Hi !!!
My Kaiser (Schap's lite 4.31) randomly stop charging, whenever it wants, at home (USB to computer) or in car (as GPS use for example)
With my laptop, i use my Kaiser for "Internet Sharing" to get HSDPA, the orange led stays for a while, and without raison, it turns green and blinks, as stand by mode. So battery decreases very fast. The only way to solve is to stop "Internet Sharing", then ActiveSync re sync, and then led shows orange charging again. Then i can start "Internet Sharing" again, but for how long ? Problem comes again and again...
In car, same problem. In GPS use, with car charger (brand Motorola), it starts Orange charging, and randomly, orange led stops and i'm back with green blinking, running on his own battery (but linked to car charger !!!)
With AC Charger, no charge problem.
Probably my Kaiser has charge problems while running apps ?
Somebody can help me ?
Well I have noticed this same behavior with my Tilt with various
roms. (Stock, Dutty's and now Garmins) It seems to me that at
the time the Tilt stops charging, the device is pretty warm. It
happend when tethered for ICS or when used as GPS. I may be
wrong but I have come to the conclusion that it is designed to
stop charging when the device reaches a certain internal temp.
Just using those two particular applications (ICS w/HSPDA and
GPS) causes the device to heat up, Combined with charging I
think it may be too much and the device stops charging to cool
off so that there isn't a component failure due to the heat build
up. I also say this because after an idle period with ICS (say I
am reading a long article) and the device cools a little it will start
to charge again. Likewise in the car with GPS.

This can help your problem to resolve,go to settings-system-power,make sure when device is turned on do not charge battery when connected to the pc,is unchecked.

@ Darkhynde : You're probably right !!! Last time i saw this non-charging behaviour, it happened after long GPS use (started on its own battery, summer temperature, hot in car, and it stopped charging 5 minutes after switching on car charger adaptor), and long, long HSDPA (more than 5 hours on USB) use.
Temperature must be the answer, you're the king
@ korakesion : Obviously option is checked
Thanks guys !!!

I've used my Tilt as a tethered USB modem during several disaster recovery tests for periods up to 14 hours and I've never had it stop charging.
But I can see the part about GPS because my phone gets hot as hell after 30 or so minutes with GPS running; still charges though...
100% Confirmed Temperatures is the key...
Not sure anyone is still reading this post... but I just want to let yo guys know that I have the same problem... (it stops charging when using internet sharing and it get really hot)
The only solution I have found is to put the Tilt in front of a fan... If you put the tilt in front of a fan... you can use internet sharing/GPS 24/7... done this a million times... and it works for days without a problem.
Hope this helps... take care everyone...
I've had my phone since October 2007 and have tethered with it pretty much everyday since dial up is the only other solution where I live and NEVER did the phone get hot or stop charging until yesterday. If while I am using ICS and I go into power settings and check don't charge while connected to PC and then immediately uncheck it it will charge for a few moments and then go back to flashing green. I put a new battery in and no difference. I hard reset the phone and tried ICS without loading anyhting on the phone still same thing. It charges any other way except when using ICS and I DO pay for tethering on mine.
Just an update to my situation. I plugged my phone into my other computer and used ICS and this time it charged until full (granted it was almost full already) So here I am on my laptop which it would not charge while using ICS and so far after about 10 minutes it is still charging. Only thing I did was poke around in the registry looking for some magic setting but I never changed anything. I don't know if leaving it on a wall charger all day and night did something or I just got lucky. Hopefully it will continue to work since i only have less than a month left on my 1yr warranty.

Doesn't this affect battery-life? I was under the impression you should not charge until the battery is (nearly) empty?
I have a feeling my hermes battery got wasted because the hermes starts charging every time I connect it to my pc (which is every day during office hours)
It's a defect. HTC sucks and I'll never buy one of their phones again. How disrespectful of them! I bought the phone hoping to use it as a modem permanently and go home to find the device heats up within 1 hour of usage and stops USB charging! I can't remain online for more than 2 hours without leaving the air conditioner on. What about the 3D display driver? No drivers! Down with HTC!
Dear All,
Until today, I believe many people still have battery charge problem (can not get greenlight when charge for many hours unless charge while turn system off).
TOday I just try to find what program or else cause this problem since I believe it's not hardware problem. and I just able to get a greenlight charged when I turn off "TouchFLO 3D" when charged!
I still not sure that "TouchFLO 3D" may cause problem. if anyone can confirm this please let me know too.
the step to test
got to setting --> today --> and turn of "TouchFLO 3D" (the system will return to original start menu)
Charge you phone as normally, and hope I'm right
Sorry if this post seem like to repeat again.. but I sure someone out there still want for solution to fix this problem or wait for HardSPL to flash another rom to fix this.
Good luck
same problem ! Sometimes it takes up to 14 hours to get the greenlight

What I stated on many other threads before:
- Problem is software-related
- Phone will charge normally and change LED from orange to green, when it is powered off.
Have you guys noticed that when charging via USB and a PC it is not a problem and the green light always comes. For me I only see the problem when connected to a wall charger...
R
Had this problem, but it seems to have resolved it self but then again ive installed and uninstalled so many programs could of been any one of them. I wouldnt worry too much windows 6.5 should be coming out soon, we'l all have to do a fresh install then.
If you switch-off the phone for charge, it is no problem.

Just like I stated.
It could be different when you charge it using a PC: it sees what way it is charged, as you can turn off charging from USB (Settings -> System -> Energy)..
I did not try this myself, I read about it once, but will try to see what the result is.
Thanks for your comment rakh1, will try.
i just recently got my phone and i charge it when the phone is on and i do get the green light.......

Some phones don't have this strange behaviour, or do not have it directly, but some do get it after a (short) while..
The same charging problem
Hy folks,
I recently switched from the X1 to the Topaz (Diamond2) and I unfortunately have the same charging issue. I confirm that it must be some kind of software problem, because after soft-reseting the device the battery shows 100% and everything is fine. I installed G-Alarm and HD Tweak (to tweak the soft keys) -> maybe one of these programs causes this problem?
If someone knows how to fix this, please post asap.

You are correct, the phone is actually charged, althrough it says it isn't.
A soft-reset does 'fix' the problem.
I never installed the programs you mentioned, so that can't be the reason. Some other people thought it was related to battery-programs, but I doubt that.
An explaination to why some people do have this problem and some people don't, might be that they have different ROMs. Every country / phone has a different ROM. It could be driver or Windows-build related, so people with a different ROM may have a different build/drivers where the problem does not occur.
What I advice to do is wait for HSPL and upcoming ROMs, where cookers can combine the best builds and (latest?) drivers from the different ROMs HTC already has released.
I called HTC about this problem, they said a hard reset should fix the problem. But i guess the problem still exists if it's a problem in the ROM. Anyway my battery is almost empty after 2 days standby, instead of a week. So it wasn't fully charged or my battery is wasted due to this problem. When my phone is almost empty i will charge it for the first time after the hard reset, i'll keep you updated.

If you did not use your phone, 2 days is short, if you did use your phone, it is 'long'. A think a average user is able to use it for 1,5 to 2 days with one battery charge, whereas a 'heavy' user will need to charge his phone everyday. I seem to belong to the latest ones.

I have problem with battery lifetime, when i look under windows/setup/all/power/and the the information tab a complete charge have never been done ?? No info at all ? I use to charge it 10 hours every day, still the battery is emty at 19:00 with just speaking in the phone.
I noticed the problem during the first charging. Light didn't go green. Day after that, I must have had something running (now my "x" shuts off the application instead of minimizing...) because when I pressed the power on button to switch on the backlight (I never shut the phone completely down), the battery was totally empty.
I charged again (using a wall charger) and the phone was charged within an hour or so. The light DID went green, btw.
Later that day I got some beeps: your battery level is dangerously low.
So I charged again, this time on USB. I checked in settings - power and it showed that the phone was fully charged, but the light remained orange. However, about half an hour after that, the light went green.
So with me, charging DOES complete including a green light, but quite a while after the status bar in setting shows that the battery is fully charged. I use a lot of music and wifi on the phone, so I have to charge on a regular bases. Will keep the battery life posted.

As you haven't charged your phone a couple of times, it is hard to say if you have this problem. Charging using USB of a computer seems to work fine for some users, but I still did not test it myself. My phone charged fine the first time, from the wallet..
Another thing is, that the problem with the led nog changing is because the battery (charge) bar is stuck. So after charging it for like 8 hours, it is still at 51%.. (for example)..
If your charge bar does go to 100%, it will go to green, I guess...
I also have this problem, but only since i upgrade my rom to the latest version from the HTC site. i have a dutch ROM. I think the problem is in the new rom. with the old 1 i did not have this issue

No; in that case I explained it wrong. My charge bar goes to 100%, and stays there, with the light still orange. After some time (mostly about half an hour or so), the light will turn green. Meanwhile, so while the charge bar is at 100%, the text still says "busy charging" (translated from the Dutch I get).
hey guys -
I'll try to give a brief rundown of my situation
When the problem started: I had let the battery drain to a critical level. While at this level, I dropped it on the floor and it turned off. From this point forward, I could turn the phone on and it would start up. The phone would almost fully boot, show the correct time - my current # of messages and everything - but the screen wouldn't respond to my taps and about 10 seconds after making it to the main screen, the phone would do the critical battery failure thing and shut off.
Now here are the weirder specifics
a. when plugged in to any sort of charger, phone won't boot past AT&T screen (but the amber charging light is shown)
b. phone won't recognize a charger once already booted (sort of)
b1. occasionally, if I plug in the charger on the Windows splash screen, the screen will light up a little more (indicating it knows a charger is there) and once windows loads, it will actually show the charger icon in the top right hand corner. but I still get the critical battery failure and the phone shuts off.
c. if I plug the phone into my computer, during those 10 seconds when the phone is booted, I can access the files on it thru ActiveSync. Not enough time to take anything off though, I'm afraid.
c1. if I plug the in charger at any point past the windows screen, I can get an audible indication from my computer a connection has been made.
d. tried charging over night - didnt work
e. tried leaving the battery out over night - didnt work
f. tried fiddling the battery in and out with charger plugged in - no joy
g. used friend's fully charged tilt battery/bought a new tilt battery - nope
I would like to get the data off (I was delinquent backing it off) and am avoiding a hard reset if possible. The phone is covered by insurance so replacement isn't a big deal - it would just be real convenient to get the data off the phone.
If anybody has an idea or has a solution...! Your help would be appreciated VERY much.
- John
try a new battery, but this phrase stands out to me.
"I dropped it on the floor and it turned off"
Hi!
I am using a Diamond shipped by Vodafone (VPA Touch Diamond). It worked perfectly for about six weeks with Vanilla ROM. Yesterday, I wanted to send an SMS, when it suddenly turned off.
There is absolutely no reaction when I push the power button. The LED ring does not light when charging the phone. The only reaction is when I switch it on, the lower left corner (CPU) noticeably dissipates heat.
The (original) battery is fully charged (4.2 volts). The voltage is stable when the phone is turned on (measured inside the phone when it is in "pocket heating" mode described above).
I tried:
- soft reset (nothing happens)
- hard reset (nothing happens)
- leaving it for an hour with battery
- leaving it for an hour without battery
- leaving it in the fridge for 30 minutes
- leaving it without battery overnight
Actually, I have another good phone, but it would be really nice to get access to the data stored on the device. As far as I remember, hard reset only proceeds after accepting a message on the screen. So maybe I am lucky and my data is still there. Maybe I'm not.
Any idea? Thanks.
edit: yes, I know there are many (!) similar threads. I have read whatever I found, but there was no solution to my problem.
I have the same problem with you. Yesterday, when I woke up, I found that my Diamond didn't turn on anymore (no screen, no LED, no soft or hard reset...).
I brought it to the local mobile phone service and they said that the power IC has been short-circuited and they have to replace it.
They charged me 500 000 Vietnam Dong ($ 25) for that, but thay haven't finished repairing it yet.
Hi!
About 2 years ago, I was using Chrome on my Nexus 6 and the network icon became a black square. The phone froze, and after few seconds, it turned off. That was the last time I see my beloved N6 on.
Tried to charge it overnight, with low current (powered by a PC), turn it on with volDown; nothing.
I went to a phone service; they have never seen a N6 before (I live in a ****ty country), but they were enthusiastic to dissect one. They said that will try to charge the battery externally; a thing that eventually worked with N5s. I said that the battery was almost full when died, but they reply that sometimes blablabla. They asked me for about usd 200 to open it and see what could be. I said thanks, but that was too much. Back to a generic android phone until got the chance to own a Pixel XL.
The N6 was in a drawer until today. With the help of some YT videos, I open it and change the battery (got a generic EZ30). Sadly, nothing changed; still not having signals of life. No charging, no power; completly unresponsive. I must confess that isn't impossible that the volume cable was semi damaged in the process (I had to tape the intersection were it used to be a connector, but I think that all pins are in contact).
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!
Luigi
