Hey guys,
I've got a fuze and I just updated to the latest NRGY rom.
Problem I'm having is that I cannot page up/down with the opera browser. I've tried the 2/8 keys, the space bar, and even editing the input.ini file to assign other keys... Nothing has worked.
Any ideas?
Well, seeing that it might be a software issue (assuming your keyboard works in other instances :: Texting, etc..) have you tried scrolling with finger/thumb swipes? Opera Mobile was designed for "Touch-Use". If you can scroll with swipes, it might be a hardware issue with your keyboard.
If you can't scroll with swipes, visit www.opera.com and download Opera Mobile & install it yourself. It may fix the issue.
If all else fails, try using one of the Keyboard "re-mappers" to switch from TP -> Fuze, vice-versa.
[If this post offends you or seems to appear that I am "doubting your intelligence", I apologize. Just giving my two cents. Though the steps I have provided are extremely common, some people simply don't know. It's not their fault, we all had to learn once.]
Hope all is well,
Agent Zach.

Thanks Zach,
Keyboard is fine as it works with every other application. I know I could use touch, but I'm not used to touchscreen and like buttons. Will try your suggestions.
Steve
Are you using the Opera Browser that was pre-installed with your ROM?
If not, upgrade to 10.
Hoping that a fresh install of Opera will help you in this situation.
Just for the info:
When I use my Hardware "Arrows" on my keyboard in Opera, a cursor appears and is controlled by the Arrow keys. Makes non-touch navigation simple.

I'm currently running the Opera browser on the stock AT&T Rom. It's not bad but have two issues:
1) I have the screen set to 'mobile view' to make it conform more to the street. When it toggles between landscape and portrait (deliberately or accidentally via gyro) what I end up with when it comes back to portrait is a full size view with a very minimized column in the middle almost as if it fully unzoomed from the mobile view. Of course at this point it won't rezoom so the only thing to do is reload the page.
2) Mobile view sometimes starts off to the side completely blank screen and I need to scroll all the way over to the where the page is formatted.
I did some web searches and I don't see anyone else reporting these odd bugs so if there's something I can do let me know. Otherwise, if someone can tell me how to select a different default browser that would be great (never had to do it before).
Thanks in advance for any insight.
Well given 88 views maybe I should ask this a different way...
Is anyone else experiencing any of the above issues or is it just me?
Opera tears alot if browsing a page with heavy flash and enabled. If this is not the case, then try a hard reset, and see if that fix your problem. Maybe a software conflict somewhere!
When selecting input text fields in Flash applications no keyboard appears when I try. Since I cannot seem to find anyone else with the same complaint I'm unsure if it could be an issue specific to my configuration somehow. I'm using JPC, and have replaced Swype to get Swedish keyboard support.
Anyone noticed the same issue, or have a second to test it out?
Here is a page containing a basic swf with a input text field in flash:
http://www.ghostwire.com/blog/archives/as3-simple-editor-for-loading-and-saving-xml-as-binary/
Scroll down a little bit, below the text "(480×480 SWF, 2KB)" you will see an swf, provided that you are running a froyo firmware with the Flash Player.
When the swf has loaded, you'll see a large grey box which is an input text field. Touch it and the keyboard should open.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hi... I have a "similar" issue to this but am not sure exactly how related they are. I am still on 2.1 so I dont have 10.1 flash player but I get the same issue when I am on facebook using the "Skyfire" browser.
If I am trying to leave a comment on someones status for example, I can click on the text bubble and the keyboard pops up but as soon as I enter a letter the keyboard goes away and when I try to tap the text bubble again I get no keyboard at all.
Again, this souns similar and I know that skyfire is in beta still but if this is the same sort of problem you are having then I'd love for someone to explain why this is happening.
Anyone have any ideas?
When searching for anyone else with similar issues I saw that it happens to skyfire users, but I think that is unrelated. Skyfire is streaming flash content played back at their server to your device, and hence has some issues with interaction that is not related to the Flash Player as such.
If there is a way for them to open the keyboard when a text field in flash content becomes focused they probably have not got around to do that yet. They claim that their main focus is video playback, and I bet that it can be tricky to get all interactivity right.
Flash Player 10.1 should open the keyboard when a text filed is focused according to the specifications from Adobe, and considering that I don't manage to anyone complaining about issues with that I'm wondering if that is an issue unique to the Galaxy S, or even my device due to configuration issues.
If someone has a second to try the link in the OP it would really be appreciated.

I got the same issue, but found a workaround by place the cursor onto the text field, and then long press "menu" button.
Make sure the flash is not running in full screen mode.
Not a perfect solution, but at least it works.
My Droid 1 has a direction pad on the slide out keyboard which makes it nice for moving the cursor when entering in text instead of using your finger.
Does anyone know of a keyboard that can be installed that has a directional pad included? I got fat fingers and moving the cursor is hard enough lol. I'm running a few releases behind the newest Vegan build (just haven't backed up everything yet).
Thanks!
Bryan
(just realized this might want to be moved to the general section, not themes and apps.... sorry)
Smart keyboard use cursor keys.
Smart keyboard pro
Anyone actually managed to use them
I installed smart keyboard and Ultra keyboard but even when enabled the don't replace the existing keyboard. ( Vegan5.1 )
Using it now with tnt lite 3.1.2
Install with mod as discussed in other threads
Thumb keyboard is great for this tablet. Has cursor keys, and is easy to use. Can setup the layout for different size devices too.
Thanks for confirmation, I'll look for it

Do you actually know how to enable the keyboard? You have to select the checkmark in settings to let your tablet know it is available but to actually use the keyboard... You open something with a text box and then long press in the box. A popup should come up with input method as a selection. Tap that and all your keyboards will be there to pick from.
I only say this because I don't think you were doing the input method, change the keyboard thing...
Yes, I have them enabled the but I don't get the pop up to sellect the keyboard when I want to type. ( Working fine on my Desire phone)
Update, stupid me - long press in the text box
I am using thumb keyboard also and it has a great directional pad and seems to have great support. But either its the touch screen of the gtab or thumb keyboard cuz there is some serious issue of "lag" or lack of response. I am actually blaming the grab touch screen cuz I find it unresponsive in other places at times.

There was a thread awhile ago about touchscreen sensitivity, and a calibration apparently at boot. Search for 'calibration.ini'. It fixed the problem for lots of people.

I have found the directional keys on occasion to be a little slow myself. If you want to do the calibration of the screen just create a empty text file named calibration.ini and place it in the internal sdcard. I have one on the external also because I can never remember where it looks for it. Then reboot you tablet without touching the screen and it will do it's thing. You won't see it do anything, but it seems to work.
thumb keyboard
i also use thumb keyboard. goto handango to purchase it. less than 2 bux and its the best keyboard for gtab
ill have to give these a try out! Thanks!
Looks like the latest version of SwiftKey has added in a Tablet specific keyboard with arrow keys when in landscape...

Saw the video of it, looks great. Searched for it but can't find that version yet. Hope it will show up as an update soon.
OK, what am I doing wrong...
I installed several different keyboards (the free versions until I know they work for me) and I can not get any of them to be selected. I go into the settings and I see them listed and no matter how many times I press the checkbox they will not select. If I go into the settings for any of these new keayboards I get a force close.
Running TNT Lite 4.10 now. Same thing was happening on older versions.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

That is a known issue with TnT. There settings menu doesn't let you select keyboards. I don't use TnT anymore but there is a way to change the settings app to the normal Android type, select the keyboard, and then there is a way to go back to the TnT settings menu and they stick. Pain in the A.. You can't just change the settings menu and leave it because it hoses up other things. There are a couple other ways I think people do it but you just need to search for "alternate keyboards" or something like that.
I personally can't stand anything TnT and run vegaN.
I get a force close when using either Smart Keyboard Pro or Thumb Keyboard. Force closes only began after repartitioning .....any ideas?? I was successfully running Smart Keyboard Pro before repartition.
Hi guys, I hope this is not a stupid question, and maybe somebody has already come up with a solution that I am not aware of, so here it is:
Has anybody figured out how to use the NTG hardware butons on the side in order to "Page Up" or "Page Down" in Opera or Opera Mini browser?
Scrolling with the touchscreen is prety painful and I really don't want to deal with NoRefresh or a modified kernel to enable FastRefresh if possible. I have already done both approaches and would really just prefer to map the buttons if possible.
Thanks,
Cedric

I have not found a working version with buttons.
The problem is that Opera Mobile does not support the concept of page down.
That is very strange and annoying.
As I've said in numerous places, I prefer to have my hard keys be page down & page up.
I think setting them to volume up and volume down is silly.
It's better engineering practice to fix things where they are broken.
My stock ReaderRMSDK and all my apps work on page down & page up.

I tried using the volume control. It does not work in the latest versions of Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. =(
I know that this is an issue that has been mentioned a few times, but I've not been able to determine if there's a complete solution, so I though it warranted its own thread.
The problem is that when using the hardware keybaord the [Shift] key has to be physically depressed to get a capital letter when typing in a web browser. In other apps, you can press and release [shift], and then press the letter you want the capital of.
I've tried a number of browsers, including the stock one, Chrome, Opera and Dolphin, and they all suffer from the same issue.
HOWEVER, the choice of on-screen keyboard seems to have an influence. If you are using the SwiftKey keyboard, then the problem goes away completely, and the shift key works fine all the time (the problem is that SwiftKey really interferes with the hardware keyboard inserting extra spaces after commas, and popping up suggested words, etc). When using the AOSP keyboard I've seen it both work, and not work, so my assumption is that the problem is intermittent with that keyboard. Swype, and all the "null keyboards" I could find in the Play store all seem to suffer from the issue.
I'm pretty certain this problem arrived with the Jelly Bean update. Does anybody know of a solution other than installing SwiftKey and having to put up with it interfering with the hardware keyboard?
Firefox doesn't seem to suffer from this issue, so from that I am concluding that it's something to do with the type or class of text box used in most browsers (not Firefox), and that SwiftKey is handling them differently to the other keyboards I've tried.
