Missing camera and unable to apply ROMs via memory cards - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

Some time ago I upgrade from WM5 on my ATT Treo750 to WM6 (non-ATT). A few months ago the camera snopped working and is now no longer even listed as existing.
I thought maybe I could reinstall WM6 to restore the camera or upgrade to WM6.1 for the same reason. After copying the cheeimg.nbh file to my memory card (formatted FAT32) and doing the PTT+Pin Reset all that happened is I get the 4 color bootloader screen but nothing happens.
At this point I thought maybe I needed to unlock the phone so I downloaded the CheetahUnlocker program and gave that a shot. Part way through step 2 I found myself unable to establish an ActiveSync connection and could not continue with the unlock.
Now the bootloader displays CHEE100 IPL-0.20 and CHEE100 SPL-1.40.Olinex so I am assuming the bootloader was fixed. But it still does nothing but sit on that screen until I pin reset again, whether I use a WM6 or WM6.1 image.
What am I missing here?

T-Mobile Vario Unlocked and using Orange! Now to flash ROM?

Hi,
Thanks to the very clever people over at www.imei-check.co.uk I now have an unlocked T-Mobile Vario.
http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php
I now wish to know if I can flash my unlocked Wizard with an Imate K-Jam2 flash?
I know there is another post on flashing the the Qtek 9100 with the K-Jam but I dont know if the T-Mobile Vario will pose any different issues or problems.
What I want to know is :-
1) Can it be done, can I flash my T-Mobile Vario with a K-Jam2 ROM?
2) How do I make a backup of my T-Mobile ROM before taking the plunge?
I am a Sony Ericsson P900 convert so please be gentle with me on your responses. I'm no expert but have got this far (Unlocked) by reading these and other forums.
If any of you can help out I would be most gratefull.
Cheers
Lee
I have (had) a Vario from T-Mobile Netherlands. I unlocked like you and ran the ROM upgrade utility for Qtek 9100, available for download on :-
http://www.beyondthetech.com/blogs/kjam/
It works fine. My Dutch phone now talks to me in English.... phew!
@belgilux
What are the advanges of the qtek rom over the vario ??
Niets dat ik kan bespeuren. Enkel is ding dat zijn in WWE - wereld Wijde Engels - dit is good voor mij aangezien mijn Nederlands niet zo goed is. ..
ok thanks ,
mijn nederlands is goed , dus hou hem liever in nederlands

Hey, guys, I have the same problem - I want to change the OS from a german to en english one. My device is the XDA Mini S from O2 Germany. Do I *really* need to pay for unlocking first or I can just flash it?
P.S. How did you back up the ROM before the flashing?
hello ingenious ,
as far as i know , you have to unlock it first otherwise you can't acces the bootloader.
buckup of your old rom can be done (only after unlocking).
you need the program romupdate.exe
disable activesync on usb connection
turn off phone
connect usb cable while pressing camera button
start romupdate
chooice usb connection
enter 'r2sd all' this coppies your phone rom to your sd card (sd card will be erased !!!!!)
next step is to dump the sd card to file to store.
you need ntrw.exe and sd card reader
in a dos box in a dir with ntrw enter 'ntrw read dump.nb1 drive_letter_of_reader:'
that will dump you entire sd card to file.
to restore , but it back with ntrw write .......
reset phone while holding voice an camera button and chooise restore from sd card.
good luck , arnold
p.s. i'm wrinting this out of my memory so forgive me if i have something wrong.
Hey, thanks very much
Just a thing bothers me still... If I unlock the phone (i.e. replace the boot loader) won't I just lose my warranty from O2?
mhh that doesn't worry me to much,
officiali it will only void your warrnaty if they can proof that that is the problem.
if not they can not hold it against you (in holland that is) , but you may have to 'fight' for your warranty.
grtx , arnold

but he boot NOT from the sd card ... where is the trick ?

I have successfully replaced the ROM on my MDA Vario with a K-Jam ROM and now I want to go back to the original ROM. Following the instructions by arnoldl earlier in this thread I created a backup dump.nb1 file and used ntrw_189.exe in a CMD window to dump this to a file. This took bloomin' ages since I have a 1GB card - very tiresome!
Anyway, I have now reversed that process to copy the dump file back to the mini-SD card but when I hard reset my Vario I do not get a prompt to restore from the SD card. I only have options to restore to original settings or cancel.
I have allowed a hard reset to complete and the mini-SD card does not even register in the Vario. Removing and reinserting does nothing. I've tried a hard reset twice and still no joy.
Assuming I have successfully created a working ROM image on my mini-SD card are there any other tips or options for restoring it to the Vario ROM?
anyone knows the keys to press for restore an image from sd card ?
I have tried all combinatiosn of keys, but nothing are working
regards
sorry , it is hold camera and voice comm button while resetting.
previes state must be on!!
grtx arnold
Thanks for that. I just realised it says hold camera and voice comm rather than comms and voice comm, like you would normally do for a hard reset.
I've tried a boot with the correct buttons and could see nothing at all on the screen. I now realise there is something but without a backlight it is nigh on impossible to see. Anyway, I spotted that too late and started button mashing to try to get the thing to spring into life. It is now staring at me with a big clear white (lit) screen that dims briefly periodically. I now have no idea what is going on and whether this is the correct behaviour or not.
How long should the reflash take? Will having a 1GB card mean it takes 8 times as long as a 128MB card as it has to read the whole thing? How do I know if this is working OK?There are no progress bars or anything - just a plain white screen.
i did say comm and voice , but i just changed that
reflash was prety fast when i did it , within a minute i thought (256mb)
Oh dear :-( Mine's been blinking at me for 15 minutes now.
I just restarted the process and I managed to see a "Format BinFS Success" message and a progress bar at the bottom which I think said "Upload OS" or something like that - too difficult to read properly in today's miserable grey daylight. But I'm now staring at the plain white screen once more.
Maybe my ROM image is fried. Any ideas how to get hold of a clean T-Mobile UK MDA Vario ROM file?
EDIT : Further info......
Bored of the blank white screen I pressed the reset button on its own. The device reset and this time with the benefit of the backlight being on I could see the Format BinFS success message, a couple of checksum checks and something about downloading ROM and extended ROM. This all took only a minute or two, which seems positive. But then I saw a message about formatting FAT (or FAT32?) and while that was being displayed the screen faded/disolved to plain white and has resumed its periodic dimming.
Unfortunately I now have HTC Innovation and imate branding all over the thing so I can't just pop it back to T-Mobile to fix it. I wish they had a full ROM upgrade/replace image in a .exe, like qtek and imate.
hello,
what means "previes state must be on!! "
i have an 512 mb card and no chance to boot the sd. Has anyone
try the qtek german bin on the xda ftp server here ? i write this
image via ntrw on my 512 mb card, press the camera and voice button and also reset, but the sd card want recognize ...
help! I want this german qtek rom on my wizard.

i only got in this mode when resetting with the buttons pressed when phone was on.
when i first shut it down and then reset it didn't work.

Having left the white screen for a couple of hours there is no sign of anything useful happening. I reset the device and now I am dumped directly to the bootloader screen - there seems to be no software on the device now.
So it appears I can only get this thing up and running again with the k-jam ROM (or presumably Qtek) by running the .exe ROM upgrade file. But for me my option to go back to native Vario software seems to have vanished forever. Maybe I'm just really unlucky but this might serve as a warning/caution for others who want to flash their Vario.

Need help recovering after botched ROM flash

I was attempting to flash my ROM to wm6 crossbow, I used Lokiwiz 02b to CID unlock my G3 wizard. Then, I attemped to flash the rom using the RUU. The Shelltool .exe never finished flashing the rom (even after 1.5 hours), so I disconnected the USB and tried to re-sync Windows Mobile Device Center (using Vista 32) as per the directions, but it would not detect the phone. I then entered bootloader mode and tried to run the RUU that way, but vista crashed the program if no sync connection is found. So, I downloaded the latest t-mobile ROM, and flashed the phone through bootloader (curiously the flash seemed to work using t-mo's RUU) and it installed to 100%. However, the phone will not get past the white splash screen. This is what it displays:
IPL 2.26
SPL 2.26
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.26.10.2
I tried to un-rar the tmobile exe to a new folder and replaced the nk.nbf file with the file from the crossbow ROM. The t-mo RUU wouldnt read it properly and it crashed. Now the phone is sitting on my counter with it's battery pulled out for fear it mat discharge completely. Since i can get into bootloader mode with the "USB" display at the bottom, I know the device isn't bricked, but what can I do to get it up and running and hopefully flashed to wm6 crossbow? Thanks for any help!

Well Friend I hate to say it but Using Vista is your problem... The drivers in WMDC are different from those of activesync and thus Vista cannot talk to your phone in bootloader.
Follow this thread here:
Updated!!(10/20/2007) UPGRADE YOUR PHONE WITH WINDOWS VISTA!!! PROVEN METHOD!
Once you complete the steps in that thread, flash the Official T-Mobile Rom. I will be online for the rest of the night so I will walk you through everything if you would like me to. My AIM, Yahoo, and MSN messenger addresses are all at the top of every one of my posts.
First off, let me thank you for your help, as well as the time you have put in the community helping people like me. I had updated the driver before, but I guess several attempted flashed had overwritten the driver. Just now, I followed the link you gave me, updated the drivers, and flashed the T-mobile 2.26 ROM. The problem still remains. The RUU goes to 100%, shows me the finish/exit screen, mu wizard restarts, but hangs at the white boot screen and does not go any further.
Anyone? Need to get this phone up quick, as I am starting a new job soon and need the capabilities. BTW, i'm going to put XP on this laptop in dual-boot and see if I can get the t-mobile ROM to load fully using XP.

If you can manage that, you will be set. All you have to do is create a hard drive partition and install xp to that partition.(from what I know anyway)
OK, i'm gonna try that (my internet is dropping every 5-10 secs, so it'll take a little time) I do have one question though- Last time I used Loki's unlocker, I unlocked the SIM, then the CID unlocker. After the CID unlocker, it locked me out of the phone. The OS wouldnt load unless I provided an unlock code. Then i reflashed it, then the problems started. I think i didn't have it CID unlocked properly. Plus having my miniSD in the slot probably didnt help things either. I've read the directions several times, and I dont see what i'm doing wrong. Could you maybe shed some light on what i'm doing wrong? Thanks!
EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention that I tried to do a hard-reset (hold wireless manager + voive command buttons + soft reset) and when you press the send button, it tells me unable to format FAT volume or something like that. Upon reading around, it seems like i'm having the exact same problem as this poster: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=338315

Although, many have successfully flashed using vista, but I'll suggest in your condition flash through WinXP. Download the official carrier's Rom from it's website.
1. Disconnect your phone from the usb cable, shut down any firewall, disable any Anti virus,Reboot your PC.
2. On your Desktop PC, open Microsoft ActiveSync, then go to File >Connection Settings >Remove the Selection from “Allow USB Connection with this desktop computer”
3. On your PC Open windows Task Manager...>Tab Processes...>wescomm.exe...>End process
4. Power off the phone completely (Not stand-by,shut off completely),or you may take the battery out for few seconds
5. Make sure your phone is not Connected to the PC via USB cable and remove the dummy Sdcard or mini-Sd card
6. Get your phone into Bootloader mode (Multicolor screen) by pressing camera button + Power on button
7. Reconnect your phone to the Desktop PC using the USB Cradle and the Charger MUST be Connected to the Cradle (Be sure that your battery is charged over 70%)
8. "USB"will appear on the bottom of the screen of the Bootloader (Multicolor screen)
9. Run the Upgrade again and it will work fine without any problems.
10.Never use Bluetooth sync for the Upgrade
While upgrading, the ActiveSync program will not go on, however the upgrade is running. Please be patient when you're flashing your device, even if 98%. It can wait a little bit, 5 ~ 7 minutes.
Don't cancell the flash or get the phone off the usb cable till it confirms "Congratulations" or stops with an Error!!!
Hope it'll recover back to it's default status, good luck
I'm going to assume I don't have to CID unlock it until I want to switch from the T-mobile 2.26 ROM? I am about to install XP dual-boot shortly. I'll post my results when it's done. Thank you.

As long as you are going to keep T-Mobile 2.26 on your device or are restoring T-Mobile 2.26, you do not have to CID unlock but should you decide to change to another Rom, you will need to CID unlock.
Good luck on the dual boot. There is a detailed tutorial in my Signature if you would like to take a look at it. After I can restore my crashed laptop, I am going to take care of the dual boot also.(I have to do it again... )
I really want to put WM6 on my wizard, and customize it the way I want it. Do you have any favorite WM6 ROM? All day yesterday I spent trying to add a WinXP partition to my Vista laptop. Not fun. First, I shrank the only partition on the drive (where Vista is installed) using Disk management, the Diskpart.exe to create a new 2.5Gb partition to install XP on. I rebooted the labtop with a XP disk, and installed XP on the partition. After the laptop restarted the first time, it did not come back up (black screen, no CD activity), So I changed the boot options in BIOS to HDD, and the Vista partition responded with "Error loading operating system" on a black screen. So now, i've got a laptop with a corrupted Vista install, A partition with partially installed XP on it, a XP disk that just quits working, and my wizard is shot. Normally something I can deal with if I had my desktop, but unfortunately my entire house is packed up in storage, i'm living in a hotel, and the laptop and phone are all i've got. SO, against my better judgement, I went to the store and bought a Vista home basic upgrade DVD to fix my vista partition, and now i'm back on the net- and going to try anothe XP disk. Whew- what a pain in the ass.

It's better if you use 'PartitionMagic' software to create partition and install WinXp,as it has much advanced features as compared to built-in Disk Management. It also has the option to create a partition in the same one partition to install new OS.
I tried that first, too bad it doesnt work in Vista.
Woo Hoo!!! Success!!
Alright! I got it fixed! What I did:
1- Spent $42 on a CID unlocker from: http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php
After i recieved the files from the via email (about 10 minutes) I ran their unlocker program with the file they emailed me. This CID unlocked the wizard.
2- I flashed button's ROM: http://rapidshare.com/files/18212239/CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe.html
I had to flash it twice until it showed a IPL/SPL of 1.01
3- Followed this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276963&highlight=splash+screen+freezing
(make sure you use a blank SD card, as it will require you to format the card to make it useable again after your'e done)
4- Remove battery, and restart phone, BOOM! Button's ROM works fine!
5- Now upgrade to any ROM you like (WM6 etc.)

WM6 Upgrade interrupted?

Hi all.
I have been trying to update the Treo 750 (generic unbranded) to Windows Mobile 6. During the installation process (about 2/3rds of the way through), the screen reverted to "Device Connection Failure". The device was not touched or interrupted in any way. The screen just flicked straight to Device Connection Failed in the wizard.
I clicked try again but to no avail. The PC no longer recognises the Treo (Unknown item in USB and says the device is not recogized or has malfunctioned).
I now have a device that does not work at all. It boots through the Palm screen to the Windows Mobile splash page (which looks like the new WM 6 colours) but then just sticks there. I have done soft and hard resets, left the battery out for 20 mins but nothing happens.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
David

Not sue if this will help or not:
My situation was slightly different but with very similar results - 750 did not go past the WM6 splash screen, about 2/3rd through the upgrade. I ran the 750 Recovery Tool and the upgrade completed successfully.
The instructions can be found here: http://www.palm.com/au/support/treo750/downloads/wm6update_recoverytool.html
(this was with the 3 ROM).
Y.
or you can just try the sd card method
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Cheetah_Upgrade
At the moment, the PC won't even recognize the Treo 750 anymore. Rebooted etc but just get "Device Malfunctioned" when I connect the USB. I can't do anything without the device connecting. Any ideas on this?
Went back and did the SD Card method as suggeted. Worked first time so this is obviously the path of least resistance! Thanks to those who responded.

my palm has no reaction
Hi,
I have the followed the SD method. After the hard reset,
my palm just hung on the startup screen.
Any idea? I'm stuck!!!
Kenny
Make sure you have formatted to FAT32 on your sd card. I had the same problem and tried a different 1 gb sd and it worked. Make sure the CHEEIMG. that you copy to your card has the same kb's as the original.

Upgrade problem-Totally stumped

Hi
My Orange SPV M700 was successfully unlocked and radio upgraded and hard spl installed as per trinityguides.info with original Orange WM5. However I am now trying to upgrade the ROM to lastest dopod WM6, but cannot get past the bootloader using both usb cable or SD card methods. With usb the bootloader recognises the USB but activesync says there is no phone connected. If I softreset out of bootloader into the orange WM5 OS activesync connects OK.
I then tried the SD card method of renaming the .nbh file but it won't boot and just comes up with the bootloader screen. I've hard/soft reset the phone with no difference. It looks like I'm stuck with the factory WM5 orange ROM until I can resolve this issue as I've tried 2 PCs with XP and Vista and have now run out of ideas.
Although the phone works fine it appears there is some fault either with the hardspl bootloader or some or something introduced when it was unlocked/ radio ugraded?
Anyone got any ideas?
Help!!!
Possibly too late and possibly already tried, but when it is connected to your PC and in bootloader, the tri-colour screen, try running the upgrade again. Ignore what Active Sync says as at this point there is no PPC fror it to connect to.
I would also try one of the other ROMs, i tried the DOPOD ones and failed to get them to load, everything else i tried from here worked just fine.

Treo 750 3 Hutch ROM

Hi,
I'm hoping someone could help me here please.
My Australian 3-branded (locked I think – never used another SIM in it) Treo 750 has stopped booting into Windows WM5. It stops at the Palm loading screen as the progress bar gets to the end.
I got it to boot again by doing a hard reset once. Then a couple of hours later when I took the battery out to put the SIM back into it (I had the sim out while I was hard resetting) the same thing happened again and it's been like this for a few days now. No matter how many times I hard reset it won't get past the Palm loading screen.
I've also tried to load an unofficial ROM to fix it using instructions found here but doesn't seem to want to load it (perhaps because the phone is not unlocked). I put the CHEEIMG.nbh file onto a formatted FAT32 miniSD and perform the hard reset pressing the PTT and reset button next to the memory card and it just says loading... and goes back to the tri-colour bootloader, with "Serial" down the bottom. I've formatted this card several times and tried also several times.
Would uploading an official ROM perhaps work? I don't have any official ROMs to try - does anyone have one they could upload from here please?
I'm limited in my options for unlocking and loading software as I can't get it to boot!
I'd be most grateful if anyone could help please, thanks.
