I need help big time!!!! - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok here is the story. I rooted my phone a while ago and have been on JF 1.51 or whatevr the latest JF rom is. recently i discovered that he doesnt do updates anymore and so i tried the new cryo updater in the market. downloaded it to my phone via the app and chose the install option. after the the phone wouldnt make it past the "tmobile g1" screen(the first screen) I can boot into recovery mode and it says jf recovery 1.42 or something like that. thats as far as i can get.
for now i want to go back to JF 1.51 and the only way i can get a file onto my sd card is to remove it from the phone and use a hub, install files from my pc and then reinstall the sd card into the phone. I just dont know exactly which files to load onto my sd card and in which order and where to get them from??
will it even work that way??? I just want my phone to work again lol
Any help will be great!!!

nevermind, i figured it out. I had to dl hardspl and update it with that first. then just applied the jf update.

Problem With JF 1.51 & Apps2SD Method...NEED HELP!

Using the JF v1.51 CRB43 US (Cupcake) A2SD
Found Here: http://forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=8970.0
I rooted my phone yesterday, and the root process went smoothly. I only wanted to root to move my apps to sd. So I followed Marcus's method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512743 Thats when everything went downhill. When I rebooted my phone I was stuck at the "Android" load screen FOREVER. I had to remove my SD card take the battery out just to get the phone to get to the home screen. Once at the homescreen no apps worked. I've done this three times to try to find the issue and the issue seems to be Marcus's method. Everytime I use his method and reboot my phone it gets stuck at the android load screen.
Is there another method that won't get me stuck at the android load screen and allow me to move my apps? Thanks for anyone that helps.
That A2SD tutorial is only meant for the JF 1.5 rom. It works on JF 1.51 ADP but I don't think it would work with that US rom since it is different. You should try LucidRem here's the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480582

Stuck at G1 Screening

Ok so lets start out by saying i know i am not bricked because i am able to get into fastboot as well as recovery. So this all started when i tried to move to CyanogenMod v4.2.13 . At 1st i was on Cyanongen 4.2.10 which i was having some problems on so i wanted to move to a new rom. I then went to flash xROM Eclair-v1.0 which went ok but then i started to get FCs and wanted to go back to Cyanogen roms. I then flashed the 4.2.13 rom and i am where i am not. Every time i have tried to re flash the the rom i have done a full wipe of both the phone and the EXT, but i get stuck on the G1 screen every time no matter what. I have let it seat there for 30 mins with no luck at all. Not sure what to try now. Any ideas would be great.
Here is what i am running right now.
Fastboot reads
Dream PVT 32B ENG S-Off
Hboot-1.33.2005
Radio-2.22.19.26I
I am running the RA recovery RA-Dream-v1.5.1
Any help would be great thanks.
Have you tried to downgrade with dream.nhg and reroot ? I'm sure therebis better method then this too I'm jus throwing idea out there would wait for this and some one with more experince to help out.
Also did you flash the 1.6 ota before cyan rom, just trying make it clear for future questions.. Also try a different rom suggest trying superd 1.2 it's super fast and very stable
No don't downgrade using dream.nbh it will downgrade the radio and kill your phone!
You already have the DangerSPL installed, so you can't downgrade the radio anymore.
Just try to flash a ROM which was made for the DangerSPL (also called DeathSPL, HaykuroSPL etc.)
Same problem-FREAKING OUT
Hi,
I think I have the same problem and I think my phone is bricked. A long time ago I changed the two splash screen pictures and not I can't event get past the first 1. I'm stuck at the first splash screen.
I just learned that everytime you want to flash cyan, you have to flash the radio 1.6, wipe then falsh the cyan rom. I think I did some mis steps and effed it up. PLEASE HELP.
I think I have the Danger SPL that sats Dream PVT 32B ENG S-Off, HBOOT 1.33.2005 (DREA10000), CPLD_4, Radio 2.22.19.26I, Apr 20 2009,15:30:43. I have JF 1.42 recovery and been trying to update to Cm recovery1.4 but have had no luck because of these problems.
How do you flash a rom from the SPL screen with the three android on skateboards. I just need to figure this out please.
IS MY PHONE DEAD?

Where did you read that... It's not true.
And no - your phone is most likely not "dead."
oh phew! what should I do now tho? I just hit camera and power and then hit back and reset the device by pushing send and that worked but now it won't start again.
Should I wipe and try the same spl thing again?

Wow thanks for saying thatt I did not see that danger spl was flashed! Good catch! So yes don't downgrade! I'm sure you can flash orinial spl again too..
What you can try is super d 1.6 that requires "danger spl"
how do we go about getting a super d 1.6? what is that?

To access recovery, hold Home + Power.
If you have a ROM on your SD card (the root), flash it (ALT + S i think it is.) If your ROM requires a wipe, ALT + W wipes.
Make sure you have the right Radio + SPL for whatever ROM you run.
JGo to the develop forums and look for super d 1.6 rom.. and flash it like any other rom.. wipe factory reset then flash any zip it requires danger spl so should for those that have it.. like said its really good and pretty well stable and blazing fast

Oh i had a question,
when i take my sd card out and then go to the spl and reset the device, it worked. does that mean that there is something wrong with my sd card? If so do you know where there are instructions to reformat it?

So you get passed the G1 screen? If you have a extra sd card that's not partation use that to flash your rom(make sure it'd formated to fat32) then when you get into a rom put your partation sd back in then go to settings and format sd card there then go into recovery Amon ra and repartation sd.. Jus a suggestion too you can reformat within recovery too I jus don't kno the commands
Well what i have been trying is to get 4.2.8 back since that has been the best rom i think Cyanogen has had out, but that doesn't even work when it has always been my backup rom. Well I am about to try Super D 1.6 will report back after it.
Edit: Well SuperD 1.6 flashed good and is running but why is it that no mater how many times i try i can't get CyanogenMod to flash ok when i was able to do it before.
Ooo I liked cyan roms but notice some lags after awhile use superd is great and well worth trying it
I figured it OUT! I think my sd card was courrupted or something because it wouldn't boot with the card in but when I took it out and booted using the Danger SPL like I described a few posts back, it worked and got past the first boot screen.
Then I flash cm_recovery_1.4.img but leaving it on the sd and reinserting the sd card when the phone booted. (Oh and I flashed cm 4.2.9.1 because I heard its the most stable)
Next I reformated my sdcard and then partitioned it using the following instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714&highlight=partition+sd
Hope this helps anyone who has same problem. THANK YOU ILOST! Is yours working now too?
Forget the thread all is well again with Cyanogen Roms working. Turns out my SD card needed to be repartitioned but since i was at school all day. I wasn't able to get on a PC and download the ROM. Wonder why the card needed to be repartitioned, but whatever it works now thanks for taking the time to read the thread.
just flash the base rom then flash cyanogen!!!! or flash dwang!!!!!
Nice to hear PROD, I think you had the same problem that I had.
OKAY, now since I've been reflashing like crazy and lost ALL my old apps and imformation since I was using JF 1.5 before.
However, I backed up on nandroid before all this craze, does anyone know how to replace certain files like password safe or shipping list apps and daat on a new nandroid backup so then essentially all my old information can be on this new platform???
Well glad to see both you got working again! Congrats! Hope all will stat well I had this same problem continously. And I believe it's due to cheap / low class sdcards.. Usually when I flash from a different rom and I need to wipe, usually backup what's on sd and apps using titanium backup then format sdcard within phone the flash new rom after I repart it
Congrats to you ilost, you got this thread going well.
I used my backup but when I use that or nandroid then it replaces my recovery back to the old JF recovery and then I'm back at square one so I'm looking for a way to replace or insert certain old nandroid files into a new nandroid file.

Stuck on loading img

I was running JF 1.42 for several months, and not thinking about it (as I always used cyanogen mod before this rom) and seeing my buddys new nexus one, I wanted to get the newest cyanogenmod and see what it had to offer.
I went to his site and took a look at the wiki and got to here.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_or_other_rooted_ROMs
Again, not thinking as I thought i was running Cyan (and not JF) i worked through that, moving the files to my sd card, until I noticed that I couldn't "Apply any zip from SD", so I went here
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Manually_renaming_files_on_old_recovery_images
And when i change the directory to sdcard, it doesn't show anything on my sdcard to change teh name to sd (and its on there, tried two different cards). Even typing in ls it doesn't show ANYTHING under the sdcard directory. I looked throughout all the directories i can access and don't see the files anywhere.
And I'm now stuck on the G1 screen when I boot, and although it'll install & apply an update from the recovery boot screen, it just freezes there (let it sit for 25 minutes).
I tried a bunch of stuff, and can't hook it up to my comp via ADK (as i can't boot my phone) and I've been on here for 3 hours searchign for stuff and installing/trying all kinds of stuff
Any ideas? Shoudl I just throw the stock firmware on there and go from there (re-root?)?
I see that JF 1.5 build doesn't require me to install the 1.50 radio from the htc page at the same time as the cyan's. I'm gonna try to update to JF 1.5, then JF to newest cyan
What? All you need to do to install a Cyan ROM is flash the ADP1 recovery-ROM, then Cyan imedietly afterwards, following usual protocol(wipe data, dalvik, ext, fix ext, wipe data again, then flash the ADP1, then Cyan)
Excuse my lack of direction lol, I've been out of the rooting scene since mid last year lol.
Is the recovery rom from cyanogen?
The only one's I get from a search are:
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partne...f&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=adp1+recovery+rom&sa=Search
Again, sorry for seeming like a noob, I hate it when I go on forums where I'm the expert, but I've searched for hours tonight, and i'm completely lost
And whats this 'usual protocol', I've never had to do that ( I never had apps to sd or anything )
Thanks
I've tried flashing multiple roms, every one sticks at the g1 screen.
I just tried flashing a recovery image, but I'm getting "sh: flash image not found"
Can anyone point me in the right direction here????

Danger Spl and Cyanogen 5.0 Question

Flashed the Danger Spl today and during the reboot for it my son decided it would be funny to remove my battery and hide it (yes hes still alive ^^). Now, my phone will boot into recovery but my cyanogen rom file is corrupted according to my phone and won't install. My question is is there anyway to download a new rom file through the use of console or am i pretty much screwed for now? Yes i know i'm on a pc posting this but i can't download files on my work pc and my personal pc isn't working currently. I have the Gapps file on sdcard but was wondering if there was anyway to download the new cyanogen rom from console? Any help is appreciated.
you could theoretically do it through the console using the wget command if your data connection happens to be miraculously working. otherwise, I would say no. my recommendation, find a buddy who can download it for you, toss it on your sd card and go from there.
Ya kinda what i figured was just hoping that someone else knew something i could do in console that i didn't. Thanks for the help though ^^

rooted g1 - help

hi
i'm a complete novice. i got a local shop to root my t mobile g1, which they have done. The reason i wanted this is so that i could wifi tether it. however they were unable to get this next step to work. i have tried it at home through watching you tube and looking at sites like this - but no luck.
I'm seriously thinking of going back to where i was ie put it back to 1.6 and forget the tethering part. can i do this on a rooted phone, i wish i never rooted it. it cant even find linda file manager in the market anymore.
please help
i am on firmware version 1.0. any help would be appreciated. i guess i shouldn't have got involved in stuff i didn't understand!!!

First you should always do your own work so you understand whats going on. if your still on 1.0 you need to update to a newer firmware (at least 1.5 or 1.6 or even jump up to 2.1). Thats prolly why your not seeing certain things in the market and why wifi tether isnt' working. That shop sounds like they don't know what they are doing.
i know. leave things if you dont understand them. lesson learnt. how do i get back back or should i get an expert to get me back to 1.6?

Well techincally the "hard part" is done. All you need to do is find a rom that you want. Cyanogen has a stable 1.6 build that you can run. Just put the .zip on the sd card and flash and everything will start working. Let me know if you need any details on how to do anything.
hi

thanks for the advice. sorry to be dum. So a ROM on a G1 is like an operating system? So if i put on Cyanogen it will allow me to upgrade to 1.6. When you say put the .zip on the sd card you mean there will be a file called cyananogen.zip that i will have downloaded. Put it onto the SD card, and by flash you mean run the file?
sorry but all this terminology is new to me. ROM in my day was read only memory.
grateful for any simple instructions. thanks in advance

First install this recovery (all the instructions are included)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
Then here is the thread for cyanogen's stable build with installation instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567610
And if you want to jump to a 2.1 firmware here's his that runs great
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/index....c-would-you-like-a-pony-v507-test5-05132010/?
But basically you'll download his file which will be a zip file (don't matter what its called) and put it on the root of the sd card (in no folders), turn the phone off. Start the phone in bootloader mode (home and power button, hold the 2 buttons in until you get to your recovery screen and then just flash your zip file.
And I'm like you I don't like calling them rom's either, I'm not real old but older than most on here. But everyone calls them rom's. I'd rather just call them builds. Let me know if you understand everything.
