I'm currently running the Opera browser on the stock AT&T Rom. It's not bad but have two issues:
1) I have the screen set to 'mobile view' to make it conform more to the street. When it toggles between landscape and portrait (deliberately or accidentally via gyro) what I end up with when it comes back to portrait is a full size view with a very minimized column in the middle almost as if it fully unzoomed from the mobile view. Of course at this point it won't rezoom so the only thing to do is reload the page.
2) Mobile view sometimes starts off to the side completely blank screen and I need to scroll all the way over to the where the page is formatted.
I did some web searches and I don't see anyone else reporting these odd bugs so if there's something I can do let me know. Otherwise, if someone can tell me how to select a different default browser that would be great (never had to do it before).
Thanks in advance for any insight.
Well given 88 views maybe I should ask this a different way...
Is anyone else experiencing any of the above issues or is it just me?
Opera tears alot if browsing a page with heavy flash and enabled. If this is not the case, then try a hard reset, and see if that fix your problem. Maybe a software conflict somewhere!

does anyone else have the problem of the OSK popping up all the time? I had Opera Mobil installed and when going to the imported PIE favorites it came up every time I scrolled through the list as each time a new favorite was selected the coursor bounced between the URL bar and the shortcut...
It was so annoying I had to stop using Opera as I found no way to stop it. It also does it in PIE but not near as much... it comes up automatically when I hit a text box ...same for SMS and email....
Any way to get this stopped?
nobody else having this problem?
I have now seen the issue on 3 Tilts... it is tied to the first time you use the on screen keyboard ... from that point forward everytime you hit a text box, it comes up. for SMS, email and MMS that is ok but when looking at bookmarks in Opera Mobile it is very annoying since it constantly pops up as one scrolls down through the list.
Anyone have an idea of where the OSK registry keys are?
solution found!
I contacted HTC via AT&T (ya I know I loose cool points for doing such a thing) but hey the support was excellent and they provided a workaround in about 10 minutes. It is not clear what is actually triggering this but the solution works as I verified it in SMS, Word and Opera Mobile.
Solution:
Go into Mobile Word, slide out the keyboard. this shoud make the OSK dissapear. hit the space bar one time and ok out of word. slide in the keyboard and test your applications for the OSK popping up every time you hit a text box....it no longer happens but the problem may return the next time you decide to actually use the OSK so repeat the process when necessary.
I have the same problem - I hate that every time a text box appears on anything, the OSK appears even when the keyboard is slid out. It's infuriating in Opera.
Your trick doesn't seem to work for me. When I run Word, the OSK doesn't seem to appear ever, even when the keyboard is closed.
I wish there were a reghack or something to ONLY show OSK when I hit the icon on the bottom.
I have similar problem in Opera Mobile. I'm using WM 6.1 and the similar problem was found with WM5 and 6 as well, so I think it is something to do with version of Opera Mobile. Mine is 9.0 build 331.
for what it's worth, ive had the same problem with WM 6.0 and 6.1 when using MyMobiler to display my phone on my computer screen (i switch between skyfire and PIE as my browser. never used opera mobile). if im going to be using the phone in 'tilt' mode for any amount of time (ie, like when it is plugged into my computer), i had to install null keyboard and use it as my primary OSK. not the best solution, but it will keep the OSK from popping up all the time.
I updraded to Opera Mobile 9.5 and it is okay now
Just like I feared.
Can someone explain what is going on with images in Opera 9.5?
In 8.65 images were downloaded in native format: zoom in and you could see all the detail; download and you would have the original image in all its glory.
In Opera 9.5 all I get is blocky, condensed images: zoom in and all I see is a mass of coloured blocks with no detail; downloading images is useless.
The worst part of this is that I can't read the xda forum properly (I can't decipher images posted of rom benchmarks and the like.)
Why is this, and how can it be corrected?
First off.. you couldn't have posted in the opera 9.5 thread?
anyways, are u using the latest build? i was browsing xda-devs for a good hour last night before going to bed with opera 9.5 and it worked flawlessly.. the word wrap feature made reading through posts a breeze!
what internet connection are u on and how many other apps do you have open?
I did originally post this in an Opera thread but it just got lost amongst the general exitement, without receiving any response. I am grateful that you have taken the time to look at it.
Don't get me wrong; this is an excellent app port. It runs very smoothly and is great to look at. Kudos to the devs.
I just assumed that there must be something in the settings that controls the rendering of images, as i get images that have greatly reduced detail downloaded. This happens regardless of my connection type and available system resources.
Maybe its a quirk of the Presto system. Does no-one else experience this? (it is not immediately apparent only shows up when you either 'save as' an image or when you zoom right in.
i too get this problem.
when first installing the app all pictures seem fine.
after using it a few times, id say maybe five or six or maybe after a soft reset that this starts happening.
I too have noticed that Opera does some kind of image processing that degrades the image quality. Even when I go directly to the image URL I often can't zoom to a true 100percent. On some occasions images are completely pixelated and undecipherable. Not all the images on a page will degrade the same amount, either. This is one of my pet peeves about the new Opera, I hope it is a bug and we find a fix in the near future.
In opera browser the screen rotates very rarely or at all , I mean is not very responsive ( the G sensor ) ... but in Pictures instantly when I rotate the phone so is the picture... what do you guys think?
i got the same problem...
any1 got a clue what could be/ how to solve this?
another one reports here,
same problem, works great in Pictures, but in opera it is as slow as hell....
Had similar problem today, which led me to recalibration of Gsensor. After that i ran the Opera browser, and screen rotated much faster than before. Hope it helps...
Edit: noticed that screen rotation response is also better and faster in Photos/Album too...
done that still no joy
At the beginning I wait until the page is loaded and then rotate. It is not so responsive in the middle of the page loading process...i can live with that...
Did you guyzz try the latest Opera version?
everytime i rotate the phone... opera rotates and the phone goes back to home screen... i have to go back into opera via task manager, and its back on portrait again...
I'm having this problem too, and it's bugging the hell out of me. I've calibrated the g-sensor, but it's still not working very well. I have Opera 1938 and SwiftBL V6.0 ROM. I don't use GSEN.
To make rotation work somewhat, I have to "snap" the Diamond from straight portrait to straight landscape. I can't have it slightly tilted away from me, like I would if I had it in my lap or on a table. However, with the Diamonds image browser it works fine, which makes me think that the problem lies within Opera.
I've tried using the tweak setting long-press home button to manually rotate screen, but this kicks me out of Opera and into TF3D. In SMS it works fine, though.
Teeter works great though, and that again makes me think that it's mostly a bad integration/calibration of the g-sensor in Opera that's the problem, eg. not very calibrated tresholds for rotation.
So we have to wait for a proper version of Opera.
the rendering of a webpage is very cpu intensive action, everything has to be recomputed for small display. if you change resolution (ie. rotate diamond) in the middle of the loading the page, it's bit too much for little diamond. just wait till the loading of the page finishes, and then rotating works ok. it can't be much better...
This is happening to me too (Telus version) but it only recently started happening. As soon as I rotate the screen - whether the page is fully loaded or not - it brings me to the Phone screen. I've accidently called people a couple times due to this so it's a bit frustrating.
I'm going to try hard resetting my phone and then slowly install applications and tweaks to see if I can figure out what's causing it.
I have this issue as well...I think Opera ios just trying to do too much....loading a page and rotn at the same time. After a while it seems to work better....I still think they have a long way to go to make this programe bug free and reliable

Same thing happens to me, on the same ROM.
Did you get any result doing this? I have the Telus ROM too and this is very annoying.
I have tried using GSen with the rom before, but uninstalled it. No change.
The only thing I suspect may interfere could be that I mapped a Long Key Press for screen rotation in apps like Inbox. I will try unmapping and post the results here.
I don't know how TouchFlo is integrated to the OS, but I wonder if manually changing the orientation of the screen somehow affects other components that could become "out of sync" with the current orientation... Could it be related to the version of one component? Looks like GSen does not work properly with Telus ROMS.
at least your opera get to go lanscape. When mine try to do landscape, it somehow open up the phone dialer and i get kicked out of Opera. Anyone know what this happens? Keeping it in portrait mode is fine, but the second i rotate it, it halts the program and open up phone dialer for no apparent reason!!

lude I was havving that problem too. I made a reg edit that helped with the phone dialer popping up on the touch and it seems to have helped me
i think it s HKLM>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>SHELL
I then set ShowTitleBarClock to 2
hope that helps

It works!.....but then it covers up my battery meter
I'm not sure what would show the battery icon....I use ariel battery metter
...same problem here...
(Telus)
Same as mine.
Rotation speed in Opera seems not real working when the phone rotated for vertical / horizontal orientation. I am wondering memory size whether it can support changes in high resolution display.
See whether it has upgrade version to speed up the function.
Does anyone know how to change the standard opera to make it view regular size webpages instead of only viewing mobile pages. I know there is a setting in settings but apparently that isn't making a difference. Has anyone else experienced this?

He is right. Go to a site like IPChicken.com and look at the Browser string under the 'Advanced' section and you'll see what Opera is reporting to each site you visit. Opera has a way to 'spoof' the User Agent to be like Firefox or IE 6 for example. Type in: about:config in the address bar, and scroll all the way down to User Agent and try 2 and 3 (Firefox & IE, respectively).

Hi
I don't have a problem with that, Always shows the "real" homepage, even youtube after installing the flash lite
hmm really?? everytime i go to youtube it takes me to m.youtube.com. Shoot even google goes to the mobile webpage. i wonder if i need to install flashlite to correct this? That doesn't make any sense though.
Try installing flashlite and see if its get any better =)
Didn't do a thing. When i got to youtube it takes me to m.youtube.com am i the only one with this problem?
Have you clicked on the link at the bottom which takes you to the full site and stores a cookie on your phone telling YouTube to send you to the full version next time?
Trying that as we speak
Yup just tried it and it works for youtube but other websites it doesn't. Like when i go to myspace and i click on view full desktop page it doesn't do anything besides go right back to the page i started at. I'm not sure what is going but it seems like maybe their are two different opera builds on these xperias. I wonder if that is possible
EDIT
I think it is the website i'm going to. Some just have errors i think. Has anyone tried to use orb.com? I can get it stream perfectly with IE but with Opera it tries to open it and it just crashes.
Orb works ok on opera for me as long as i can get a 3g signal
Everytime i try and use orb on opera it just crashes and closes. Did it work for you straight out of the box?
Since this thread is labelled in a general fashion, I'm not gonna open a new thread for my question, which is:
anybody managed to upgrade to a more recent Opera build?
The ones available work as in being able to browse the web, but they are buggy regarding keyboard input for example.
I upgraded to a newer version and it was extremely buggy. It crashed on me a couple of times. I like this one designed for the xperia. I don't like xperia's standard settings but after u change the settings its cool
One of the nice features of the touch pro was that the back button in opera was mapped to a hardware button. Is it possible to do this with the Xperia?
Yes straight out the box

I still have an issue. I can get it to stream but its really laggy through opera unless i use this pls winamp format but then i get errors here and there. I run it through IE and it streams perfectly. I've spent about 2 hrs going through the settings trying to find the cause of it but i can't seem to find it. When you use orb what format are u streaming in and what player are u using?
Windows media format (.asx)
and windows media player on the phone
hmmm i don't know why my video lags so much even on wifi. Audio comes in perfect whatever video i play is horrible unless i use IE. Anyone have any ideas what could cause this?
Could the orb be playing up, I just tried on wifi on both opera and ie and only managed to get streaming work once out of a few attempts. Kept getting server is busy.
How can I reinstall the SE Opera version? Where's the cab at? I managed to bugger up my version and now it won't load
Do a hard reset
Hey guys,
I've got a fuze and I just updated to the latest NRGY rom.
Problem I'm having is that I cannot page up/down with the opera browser. I've tried the 2/8 keys, the space bar, and even editing the input.ini file to assign other keys... Nothing has worked.
Any ideas?
Well, seeing that it might be a software issue (assuming your keyboard works in other instances :: Texting, etc..) have you tried scrolling with finger/thumb swipes? Opera Mobile was designed for "Touch-Use". If you can scroll with swipes, it might be a hardware issue with your keyboard.
If you can't scroll with swipes, visit www.opera.com and download Opera Mobile & install it yourself. It may fix the issue.
If all else fails, try using one of the Keyboard "re-mappers" to switch from TP -> Fuze, vice-versa.
[If this post offends you or seems to appear that I am "doubting your intelligence", I apologize. Just giving my two cents. Though the steps I have provided are extremely common, some people simply don't know. It's not their fault, we all had to learn once.]
Hope all is well,
Agent Zach.

Thanks Zach,
Keyboard is fine as it works with every other application. I know I could use touch, but I'm not used to touchscreen and like buttons. Will try your suggestions.
Steve
Are you using the Opera Browser that was pre-installed with your ROM?
If not, upgrade to 10.
Hoping that a fresh install of Opera will help you in this situation.
Just for the info:
When I use my Hardware "Arrows" on my keyboard in Opera, a cursor appears and is controlled by the Arrow keys. Makes non-touch navigation simple.
