Hi guys, I hope this is not a stupid question, and maybe somebody has already come up with a solution that I am not aware of, so here it is:
Has anybody figured out how to use the NTG hardware butons on the side in order to "Page Up" or "Page Down" in Opera or Opera Mini browser?
Scrolling with the touchscreen is prety painful and I really don't want to deal with NoRefresh or a modified kernel to enable FastRefresh if possible. I have already done both approaches and would really just prefer to map the buttons if possible.
Thanks,
Cedric

I have not found a working version with buttons.
The problem is that Opera Mobile does not support the concept of page down.
That is very strange and annoying.
As I've said in numerous places, I prefer to have my hard keys be page down & page up.
I think setting them to volume up and volume down is silly.
It's better engineering practice to fix things where they are broken.
My stock ReaderRMSDK and all my apps work on page down & page up.
I think setting them to volume up and volume down is silly.

I tried using the volume control. It does not work in the latest versions of Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. =(

I have had more time to play with the Diamond, so far, here are some of the things that can really ruin the experience:
1. Sometimes, in Opera, when tilting the screen to horizontal you exit Opera and end up in the dialler!? Why does this only happen sometimes? I thought it was a conflict with G sensor, but it happens even when it's disabled.
2. The home button sometimes stops working until I do a soft reset.
These two issues drive me insane!! I have searched for workarounds but have found none. Any advice?
S.
A workaround for home button not working?
Sometimes, when in the phone log, the ok button disaper, and the home button is not working (or any of the other buttons). But when this happens, i press the start menu to bring up the startmenu in WM, then press the home button. This will then bring back the home screen, and everything works ok.
Thanks for the reply Ohansen. I hope there's a better fix than that, the home-screen button should always work!

Probably a heap of people read it it and sighed, "another person who has not found the search function, someone else will have the energy to answer".
Your issue 1 is a known issue and is ROM specific. Flash a different ROM and it will go away. Well to clarify, the Opera version may have an effect to. But for me at least the fix was to switch to another ROM and all came good.
Ohhh, so snobbery is the reason then? I tried the search and what I did find was threads with 30+ pages! What's wrong with asking for some concise help or even direction?
Thanks for the reply though. I'm using Swift BL, v.6 with the latest Opera included with it. Too bad if I have to flash, I like this ROM a lot...
Snobbery or laziness. I don't know. I just did a search for Search = opera dialler but I agree it is hard to get the search to work in this forum as it is somewhat convoluted.
In any case I suspect you may need to flash another ROM to fix it. When I had the same issue (Panosha Rom) it was sporadic and was only effecting me and one other guy but importantly with the same ROM. Have not seen the issue again since.
Thanks for the reply! I'll update to v.6.2 Swift and see if that helps.
Another issue I just thought of, can you please tell me how to exclude opera, teeter, the picture browser and coreplayer from Gsen? I have read the readme file but don't understand it...
Hello xda dev members, I was wondering if some of you could help me with the following.
On my Diamond I recently installed PocketGBA, and I'm having problems finding a good way to setup the d-pad buttons (left, right, up, down). Up and down aren't a problem but left and right are, seeing theres not really any hardware buttons for that around the circle.
I'm guessing this could also be a problem with other apps/games. Does anyone have a suggestion on that buttons to use or on how to set this up?
Thank you
tis a problem, i have given up with the d-pad, only play games with on-screen controls
Thanks for your reply, however I dont exactly want to give up on PocketGBA
Is there anyone out there who found a useful setup for this? To make it playable? Most of the controls can be placed on screen, except for the d-pad. Which I guess would be a pain to use when on screen anyway..
If anyone knows of a way, please let me know. Thanks.
Is there a way to remap left hardware button to TouchFLO 3D home tab? I had a Diamond, was used to home button, and I want the XPeria left button to have the same behaviour.
It was hard for me to find that too, but then I realized that I can go to home tab by pressing the hang up button.
Start -> Settings -> Personal -> Buttons and map hw button of choice to "today".
Dont get me wrong, but was it really THAT difficult to just try and look for it by yourself on your phone?? It's not some fancy registry tweak..just a plain simple wm option as old as the world. Sometimes i wonder how many people buy a certain device "because it looks so cool" or "omg that ad is awesome!" and have actually NO IDEA of what's inside what they are buying...hope you don't fall within this category.

MacCarron, if you think I'm such a newbie and don't know what I'm doing, you are so wrong.
Wanna try something? Do what you said to me, map left button to "today". Now, in TouchFLO 3D, go to another tab, Internet, for example. Now press the left button, which you did happen to map to "today" (at least I hope so). What happens now? NOTHING!! In fact, that "today" is WM today. TouchFLO 3D is a plugin, so you can't assign home tab to left button.
Assign "today" to left button works different than Diamond's home button, which in fact was assigned to TouchFLO 3D home tab.
Anyway, thanks for (not) helping.
M.Ozturk, thanks, I realized that, I was looking for a way to map left or right hardware buttons.

Mine works just fine pal..whenever,wherever i am, it takes me back to today. (should i provide a video proving it? lol.) In fact i've been using the hw keys mapped in this manner for a year, and it always works. Question your actions instead of calling someone a smartass privately and publicly. Or did you think i had made up those instructions i gave you without ever applying them, either right before giving them to you or in the past? Sad. This said, i'm out, "since you are so smart" figure what's wrong with your (i'd say rom) by yourself.

Yeah, maybe it's a ROM matter (I've been playing around with two or three, since it's been 2 days I have the Xperia). But if it's a ROM matter, it's not as easy as you described initially, right?
What just pissed me off is that you assumed that I haven't searched, or tried the simple way you have told me.
Just read what you wrote:

Do you really think I'm that kind of person? If you think, yeah I can think that you are a smartass too, right?
Wouldn't it be easier if you just tell me "maybe it's a ROM problem", Mr. Xperia-expert-who-knows-everything-and-others-don't??
I also used to have touch diamond, and would love to have this behaviour as well. I use Touch X 10.1 and mapping to "today" just takes you to TF3d, doesn't take you to home screen

I apologize for taking you for a newbie without the ability to learn and search, but lately xda has been drowning in stupid questions. Since i figured out the issue by myself long ago and it was really easy i assumed you hadn't even tried, like many people around here ("guys how do i flash a rom?"). Sorry. Btw i said i hoped you did not fall within the category..If it's a ROM matter it gets way more complicated and possibly unfixable without knowing what the chef cooked in. What ROM are you using? Since i got my x1 i tried NRGZ, Itje, Smaberg, Rota and Agent and hw buttons assignment has always worked..
Ok, apologies accepted.
I'm trying now Touch X 10.8.2 Legendary, and cannot map hardware buttons like that. I'll go back to Valkyrie v4.2 Firestorm and see what happens.
I suspect that buttons functionality depends on Manila build version.
shortcut to home page
Create a shortcut to:
Code:
\Windows\manila.exe --switchtopage Manila://home.page
Place this shortcut into \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and assign it to the needed button.
I use touch-it rom and when I am, for exemple, on weather tab, the hang up button takes me back to home tab

this works but i would love to map it to the hardware soft key
Hey guys,
I've got a fuze and I just updated to the latest NRGY rom.
Problem I'm having is that I cannot page up/down with the opera browser. I've tried the 2/8 keys, the space bar, and even editing the input.ini file to assign other keys... Nothing has worked.
Any ideas?
Well, seeing that it might be a software issue (assuming your keyboard works in other instances :: Texting, etc..) have you tried scrolling with finger/thumb swipes? Opera Mobile was designed for "Touch-Use". If you can scroll with swipes, it might be a hardware issue with your keyboard.
If you can't scroll with swipes, visit www.opera.com and download Opera Mobile & install it yourself. It may fix the issue.
If all else fails, try using one of the Keyboard "re-mappers" to switch from TP -> Fuze, vice-versa.
[If this post offends you or seems to appear that I am "doubting your intelligence", I apologize. Just giving my two cents. Though the steps I have provided are extremely common, some people simply don't know. It's not their fault, we all had to learn once.]
Hope all is well,
Agent Zach.

Thanks Zach,
Keyboard is fine as it works with every other application. I know I could use touch, but I'm not used to touchscreen and like buttons. Will try your suggestions.
Steve
Are you using the Opera Browser that was pre-installed with your ROM?
If not, upgrade to 10.
Hoping that a fresh install of Opera will help you in this situation.
Just for the info:
When I use my Hardware "Arrows" on my keyboard in Opera, a cursor appears and is controlled by the Arrow keys. Makes non-touch navigation simple.
I did a search and came up with nothing. Sorry if it's been asked.
Is there a way to make the trackball work like a mouse when browsing? I know that you can scroll on links with it but I would like another option to scroll.
Please direct me to the correct thread if I missed it on the search. Thanks.
How does your's work? What browser and version are you running?
Mine totally works like a mouse scroll.
I have stock froyo, and for me I can only use the trackball to scroll through links on the browser.
I did some digging and couldn't find any settings to enable the trackball to work as a mouse.
So how you did it?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I use the Rodriguezstyle ROM. I'm in the same boat as gratti but I use the Dolphin HD browser. I can only scroll through links but not scroll like a normal mouse like on a regular PC.
One of the biggest reason I want to be able to use it like a mouse scroll is (if it's even possible at all) when I play some flash games, I would like to be able to scroll to the buttons I want to press instead of using my fingers (which is pretty hard to do). And of course since I am only able to scroll through links, it does not allow me to click the controls in the flash games.
Have you guys tried using Opera Mini, it makes the track ball work as a mouse, but then agains it isnt the best browser.
i think dolphin hd lets u use the volume buttons as a scroll

Right, that I know and it has a lot less options and functions than DHD.
I know about scrolling with the volume button on DHD, but that just makes no sense cause what if you want to increase/decrease the volume while you are on the webpage?
