Hi!
I am using a Diamond shipped by Vodafone (VPA Touch Diamond). It worked perfectly for about six weeks with Vanilla ROM. Yesterday, I wanted to send an SMS, when it suddenly turned off.
There is absolutely no reaction when I push the power button. The LED ring does not light when charging the phone. The only reaction is when I switch it on, the lower left corner (CPU) noticeably dissipates heat.
The (original) battery is fully charged (4.2 volts). The voltage is stable when the phone is turned on (measured inside the phone when it is in "pocket heating" mode described above).
I tried:
- soft reset (nothing happens)
- hard reset (nothing happens)
- leaving it for an hour with battery
- leaving it for an hour without battery
- leaving it in the fridge for 30 minutes
- leaving it without battery overnight
Actually, I have another good phone, but it would be really nice to get access to the data stored on the device. As far as I remember, hard reset only proceeds after accepting a message on the screen. So maybe I am lucky and my data is still there. Maybe I'm not.
Any idea? Thanks.
edit: yes, I know there are many (!) similar threads. I have read whatever I found, but there was no solution to my problem.
I have the same problem with you. Yesterday, when I woke up, I found that my Diamond didn't turn on anymore (no screen, no LED, no soft or hard reset...).
I brought it to the local mobile phone service and they said that the power IC has been short-circuited and they have to replace it.
They charged me 500 000 Vietnam Dong ($ 25) for that, but thay haven't finished repairing it yet.

Hello all. I seem to have a problem. I woke up today after having recharged my Tilt overnight, and it is completely unresponsive - not even lighting up the screen or any indicator lights. I've tried everything including removing the battery, checking the charger to make sure it's plugged in, you name it. Completely dead. I've not dropped my phone or had it in any liquids, and it was working perfectly last night. I installed the Palm Threaded SMS program and the KaiserTweak about a week ago, neither had given me problems (except the Palm MMS incompatability). Today my phone is a brick. Has anyone had this happen? This is my 3rd PDA (Treo 650 and 750 former, no problems with either of them).
Anyone have any insight into this?
Thanks,
-m
I know for me when I had a problem similiar to this I had to perform a hard reset on the device.
Press and hold the left and right soft keys...they are the ones right above the Internet button and the message button on your phone and then take your stylus and press it into the soft reset located on the bottom of your phone. Hold all of these buttons for a couple of seconds until the screen changes. Follow the instructions and your phone and it should do a hard reset. You will lose any data you had on there but your phone should be back to the condition in which it was shipped. I hope this helps.
alltheway,
Thank you for your response. Per your advice, I attempted to do a hard reset and the device is completely unresponsive. I tried it multiple times including while having it hooked into my laptop for power. Nothing. I held down the buttons for a full minute, and still nothing.
Very, very strange.

Did you take the battery out? Mine was unresponsive aside from blinking lights yesterday. Took the battery out for a minute and it was fine again.
roverman,
I did take my battery out multiple times. Mine has no blinking lights. When I plug the power cord in, the red light comes on to indicate it is charging, but aside from that - absolutely nothing.
I've had my Tilt for about a year now. I just had to replace a cracked screen about a week ago. It now randomly turns offs, usually when there is some sort of data connection like surfing the web or talking on the phone. It seems if I'm just messing around w/basic features on the phone it stays on just fine. The battery is at a good charge. I've noticed that when I have the phone plugged in it works fine, but as I said the battery is showing a charge of 50%+ when this happens. Anyone know what this could be? Thanks.
Hmmm,
My guess would be that you did not 'stick it together' correctly after changing the screen - seems like a hardware part is in contact with another where they shouldn't! When turning on your wifi or other hw modules, your device might experience a power leak or overload through that - can finally also be the screen. Was it an original HTC KAISER part?

I'm not sure on the part, I bought it new on ebay.
Same Here
This has been happening to my Tilt as well. While unplugged on a phone or internet connection it just shuts off. Sometimes it take several attempts to get it to boot again or I need to plug it in to get it to boot at all. I was wondering if it was a faulty battery but I haven't tried replacing it yet.

Dirty battery contacts, or contacts not making sufficient contact because they're too low, might cause that.
I had this problem two ways- WM 6.0 with spbshell would just lock up and turn off, could never figure out why. Removed spbshell and it was good.
Lately I had a problem where a 6-month old Seido extended battery was shorting itself out when I would grab the phone or twist it a certain way. Dropped old battery back in it, no issues.

This is exactly what mine does. The battery fits a little lose on the left side, but the contacts on the right side are touching and intact.
randomly turns off
im having the same problem. my phone just turns off when im on the phone or if im texting someone. It even turns off when i push my power save bottom on. I need help.
I have the same problem. What I've noticed is that it doesn't do it when it's plugged to the charger, but it turns off when it's running with the battery only.
My findings:
- Using it like a PDA no problems running on battery (no using any phone function)
- On a call, when it's running on the battery it turns off
- Using a Data conection or Wi-Fi when it's running on the battery it turns off
* On a call w/charger plugged in no problems
* Using Data or Wi-Fi w/charger plugged in no problems
I hope that's a battery related issue. I'm going to try to replace the battery and let's see if it fixes the problem.
Problem solved. New Battery
Tilt Battery
I'm having the exact same problem as jqman, I've had my Tytn II for more than a year now, and it has been great. For the past month it has started turning off randomly with no forewarning. I can charge it all day, the second I take it off external power and try to do anything from surfing the web to taking a call it just randomly shuts off. It may be a battery problem, because it sometimes shows low battery power immediately after disconnecting from the charger, but there was nothing that led up to this. The battery was fine one day, and then the next completely gone. Also, there is no oxidation on the battery contacts, and it seems in tightly (not loose at all). The back cover is also very steady, as I've had a plastic casing for the past year, and only recently took it off because of this problem.
I find it hard to be believe that it's a software or hardware problem - just suddenly after a year. I hard reset the phone and updated the ROM and it's still happening.
Any ideas/suggestions? Should I buy a new battery (is one year a al battery life)? Are generic batteries as good as the originals or should I only get the original Dynapack?
hey guys -
I'll try to give a brief rundown of my situation
When the problem started: I had let the battery drain to a critical level. While at this level, I dropped it on the floor and it turned off. From this point forward, I could turn the phone on and it would start up. The phone would almost fully boot, show the correct time - my current # of messages and everything - but the screen wouldn't respond to my taps and about 10 seconds after making it to the main screen, the phone would do the critical battery failure thing and shut off.
Now here are the weirder specifics
a. when plugged in to any sort of charger, phone won't boot past AT&T screen (but the amber charging light is shown)
b. phone won't recognize a charger once already booted (sort of)
b1. occasionally, if I plug in the charger on the Windows splash screen, the screen will light up a little more (indicating it knows a charger is there) and once windows loads, it will actually show the charger icon in the top right hand corner. but I still get the critical battery failure and the phone shuts off.
c. if I plug the phone into my computer, during those 10 seconds when the phone is booted, I can access the files on it thru ActiveSync. Not enough time to take anything off though, I'm afraid.
c1. if I plug the in charger at any point past the windows screen, I can get an audible indication from my computer a connection has been made.
d. tried charging over night - didnt work
e. tried leaving the battery out over night - didnt work
f. tried fiddling the battery in and out with charger plugged in - no joy
g. used friend's fully charged tilt battery/bought a new tilt battery - nope
I would like to get the data off (I was delinquent backing it off) and am avoiding a hard reset if possible. The phone is covered by insurance so replacement isn't a big deal - it would just be real convenient to get the data off the phone.
If anybody has an idea or has a solution...! Your help would be appreciated VERY much.

try a new battery, but this phrase stands out to me.
"I dropped it on the floor and it turned off"
My phone suffered some water damage and everything seems fine except for whatever piece of hardware checks if the battery is fully charged (is it on the battery itself?). The amber charging light was on for 5 hours and yet my phone would just boot up to the Today screen, produce a Battery Low message and shut off. I had my phone in the bootloader for a few minutes so I was fairly certain that the battery was charged. By some stroke of luck, I was able to use my phone for a short time. The phone recognized that the battery was full and I was able to browse the internet, make calls, etc. When I rebooted the phone to check if this was a permanent change, I found out that it was not. My phone went back to shutting off upon startup.
Is there a registry entry to disable automatic shut off? I could cook a crude ROM with just this registry entry so that at least my phone would be functional.
Or do I need a new battery?
Thanks in advance for your help
im having similar issue but not from water.. every time i use speakerphone the phone dies or using the camera.. this happens most of the time if i use either one.. im thinking its battery shorting out maybee.. once i plug it in via use or ac to give it power its fine.. i have a replacement battery coming so i hope that will fix it
My Kaiser phone also suffered some water damage from a spilt bottle of water. The amber charging light was on for hours and yet my phone would just boot up to the Today screen, produce a Battery Low message and shut off. By some stroke of luck, I was able to use my phone for a short time after the phone recognized that the battery was full and I was able to make calls etc. When I rebooted the phone after charging to check if this was a permanent change, I found out that it was not. My phone went back to shutting off upon startup. Brought a new battery but still experiencing the same problem. HELP
Hi guys..
I have had my Tilt now for about 2months and recently tried downloading a 200Meg file off the web with it. It drained the power even though the charger was plugged in and so I was clever enough to fool around with chargers...Bleh.. Anyway, so what had happened is that after me switching the phone off etc. I tried charging again without downloading and when I plug the charger in, NOTHING happens..the green light flashes like normal, no light changes and no blips or notifications come up or anything. If I switch the phone off and then plug the charger in, the red light appears and stays there (and I presume it charges). So now I can´t find a fix..Seen MANY other threads regarding similar problems but 90% result in getting a replacement from the supplier which is not possible for me since I don't work off contract and neither is the warranty still valid and neither do I live even NEAR a HTC dealer. I've tried soft resets, hard resets, restarting phone with charger and battery in, without battery in etcetc. The battery is fine.
So it seems my last resort would be opening up the phone and looking if by luck I can see or measure something. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated
Brian
I have same problem, My HTC only charge when power off, No active sync... but i could up rom because in bootloader 3.56 only show USB without serieal . Yesterday i uprom ship end restore SPL. Then my HTC Kaiser can't uprom. It only sirieal when conect USB.
I think it cause by software without hardware. So everyone help us...help me too
Yeah, mine doens't get recognised by my computer at all. Which means no backups or syncs somehow I think my friend's broken TYTN II is gonna come in handy...hmm....
And just for more info, I am as I'm speaking, charging my phone (with it being off) and the red light has been on around an hour long.. Gonna see if it goes off or changes.. Will report back once something happens
Brian
Edit: I just switched my phone on (after around 2 hours charging with it being shut down) even though the light was still red, battery is now 100%.. so.. I'm now downloading the next 200meg file and another 39 files to go
Update: Just something weird.. The tilt was charging(in its shut down mode) and then suddenly switched on by itself.............. uhm..yeah.. so once it came on, i looked and everything was still the same.. pulled out the charger, switched off, put charger back in(cause the battery was about 30%) and boom, green light and switches on again bleh.. so now I fiddled with the battery and charger, and got it to charge in its off state again with the red LED.

I thiink, it can "fix in booting safe mode". But I can set it to safe mode
You can try it, follow step in the link, then re tell to me!
every oen, who can help us?!
hey, I took a look there and I tried those things but it didn't work. Apparently there is no "Safe mode" for these phones unless you have a third-party software. So just to confirm, I took a look through the user manual and found nothing, Googled "HTC TyTN II Safe Mode" and found random stuff but not much related besides third-party Apps. So then I just tried randomly fooling around with my TyTN II by holding and pressing random sets of keys while pressing the soft reset button. No luck.
