Using the JF v1.51 CRB43 US (Cupcake) A2SD
Found Here: http://forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=8970.0
I rooted my phone yesterday, and the root process went smoothly. I only wanted to root to move my apps to sd. So I followed Marcus's method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512743 Thats when everything went downhill. When I rebooted my phone I was stuck at the "Android" load screen FOREVER. I had to remove my SD card take the battery out just to get the phone to get to the home screen. Once at the homescreen no apps worked. I've done this three times to try to find the issue and the issue seems to be Marcus's method. Everytime I use his method and reboot my phone it gets stuck at the android load screen.
Is there another method that won't get me stuck at the android load screen and allow me to move my apps? Thanks for anyone that helps.
That A2SD tutorial is only meant for the JF 1.5 rom. It works on JF 1.51 ADP but I don't think it would work with that US rom since it is different. You should try LucidRem here's the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480582

Hi. I rooted using ''http://theunlockr.com/''. One click root. I then flashed cyanogen 1.2 on to my phone and put the prodigul sun theme on it. However I then got bored of this and wanted to flash donut 1.6, but still keeping my rooting abilities. So I downloaded it from this link
''http://db.androidspin.com/android_developer_display.asp?developerid=21''
''TheOfficial TMO CRC37 - EU v1.8.4'' <--- im in UK (downloaded base image)
Put it on to my sd card and renamed it ''update''
Did a nandroid back up then applied update
Then rebooted
NOW THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM IS AT!
When it gets to the ''android'' start up screen bit, the flashing bit that goes across the word sometimes stops every so often, as if its in a loop. Iv been waiting for it start up on this screen for a good 10-15 minutes now.
Does anyone know where I went wrong? Any help be be so greatly appreciated!
1st u need cyanogen' 1.4 recovery. And crc37 isnt donut its cupcake. So when u find the donut rom put at the root of you sd wipe and flash. Should be good after that!

Hey, i was trying to install the SenseHERO rom on my phone when i got a line 80 error, so i read somewhere a fix for that is to install the latest Radio and Special SPL. after installing the spl from the sd card, my phone will not start, it willl stay in the T-mobile G1 Splash page. I cannot get into the recovery (also stcuk on g1 load page) and i cannot get to root (stuck on g1 load page)
and advice is GREATLY apperciate
thank you
(waited over 15 mins fo it to start up, still on splash screen)
did you install the new radio first?
no. Which i guess i am assuming i am supposed to. is my phone completely screwed, or is it fixable..
yes. radio first, spl second. sounds like you bricked it. still under warranty?

can u boot into recovery ?
did u do nandroid back up ?
I am also stuck at startup. what i did was install jacHERO Rom.
what i did was first unrooted my Stock (1.6). by using www.androidactivity.com/root/root.apk
and after this i installed JF-1.5. got rooted 1.6. then patitioned my sd card and installed the jacHero ROM. it worked. but i wanted to revert back to rooted 1.6 version. so i repeated all the steps and got a working rooted android 1.6. But then i though i should partition the memory card and did the same by going into recovery console and running parted. when i rebooted my phone gets stuck at the g1 logo and doesnt go into recovery mode or fast mode either. ?
what should i do plzzz help

It's not technically possible to brick a g1 by partitioning the sdcard... unless you did something REALLY stupid with parted, you should be able to recover. What were the exact commands you used in parted?
i have a 2gb Card (1873MB)
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 1297
mkpartfs primary ext2 1297 1809
mkpartfs primary linux-swap 1809-1973
and then upgarde_fs

No,
and
Yes.
Installing the new radio and SPL isn't the fix to get Hero working, they're the requirements! (and they're posted at the top of almost all Hero ROM threads.) You should have been running the new radio anyway, as the old one is for 1.1, not 1.5/1.6. New SPL without radio will brick your phone, no way to recovery it.
Just go to a tmo store (assuming you have a contract with them) and say that after the last update you rebooted your phone and that's what it looks like. Don't use any words like 'brick', just act like you no nothing about computer so they wont suspect anything
Ok here is the story. I rooted my phone a while ago and have been on JF 1.51 or whatevr the latest JF rom is. recently i discovered that he doesnt do updates anymore and so i tried the new cryo updater in the market. downloaded it to my phone via the app and chose the install option. after the the phone wouldnt make it past the "tmobile g1" screen(the first screen) I can boot into recovery mode and it says jf recovery 1.42 or something like that. thats as far as i can get.
for now i want to go back to JF 1.51 and the only way i can get a file onto my sd card is to remove it from the phone and use a hub, install files from my pc and then reinstall the sd card into the phone. I just dont know exactly which files to load onto my sd card and in which order and where to get them from??
will it even work that way??? I just want my phone to work again lol
Any help will be great!!!
nevermind, i figured it out. I had to dl hardspl and update it with that first. then just applied the jf update.
I was running JF 1.42 for several months, and not thinking about it (as I always used cyanogen mod before this rom) and seeing my buddys new nexus one, I wanted to get the newest cyanogenmod and see what it had to offer.
I went to his site and took a look at the wiki and got to here.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_or_other_rooted_ROMs
Again, not thinking as I thought i was running Cyan (and not JF) i worked through that, moving the files to my sd card, until I noticed that I couldn't "Apply any zip from SD", so I went here
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Manually_renaming_files_on_old_recovery_images
And when i change the directory to sdcard, it doesn't show anything on my sdcard to change teh name to sd (and its on there, tried two different cards). Even typing in ls it doesn't show ANYTHING under the sdcard directory. I looked throughout all the directories i can access and don't see the files anywhere.
And I'm now stuck on the G1 screen when I boot, and although it'll install & apply an update from the recovery boot screen, it just freezes there (let it sit for 25 minutes).
I tried a bunch of stuff, and can't hook it up to my comp via ADK (as i can't boot my phone) and I've been on here for 3 hours searchign for stuff and installing/trying all kinds of stuff
Any ideas? Shoudl I just throw the stock firmware on there and go from there (re-root?)?
I see that JF 1.5 build doesn't require me to install the 1.50 radio from the htc page at the same time as the cyan's. I'm gonna try to update to JF 1.5, then JF to newest cyan
What? All you need to do to install a Cyan ROM is flash the ADP1 recovery-ROM, then Cyan imedietly afterwards, following usual protocol(wipe data, dalvik, ext, fix ext, wipe data again, then flash the ADP1, then Cyan)
Excuse my lack of direction lol, I've been out of the rooting scene since mid last year lol.
Is the recovery rom from cyanogen?
The only one's I get from a search are:
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partne...f&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=adp1+recovery+rom&sa=Search
Again, sorry for seeming like a noob, I hate it when I go on forums where I'm the expert, but I've searched for hours tonight, and i'm completely lost
And whats this 'usual protocol', I've never had to do that ( I never had apps to sd or anything )
Thanks
I've tried flashing multiple roms, every one sticks at the g1 screen.
I just tried flashing a recovery image, but I'm getting "sh: flash image not found"
Can anyone point me in the right direction here????
got a hero 2.1update1 on .6... tried to downgrade it with no success.
tried unrevoked and root2 methods with no success... just says Killed. which usually means its being blocked... didnt know if any1 knew a method or a way to downgrade this phone
when i try to downgrade to .5 the phone reboots from the app and it just doesnt detect it after that... says its not plugged into usb... odd
tried factory defaults, etc
anything i'm missing?
If unrevoked worked, you would have a new Superuser Permissions app in your app tray

the phone keeps hanging after reboot on trying to downgrade from .6 to .5
I can repeatedly get a temp root using this method:
forum.sdx-developers.com/epic-development/adb-root-exploit-test/
which also works on a Samsung Intercept and Epic (Galaxy S). All 3 phones (Hero, Intercept, and Epic) are Sprint CDMA's.
But I can't get the root to be permanent on the Hero because the it doesn't seem to have the /system/bin/playlogo file and therefore doesn't execute the exploit on boot...
I'm open to ideas...

you can. I ran into the same problem with my recently replaced hero. wouldnt do the downgrade to .5 loaded up oneclick. got root. loaded up rom manager and then flashed a recovery image from there. then I could boot into recovery and flash any rom I wanted. took about 5 minutes to do.
so now am keeping both files on my sd card just in case I ever have to swap my phone again I can root and flash before I even leave the store.
i downloaded clockwork recovery image from internet and did adb push of this image to /sdcard and used ROM Manager to flash this recovery image. initially, couple of times, the script reported error. i had to retry couple of times and then it worked.
i am now using ROM manager to flash CM6 on my htc hero. so far so good.
thanks a bunch folks for all your hard work. i am very excited it
