A new set of APIs is being introduced that will enable application developers to take advantage of the new Windows Mobile 6.5 touch gesture framework. The gesture APIs allow an application to handle touch gesture input and provide a visually consistent experience with the rest of the device UI. Note that the gesture APIs are only available on the Windows Mobile Classic and Professional SKUs. The headers and libraries are installed in the Windows Mobile SDK\Pocket PC\ folder. Samples that make use of these APIs are installed into the Windows Mobile 6.5 Developer Tool Kit\Samples\ folder.

Awesome thanks for sharing... I didn't know this was available yet!

Just saw this now on the MS website.
Did a search here to see if anybody had posted it yet, beat me to it

and yes, this is what every one was waiting for.
thanks alot mate.

Excellent mate, was looking for this!!

Great, thanks for that

I still think MS are missing out on a lot of development by not supporting the Express editions of Visual Studio... I for one fancy 'having a go' but I don't have the higher version of VS

Thank for share this information, I was looking for it!
Thanks!

MS released standalone emulator and localized ROMs

I have noticed that MS has a standalone windows mobile emulator for free on its website, to be installed for demostrations on machines which do not have Visual Studio installed. It also has Windows Mobile 5 ROM images localized to be used with it. Maybe devs (Tuatara & co) can look into it and see if it might contain useful stuff? Being able to localize TuMa ROM builds would be awesome...
The WM5 builds in the emulator images are too old to use, the only use of them may be localization for WM5 devices (which is not so easy by the way)

Shell i need any tool to develop touch flow application using Wm 6.0

Hi anybody tell how to develop touch flow( Like HTC Diamond) application using Wm 6.0 SDK to PPC
Touch Flow 3D (Manila) for the Diamond is developed in LUA. There are threads in the Diamond Themes, Applications and Software forum about editing and developing Touch Flow 3D. As far as I know you can't use Visual Studio and the Windows Mobile SDK, yet..

On some configurations, repairing the emulator image pack may show an error dialog if Visual Studio is not installed. The dialog can be closed and the repair will finish successfully.
Removing the emulator image package will remove the Cellular Emulator shortcut from the Start Menu (when other locales or the Windows Mobile 6 SDKs are installed). Refreshing the remaining locales or the SDK will re-install the shortcut.

HTC TyTN II Kaiser - C++

Hi,
I'm working on a networking project. Im using the following device:
Platform: HTC TyTN II Kaiser
Operating System: Windows Mobile 6.1
I have a C++ programme that runs on linux in my computer. How can I run the same in this mobile device?
Many thanks
*Thread moved*
You need to use MS Visual Studio 2005 (or 2008) to compile the C++ program.
Or embedded visual C++.
A list of dev tools for PPC is on the wiki : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Complete list of Development links and resources
Thanks
Dave

Throwing in my 2 cents in. Save yourself the trouble and don't even consider Embedded Visual C++ (4). Stick VS 2005+ and you'll be good.
The free express versions do not support mobile development.

This is what you need to know. There are SDKs for Pocket PCs that are built into Visual Studio. The default ones are adequate. Typically, you'll connect to a PDA/PocketPC via ActiveSync. Visual Studio will pick up on this. There are specific mobile properties and options for this.
From that point, it's point and shoot. When you debug an application, it will automatically go over to the Windows CE device. If you're doing .Net it will install a cab for .Net
Thanks again Peter for your reply.
Even though my project is to programme for this HTC device I don't have the device yet. So what I need to do is test it on my laptop.
Is there any Windows Mobile 'simulator' that I can run on my computer and test?
Also I will need to install Visual Studio on this simulator, is it?

Hi Peter,
Please take a look at the above links. Are these any of the ones I should use?
Thanks
You want to get a copy of Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 if you are serious about programming - I got it from my university and the MSDNAA Website which allows students to download selected MS software which is related to my course for free - and being a computer science student they give me VS 08.
But it is available on several torrent websites. Remember I am not recommending nor do I condone illegal downloading of pirated software - I am only providing information for research purposes.
Why do you want it?
Its a complete developement environment - You get everything - Including an emulator to test your programs. You can download plugins, which let you program in other languages (e.g. I have the VB Mobile plugin which allows me to program in VB for mobile devices) - The plugins are free.
Personally, I use it for a large chunk of my programming - as it supports a vast array of programming languages - and it includes built in compilers (I know this sounds obvious, but I have used programming environments which do not contain compilers), Emulators (for testing) and can support alot more with downloadable plugins (obviously you need the SDK).
If your PC is a little old (eg early XP) - get VS05 - but if you have a newer PC (late XP to Vista), get VS08, they both do basically the same thing.
Hope this helps.
Hi again,
Many thanks for your reply
Will this version of VS work for my project? :
Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition (90-day Trial)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ec-ed72-4a79-8961-25635db0192b&displaylang=en
If it does... then i will install it first in my laptop (which run Win XP Pro) and then I will install the emulator.
This is the emulator right?
