this night I pluged in the usb cable from my iMac, and I accidently choose internet, clicked on hide future message. How do I get the menu back to choose between the 3 options? In settings the ubs to pc does not work. Now when I plug in the usb cable, its always shared internet.
Settings/All Settings/Connections/USB to PC/Ask me first about...
Took me about 20 seconds to find!
If you read my post, you could see that this option does not work. There are only 2 options there. diskdrive and active sync, no shared internet. And after plugging in the usb cable, still no option to choose but direct shared internet.
Sorry about that
I've taken another look and whenever I turn that option on and off, it changes "DisablePopUpUI" in the registry. Here's the entire section from my phone:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\USBtoPC]
"AskConnect"=dword:00000001
"Device_Type"=dword:00000002
"DisablePopUpUI"=dword:00000000
"EnableAdvanceChecked"=dword:00000001
"SyncMode"=dword:00000000
perhaps one of your other settings is different now?

I have a weird problem with my USB port (I assume it's PC related but...?).
I can connect and sync my kaiser with a std or the HTC USB cable but if I cradle it in the Seidio or connect the 3-1 adapter I get the response "unknown USB device". Strange enough is that NONE of the two is charging. At other PC's it sometimes works, sometimes not. I assume my USB drivers of my Dell Optiplex are toast but how to reinstall...
Well, start with checking to see if under settings------->connections-------->"usb to pc ", the usb to pc option doesnt have " enable advanced networking functionality" checked ( enabled ). That will most times cause issues with activesync connecting and especially prevent USB charging.
Next, check to see if actvesync is set to use USB as an active connection type under its settings.
Delete any previous activesync pairs you may have and try to reconnect. I somehow doubt its your drivers but the best way to check is to just go to Microsoft.com, navigate to their downloads section, and download a new copy of activesync.
One last thing to check. Some roms have a battery option (settings ----------> power-------> battery tab ) that doesnt allow charging when connected to a PC. Make sure that is NOT checked.
Thanks for your reply.
I tried all you mentioned beside uninst. AS clean the PCs reg and reinstall.
Will let everybody know.
Today I plugged the USB cable to the computer and the device asked what connection type I wanted to use. I selected Internet Sharing, left the check box for "don't ask me again" empty and connected.
Since then, my device doesn't ask anymore what I want to do when plugging in the USB cable. Tried multiple computers. Also checked the setting "USB to PC" in the Settings. The checkbox "ask me" was ticked, so I don't understand why it doesn't ask what I want to do.
Edit:
Never mind, fixed it. Instead of cancelling and closing the Internet Sharing application, I continued and established a connection. After that, I closed the application and the device is now again asking me what type of connection I want when connecting the USB cable.
Dunno whether it'll fix it, but have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512402

i have a samsung galaxy ace here....... and i can't seem to find this setting..... where do you enable it from?
I went into menu -> settings -> connectivity, and set the USB connection to "Always Ask" when connecting to a computer so that it would ask me if I want to use Charging/Mass Storage/Media Sync/etc. Even with that box checked, no matter what I do, when I connect the phone to my computer, it does NOT ask me what USB connection mode to use. Can anyone else confirm whether or not they experience this problem?
Thanks!
SOLVED - driver conflict with my Samsung Epic. Connecting one then the other wreaks all sorts of havoc.
call Verizon or LG for that support..OR try your control panel windows settings..devices

Is the little USB symbol showing up in the notification bar?
If not...try a different USB port on the computer.
Sounds dumb, i know...but it worked for me today when I had the same problem. And I think I recall it working on my old Incredible.
SOLVED
SOLVED - driver conflict with my Samsung Epic. Connecting one then the other wreaks all sorts of havoc, between mass storage mode and whatnot. When I switch the LG from charge to mass storage and back on the fly, it's doing something to the samsung drivers. When i reconnected my samsung, then the LG again, things went cuckoo for cocoa puffs until I rebooted.
I can't post a new topic as I have less then ten posts but I have an issue with my connectivity as well. When unplugged the phone still shows the USB icon in the top left corner like it is plugged in. However when plugged in the phone will charge but when connected to a computer mass storage mode will not work or show up. I have tried it in windows xp/ osx on my MacBook. Windows 7 on my desktop and nothing. The drivers are good as it was working before. I have done a wipe/data, restored back to cubed 1.1 mod and it is still doing it. It doesn't bug me that bad as I use andftp to move my apostle back and forth from my NAS to sdcard. But I would like it fixed as trying to put music or ISO's for my psx emulator can take a minute over the wifi. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a rooted bionic with blurr3d rom installed. i just got a new laptop, installed the moto driver, tried connecting my phone but laptop cannnot read my phone. I noticed that i dont have the usb conection option anymore(or dont know where to find it)
Any help would be nice...
Can you give some more info, what kernel are you on right now?
Does the phone make any sound or indication that it is connected when you plug it in to the laptop?
If there is a USB connection, there should be an icon on the notification bar and there should be a notification for "USB connection" when you open your notifications. If you select that, it should bring up the usual USB connection menu.
I've heard of some people having issues with connections on USB ports that get low power. On desktops, people generally recommend using the ports on the back because they receive more power, apparently. I've also heard of similar issues on a laptop, though you don't have the convenient option of using another set of USB connections. Most of that has been information I've seen for stuff like flashing something on the device, so I'm not sure if that would be an issue for the basic USB connection.
Try a different USB cable.
Hi, guys! I have a trouble and I broke my mind to try to solve it. My phone N6 can't work in mass storage mode (MTP), only Charging, PTP, or MIDI. If I try to turn on any other modes (MTP, RNDIS, Audio Source), the phone automatically changes to Charging. I tryed to turn on/off USB debugging in Developer options, several times flash another versions of firmware, use another cable (but I think it can't help, because MTP don't turn on even cable doesn't connect to phone. Don't know what I can to do else. Help, please.

Unplug your usb, go disable usb debugging, go into your developer options, find "select usb config" under the "networking" section.
You will want to select MTP, if it doesnt work look for PTP, and if it doesnt work (or isnt there) just select file transfer.
This will now be default selection when you plug in your phone. if your phone is still not being recognized, id highly suggest trying one more cable.
i literally have 5 in my house that are all **** and only charge.

tryed all of this earlier, and nothing helps
why cant you use ptp?
I can, but think that there is something wrong torturing me This phone arrived a few days ago from Ebay, and I would like to know is this a bug from seller, or I broke it while firmware, and whether it is possible to fix.
Did you solved the problem? I have the same problem with my nexus 6
no, after I disassembled the phone for changing camera module, I found a new problem, phone doesn't charge anymore. At this moment I wait a spare logic board. I think that problem with MTP mode is a hardware problem, wich can progress.
