in the Registry (EnableAutoDetect) while the second also changes ConnMgrExternalPath to what appears to be a random binary string.
With removeHiddenProxy4CWS_0522.cab QuickGPS and PIE work again (though I'll continue to use Opera for actual browsing).
I successfully downloaded the cab from here removeHiddenProxy4CWS_0522.cab

Deleting deleted proxy settings
Hi
Sorry for the "brick".
Four days ago I had the same problem, QuickGPS didn't connect. I work in networking, so everithing I see I allways think about it as a network problem.
I configured my server as default router of my Polaris, and started a trace with wireshark. Then I found that when I tried to update, my PDA tried to connect to one of my office's proxy.
Settings -> Connections -> Connections, and deleted the proxy. Reset. But my PDA still tried to connect to my office's proxy.
My server is also a DNS server, so I defined a DNS record with the name of my office's proxy and my server's address. I started a proxy server (privoxy) in the same port of my office's proxy. Thus, I replicated my office's proxy at home. When I tested, I found that QuickGPS made the update very fast... through the proxy I had deleted.
I searched several times for the text in regedit but didn't find any key with the name of my office's proxy server.
I tried reinstalling the QuickGPS software. Fail.
Then I saw this post, watched the keys and found that the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections\DefaultConnectionSettings
still had the name of my office's proxy in hex.
I tried to find the syntax of the key, nothing. I only found this post.
I made a copy of the value of the key in my PDA and changed my key to
3c 00 00 00 15
00 00 00 01 00
00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00

00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 00 00
00
Reset. Tried QuickGPS ... and now it's working without proxy.
Success. I invited myself to a beer.
Hope it helps

Treo750, WM6 won't sync with server

Hi,
I just upgraded my Treo 750 with the AT&T WM6 build today. Everything seems to be working fine, except that I cannot sync with my company's OWA server. Activesync says that it's synching, but this goes on for a long time, then it stops and the message "Waiting For Network" appears at the bottom of the screen.
Others on the same server can sync fine with their devices, so it's not a server issue. I can download my GMail just fine so it's not an issue with internet settings.
Any ideas, or anyone having the same problem? I haven't been able to find related posts.
Thanks
Kevin
This may be of some help...
http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=151190
Please disregard this thread. I got it working. Thanks!
Same with me.
I Just upgrade my 750v to WM6.
But, now I cannot sync the with my exchange server 2003 SP3. (In WM5, I always sync successfully)
I always got an error : The security certificate on the server is not valid. Contact your Exchange Server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server.
I even add the Secure DWord key (0) into HKCU/Software/Microsoft/ActiveSync/Partners registry. But error still shown every time I tried to sync.
Anyone can help me ?

openvpn over wifi

It wont connect via the wifi. It doesnt make any sense at all. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm running the dutty april rom. openvpn 2.1 for pocketpc here is my .ovpn config.... What's weird is that this config works fine on my linux pc and my windows laptop both using my wifi connection so I know it's not an issue with my wifi router. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Additionally openvpn works fine on my mobile if I am using the edge or 3g connection. It just doesnt work on the wi-fi.

And ive followed every easy to use set of instructions out there, i cannot access intranet thru exchange or any other method using my wiifii. I wonder if you shut everything else on the phone off what would happen? (gprs/medianet etc)
good luck, ill keep an eye here to see if anyone figures anything out.
It looks like nobody else here has gotten it to work either

IPSEC/L2TP to IPCop VPN server?

Guys,
I'm trying to get my Kaiser to VPN into our Linux based IP Cop VPN server, using a certificate that has installed fine.
I enter all VPN details, the phone connects its 3G first, then attempts to connect the VPN - on our server side logs we can see the connection attempt, authentication happens and succeeds but then the phone reports a VPN username/password error and disconnects?
We suspect it could be to do with the CHAP/MSCHAP authentication but can't find anywhere on the phone itself to configure advanced VPN settings such as these - has anyone else succeeded with such a setup? or have an idea as to an installable WM6 VPN client that would make this easier?

Thanks for your reply, but I think these settings are for the GPRS settings itself, not for the specific VPN Chap/MSChap authentication?
I have my Kaiser working with both Cisco IOS routers and PIX Firewalls and the majority of the configuration was on the Cisco kit; the Kaiser was relatively simple.
I installed a Certificate, then added a VPN connection to the 'My Work Network'. I selected IPSec/L2TP, then checked the 'A certificate on this device' radio button, then entered the username & password. There isn't anything else to configure.
Is there a Root certificate installed from the CA that issued the personal certificate to the PDA & the certificate to the VPN Server? What properties does the personal certificate have? (you need to ensure 'Client Authentication' is on there).

Just an update on this - I've tried connecting this morning and now I'm getting something slightly different - a Network Logon prompt, asking for my USername, Password and Domain - the odd thing is that the password that I entered when installin the Certificate has been place in plain text into the Domain field???
The rom I am using doesn't have the Certificates option, I am enquiring about that now so as to reenable it and check that the certificate is installed. Will keep you updated.
Another update! Here are the log files from the IPCop VPN server itself, does this help?

When I read the thread title I had the same reaction at first! LOL...
And Here, I know I probably waste more forum space than I should, but if I can't contribute anything else I fall back on humor.
How do you get it work?
All I can find is APN name wap.mic1.com.lb
Proxy, Port 80 and username/password
Did you changed any other parameters?
No, not at all. But you know there is a kind of bug with the data connection; i.e. if you're not constantly connected, you need to reboot to be able to re-connect. Maybe that's your problem.
Check the threads below:

I am using the Desire ROM so no problems about this. I am sure my settings are missing!
What are the MMSC and server settings?
Server: not set
MMSC: not set
MMS proxy: not set
MMS port: not set
MCC: 415
MNC: 01
Authentification type: PAP or CHAP
I am getting ''Access Denied'' in the browser
I am using Port 80 and 8080 but none work
Try to call them...although I doubt they've heard about android

I was in Beirut for a few weeks in Febuary and I had absolutely no luck getting Alfa GPRS to work on the N1. I just gave up eventually and haunted places with wifi when I needed my data fix.
This is the Email reply I got from Alfa:
Dear alfa user
Thank you for your e-mail. Please be informed that the wap service is not compatible with your mobile phone. However, you may activate the GPRS service only in case you have an alfa classic line. You may also find below the different GPRS offers:
Formula 1: 50 Mb package for 10$/month or 15,075LBP/month
Formula 2: 120 Mb package for 15$/month or 22,613LBP/month
Formula 3: 250 Mb package for 25$/month or 37,688LBP/month
I don't want to turn my prepaid line into fixed one and pay 30$ more just for that
I am pretty sure there is a way to make it work like they did on iphone...

+1 gprs working for me
Why would the GPRS works and not WAP? This is nonsense
Could Alfa block android platform via proxy on purpose?
Got finally a more complete answer from Alfa but I don't know why when I try to save with MNC 03 instead of 01 the APN doesn't save and disapear!!
Can someone try it?
