Please help I can't go into recovery mode! - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my T-mobile g1 since October 22nd and up until January I was using the official releases from T-mobile. But in January I found out about Multi-Touch on the G1 so I decided to get root. Everything went fine. Then in February I downloaded the developer bootloader and it worked then yesterday by mistake I downloaded the JF ADP 1.5 update but my phone was running on JF RC33 1.42 and then when I updated I turned on my phone and it got stuck on a screen where it shows the word Android in blue all shiny. Finally i got my backup sd card which had the JF RC33 1.41 update and downloaded it straight from the sd card. Finally the update worked after like 10 minutes. Then I looked for an update on the T-Mobile G1 (US) update on the JF updater app it said i needed to update to JF RC33 1.42 version so I downloaded the updated and pressed applied on it so when the phone turned on it went straight to the developer bootloader screen with the little skateboarding androids on the bottom and on the top it says:

How do I get the recovery mode working again? Does my warranty cover this? How can I get T-Mobile to give me new one?
Please help please!
Thank you for any future help.

I have spent the past week of my life on this forum, simply reading and researching. At this point I have a fully Rooted phone running JFv1.51_CRB43-ADP with a htc_hero_1.4.5 Theme. I have searched far and wide for information on SPL and Radio versions, upgrading and etc and have found very little helpful information. I have obviously found the SPLs for DREA100 & DREA110 (Orig, Eng, Hard) post and have read it multiple times but it does not give much preface.
So here's my questions, all related to the SPL and Radio...
Given the Technical Details I posted up above, I am going to assume that I should upgrade my SPL, correct?
Given the Technical Details I posted up above, I am going to assume that I should upgrade my RADIO, correct?
I Quote the following from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517593
"EDIT: It has been confirmed that you WILL brick your phone if you attempt to downgrade your radio after flashing the new SPL. So.. don't."
Okay, So if that quote is correct, then I assume that would mean that anyone who has rooted their phone, then applied HardSPL (as the guide says) is completely unable to downgrade/upgrade their Radio?
Finally, According to what I have read. The "proper" method for me to proceed would be to downgrade to RC29 > Re-Root > Re-update to JesusFreke version > update the radio > then finally update the spl.
But as someone else said, Would that not be the exact same state technically that I am in now? I understood that one should update the radio prior to updating to a Jesus Freke version or any other for that matter.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide, and I apologize for the questions if they seem very "nooby" but I absolutely cannot find definitive information on these topics anywhere.
My understanding, and don't quote me on this, is that the latest SPL, from Haykuro, requires the latest radio. Flashing that SPL without the Radio before hand, will brick the unit. So if you wanted to revert the radio and SPL, you'd have to downgrade the SPL, then the radio.
To unroot and return to stock firmware, you can just reapply RC29 and get the over the air upgrades back to normal. I haven't done it, I've had no reason to, but there are threads fully explaining it .

Currently, you need a sim unlock code to unlock your G1 for use with AT&T.
In regards to the bricking after downgrading the radio... it only applies if you have used the DangerSPL. If you have the HardSPL, EngSPL or the standard factory spl you have nothing to worry about.

You should defetinetly update your radio otherwise you'll run into some issues. You don't have to upgrade the the new spl (not hard, not engineering). The only reason people are upgrading there spl's is to put the new hero roms on cause it free's up space on your phone since the hero rom is much larger. But if you do want to upgrade your spl you got the steps right just make sure you update your radio first, make sure you have a pvt board (check by holdin in cam + power) and you will be good to go. If you want to get rid of the new "danger" spl all you have to is downgrade the spl to hardspl or whatever you want by the same update method. You won't want to downgrade your radio so you'll be good there.
you should try getting your hands on a rodger dream.. you can use att and have 3g with them..

Rooting a HTC Dream without applying another ROM

I have a South African HTC Dream and did some research on this forum about rooting. I am more than happy with the phone's current ROM with the exception that it does not support WPA-Enterprise Wifi - in order for me to configure this, I would need to root the phone and will then be able to adjust wpa_supplicant.conf.
In all the tutorials I would have to downgrade the firmware (I have not been able to do this with any of the guides supplied - either normal RC7 downgrade, 1-click or Goldcard) in order to root the phone.
Is there any way I can root the phone without having to flash another ROM (i.e. retain the current HTC ROM and make adjustments to wpa_supplicant.conf)? Most ROMs provided are not based on HTC build, and I would loose ActiveSync. AFAIK there is no ROM available which provides ActiveSync AND HTC Mail.

There are HTC based ROMs. The ROM from the Rogers Dream has exchange support, but before you flash the ROM you must flash the new radio then the SPL.

Thanks - I replaced my phone with another one (FW 1.1) and was able to flash. I installed Touchdown to overcome the Exchange problems - not ideal, but best choice now.

You're on 1.1?! I would strongly recommend flashing a Cyanogen ROM to get you back to 1.5.
I did update to latest Cyanogen rom. One question: I rooted the phone and am on latest Cyanogen. Only (minor) issue I have is that before the Cyanogen splash-screen comes on, I still see my mobile providers boot-logo (for about 10 seconds until the splash screen comes) - is there any way to change this?
I tried fastboot flash splash1, but get an error. As part of my rooting I did not flash SPL (i.e. HardSPL) but have cm-recovery - should I update SPL and if so which one (also, what is the risk of bricking?).
If replace SPL, do I need to update the radio again or reflesh Cyanogen?
As far as I know you wouldn't need to flash either again, HardSPL is known to be safe on all phones I believe. The only problems I've heard are with Haykuro's SPL. If you haven't flashed a new SPL that could be the issue, what is the error your getting when trying to change the splash?

It should be safe as long as it doesn't not require a specific radio. I have never heard of the radio version you have, but that's probably because you don't have a t-mobile G1. What carrier is it on? If it's unlocked, what was the original carrier? (the ones displayed on the boot screen).
I think Josh is right that it's safe for all Dream's, so you probably could go ahead and flash it, I'm not 100% sure. Just a quick not about flash SPL's and radios on cm-recovery, you have to physically press alt-s then home+back to reboot. Don't touch the trackball. That's only for SPLs and radios.
The hard spl is great, but if u want to run hero u will nees to flash haykuros spl. If u do flash haykuros spl make sure u flash the new radio image FIRST! OR U WILL BRICK! Have fun flashing away
Thanks. I applied SPL from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548924
And then fastboot worked: /fastboot-mac flash splash1 DOWNGRADE-SD/Boot_images/android.rgb565
Upgraded to latest Cyanogen 4.0.4 and have now an awesome phone - thanks to everyone for the help on this forum!

thanks. after seeing the radio you said you originally had in the first post i remembered that rogers has a radio that starts with a 3(then i searched and they are the same radio), then when i tried to download the root rogers package from that thread it kept timing out the download, so i was just curious as to radio you used. according to all the rogers root thread you have to flash the 1.33.2005 spl first before you can actually root, so basically i was trying to figure out if devices with that radio are immune to the bricking without 2.22.19.26I radio.

ADP1 G1 Lost Root / Upgrade to CM 4.1999 Help!

Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the whole entire rooting business. I know I have a ADP1 G1 phone from Google, which should already be rooted.
I've recently upgraded it to 1.6 Donut from the HTC site, but then I came across CynogenMOD and I wanted to give it a try.
However when I'm trying to install the CM Recovery 1.4 via terminal i encounter a SU problem. I did some research and I think it was because I lost my root somehow on my ADP1. So can anyone help guide me to transition from my current stock 1.6 donut to the new CynogenMOD? I would greatly appreciate any help.
The information for my phone is as of the following.
Model Number 1.6
Basedband Verision 62.505.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37 [email protected] #19
Build Number dream_devphone-userdebug 1.6 DCR83 14721 test-keys
My SPL is of the following
Drea100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-.95.3000
CPLD-4
Radio 2.22.19.261
Thanks again!
Wrong section, this should go in Q&A, but the easiest way is to just re-root the phone.
I got a similar problem, from what I understood after 6hrs of reading, is that I can get root back by going back to android 1.5..
My problem is that my spl is HBOOT-0.95.0000.
From what I understand is that I only can change this when having root, but can only get root when I change this... So for now i'm kind of stuck. I hope that i'm missing something
xxljmzlxx I think you have the engineering SPL and lennarteigenbrood I think you have the original SPL See this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455860
I would think you both could just "root" your phones and be OK. The easiest way to get the cyanogen recovery image is to do the 1-click method:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f28/one-click-root-starters-guide-for-dumbies-24281/
Good luck.
I unrooted thurs on accident I always use this method to root takes about 10 min

My problem is I flashed to Donut and all the rooting method requires 1.5.
It might be a spl problem and with my limited knowledge, i don't think so. Because I can't just upgrade/flash my spl... Upgrade aborts everytime.
I tried flashing back to Cupcake with HTC recovery image but that also aborts. Any thoughts? Or Im i just stuck here
Also flashrec-20090815.apk doesn't work with 1.6... I can flash to cm recovery 1.4 but it won't show up when I reboot and I cannot make a backup via the program
see cyanogen installation help thread (last few pages).. you guys still have root, you just have the superuser binaries installed
the reason you cant flash the recovery is because a script in the htc recovery rom replaces it on each boot

Help Need Rooting Alaska DigiTel CDMA Hero

I DID successfully create and test a goldcard and tried the instructions from the Cell South Hero thread (after I found out the asroot2 method would not work). The Sprint RUU 1.56.651.2 fails with Error[140]:BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR. When I unplug the USB the phone goes to the screen showing the RUU mode and says: Main version is older! Update fail!
I also tried using the latest version of FlashRec (1.1.3) but it appears my current ROM is patched
Is there any hope for rooting this phone?
I have the same phone as well and I get the same error; wondering the same thing as previous poster

what rom to flash

so i just downgraded and root my sisters G1
what can i install safely because the rom selection is not as straightforward as my G2 or other newer phones that can use clockworkmod
Firm 1.0
Baseband 62.33.20.08h_1.22.12.29
Kernel 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0
Build TC4-RC29 115247
secondly on my G2 i can just open clockwork and select the rom to write.
do i just do the same with the G1 HTC recovery menu, update from sdcard?
thanks
Personnally I would stay away from clockworkmod for G1 for recovery (I had a bad experiece with my G1 and can't even get into the recovery mode). But that is up to you if you wants to use it. I would go with Mannually using Amon RA and flash the ROM that you like.
As far as the ROM there are some out there that seem to be good for G1.
The best one so far that I like. are the following.
SuperAosp DM 2.8.2 (look at my sig for the Download site) [Mine choice]
Also Gingerbread series (ezGingerbread and Gingerbread Yoshi)
I attempted to install COS-DS-full Gingerbread latest
I ran into a status 7 error(SPL not a compatible version)
So when reading on updating the SPL I was reading without an HBOOT update you could brick
so what are the necessary files i need to update before updating the SPL and then which is the correct SPL
To my knowlegge these are the combo you'll want to use. Radio: 2.22.27.08 and SPL: 1.33.0013d
But I could be wrong.
