i now reached the begging point to help me with gps - Shift Development

hey guys
so many posts from me to ask your help for a newbie to install and set up a gps for my shift. I live in Israel, and I ask you kindly to tell me step by step guide to have a gps running on the vista side.
I really now reached the begging point, how much more humiliation do I need to show before someone can help
I am running age of beauty from thaihugo

Did you follow this?
http://www.paludour.net/GPS2BlueFAQ.html#USB
if not, tell me where you are stuck.
Otherwise, click on the gps2blue icon in the htc debug tools on wm side.
Make sure you install a gps progam on vista side. What's your choice?

Google Map
You should try google map. It's lighter and easy to use. Kindly ensure you activate HTCgps tool to connect with google map. It's easy and fast.
We will wait until the sd card available in our WM then we can use other GPS like garmin or others.
Cheers.

Don't change any settings in gps2blue. it must be com4.
on pc, the com you set is for your gps program. if you say com9, then configure igo to com 9.
gps2blue and pc side use tcp/ip to communicate. Have you established and activesync connection using usb tools before running everything?

just one more question, if i want to use the gps do i need to have access to the internet.
If yes, how can I use the GPS without internet, like I use it on my htc touch hd
thanks thaihugo

you don't need internet access. Just make sure you leave it a long time in an open area to get it's signal.

TomTom Navigator 6

I have just installed Navigator 6 to my TYTN II and it has asked me what type of GPS I have and which port it is connected to - Can anyone help me select the correct one to ensure it works.
Thanks
Whichever that generic wired option is then 9600 then com4
V 6.32, I think, has support for "built in GPS".
This way it automatically turns on the built in GPS and configures it.
No need to configure it manually.
Just get the Navigator.exe off of the ttn.cab file hosted on this FTP and you should be fine
FTP
im trying to download the tomtom cab whats the username and password? sorry if its a dumb question!!
Cheers
i got the download of the HTC website and installed and its asking for some maps.
where do i put them for it to see them?
CLEARLY you didn't do a search. This is on the WIKI.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
on the bottom of the page.
Wolfie, I'm not sure where you are getting your cab from, but you don't need username and pw.
Sning, right on your storage card will be good.
im trying to download from the xda ftp site. it asks me to login? any suggestions?

Thanks for the help guys, turned out I had installed it properly and it seems to be working fine although it did take a while to locate a signal. I had also messed about with the GPS settings by mistake but had put them back to what they were before and then did a reset using the button underneath (not sure if that's a hard or soft reset that is talked about).
I would suggest that anyone having problems go back in to tomtom software and configure the unit as mentioned by others i.e. Other NMEA Receiver; Baud Rate 4800; and COM 4 then go into the show GPS status and leave the system on a window ledge or something and it will find a signal. My device also does sometimes say no GPS device when first switched on to tomtom but this sorts itself out once you use the GPS status.
Hope some of this was helpful or may be I was just rambling

how to get gps working on wm6 side

hi! i am new at the forum and i have been looking how to get my shift fully operable. i have also liberated the wm6 side so i have now a full wm operative sistem. but when i have tried to connect to the built-in gps with google maps, it doesn't give me any signal, it doesn't get any satellite. i don't know how to configure the gps to have it working, i don't even know what's the com port of the gps neither the baud rate of it, so i cant get it working. do someone know how to fix that problem? is there any program or something that brings functionality to gps?
thanks for the help!
you need to flash any rom from this forum. Liberating is not enough.
And you need to applys HardSPL first.
any side effects?
Hi, thanks for the answer. i have been looking for "cooked roms" and i've found some ones. but i am not quite sure of doing the process of hard-spl and rom flashing... I wondered if doing this would eliminate some functions of the shift, like mobile internet sharing with vista or backlight luminance level misfunction... shared functions, for short. do you know if that is possible?
thanks for the help!

It depends on the roms. Mine have all functions activated, and work like a snapvue liberated with GPS

Shift GPS & Google Earth Connection Issues

Is it possible to have data connection (vista) and sync at the same time? I have been using GPS with Google Earth using Fransons GPSGate. Problem is whenever I establish sync between winmo and vista for the purposes of gps accessibility vista side, the data connection is immediately lost. Of course Google Earth requires active internet connection. Question is; is there some kind of configuration i can do to have both data and sync running at the same time? For now I am using a Nokia phone + Nokia PC Suite to get internet while shift is in sync mode which kind of defeats the purpose of having dedicated data line. Thx
Dear! we've discussed ways to use GPS in both sides Here hope it helps you

Sure I have read that thread. But the thread is basically about Garmin. Here I am asking about Google Earth that requires internet connection. Or to put it more precisely I was asking whether one can use 3G and sync vista side at the same time. However further search has confirmed that it is problematic using USBTool and 3G from winmo side concurrently as both use the same channel......

TomTom and automatic network on??

I have Installed TomTom and it works but cannot find maps because a memory leak for the moment ( somebody is working hard on this haha) but in the meantime should maybe help to have the network automatic on, so TomTom can find the maps on the sd card?
Or/and automatic usbtool on
Is there somebody who really navigate with TomTom????
Some input is appreciated

I did manage to get TomTom running, but it crashed within minutes because of lack of memory. I installed TomTom to the internal memory on WM side and stored the maps on a network drive on x86 side.
Now I'm using Garmin Mobile PC with Franson GPSgate instead. Works like a charm
Deadnex thanks for your reaction.
The TomTom did not crash without the maps. I finally put the map in the sync folder but that did not work either, got just a black screen. So I tried the garmin nroute with gps gate and that is perfect but that program is not so good and a very tiny view. I got XT working but it wants to have a garmin gps, if I want to use the build in gps I need an extra activation key, the details map is working. It is like you driving your car but when you want the speed of 80 km /HOUR THAN YOU HAVE TO GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD AGAIN. How did you overcome this???
It is most practical to have all automatic ON, like gps, usbtool and networking and do all the software thing in the vista side, there you have much more software and possibilties.
I only look for travel and phonesuite software on the vista side
Regards
you don't need to buy gpsgate with my rom. you have gps2blue. nlook for instruction in my rom thread.
Now I'm using Garmin Mobile PC with Franson GPSgate instead. Works like a charm
anyting details?Thanks
Yes!! Thanks for your input!! it works indeed perfect with pc mobile and gpsgate and I got win7 the latest to work, very stable this version recognised all the drivers and the snapvue with a clean install. This is really a big difference gps2bleu is not stable the connection is fluctuating, so I am back with gpsgate. Windows 6.5 is on his way with fingerfriendly today screen and more network friendly, so who know what that will bring to us
I only use the snapvue to connect gps and phone to the vista/win7 side because there are much more progtrams to use.
Somebody who knows a program for vista or win7 or xp that works as a phone suite sms calls etc

please someone provide step by step guide to use the GPS

Hey guys
I know I posted this before asking for help with the GPS
I live in Israel, I really wish to have a working GPS to use in Israel
How can I do that, I have used the age of beauty from Thaihugo.
After that I am stuck, since I don't know how to set it up, or what to use as software. Please someone I would really appreciate if someone writes a step by step guide on how to use the GPS on the shift. And how can I have a GPS on the Vista side
I am a newbie and I rely on you guys to learn, so far from this forum, I learned how to hardspl, and install custom roms. BUT the GPS from me is a different story it is so complicated for me to look for threads to that, so please I need a step by step guide
Thanks
Dude what kind of experince are you looking for?
If its turn by turn then its going to be running software on the vista side such as Garmin PC or iGo
If its windows mobile side then at this time its only google maps....
try this
HI if you want a real good basic gps program try BeeLine GPS. Its only a small app and it works great on the shift. http://www.visualgps.net/BeeLineGPS/default.htm
If you want a gps Nav, you need maps and at this stage it a "no go" because there in not enough storage on wm( no sd yet)
Guys I want GPS on PC side-
Do i just have to install the Garmin or IGO and thats it, or do I have to do something to set up the GPS from WM side, as I told u I have age of beauty running on WM side.
So please tell me what to do exactly

I belive you need to use "gps gate", there a a few post on how to that. I havent done it as I havent had the need yet.
The first or second post of Thaihugo's Age of Beauty Rom tells you how to connect GPS from WinMo to Vista side. You definitely need to follow the link, download the Windows software, install it and set up as per that website's instructions to get it working though.
I've done it and it seems to work fine and seems easier than GPSgate (which you also have to pay for whereas the one in the ROM is free)
I know it seems like an uphill battle, but honestly, really do read the forum as all the info is there
I know how to connect gps with ivsta, but i don't know how to configure it for google earth pro.can anyone help
