Okay, this is a little odd -
I found myself getting stuck in bootloops on my G1, after updating to Cyanogen 4.2.10, and so I decided to go into recovery (Amon Ra) and wipe the ext partition.
Upon booting my phone back up again, everything worked great, very smooth. I pushed my (backed-up) apps back to the phone, and all was well...
Until I realized that the Market app was oddly missing. Other Google apps are there - Gmail, messaging, etc. But not the market.
In my hurry to fix my problem I neglected to make a full backup, and so, uhh, I'm sorta borked.
Any way I can get back the market? I know it's Google's secret little code, but is there any way someone can surreptitiously direct me towards an apk?
I'd be much obliged.

Stock SD card because I suck

You could find the Vending.apk in any of the full build's that don't use the legal work around like Cyanogen
I'd just download Dwang's or WG's build, unzip and you could find it in it's respective place
I have pretty much the same problem...
a few days ago my phone started spazzing after installing Cyanogen's 4.2.11 and there was nothing i could do except formatting my sd card and a factory reset... eventually, i got my phone back to work, but it only came with all of the default apps except for the Android Market.
So then i tried to install the HTC recovery image along with cyanogen 4.2.11.1 to see if that would fix my problem, but my market app is STILL missing. I really need my market app back -____- even though cyanogen's rom comes with slideme mobentoo marketplace, the app force closes whenever i try to open it.
can anyone help?
^ I would just start all over. Cyan is working on experimental now so you likely have the final stable build, for the time being anyway.
wipe, use AmonRAs recovery to partition your SD and get you to EXT4.
Flash HTC, immediately after flash cyan... reboot and you should have googles apps back (including market).
Download your apps and then go back to recovery and make a nandroid+Ext backup for any future issues.
I just startwed from scratch and am glad I did. My G1 seems a lot faster afterwards.
OR, do ^^ if you are capable.
vending was stored on the /system/sd/app (ext partition app folder), push it to /system/app so it won't get erased when you wipe ext.
The root of the problem is:
the market is a system app so it's in /system/app
however there is a new update for the market so when you open it and it connects to Google servers it updates the market app.
since most roms (like cyanogens) have app2sd setup ... when the android market updates itself, it installs on the ext partition. /system/sd (symb link)
So if you wipe your ext you also wipe the market but no other system apps because they reside on system memory.
maybe the new market needs to be included in these roms ... or make an exception of some sort. However ... that's probably what happened in your case. Hopefully you can understand that.
good day!

Hi!
After a full wipe (including ext partition), and manually reinstall my applications using the APK, the Market Download's section show nothing. Only apps installed via Market after the wipe shows on this section.
Obviusly, my manually installed APK don't get updates because don't appear on this section.
There are any way to force Market to relink this manually installed apps so it reapears as installed ? Then I can get updates.
I already tried to delete the 'cache' folder under the /data/data/com.android.vending directory, with no lucky.
Any idea ?
Thanks!
The only way to backup your market-database is using the backuptool titanium backup.
btw: This thread belongs to Q&A!!!
Use ATrackdog (avaiable in market for free), it's a great app.
Hi guys,
earlier today I updated my I9000 to XXJVR
I found the market in the rom is version 3.0.26
When I start downloading apps, market tell me there are insufficient space on my phone and download was cancelled. but my phone clearly has more than enough storage (over 1 GB for app and over 3G on SD card)
After re-installing market - no luck
After wiping download manager - no luck
After wiping cache - no luck
After wiping dalvik cache - no luck
After doing factory reset - no luck
Is there any way to fix this?
edit: Go back to 2.3.6, you can find the app in xda
That is a lingering issue some people are having with the new, improved Market.
Try going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Market and click Uninstall Upgrade.
If you don't have that option, download an earlier version of the Market or Gapps (should be in the Apps forum or at http://goo-inside.me/gapps), uninstall the Market using TB then install the old market.apk/flash the older Gapps.
i have no same, but have other problems with Market versions above 3.0.xx. I think , it is not problem with our phone, this is one from many problems Google Android Market. I was asked Google many times for fixing different issues (buyed apk not upgradable, than free version can downloading, not compatibile with SGS, and etc problems), but still stay big problems with devices Market.
Regards

Sad
I pretty like the new market layout
seems i have to use the old market for the time being.
The oldest market coming with the rom is just 3.0.26, and that market is not helping either
Edit: Going back to market 2.3.6 solved everything, let's hope it won't update itself...
I had the same problem but only with certain apps (Pocket Legends was one). It was because I had lagfix enabled, and this meant the market would not install apps over something like 28MB. Disabling lagfix sorted it out, and the new market seems to work fine for me now. Most apps install ok, but updating the big ones means manually downloading the apk from somewhere and installing it, rather than through the market.
Not sure if it's the same problem though, as I would expect the same behaviour on the previous market also...
I had the same problem, but my market automaticly update itself to 3.1.5 ;/ , how can i freeze updating ?
Mine is 3.0.27 and gives insufficient space error while downloading moto x mayhem
If you can't revert back to v2.3.6 then try installing thru this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15992973#post15992973
After that I needed to clear data for "Download Manager" and "Market" in Settings->Applications->Manage->All.
This error is a Samsung galaxy s problem afaik, Samsung needs to fix this.

Titanium Backup can freeze the Market Updater, if I recall correctly.
My soloution was
reverting to old market with old market.apk app located on these forums
reboot
clear cache
simple...go to applications>all>market>stop>clear data....then retry to download anything
Insufficient space - Problem Solved!!
the problem arises coz of limited Cache and the new market strictly uses /cache partition which is just ~27mb.
The best solution I've found is to use a Virtual partition of larger size for that cache.. here's a link to the thread with instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188972
When i found you can actually do something like this, i fell in love with android all over again!
ps: i'd recommend the cwm flashable version on the same thread, as its more permanent unless u delete the script manually..
You can flash Semaphore kernel and enable 50 mb cache. It should help.

I'll on darky 10.2 and i had the same problem since update to the new market.
clearing caches did not help, but i uninstalled updates from manage applications it worked fine.
Thanx
"Market Fix" App fixed this problem
I had the same problem & I used Market Fix App & it worked.
After using it I have downloaded 4-5 apps of around 20MB each & no problem.

nvm I used the HD2 NAND Toolkit and fixed my issue, now I have 45mb of cache
I've been having issues downloading apps larger then 20Mbs from the Android Market after updating to 3.0.27. Noticed there was a 3.1.3 floating around so I decided to install it and see if it helps with no luck. The error I usually get is insufficient space on the device. Some apps like Star Legends will download but then give me an incorrectly signed error. Other then using an alternative market (since the apps on the Android Market seem to be more frequently updated) is there any other work around? Or has anyone managed to hack the newest Android Market into bypassing that insufficient space check or something?
*edit* Just noticed I managed to post this in the Themes and Apps section... Sorry bout that could I get a mod to move to the Q&A Please?
Use titanium backup to integrate updates of system apps into rom and remove orphan data.
This solves it for me.
I'll give it a try (once I figure out what you mean lol) and report back.
*edit* Alright I gave it a shot but only Maps and YouTube were in the Integrate updates of system apps into ROM and the Remove Orphan Data was empty... Suppose I should note that I have Market version 3.1.3 installed now.

I'm on 3.0.27, doing that seems to work for me. Try rebooting after doing the titanium stuff.
Does it matter that the Market didn't even show up as an option for either operation?
*edit* nvm it seems to be working thanks for the tip!
legit fix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16612294&postcount=118
i had the issue while trying to install a larger app and this fixed it
when flashing this i also cleared /cache and dalvik through recovery
merging updates to system doesnt seem to solve the problem every time, but this does, i tested it on both 3.0.27 and 3.1.3 markets
Doesn't seem to work for me. I read somewhere, I think on the Samsung Infuse board, that google changed the download location from /data to /cache which prevents us from downloading larger apps. I don't know enough about android programming to switch it back, but I'm sure someone here does!!

The download location on the Capt has always been /cache. After the download it's installed to /data. The /cache partition is only 30M big which is why we can't download anything larger than that.

If the download location has always been to the cache, why has it suddenly stopped working? I can uninstall the Market update and download large apps just fine. It doesn't make any sense for it to stop working unless there was a change in the way the download process works. My hardware doesn't change by uninstalling the update so it can't be a hardware issue.

It seems a little further digging and someone else has found a way to get it to work. Check out haloimplants' solution here.
I have the cricket zio, with a z4 root, either rooted or unrooted; the problem is: a while ago, i somehow managed to get the android market app uninstalled and moved to the sd card- yeh, i know, a system app,- and then along the line somewhere i formatted the sd card and factory reset the phone...the market app was gone. Now, even though i downloaded a 3.3.11 ver of android market apk, it forces close before it even gets going, after installation..
questions are: what version of android market apk is cricket zio running? what specific directory is the app located? what file folders should i have as factory default? i have froyo.

yeh...thanks...now i have to buy a file browser that allows write access to the system folder.. I finally found and downloaded a compatible market apk. for my cricket zio, version 2.2.6, and then found out the free file browser i was using, Droid Explorer, didn't allow write privileges in folders that are read only, like the system folder. Otherwise its all good..was ready to forget this phone, even though i have full access to the amazon appstore.
Did you get it to work? Let me know if you need help. Gtalk with me [email protected]
