keyboard - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really had tested a lot new PPC`s but this one - ref. the keyboard is not good - even the IPHONE ist better in typing than the Diamond 2.
Today I tested the transcriber - it is like writing on eggs ....
What are your experience ?
If there will be no chage the device will go back on Monday.

After you used the device you can still return it?
I honestly love the keyboard, it's great. Too bad it doesn't support more languages than it does now.

Diamond Keypad Tiny.. Help!

I have recently updated to a fairly stripped down ROM (it only included the bog standard Keyboard thts way too small to use with finger).
I really like the HTC Keypad as it's easy as hell to use - but I've just tried to install it by installing EZinput and its showing about half the proper resolution - I think its QVGA. This has been a problem now for about 3-4 days and I absolutely despise having to use a QWERTY keypad. Currently got SPB keyboard on it (tried Resco too but its rubbish).
Can anyone upload their original diamond keypad or even an installation cab with all the VGA keyboards in? (qwerty, phone keypad etc).
Would be a great help!
Thanks guys.

download the keyboard of your choice (with arrow or without arrow)
That should work for you
does this have a keypad as in standard with * and # keys?
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
* 0 #
That style? Thats the one im looking for!
Thanks btw! didnt even know that site existed
This is the alternative if you want it in a keypad format

The difference between that and the previous one is there is no XT9 which is similar to T9 but with word prediction. Hope this helps
You my friend -
are the biggest legend in the world. Thats the stock VGA diamond one - and thats what I wanted!
Thank you so much.
p.s the damn no-arrows diamond2 one wont work... any idea why?
it wont let me select it :-(
Try this one: http://www.everythingdiamond.info/downloads/Savage25rcracer_TD2_K_NA.cab
That's the one that I cant select! :-(
Think I'll just need to change ROMs again.
Woooo. :-(
Just tried to install that keypad linked - wont work. Also wont uninstall.
The one with the arrows works but its damn annoying.

typing on the device

Hello,
I am really thinking of getting the HTC touch diamond2. I currently have HTC tilt (or tytn II). I use it mostly for messaging. Anyways, my question is: how easy is it to type on the device? Is it as good as an iphone (better or worse)? Can you use your finger tips or do you have to use the stylus? Is there a video I can watch someone typing on it?
Thank you
I have moved from the Touch Pro (with keyboard) like yourself I used it for texts and emails, I thought I would hate the new keyboard but its pretty good, its got heptic feedback on the keys and they are nicely spaced out. Its very responsive to use, the best HTC keyboard I have used and I dont make many mistakes and dont have to use stylus.
new keyboard is great for typing...holding it in two hands a writing with both fingers without any mistake...
That is indeed good news. Can't wait until I get mine. Hopefully it arrives tomorrow. I also type a lot on it and I am hoping that will be a pleasant experience.
Personally I have gone from an AT&T Tilt (Full HW Keyboard) to the TD2 and also thought I would hate the lack of hardware keyboard, but it has really grown on me, and with no problems at all with typing I might stick with the TD2 instead of going onto the TP2. It just works for me, though lack of 3g sucks for me here in the states... lol
I'm thinking of maybe getting the UK version, cause the device is delayed here in Norway.
Question is: Is it difficult to access special symbols (letters) like Æ Ø Å on the UK keyboard?
I've never owned an HTC device so don't know how one normally access them. They are however crucial, and used quite frequently.

This is a very interesting question, I have refrained from UK version till now, waiting for the french version only to get a soft keyboard with french layout (including é, ç, à, ...). I do not care having the OS localized in english (in fact, i would even choose english over french for the OS), but the qwerty layout is a deal breaker.
Is it possible to change the keyboard layout? Or even better, add different keyboard layout and T9 dictionaries so they appear simultaneously in the WinMo entry switcher? I would love to just switch among the different keyboard installed if needed (having a french one and a non-western thai one would be great, adding japanese would be even better )
I ordered mine from Expansys and they told me, after having talked to HTC, that it would be possible to update the device to include different keyboard layouts. I hope this is correct, because I cannot be without Swedish characters. Otherwise, could Fingerkeyboard solve the issue?
Hi!
Originally I got the 20th of April as a dispatch date form KlartSvar (the reseller used by my employer), but as you say the device is delayed. I talked to a representative from Brightpoint this morning regarding the delay, and he said that the new delivery date to resellers is the 5th of May. Hopefully this is correct, I will wait until then before deciding if I have to look around for a WWE edition somewhere.
If someone could give some information about if it's possible to write accent characters on the WWE xT9 keyboards, I would appreciate the feedback.
I guess that cabs for all languages for EzInput2 (topaz HTC keyboards) will eventually be available anyway, when localized devices start hitting resellers in different countries.

PK

Are you using the default EzInput? And in landscape mode or portrait? I have a Diamond and had to give up on the Full QWERTY as well as the Compact QWERTY because I hated one-handed typing (and it was too small to type with both hands).
I am currently using SpB Keyboard on my Diamond, with the landscape fullscreen keyboard, and so far that has helped a lot. I can type really fast with two thumbs now.
Special characters are available with the WWE version using the HTC full qwerty keyboard. They aren't visible on the keyboard, but if you press and hold for example the a key a popup character selector appears giving access to
eight different variations of accent including the Æ and Å (I'm typing this on a MAC and don't know how to access these characters on it so can only copy and paste)
You can also used the standard WM keyboard and get at them by pressing the symbol key, but its really only usable with the stylus.
I've got a Diamond, so my question is how is the qwerty keyboard in portrait mode? The reason I ask is because I read a review that said the screen width has not changed between the Diamond and Diamond2. That doesn't seem right. Can anyone comment on both the screen width and typing in portrait mode?
Hi!
Thanks for the feedback! What about the xT9 dictionary then, is it possible to switch to a different languages in the WWE edition? If so, which languages?

Its locked to english, but there may have been an option to select a different language at setup time, to be honest I can't remember and don't want to hard reset to find out. Perhaps someone else will know? If its English only that shouldn't really be a problem, just flash a ROM in your own language when its available.
Got my D2 today. Very happy. But there is no language option as far as the keyboard goes. Have not tried fingerkeyboard yet.

Bigger keyboard for the last official update ?

Hi !
It seems to me that the keyboard from the last update is a bit smaller compared to the original one, which looked like this one : http://www.actualitemobile.com/foru...ed0afa4cf4e9502a831020a20bfd0a32&topic=2079.0
I wanna know if I could find a way to have this keyboard back, with perhaps a more stable version than this hacked keyboard. I have quite big fingers, and it isn't yet easy to type in T9 on phone keyboard.
Or I'm open to other keyboards, as long as it has a phone Keyboard [ABC] [DEF] etc and T9 (Windows Mobile's is good).
Thank you.

Dialer-looking text input

Hey,
I hope that someone can help me out.
Since the screen is "quite" small... the keyboard in windows mobile is definetly too small, and even fingerkeyb requires some concentration.
Are there any good looking, perfectly working, dialer looking input SIPs?
12 button input with 1 - abc, 2-def, 3-ghi etc. Like on oldschool cellphones (and samsung touch versions)... with T9 textbook.
I guess there are a couple out there, which one is THE best?
saw this thread, with no answer...

Search for the OEM XT9 keyboard. There's a phone keypad mode.
Thanks!
I tried it and it works ok! I like it, think I'm gonna use it instead of fingerkeyb, at least for sms-writing with one hand. There are some issues though, it's not perfect.
Wonder why no-one focuses on creating a better soft keyboard (eg sony ericsson!!!)

[Q] Standard Keyboard (NumberPad Keyboard) for WP7 (Swype alternative)

Hi Guys!
I´m terribly searching for some keyboard alternatives for WP7, but it seems like there aren´t any alternatives at the moment, right?
I would really appreciate the development of a standard (12 Button) Keyboard like it was implemented in WM 6.1 - 6.5 and is implented in every Android build, on which each button represents 3 or 4 signs. In my personal experience writing goes damn fast (with one hand...for me, it´s even faster than swype) on such a keyboard, even while walking, cycling or driving (yeeeea I know, don´t type and drive... ). I used such a keyboard also with WM 6.5 and Android...(the shown pics are just some (to be honest: not very good) examples to show what I mean)
The keyboard implemented in WP7 is quite okay, but the buttons are really small (at least this depends on how thick your fingers are?! ) and it is impossible for me to type in a comfortable way while I´m walking ...
what do you guys think? are there any solutions/will there be such a layout in near future?
hello,
im looking for the phone keyboard too with T9 , im much much faster on phomne keyboard would be good if anyone can add this on wp7
regards
Same for me... the keyboard in wp7 is not bad, but on wm6.5 with swipe or T9 it was much faster to write a message.
Anyone an idea?
I'm not sure this is an area that will see any change in the short term. Microsoft seem keen to keep this locked down like the iPhone.
*grrr*...that´s really kind of sad...I´m really not comfortable with the native keyboard. But hope dies last
You can't change the keyboard on WP7. Microsoft is not allowing it. I don't believe anybody has found a way to do it either.

Arguably you should add '...yet' to the above statement, although Apple have retained their policy of not allowing alternative keyboards.
A Google search suggests there is no obvious activity around Swype and WP7 and while there are a few things around suggesting that Dasur (SlideIT) were looking to release a WP7 version of their keyboard, there is nothing obvious to support this on their website.
They may have had information from MS that they are not opening up the keyboard? Or maybe it's in development...?
Any news here?
