Ive looked quite a bit and even posted in a non relevant thread pertaining to ICS and its DHCP Assigning. Is there a way to change the IP Block it is currently set to use ( 192.168.0.xx ) ?
The issue I am having is that with my setup, I am running my raphael via USB as a sharable connection back out via lan ( cat5 ). The dilemma is that XP also uses this dhcp allocator and it causes a conflict that prevents the computer from allowing incoming connections via lan.
I have tried to find ways around XP's dhcp assignment and as far as I can tell, there is no way to change it. Im hoping on the WM side, it is just something as simple as a registry thread im overlooking.
Id like to assign it as maybe 192.168.2.1 if possible.
Before people say "just use wmwifirouter", this is NOT an option as im looking for a slightly more long term connection ( Until my DSL is installed next week ). The raphael ( as well as my kaiser ) Both overheat to the point where they refuse to charge with bluetooth sharing and Wifi sharing, whereas with USB , there is no issue. Theoretically what im attempting is possible as Network connection sharing allows me the "Advanced " Tab and inside it lets me chose the " Share this connection" feature. The problem occurs when I select the "Share via Lan Connection 1" box. It freezes and tells me that the IP Block is already in use. I am not a novice when it comes to networking, so I know my setup will work ( As I have tested it briefly using a neighbors insecure wireless signal selecting the Wifi card as the shared connection)
Thank you for any insight and input
PS
If this belongs in the General forum, moderators please feel free to move it, however this issue is with a specific piece of software on my Raphael ( ICS )
Hmmm 2 days and no responses. I'll assume it cant be done then I hope im wrong and it is possible.

Nope.... im trying to changer the IP block that ICS is using as its default. WmWifiRouter is able and it uses ICS as its base for how it works. Im trying to change the default ICS DHCP address given to a client computer when its plugged in via USB or Bluetooth.
Thanks
Ok well i use my laptop to connect my xbox to the internet through ics but when you go into you connections (win xp) you right click on the phone (in the network connections) and its one of those 3 tabs that has a checkbox in it that says alow other devices to connect through this connection and click apply. You should be able to do it that way (i havnt personaly dont it with my phone but i do it with wireless for my xbox) and i think you have to pay for ics with att not sure. any peace out
p.s. im at school now so pm me if you need a vid on how to do this...
I was actually wondering the same thing, and some searching turned up this:
http://blogger.socsurveys.org/2008/12/windows-ics-19216801-conflict.html
But I'm not sure if it's a good solution or not, since I haven't had the chance to try it yet. Hope it helps

I believe than in windows XP may be also vista, ICS can only done if the computer providing the share uses 192.168.0.1. It is probably the same concept. Bad news is that there is no way around it if you use ICS

Hi:
I have the HTC-branded TyTN II and I can connect to my Wifi network just fine, but none of the applications can access the Internet through this connection. The connection status shows as "connected" and the phone shows up in router's DHCP table. Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks in advance!
Try moving the WIFI power saving mode to the left: "Best Performance".
Don't know if this is "too obvious" but have you set the DNS lookup address?
oh man! another unlucky soul...like me
dont worry buddy, you are not alone in this "wireless problem" as i have an HTC Touch and unfortunately i have Windows Vista Home Premium installed in my laptop which has damn wifi.
same as yours, my HTC connects to the wifi i made in several ways with Security and Authentication Enabled in every way i can and also last with Open Authentication and Security as NONE
my network shows that my wifi is connected to my HTC but only LOCAL, which means you cant access internet, and strangely also, the wifi network is labelled as Unidentified Network, when the WIFI i made is given a solid name, like WIFY.
i checked out my HTC Touch with a friend who has Windows XP installed in his laptop and damn....i can browse as well as chat in Messenger, while being connected to his WIFI.
So i will tell you these by experience:
1st: its not a problem with your HTC TyTN II, so dont subject it to forced connection, like messing with your settings all day long while you try to connect it. cos simple truth is you cant (i m assuming you have windows vista as well)
2nd: its been like my third nite, with "vista+wireless connection+unidentified network" searched on google.
and somethings i came across, but didnt fix my problem includes:
> disable IPv6 from your NIC
> assign a MAC address filter to your NIC (Vista by default has Network Address set to Not Present, which can be found in your LAN Card > Properties > Advanced Tab)
And even my assumption that you're using Vista is wrong, let this be an INFO to other users here as well.
Damn, i m getting back to Windows XP!!!!!!!
So if you think your WiFi card needs a checkup or try these solutions i have mentioned, try google....its a saviour for all gadget dudes like us!!!!
Just to try and give a fuller picture - I have no such problems
I have a desktop running Win XP Pro, a laptop running Vista Home Premium and my Kaiser. All are connecting wirelessly thru a router using WPA encryption and using IE, Firefox for browsing, SMTP/POP3 clients for email and MSN. They are also connection to each other - desktop, laptop and Kaiser - no problem on any of them.
Yeah, having Vista on your network should be no issue with regards to connectivity of a device to a wi-fi network. However, having Vista on the network may make the vista computer invisible on the network map and make it unavailable on the network if you are using XP based computers as well. Not too sure about other Windows versions or different OSs. This is because the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder component is not installed on the Windows XP-based computer. The patch to install on the XP based rigs is here. I ran into several networks with this issue and have cleaned them up with this patch. I even keep it on my Cruzer because I have seen it so much.
I know this doesn't help with the original query, but I wanted to ensure ayyum3 and cv2k3 know that Vista in the network will not affect any outside device's connectivity.
To the 2 fellas who are having this issue... are you using a software, or have you enabled the locking out external devices from connecting to your network? Also, have you ensured your wireless router has proper internet connection? To see the network yet be unable to access the internet leads me to believe it is a router-modem connectivity issue (albeit a simple IP addy issue, or a cable issue).
What kind of wireless router you using? Is it using the latest firmware for it?
Are you able to connect other wireless devices to the said router?
Are you able to connect your TyTN to some other AP (ie neighbours, cafe, starbucks, etc)?
did you try setting your wifi power mode to best performance
This was happening to me recently after I replaced my router...I ended up changing the channel the wlan was using from Auto (it was setting itself at channel 6) to channel 11. Channel 1 also worked. The other thing I did was disable the wireless speed enhancement features on the router. Now I can connect and surf with no issues...
I dont know what all that was about a vista pc but the OP's problem (from last november) would no doubt be that he had not set the wifi connection to connect to "the internet" or his device was set to use a network proxy for all connections.
With my trusty old Ipaq 5550 i could, but for some reason i cant with my Kaiser.
I had a look in the manual but couldnt find this.
Any tips?
It should work automatically.
Perhaps in your comm manager, active sync is greyed out and needs to be enabled.
Or perhaps in your configuration screen: connections tab, usb on pc (or sometinglike that), you can (un)check a box about advanced network connectivity.
yes for me work You must change in Connections->Advanced->Select network first field where you have your ISP to My Work Network.

EXACTLY.
Mine was checked, once i UNchecked it. I had internet conectivity.
I have all default and CHECKED use advanced network functionality and it works fine, even when syncing over bluetooth I can get to the internet through ActiveSync
Thanks, been wanting to do this for ages.
Now I have got it working.
Okay, this is a long message but I have had a unique problem in which I had to fiddle with activesync and my PDA for several days to figure it out. So in case this is your problem look here.
Scenario:
At my work we have a proxy server. When i connect my phone to my computer, even though activesync and my PDA are set to connect properly neither my phone nor my computers internet works. I fooled with this, posted on the forums and finally found a way to fix it.
Steps:
1)Change your PDA's advanced network settings in the network management area to BOTH be "mywork network". Do this before plugging in to activesync.
2)load an internet page with streaming content, or constantly refresh a web page if your work blocks all sites!
3)Ensure that your activesync is set to connect to the "work network".
4)Plug in your phone (be sure that data is still streaming on your desktop, if an active connection isn't streaming on your desktop Windows uses logarithms to decide which connection to use as an internet source).
5)Let activesync load and syncronize. Once it is syncronized, go back to your pda's network management page and change the two options BACK to MEdia Net or whatever data service you use on your cell phone. NOTE: Be sure that media is streaming all the way until you change your PDA's options BACK to the proper internet source for your phone and test it by loading a web page. Once the phone is set as it's own internet source and the desktop still has it's active LAN connection you should be golden.
I know you shouldn't have to do this but at least with my works network and their proxy server if i don't do it this way i will NEVER be able to use the internet on either device.
The reason for this is because of Microsoft's crappy network capabilities. In activesync 4.0 + they made activesync use an actual network connection, you can view it via the network connection page. So with some networks (not all) it tries to use your phones connection as the active internet network and vice versa at times.
Hope this helps somebody out there as this drove me nuts!
So far i'm the only person that has had the problem (on this forum, at least that has responded to my threads). But i'm sure there are a couple other people that have annoying problems with their work and activesync.
Thanks,
Luke
Thanks a lot alaiwy, worked just fine for me!
For the AT&T Tilt & AT&T ROM's you also need to disable the Proxy.

are you sure that you are using the "right" encryption? perhaps you have wpa2
(tkip or aes) and the device checks only wpa? or you enter the wrong password in
wep, then the connection looks like it is established, but you can do nothing with it!
just a thought...
yep

Stupid question tbh but I see this sort of thing every day nearly..
Your subnet is the same as the router yes? Does dhcp allocate one out to you or have u got a static ip on the phone?
Despite being connected to the wifi access without being on the same network you will not gain net access.
Who is your carrier for cell service? If you're on AT&T, and you've run an auto-setup CAB file for your cellular network settings, then you may need to double check your connection and proxy settings. Usually the solution is to select the correct network connection and NOT try to use your carriers proxy when you're connected via Wifi.
If you ARE on AT&T, then do this... Go to Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections > Advanced tab > Select Networks button. Set both drop down entries to MEdiaNet... for most this will have NO adverse impact (assumes you have a data plan too). OK to save selections.
Now go back to those MEdiaNet drop down selections. Edit either one of them. Go to the Proxy Setting tab. Uncheck the second box indicating this network connection uses a proxy. OK the settings... enjoy non-proxied Internet freedom via Wifi.
If you're not on AT&T, maybe the same proxy issue could be present. But I couldn't help you with your settings. Hope this helps.

hey..thank you for having little think about it..but im in the uk..t-mobile and those settings having nothing to do really with connecting to my wifi at home..except tell my phone it can..which i did..
all the settings are correct...exactly the same settings im using on other wm devices but when they say its connected i can actually do something..rather than on the diamond where it says its connected but doesnt allow me
ive set the phone up identical to another wm6 phone in every way..that connects fine and i can use my wifi ..this phone i cant
Have you tried connecting to a different wifi router, a friend or whatever?
If you can connect there, then that narrows down the problem to your settings, or your router, or the router setup
Do you know anyone else with a Diamond that could try to see if they could connect to your router?
If they can connect but you can't then you could take a look at their connections. Or it could mean a faulty device. If they can't connect either, then this will give you some clues.
I'm assuming that you've deleted the connection and reformed it. Did you choose work or the internet? Have you tried changing that.
Have you tried changing the Authentication to Shared?
Each time you make a change you need to let it 'set' for a few seconds and then reboot.
Can you connect to the internet via Activesync pass-through?
Sorry, that's all I can think of at the moment. If something else occurs to me I'll post back.
Hi.. I'm not sure if this will help or if you already have tried it.
But I had the same problem and the solution was this:
Pres start -> Settings -> Connection -> Wireless Lan -> power mode
Now use best settings, instead of battery save. ( Im not sure if the translation is 100% right. Translated from danish Diamond)
At the start I couldn't load any pages with Wi-fi, though there was no problem with the connection from the router. But now it works like a charm

This was the solution for me
I have had the same problem Imy phone even should be picked up by the repair centre then as a last try someone gave me the idea to change the leaver at wireless lan/energymodus to the left (best conection) and whala, I have tried it later whit my phone almost on the wirelesspoint to set it to best batterymode but not even at the middle it would do anything, it says conected but no data is comming to the phone, just when the leaver is at his almost left it will work.
Good luck.

Hi,
I have set up my X1 to be able to connect to my company's VPN to retrieve my emails and stuff.
However, once connected, I will be be able to surf the internet anymore. Is there a setting which we can do like disabling 'Use Default Gateway on Remote Network' like our PCs?
Cheers!
Neo
It's not a bug, and it's not related to the mobile phone either. VPN access on any OS always disable the internet access. That's we call security
I faced this before,
i went to the network administrator and explained to him, and he fixed it!
not from my X1, it was a network configuration.
actually there are 2 ways to get the internet.
1st is through the VPN it self (you will use your company internet connection) your connection will be
X1 -> VPN -> Company -> internet Request -> Company -> VPN -> X1
2nd is through special config in their VPN routing things (i don't know what it's called really) so simply when you request the emails, the connection will be routed to VPN, otherwise it will be through your regular GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA/WiFi
the 2nd option is the best (but i think it requires a newer hardware as it's a relativly new technolog) because it will not waste the company's internet bandwidth.
check with your network administrator, they can help
By the way, the BlueFire VPN client can optionnally allow internet access from your mobile directly to the internet
Thanks for the reply guys. I will tryyour suggestions!
Cheers!
I think its called split tunnel when internet traffic goes direct and intranet goes down vpn tunnel.
I had same problem with my laptop and xp, our company changed the policy and everything has to go through tunnel (split tunnel disabled). With an earlier version of the Cisco vpn client I could mess with the routing table to revert to split tunnel - You may be able to do this on the X1, change the routes somehow?

Yes that's what i was talking about, Split Tunneling must be enabled

Yeah, Split Tunneling roxx
Can anybody help me configuring a Cisco ASA5505 to be able to get connected with my X1 over VPN? The PC-Clients are working, but it seems to be the same issue like they cant connect trough Windows builtin VPN client, only by using the one from Cisco (which is much better).
But i don't like to loose Security by setting lower policy settings for connecting without Cisco software.
Does anybody knows about the Cisco client for Windws Mobile? When i visited "Systems"-fair last year in Munich a Cisco employee told me they are working on it.
Could you maybe ask your administrator again and let us know how he did your option #2?
Anyone else know how to do split tunneling in Windows Mobile?

Hello This guide is made up from the knowledge i have build up from advice given on XDA and information on other sites.
I have found this very useful in my home and hope you do to.
First off, this guide explains everything you need to do to use your diamond as the access point to the internet at home for all devices. (PC's, PS3, XBOX360, Wii)
It is highly recommended that you have a unlimited data allowance!!!!! Otherwise you could have a hefty bill at the end of the month.
Right what you will need :
A Diamond with an unlimited data allowance tariff,
A WiFi router (i have used an old router that was installed with Tiscali BB)
WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (please find this your self i will not provide it)
and some basic knowledge of networking on PC's and your devices.
Thats it. Please don't be put off by the networking side of things its really easy to do.
Right first off we need to get your diamond taking to your router.
switch on your router and let it do its thing for 2-4 mins
Connect your diamond to the wifi router by switching on your wifi in settings, communications on touchflow, when prompted, connect to your router and enter your network key.
THIS IS THE SAME PROCESS AS CONNECTING TO A WIFI HOTSPOT.
Its that simple.
Next switch off your wifi in settings, communications.
Install WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (Simple and stable)
once installed open WMWifiRouter and press connect.
This should then setup your phone to be used as a access point and connect to your wireless network all at once.
Once it says connected you can turn off your phones main screen by pressing the off switch at the top and put your phone where there is best signal! HSDPA is needed to get up 7.2mbps (little H in signal area)
Right now you need to setup your laptop or device to talk to the phone via your router!
So here are the settings you need to setup in either TCP/IP (manual connection) or a manual connection on your device (PS3, Wii, XBOX360).
I will use a laptops connection as a example because all you need to do is to copy the settings to another device using a different IP address.
If you use wifi or a hardwired connection, right click the telly with the wifi connection in the bottom right of the screen and click open network connections (XP only dont know for vista), Or if the telly is not displayed in the bottom righthand cornner of the task bar then click start, control panel, network connections.
Click on the connection you wish to use i.e local area connection or wireless network connection (you can setup both connections by repeating these steps on each connection)
this should bring up a general tab of this connection, click properties.
This will bring up another box with the network properties, all you need to do is manually enter your IP settings and DNS settings so double click on "internet protocol [TCP/IP]"
Another box appears.
Click "use the following IP address"
In IP address type "192.168.0.xxx" xxx being the unique 3 digit code of your choice, write this down for your firewall settings on other devices if you run a networked drive etc. Each new device will need its own unique 3 digit code ie PC = 192.168.0.100, XBOX360 = 192.168.0.200, Wii = 192.168.0.123 etc.
In Subnet mask type "255.255.255.0"
In Default gate way type "192.168.0.1
Now click "Use the following DNS server address"
In preferred DNS server type "192.168.0.1"
Thats it, press ok and ok on any other boxes still left open.
Your network device will rest your IP and DNS settings to the ones you have just entered, thus allowing you computer to access the mobiles phones internet connection via your router
On all your devices Manually setup all your connections using these settings and they will all use your mobile phone to connect to the internet.
Using DHCP to configure your network is not advised as its unreliable at finding your phones connection.
Now if you want to start using your phone as a phone again, open up WMWifiRouter again if its not already and click options Quit.
To get internet access on other devices via your phone again all you need to do is to start WMWifiRouter and press connect. Start using the internet!!!
If you wish to use your laptop on another hotspot, you will need to reset the TCP/IP settings back to automatic, otherwise it will not work.
Using this process sometimes causes the phone to disable its own internet connection, so a soft reset after exiting WMWifiRouter is recommended.
Have fun, im sorry if its all a little messy but i have never been very good at writing these guides.
If any modd wants to add or edit this post then please feel free. any persons wanting to add to this guide please do so.
Yes i know you can connect your phone to your laptop by USB, Bluetooth, but this method allows multiple devices to use the same phone to access the internet at the same time and via a access point at the highest possible speed, so games consoles can use it!!! Brilliant if you get a good HSDPA signal and live in the country.
Oh one last thing! if you are a youngster and wish to try this, please do so on other equipment, don't use your family's main router and laptop or PC unless its no longer in use!!!
Thank You
i haven't tried it myself but thanks for posting the guide.
Cheers

Because the data going through the phone will really heat up the phone, as a side benefit you'll be able to use it as both a heater, and a stove until your appliances are hooked up.
Just how many torrents does it take to boil 1 cup of water?
I tried out wmwifirouter with my laptop and I must say it's quite slow compared to connecting the phone with USB and using internet sharing, any clue why? Nice guide btw, will be used when needed
:>
your are correct, if you use WMWfiRouter directly with with your computer it does seem slow and you also get a lot of drop outs as well for that reason i stopped using months ago and was using bluetooth edr. But using this method respose times are much much quicker (to be honest i dont know why) and it is just as fast as using with USB, i know i have tested it. Im on orange UK, i get constant 1.6mbps down and 360kbps up with two bars connected the HSDPA network.
Im using it right now to reply to this thread, i got rid of my land lane and broadband connection because this is that stable and fast!
As for heating issues (poster above) once its connected and you turn off the screen, i have never had a issue. i even keep it in its HTC pouch in case it falls of the shelf its on lol.
The only problem i have come across which is more of a annoyance than anything is that when someone phones you it can slow your connection not always though, a soft reset fixes the issue.
Any more questions feel free.
