I am thinking of buying Breeze/MTeor but I wanted to get users opinon on the phone, things that I would like to use:
Pushmail, Naviagation.
Things I wanted to know about was:
1 - Does the phone freeze or hang ?
2 - Is there any problems where you miss alot of phone calls (had this issue on HTC TyTn)
3 - Does it work fast enough, navigating through menu and apps ?
4 - Will I be able to use TomTom ?
5 - If anyone has experience of Pocket PC, what the difference you find with Smartphone version ?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
first you could read the Wiki (Review's) maybe help you too!!
second:
i had an TyTn before the MTeor!
had also many problems with the tytn ... but most of them in wm5 ... with wm6 most is gone...
i had no phone hang yet on mteor! no calls missed ... i didn't expect any problems so far...
speed is very good! (is the only sp with a 300 mhz cpu) !!!
you are able to use tomtom!
once there is an special smartphone tomtom edition you also can use the pocketpc version! there is a programm called PSHelper with that programm you can act with the d-pad like you have a touchscreen (with a mouse coursor!!)
the differences between the ppc and sp are the missing of a touchscreen!! but as you can see on tomtom with pshelper there is also not a big problem!
some apps did not work on sp ... like the game worms... there are some special smartphone versions of apps out!!
for software just look in wiki!!
also theres a bit difference in the today screen but nothing big.. you did not have such plugins like on the ppc ... just browse the web for sbsh facade or look in to wiki i have attached a screenshot in the skin section ... there you can see the agenda software...
Thanks, I did look through the Wiki and the forum before posting.
I cannot find anything about PSHelper searched google too, do you have a link ?
I sold my TyTn and went for a treo 750v which I really do like, but I want to go to a smaller phone but keep alot of the functions, and the MTeor seems to be the perfect solution.
Which version of TomTom are you running, I have version 6 I use on my treo can I use this with PSHelper ?
Hi,
sorry my fault program calls sphelper
http://www.bobsoft.com/sphelper/
i used it with tomtom5 and 6 theres no difference...
simply explained... the programs that are written for ppc waits for input on screen! but you cant do that on a smartphone...
so the mouse cursor does that for you!!
for me the mteor is the best solution... it is a phone with pocketpc funktionalities!!
i have loved my tytn but the size and weight ....
if you want a slideout keyboard i prever you to wait for s730 ? because s710 has the slide out keyboard but the "slow" omap cpus ....
s730 with keyboard starts looking like my TyTn I think I'd be happy with the MTeor and hopefully with the new versions you mentions, should mean the MTeor resale price should be coming down, works for me.
1 - I haven't had any problems with the phone hanging.
2 - I have huge problems, especially when roaming, that the phone looses the connection to the network - even if the signal strength is good. Others have had a better experience.
3 - I find it fast enough.
4 - Only Tomtom mobile 5 will work. Tomtom navigator 6 is only done for PPC.
5 - I will be going the other way soon, getting a 3600 instead. I've never used a PPC yet.

I did some time ago. Cool maybe, but I find the resulting user interface (TT6+sphelper) almost unusable anyway. Maybe I should have written that TT6 doesn't work very well with MTeoR since TT6 is written for PPC and not smartphones. It can be made to work, barely.
Alright at last I won myself a Mteor on ebay, waiting for delivery hopefully Thursday, can't wait
So tomtom5 runs without the need for sp helper, tomtom6 you need sp helper is that right ?
Does it really make it unusable ?, Is sphelper always running? does it slow down the phone at all ?

yes
TT5 has a smartphone version and pocket version, but TT6 is pocket only. So you need rather additions to run pocket software like TT6

you need run it only when you want to use TT6
So should I just use TomTom Mobile 5 which was made for smartphone? (I take it voices is a problem)
Is there any benefit of using TomTom 6 ?
TT6 has much better maps.
Note: TT 5.200 is the lowest version you need.
Hi

2nd .. what is the best setup for getting a continuous 3g signal? my Nokia has it all the time! I can not make vedio calls
I am using ROM 1.35.456.3 and radio 0.93.25.ns26
Besides my HTC Touch Diamond, I also own a Nokia E90(for daily work) and a Nokia N95 8GB(when having family quality time, mostly weekends).
So far, I don't know of any HTC device to be only even close to Nokia's 3G reception quality. The E90 has full HSDPA signal reception, almost same with the N95 8GB in our bedroom, no problems here to check emails, get attachements ultrafast.
The Touch Diamond doesn't get a HSDPA signal at all(same place on my night desk) and if the "H" shows up(VERY rarely), it is only one bar and it falls back immediately to GPRS or EDGE when I try to download an attachment. Horrible 3G performance.
Regarding Touchflo3D and the "keyboard": I can't hide the feeling that HTC rushed things with the Touch Diamond. The reason could be the early introduction of the iPhone 3G, it could also be the fact that HTC needed a new "breakthrough" device for their carrier partners. If HTC would have put around 6 more months into Touchflo3D and hardware development, I'm pretty sure we would have seen a very nice product.
Touchflo3D looks absolutely stunning, no doubt about it. If it would work only half as good as it looks...well... I truely hope that during the following months and the additional pressure created through the new iPhone 2 and other interesting products from Nokia and Co., HTC will put more energy into Touchflo3D and hardware development. I wish Microsoft would use Touchflo3D as a benchmark for GUI design(not functionality!) because it really looks good, much better than Apple's iPhone "mini"OSX.
Right now, all early Touch Diamond adopters like us have to live with the flaws this beauty has. It is a stunning device but not even close to perfection. AT LEAST 6 months of software/hardware development are missing from this device, I know it sounds horrible and it is.
Lets hope that HTC and especially the steadily rising Touch Diamond developer community will find a way to improve Touchflo3D performance AND integration into WM6.1. Touchflo3D isn't fully implemented, it is more of a "cover" for WM6.1 and not a very thorough one. I just hope that some people will use this opportunity to embedd the Touchflo3D look even further into WM6.1, right now it looks like a halfbread "something", with that fancy Touchflo3D interface and that dusty WM original interface in one place. This needs to be changed.

Would be interested to know which rom your using and which network your on???. Reason i ask is that im with tmobile and their 3G coverage is brilliant, with my n95 8gb i could easily get 3.5g access but seeing as im getting my Diamond tommorrow...if im going to have major issues getting a decent 3g signal then the phone is no good to me.

Yep! anoying as hell. the only thing you can do is turn the keyboard off to see what you wrote, and then turn it back on to finish typing (the icon in the center bottom of the screen just in case u didnt know - but i'm sure u did!)
Or in some windows u can scroll the window down.
I tell you whats worse tho.. when you open opera and the HTC search page comes up.. you can't see what your trying either!

Hi there
Can anyone confirm the behaviour of the Diamond when being used as a modem and an incoming call is received i.e. is priority given to the inbound call and the data connection suspended? I plan to make considerable use (several hours per day) of the Diamond as modem but need to make sure I can still receive calls.
Much appreciated.
cheers
v.f.
Technically you can't use the Diamond as a modem, but rather you can use it as a 'Router' The way is works is that you initiate an Internet Connection on the phone itself using the 'Internet Sharing' application. This application will use the phone's modem to connect to the Internet and then share it out on a virtual LAN adapter for you. When you connect the phone to your PC, your PC will detect it as a 10 Mbps LAN adapter which would then be connected to your Gateway (phone) to the Internet. So in essence the phone acts as a Router for you. You don't 'dial' the modem connection from your PC as you would with most other phones.
Sharing with data isn't an issue with these newer phones. I can talk on my bluetooth headset while using the Internet connection. This depends whether your Telco in your area supports this multi mode capability or not, but nowdays it works almost everywhere.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
I can only tell for TyTN, but this should not be a difference:
Receiving a call is possible, also when there is an active data connection.
Many thanks for that - it sounds like the device will offer the functionality that I'm after. I'll be on the "3" network - you don't happen to know if they support the multi-mode capability you mention do you?
Thanks again.
In fact, Internet Sharing + receiving/making calls + browsing on the phone itself all at the same time is possible.

I've used my Touch Cruise on O2 UK and Vodafone UK and it works. However it still depends on area. I've once been in an area on Vodafone in which I only had GPRS coverage and then when a call came in it killed the data connection because it didn't support this multi mode.. however I only had this issue very very rarely so it's safe to assume that for a majority of the populated areas in the UK it's ok.
I've not used 3 before however I can confirm for you that the 3 Sim card will work in the phone because I've put 1 in before. (3 SIM cards are known to reject a lot of phones)
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
Cheers, that helps a lot. Even worst case if the data connection is dropped and the incoming call is given proirity then that is more desirable than the call being rejected (i.e. directed to voice mail).
I have a mobile broadband SIM from "3" that I'm going to put in there. The voice tariff isn't cheap, but I don't tend to make a lot of outgoing calls anyway - I'm more of a data user.
cheers

hey Voodoo:
No problems
Do you have your Diamond already, if you do could you please help me to check this? :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402453
Also, I've been told that a 3 'mobile broadband' SIM won't work in a normal phone? Not sure....
Why don't you port over to O2? Btw, I read that Orange has also launched HSDPA coverage in the UK...
I've been with Vodafone and O2 and generally O2 has got better coverage and provides more chances of an HSDPA signal getting picked up. Vodafone's coverage is just as good but with more areas giving 'GPRS only'. That just my personal observation. I take the train quite frequently and use the phone as a mobile broadband connection on board.
Cheers.

The battery isnt really that much of an issue if you disable the gprs auto attach feature in schaps advanced config. I did it last night and my battery is still sitting at about 5 bars and thats with a good few calls, sending a load of sms's and about 30 mins of web browsing.
But i imagine that ill be charging it again tonight...not really a problem as my nokia n95 was the same....always charged it at night whether it needed it or not.
I believe the real test will come when one tries to use the Diamond with TomTom 7 installed as a navigation device in a car... bet by the time you reach your intended destination the battery would be dead.. even the Touch Cruise couldn't last half a day with that sorta usage.
It'll probably be wise to keep a 12v to USB adapter in the car handy.
Btw another 'weird' problem with the Diamond is that when I use it with my super mini low quality thin retractable USB cable, the PC doesn't detect it properly although the phone does prompt me whether I want to use it for Active Sync or Disk Drive... very peculiar.. the cable's worked fine for me with my Touch Cruise.... any idea?? I don't want to be carrying thick heavy cables in my laptop bag

Its probably the cable, your laptop probably doesnt like it so wont detect theres a phone attached. The supplied USB cable isnt that thick...i carry mine in my back pocket
Thanks Spawn12...
Supplied USB cable IS thick!! fat and stiff!!! not sure if we both have the same ones?? Mine appears to have nice metallic rouded edges plugs on both ends and the cable itself is greyish... round and quite thick... well thicker than a standard USB cable anyway...
point is.. it's not a 'portable USB cable'... if you know what I mean.. to me portable stuff means being as light, small and least bulky as possible while maintaining its functionality.

Well i have mine in front of me and its the same one you have...maybe im not as fussy...it isnt exactly portable or as you said light, small and least bulky. I dont think ive read anywhere that the cable that comes with the Diamond is portable....perhaps try another portable usb cable and see if it works...could be that yours is duff.
Hahahah okiee... actually I find the original cable very beautiful and hence I'm just reluctant to take it out and use it coz I don't wanna get it scratched so soon
I'll look around for another mini USB cable that works...

Hi there,
I'm experiencing, that the WirelessLAN-Quality is extremely poor.
I'm next to my router and the Touch Diamond offers my ONE green bar and Rx-Rate of 1 to 12 MBit.
Is anything wrong? I already set the battery settings to maximum performance.
Thank you,

NO, it is not normal...
It could have also something to do with your router...
Have you tried you diamond with another router and see if the problem remains? If yes, than I would advise you to update your ROM to the lastest available version.
But first try to hard reset your device WITHOUT THE SIM CARD INSIDE.
HastaSSSS
why without eh sim card?
I don't know why...but one thing I know: sometimes when I reseted with the sim inside, I had some issues afterwards, like icons that didn't show up...other wi-fi problems, etc, etc etc...
I don't if it makes any sense, but since I started reseting and flashing without sim cards of sd cards inside, I've never had a single issue with any of my devices, this Diamond or any of the previous.
I don't have on my device not even 5% of the issues other user write on this forum. I could be because of this...I don't know...

will try on my nexr reset, it won't kill me after all
Maybe a "WM beginner question", but how can I hard reset my device?
Is there a shotcut or via Start-Menu?
Thank you very much!

That's interesting. I have the same problem with my Diamond since my last hard reset.
Even when I am close to my WiFi router, the Diamond loses the signal and has to reconnect every minute. Wireless LAN Performance is also very poor. Via HSDPA the weather updates takes a second or so. Via WLAN it takes about 10-15 seconds! Is there another chance to fix this accept for another hard reset?

ALL diamonds are very hot. However, I noticed that depending on the ROMS some make the device hotter than others. It could also be my senses, since I didn't measure it with any kind of thermometer.
Try a different ROM.There are plenty of choices now. Just download and install them.
You can find them all under the ROM development section.

Make sure the power/battery mix is indeed set to "maximum performance", it reverted back to "maximum battery life" on mine the other day for some reason and wifi is USELESS in that mode, pretty decent with "maximum performance" though although battery life drops like a rock.
i've experienced the same symptoms as mentioned above.
i also got my diamond from german amazon and the firmware is still stock.
setting the wlan power management seems to help, but as said before it drains the battery.
but maybe the problem is somewhere else: i read in some submenu of the phone, that the wlan disconnects itself when it no internet connection is required.
Did you already try going into (menu in touchflo3d) settings -> wireless lan -> powermode -> powermode -> "best performance"?
Don't know if I translated it correctly cause I got a dutch one.
However, this solved it for me. Normally the powermode of wireless lan is set to "best power saving" and well..that causes a weak link between your router and the phone.
You can try changing it, perhaps it helps
Using the stock rom 1.37.45.1 UK and both TLR roms I have an excellent signal to my router using the "Best Battery" setting, even when I'm in the garden and my router is a good distance away. Even my grandfathers router I also get a fantastic signal, even better than my Tytn 2 had.
My router is a Netgear WNR834B V2 and my grandfathers is also a Netgear router but his was provided by sky.
Perhaps people who have bad or good performance may want to list there router in order to give and idea if it's a certain brand that may be causing the problems.

My ROM-Version is the latest for the german model
The temp.problem is a known issue but they still have no workaround.
The WLAN performance is unknown. Simple answer: Just return it to the vendor.
So, I called amazon and they will send me another one. If the problem still remains, the new phone will also go back to amazon and I'll wait for Experia X1 or Touch Pro.
Thank you for your assistance!!

Hello,
My touch screen was dead, so i sent my phone to HTC french warehouse...
I received it back yesterday, but now to got wifi ntwork, i ve to be at less than 1 metter from the access point.
I think that people who repaired my phone forget to plug something like the antenna cable ???
Does anybody know how is in the phone ?
Is there somewhere on the web, a page that explain us, how to open diamond without breack it ?
THank you

2 months ago I disassembled my diamond trying to reach the digitizer / touch panel (eventually I failed to replace it) and when I assembled it back I too lost the wifi signal and I had to be very close to the access point. I re opened it it I found that the wifi antenna was unplugged so I plug it again and wifi is fixed.
Check the service manual here http://www.mediafire.com/?jnh4f2ndyzz

I re opened it it I found that the wifi antenna was unplugged so I plug it again and wifi is fixed.
Check the service manual here http://www.mediafire.com/?jnh4f2ndyzz
