Hi
i have been given a XDAIIs by O2 from a mate to try and correct the botch update he tried to do.
He Download the ROM update from O2's web site, run the install but something happened half way though the Radio ROM procedure and it failed.
Now there is No radio Version when GetDeviceData.exe is run and the Phone function dont work too.
I have tried to install the manufacture Radio ROM and various others, but they all fail.
My guess as there is no version on the ROM the install process falls over trying to determin what the current version is.
IS there a way around this?
If no one can help he will have to send it back under the warranty.
Doh best if i post it in the right place.
Lock/Delete plz
So, what's it mean when you run GetDeviceData.Exe and all you get in your ../windows/devicedata.txt file is "PH20B" ?
Strange, huh? I've tried it a couple of times. Always the same... Nothing but "PH20B". I'm also having the "No GSM" in the boot screen problem, and can't upgrade (well, load AT ALL!) my radio stack. In my device info screen the OS and Extended info are right, but Protocal and Radio are both blank now. This has all happened after trying to do a ROM upgrade tonight.
1. What (exactly) device you own? What was DeviceData BEFORE first upgrade?
2. What ROM you had, and which one you tried to load?
3. How did you do that (what procedure)? Have you omitted any steps?
Lets say you really own PH20B (Blueangel) then if the radio is inactive the devicedata.txt will not output the info from it. Reflash radio only
Also this may happen if you have flashed PH20A (Harrier) and you flashed WM5, go back to WM2003 and all will work fine

1: It is a HTC BlueAngel. It's one of those with just "PocketPC" on the front. No cell provider branding. I bought it off ebay last year. Don't know what the file showed before. Never had a problem, so I never looked.
2: Was running a I-Mate ROM since I bought it. But the radio was really old. The radio version was like .9xx . Don't remember exactly what. SHould have written it down. But it was less than 1.00, I know that for sure. I was upgrading to the Siemens 1.33 ROM with the 1.15 radio added on.
3: Used MaUpgradUt_NoID. Never been able to use BaUpgradeUt. It's always given a country ID error, but Ma..NoID has always worked before.

Yes. It is a blue angel for sure. See my reply above.
It's always been WM2003, and all I get when I try to flash ANY radio rom version to it now is a country ID error.
flash with noid app
maupgradeut_noid.exe
Yep. Already tried that. In fact, that's the ONLY way I've been able to do any upgrades at all since I bought the phone. Never have found a ROM that would work with BAupgradeUt.exe. Strange thing is, I can load the OS and EXT ROM's no problem using Ma..NoID.exe... Just not the Radio ROM. Even using NoID when I try to load a Radio ROM, it dies with a country code error. I believe the error is N-N-50-50-50 if that means anything to anyone. Any more ideas? I've tried all the obvious things I could think of. I wonder if maybe I could use a null data field in editfix.bat? That is, instead of using real data values from devicedata.txt like you normally would, replace the "???" in the .bat file with " ". Anyone know if that's even possible? Or should I just try taking it up to WM5, then back to 2003?
Thanks for all the thought and effort so far folks.
I'm trying to downgrade my radio firmware, but everytime I flash a lower version number radio it does not seem to take.
The flash completes fully, but when I look at the version number it is still at 1.54.30.10 which I am trying to replace with either 1.54.07.00 or 1.47.30.10.
Anyone know why this is happening and how I can reflash my radio?

Use MTTY and do a "Task 2a" then flash an official ROM.

That didn't work. The Radio version still is the same.
Any other ideas or maybe I just need more specific directions?
My phone is unlocked with the CheetahUnlocker (which I believe uses the HardSPL.)

Where does the 1.54.30.10 Radio ROM come from?
Palm or Hermes?

I believe it is a Hermes.
I'm sorry. I don't know the version of Hermes's ROM for recovering.
If you would be lucky, you might find it.
I have not done recover from Locked Hermes's Radio,
because I never flash Hermes's Radio to my Treo750.

I don't recommend 1.54.xx.xx.
Perhaps, Unlocked 1.48.xx.xx from Hermes might be able to downgrade.
My friends, who unlocked Treo750's SPL 6M before Hard-SPL, have several Treo750s.
One of his Treo750 has a fully locked Hermes's Radio. We can't reflash its Radio.
Is there any way through mtty to erase the radio rom so it will reload when a new rom is flashed?
Haven't really seen a definite answer here to the original post...
I actually am trying to do the exact opposite of the OP.
I currently have Radio: 1.54.07.00 and am wanting to upgrade to the 1.54.30.00 but can't do it anyway I try whether it's using RUU interface or placing on a formatted SD card and changing it to CHEEIMG.nbh.
It runs through the process, and acts as if it is updating/changing the Radio Rom, but nothing changes.
Can I change my Radio or not?
Treo 750 unlocked w/ CheetahUnlocker and Running WM6.1 Full version.
Thanks for the help!
btw, I read a lot of threads and posts... and read the Heremes Radio Wiki - just can't seem to find a definitive answer. Also when I flashed the Radio after using CheetahUnlocker it flashed the Radio w/o issue.
Run through the cheetahunlocker again (all stages, regardless if they error out).
Then use the kaiserRUU to load the new radio .nbh

cheetahunlocker won't erase all my stuff on the treo if I recall correctly, right???

With flash WM6 all O.K
Bootloader is CRASH?

BUGs..HELP PLEASE
The problem
As alluded to by Chaimd, that particular radio is locked and will not allow for radio flashing unless an SPL is loaded which can perform an authentication function. I'm 99% sure no one has modified a cheetah SPL to do so. Someone like pof or olipro (oh boy are they gonna kill me for this) would be familiar with problem, but unlikely inclined to work on it since they don't have this device.
I haven't seen any workable method around it. The cheetah bootloader doesn't support task 2a.

Well, after many attempts - this does not work for me.
I can't even get to Step 3 of the CheetahUnlocker...it errors out after Step 2, and does not let me continue.
I read something about once you flash the 1.54.xx.xx Radio Rom you can't change it b/c the Cheetahunlocker has been able to authenticate the newer Radio roms or something like that... is that true??? It seems so, b/c I can't seem to get it to work.
any advice?
thanks again
I also have 1.54.01.00 but I don't know how i got this radio firmware, not a single internet connection on my treo is possible. No matter the version of Win Mob (6 6.1) I use, my Treo 750 just won't transfer data over either 3g or gprs. Calls / sms are possible though.
Wich rom causes to load 1.54.01.00 radio firmware on my treo 750 ? I really wanna know what i did wrong.
Well for everyone that is stuck with that nasty 1.54.01.00 i may have a solution.
I managed to downgrade my treo 750 radio firmware to 1.12.0c.00.
!!!AT OWN RISK!!!
-Run cheetahunlocker only step 1
-continue till the bootscreen (3 colors)
-Removed USB cable
-Don't click Start Update!
Ran official Desktop updater from palm (update version 2.27)
-Went to Temp files (Start --> execute --> type: %temp%
-Went to Palm dir --> 750RecoveryTool dir (is hidden) --> open T750URT (
treo 750 update recovery tool)
-Follow on screen instructions.. After this is got a rather old radio version
Will now try to run the Normal update again.

Sorry mate, seems it cannot be done with existing tools. I decided 1.54.30.10 is not very stabled and have tried several cobbled together methods to downgrade to 1.54.01.00, all with no success. Seems we must wait for someone with more skills and time to break this one open.

Nice find dude. Now there's hope for all who are stucked with radio 154xxx
Hi,
I am planning to get a Diamond but would have a few general questions and have to admit I am a bit overwhelmed by the information to be found here, so I hope someone could help me a bit.
What exactly is the SPL?
I found some information at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL Questions?, however am still not quite sure what it is doing. As far as it seems it is similar to a x86 BIOS which gets started at the boot process by something like a FPL (First Program Loader) and then takes care of starting the actual operating and also has control of installing/flashing a new one. Is this correct? Entering the boot loader then probably means skipping to load the operating system and entering a kind of command shell of the SPL, right?
What does a SoftSPL?
To me it seems it is nothing installed but to WM a regular application which actually exits WM and allows, respectively, performs direct hardware access, which probably serves to install a HardSPL to overcome any restrictions the original system SPL is setting, right?
Do I always need to install a new SPL?
If I get an open/unlocked Diamond and want to install third party ROMs I suppose I need to install a new SPL nonetheless as the original one always checks the ROM vendor. Is this correct?
How can I flash?
Do I always need a connection from ActiveSync or can I flash directly from the phone's flash memory without an actual connection to a PC?
Thank you.
Can nobody confirm or correct my assumptions or has further information?
Having read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211 some questions have been semi-answered but new ones arrived .
The HardSPL does not seem to be the official term, but is the name of the "hacked" SPL to skip vendor id checks, correct?
(btw, if I buy an open/non-locked Diamond is it CID locked as well?)
The FPL I referred to previously seems to be actually the IPL which would be the actual BIOS comparison I mentioned previously, right?
Is there a reason why there is an IPL and a SPL? I guess the former can never be flashed.
Why is there the need for different HardSPL versions? Shouldnt they all do basically the same basic steps? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2437385&postcount=27 mentions changes by HTC, but even then shouldnt an updated HardSPL be enough?
It seems it is not really possible to flash/update from the internal memory but an ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center connection is necessary.

HardSPL is actually the name of the modified/hacked SPL available from here, which allows the flashing of non-official ROMs. As long as you want to install official ROMs (from HTC or your provider, if branded) the modified SPL should not be necessary. For all other ROMs it is.

As far as it seems there are not as many versions from different people as I thought but only different version numbers, which seems to be due to different versions shipped with the devices. Generally the newest version seems to be recommended, however sometimes a previous one might work better.
Apart from version numbers there are however two actual different HardSPL versions, one which only allows signed ROM package and one which accepts all. The former is the more secure one, as only signed (and so by the xda-developers.com community approved) ROMs can be installed.

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL Questions? seems to provide a good explanation.
A SoftSPL seems to be a workaround if the system's SPL does not allow the flashing of a new SPL. It is a WM application which you need to run on your phone and runs as SPL, allowing to install a new SPL on the machine.

The default SPL coming with the device only allows ROM installations from the official vendor (either HTC itself or the provider if it is branded). As long as you install only those official ROMs you shouldnt need to install HardSPL.
All other ROMs (in particular those here) need HardSPL however.

As Andrea already mentioned flashing the Radio and ROM from the internal memory is possible, flashing the SPL itself is not as far as it seems.
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade my radio rom. At first everything seems fine but after the upgrade process is at about 30%, I get error no. 114. I think that maybe a part of my rom is broken, so I'd like to change the allocation of my roms. I'd like to have the extented rom part as new radio rom and vice versa.
Is that possible? If yes, how is it done?
thx for your help
PECK
sorry to disappoint you, but no, that is not possible.
start the other way around, do not try to bypass a problem by creating a new one, try solving the problem first. why would the radio rom abort in the middle of the upgrade process?
- do you use the right upgrade tools?
- do you use the right radio rom?
- did you take care of everything else there is about upgrading a rom (bootloader, active sync kill...)?
- are you able to flash another os rom?
...whatever comes to mind when flashing roms, because this problem will not be any different after all.
@ chef_tony:
I've no problem with upgrading the OS or the extented rom! thats why i think that maybe the flash chip is broken!
I tried many different upgrading tools, even one of yours!
I don't know the current language id of my device! Originally it was a german XDA III! How can I check the current language id and how can I change it? is it possible that I have this problem because of a wrong language id?
thx in advance
PECK
i would guess it couldn't have anything to do with the country id, error 114 is radio rom update error.
btw, you get to see the inofficial country id everytime you soft reset the device, and in the bottom right corner it says something like WWE, or GER, for instance. or, when you connect the device and run getdevicedata.exe from the ruu folder, which is done before the upgrade, to show you the "from:" and "to:" numbers.
but: i just got another idea.
do you actually take out the sim card, before trying to upgrade the radio?
is your device sim unlocked?
have you played around with different bluetooth stacks?
have you performed a hard reset before trying to upgrade the radio?
have you tried upgrading the radio from the stock o2 rom wm2003?
ok, that was more than one idea, and downgrading seems like a lot of work, but it is worth a shot. if you spend days flashing (or trying to) over and over again anyways, you might as well try that, would mean 2 extra upgrading sessions, but what is that, like an hour?
oh, and what radio rom does the device have now, stock? or is it a newer one already?
and why do you think you need to upgrade the radio rom anyways? phone not working, maybe the problems lie deeper and that could be why the upgrade process can't work in the first place!
"don't confuse an original symptom with the sickness from the drugs we gave him" as dr. house, would say
hi,
the device is unlocked! there was no sim card inserted during the upgrade; i just tryed with one but I get the same error at 32% progress...
it doesn't work with the original rom, also!
it would be fine if the stock rom was installed, but unfortunately i don't have installed any radio rom whatsoever!
windows mobile device information says that i don't have a radio rom and no protocol installed!
oh, for pete's sake, i'm sorry.
when i asked you about the sim card being inserted, i thought of taking the card out, if you hadn't done before, should have written that. many people have problems when having a sim card or sd card inserted, i didn't want to suggest to put one in! that can never do good, either nothing happens or it gets worse, i really shouldn't have forgotten that.
it doesn't work with the original rom, also!

yeah, but does the stock rom itself work? i mean, the stock rom is a so called baked rom, meaning it contains a rom, an extrom and a radio rom, while the cooked roms here only contain the actual rom, so the os. i mean, you could try and extract the radio from the stock rom and try and flash that. it would give you a radio back! or if that doesn't work either, try flashing the entire stock rom, if that works without problems and then you'd have a radio, it means that your issue is too strange to think about, but still you can delete the extrom again and flash another rom without harming the original radio.
wouldn't that be a step forward?
btw. what radio rom are you trying to flash?
if it is just one, you try over and over, are you absolutely certain, this is for the BA? which version is it? what was the original file name of the exe? where did you get it? have you tried re-downloading it, maybe the file is really broken!
hi,
i tryed many different rom versions, and i'm pretty sure they are for the blueangel!
do you know, where i can get a cooked rom for my xda 3?
first, to be clear about that, as mentioned before, cooked roms consist only of the operating system itself and contain neither a radio rom nor an extrom. so about every rom offered here is a cooked rom. but that won't solve your problem, since, as mentioned, there is no radio included. that is why i suggested for you to try the original radio from the shipped rom, and then the entire shipped rom, to determine, whether the radio rom flashes, when it comes after an nk.nbf rom, which would mean, that from now on, you'd have to "bake" roms yourself, by taking cooked roms and adding the radio, so to not lose it. when you can actually flash wm2003 you can also try flashing other radios with the original BAupgradeut, because in contrast to os roms, there should be no limitations to the radio roms, as far as i know.
