nervous ROM flash about to take place - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

I need to hard reset my device (only way to remove something that I tried but can't get rid of - Flexmail). I'm not nervous about doing the flash (have previously performed such tasks), I'm nervous about 'am I making the right choice'
I've downloaded 1.56 from the HTC site, so I *could* flash this...or, I could flash one of the ones from XDA...Dutty's latest seems to be the most popular.
I don't particularly need the topaz/rhodium stuff as I don't use TF3D, so I have nothing to gain on that front, but I would go for faster operating system, enhanced features of the cooked ROMS from XDA.
should I go for the dutty? or the official from HTC? or should I stick with my original ROM.

If you don't need the new TF3D / Topaz stuff, I'd personally go for the latest official ROM, its very stable, fast and smooth, most of the non Topaz/Rhodium stuff can be added/tweaked if needed anyway

Onkolog has a good lite and superlite ROM if you don't want Manila.

You would have to flash the new 1.56 Stock ROM to flash Dutty's V3.0 Xtreme ROM anyways.
But if you are trying to enter into the 1,56 world wheter Stock or Cooked ROMs, Please read every possible Instructions and FAQ therads and posts out threre. Only do this if you are comfortable with it.
If you want to stick to the Stock ROMs, You will not have problems. The issues/problems only come when after you flash the Latest Ship ROM (1.56) and then decide to try the Cooked ROMs.

Whats the benefits?

Hi, i got the HD in March, and just wonder the benefits of installing a custom rom. Like Dutty's (seems to be popular). I read the threads of the contents in the rom , but what would you push for in this custom roms that isn't in the original rom.
If i flash it, is there a "easy" way to get back to original rom? I guess i HAVE to flash the rom back to original?
Is it diffrent original roms for diffrent countries?
Does the customs incl,
Landscapce mode in sms,mail, browse?
Nice calender, original sucks (looks like win 3.11)?
Last silly question, is there other themes fo customs?
I have understood that the Manilla is the graphical layout, or am i out in the bushes??
/Micke
Yeah, the only way to get back to a stock ROM is by reflashing it (don't worry though, there are plenty of links to those around here).
And while flashing itself is not without a risk (you can always "brick" your device), I'd say it's well worth it. Custom ROMs generally offer more speed, often more stability (especially those made by well-known chefs), new features (Manila/TouchFlo from the new HTC phones, Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2, which includes a newer, nicer calendar) and yes, they very often do have advanced screen rotation.
My Blackstone is currently sporting Davideuck's V-4_HP (that's a WMo 6.1 ROM with the new Manila) and it's probably the best ROM I've ever had on my phone. I recommend you to try that one.
As for themes, yeah, there are a few, especially in Blackstone's "Themes and Applications" subforum. And yep, you understood correctly, Manila (or Touch Flo 3D, as HTC likes to call it) is the graphical interface.
Ok, thanks for the answers. And if you see a thread with a link to a "swedish rom" notify me
So if i understood things right, i install hspl on the phone, boot it up in that "special way" flash it by SD card or custonruu on pc.
Either i put it on the root of the sd card and flash the rom och start customruu on the pc and choose the rom file from there?

Not if you want to flash Dutty's 2.7 or 2.8. You have to use USPL 2.5 and flash a stock 1.56 ROM in advance. Instructions on how to do this are included in the thread of this ROM.
Ok, whats the diffrent between USPL and HSPL ? Can i flash other rom with USPL ? Why do i need to "install" a stock rom 1.56?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you already have stock ROM and have never used HSPL to change your stock SPL, then all you have to do is flash to the new stock HTC ROM (which contains the new SPL you need), and then use USPL to flash a custom ROM.
So if I understood it correctly, this is the way to do it..
I too feel like I'm ready to install a custom ROM and was either considoring
Dutty's or Davaideucks's ROM's but what I wanted to know was, even though
these ROM's maybe more stable and faster, how buggy are they?

Can I go back to the original Xperia X1 ROM?

I'm tired of using all these different cooked ROMS' and each of them have a different problem...some are slow...some are buggy...or maybe it's just my stupid phone/T-Mobile network...or all because it's Microsoft WIndows.
In any case, I'd try going back to Son'y original ROM, is there a way to do that?

slow ?? bugs ??
hmmm...
you don't know the power of the dark side
...or you have not flashed the pure SEX1 R5
Hi! Yes you may install the stock ROM same way you've been installing the Cooked ROM's.
Just Find the original stock one in this Forum's ROM Section (it is a Sticky).
If you use the sdcard method is more simple. After finding the stock Rom xxx.nbh file, just rename it to "Kovsimg.nbh".
Hope this helps.
I just did the same 2 days ago. You can find the stock WM 6.1 Roms HERE.
And as said just rename the image file to Kovsimg.nbh and flash it like any other Rom.

Is it now? I waited one year 'til my warranty expires and now that it's 8 days over I'm seeing this. hehehe. by any chance, is this reverting back to original rom will really re-virginize your Xperia? Re-virginize as in Nintendo Wii re-virginize?. Just wanna be sure though.
Hi, I have a question … I'm still running WM6.1 with a stock R3AA010 ROM. I'm considering installing one of the WM6.5 ROMs (gtrab's SEX1 R5 BareBone ROM). To do this I need to install the HardSPL, I know. If I want to go back to the stock ROM will R3AA010 install using the HardSPL or do you have to re-install the Stock-SPL. If so how do you do that? I'm sorry if these are noob questions, but the guides aren't absolutely clear on this point - or maybe its I'm a little thick

If you've Hard-SPL and put a custom ROM in but want to change to an official rom, just download the rom and flash as you would a custom rom.
You don't have to put Stock-SPL if you don't want to. But if you someday wanna leave it in for repair etc, then you will have to put Stock-SPL on it, for guarantee reasons.

Thanks for the clarification dogans. So just to be clear, if I revert from a custom ROM back to a stock ROM the Stock-SPL isn't installed as part of the process. You have to install it afterward, just as you do with the Hard-SPL - Yes?
As far as i know, the HardSPL cant' be overridden by a usual stock ROM. You have to manual flash the original SPL.
Using a stock ROM with HardSPL isn't a problem, but i can't tell you how to get the original stock SPL back if you did _not_ back it up before (thats what i did -.-).
Maybe someone can tell me how to do this, would be very nice

Correct. Stock-SPL isn't included in stock ROM.
You will have to flash that separately.

have you tried to go in bootloader mode (3-color-screen) turn phone off. Than press vol down button and camera button until you see a 3 color screen, then you you can put in your USB cable and flash a rom you like the same way you did it with the android rom.

Noob trying to flash ROMs

Hi all,
I'm new to this kind of operation, so I'm just wondering if the following sequence is correct or not.
1. Flash the HardSPL
2. Flash the ROM (I'm looking into the WCX Rhodium TILT 2 ROM)
3. Flash the Radio.
4. Run Task 29
Am I done? Do I need to download the hotfixes from HTC's website? I'm going to get the Tilt 2 from AT&T.
Thanks a lot!

I dont know exactly what is task 29, but when I was flashing my TP2, then I did this steps
1. sync my phone with windows in windows wia USB
2. start HardSPL auto mode (this have to be done only once, if you never made a flash before).
3. reboot TP2
3. run custom ROM
4. reboot phone
5. do a hard reset (recommended but not necessary)
remember that flashing your phone will erase all your data on it !!!!
this was all and everything works fine
If I can recommend than try energy ROM with Sense 2,5, it seems to be reall fast and stable ..
http ://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773
Task 29 is actually sticky on the top of this board
Task29 formats the memory of your phone. If you want to use it you have to do it BEFORE installing the new ROM. It is not recomended if you are changing from Stock to Custom ROM, more likely if you flash different Custom ROMs.
Ahh, thanks!
What about the 2 hotfix from HTC, do I need to install them after the flash of the custom ROM?

ok, so as I understand, task29 have to be started after HardSPL and before ROM flash to clean ROM memory.
I didn't used it and I don't see any bugs or something like this
about hotfixes
I thing its not necessary custom ROMs have in most cases everything well-tuned
you will see
Wonderful, I think that's all I can think of right now! Thanks for all your help!
I take the POST to ask something else...
The suggested order for the flashing of a Rhodium is:
HardSPL
Task29
Flash ROM (Recommended Hard Reset after flashing)
Flash Radio
The process is right?
I can download the next update of the site of HTC Mobile Phone
Support
(http://member.america.htc.com/download/RomCode/HTC_Tilt2_ATT/HTCTilt2ATTOriginalShipROM.exe) and install it before HardSPL?
Or I can install HardSPL before an official update from HTC?

You can still install official ROMs (e.g. from HTC or your carrier), even if you've got HardSPL, yes.
As for the first bit above though, whether you can install an official ROM without HardSPL depends on your phone/ROM combination. If that ROM is an official ROM designed specifically for your model/branding/carrier of phone, then you don't need HardSPL. e.g. I have a Vodafone-branded TP2, so without HardSPL I would be able to install official Vodafone ROMs, but I would *not* be able to install an official HTC ROM (because my phone isn't just a plain HTC-branded TP2).

Another little question?
Is there any problem if flashing first the Radio (4.49.25.77) and then the ROM (WWE | Rhodium | Energy | May 28 | 21905).
THANKS.
Please refer to here for flashing questions.

OliNex HardSpl differences

Is there really any difference bettwen OliNex v0.70 and 1.4 or what's the newest version?
i meen why would people put new version, if the old one is doing the same thing?
and also, is it bad for my xperia x1 to install a 3 different custom rom for a DAY i am just checking which is the best one, and why when i install a new rom, old "NOW PLAYING" in windows media player stays?
what should i do, to install clean ROM?
Thank you

I'm not aware of an OliNex version other than 0.72 (except for the mfg spl of course), which hasn't been updated for quite some time
so if you found a v1.4 for the X1 post it here
to erase possible leftovers it's been reported to either flash a stock rom before flashing custom one ore using task29 (rom dev)
do some research and decide for yourself whether to try one of them or not
Best, DK
i have not found v1.4 olinex, i have 0.72 i'm sorry typing error, so what is the difference between your 1.0 and mine 0.72? (they have the same purpose)
hmm, okey, but how to install a stock rom? i know how to install a custom rom, just transfer to sdcard and boot with volume button down.. is it same for stock roms?(just rename it to kovsimg.nbh) where to find stock roms? when i install stock rom, will i still have olinex hard spl?

0.72 = v1.0
install stock rom = install custom rom
find stock roms either through reference thread in rom dev or here
hspl will not be removed as long as you don't flash back to stock spl
Best, DK
so, if i understood you, with mine 0.72 i can install stock and custom rom?
and you with 1.0 can install just custom?
and also, if i install stock rom, i install it the same way like custom one? (tranfer kovsimg.nbh to root of memory card and enter bootloader)
and if i install the stock rom like that, can i then install again custom one, i meen will my hard spl will delete or it's on the special memory of the phone? that i can't change with rom installations? thank you

correct
wrong, what I label as v1.0 is exactly the 0.72 that everyone uses
correct, you install stock like custom roms, either using sd or ruu methods
installing stock rom does not overwrite your hspl, so after stock you can flash custom roms right away, roms do not affect the spl as you said
Best,
DK

[Q] I need some advice on updating my G1.

So I just picked up an original T-Mobile branded G1. It's got the stock 1.6 firmware on it now. I would like to try running 2.2 on it but I have absolutely no idea how to go about it.
So far I have determined that there are more flavours to choose from than at a baskin robbins. I'm also completely lost when it comes to radios, kernals, bootloaders and other things expressed as three letter acronyms.
Could anyone suggest a good solid 2.2 firmware and the specific supporting bits and pieces I will need to make it work? I really want to see this phone shine.
Like everything else, read the development forum on the ROM. Do a research on what each ROM will do. Some ROM needs a specific SPL (HBOOT) and radio in order for it to work properly. As you already know (from your post) there are many different flavor of ROMs. Some deal with speed, and performance. Other deal with functionality of the apps. Most of them if not all are on 2.3 at this point.
You will have to sit down and read the instruction once you decided which ROM you wants.
Most everyone love Gingerbread series (specifically Gingerbread Yoshi and ezGingerbread).
I, myself, started with CM 6.0.0 RC1 (2.2) and after it crashed on me I end up loading SuperAosp DM 2.8.2 (with 2.3 on it) with the recommendation by one of the member here. It is fast performance, and that what I need.
So, you'll have to decide what you want to do with your G1 before you flash it with a custom ROM.
I have done this, this week end.
Here there is a post about the ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4647751&postcount=1
and this one for the radio i find
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640535
i suggest you to do a Nandroid backup before, and format your SDCARD ( i didnt done this, but i read about some problems to install the rom) and you will reboot your device after changing Recovery and After flashing the rom. and htc logo take a while befor showing cyanogem mod.
tell here if you find problems
So everyone says good things about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811620. It seems a good place to start. But I'm still a n00b. What, precisely, do I need to do with my bone stock (But unlocked) G1 to install it? Do I need to root it first?
"If you refuse to upgrade or can't upgrade because you have a 32a (1.2 or classic) device: you will need an alternative kernel as described in step 4.b 4.c or the phone will not boot
Note: 2.22.27.08 will also work but is not how the ota was shipped
* Uesrs of other SPLs can either use Danger (dream only), any sapphire SPL on the magic/sapphire/MT3G or alternatively Custom MTD I recommend "87 2" (system/cache) {as of test3 06bindcache will work if you install the parts package, thus if you use CustomMTD parts is mandatory to avoid market issues} "
Does that just mean I need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139? Then why does it say "Please note this includes my 20101106 - 2708 ported kernel"
What is an SPL? What's this about Danger? What's fastboot?
I'm much better with a soldering iron than software.

You will need to root your phone, if you want to flash custom ROM. Unlocking it is just so you can use it on other network.
BTW! I was a noob at this probably a week or so ago, when I first started to work on upgrading my G1. Now I am learning the rope and helping others.
