you must be one of those people who dont know what google is. search engines were designed for this exact thing
There are instructions all over this Kaiser forums. But you'll find most here insist that you read on your own because changing bootloader and flashing ROM is not entirely risk free. You need to read through and through all the materials you can find and decide whether it is worth you time, effort, and most importantly risk.
I just flashed mine this past Thursday and it took a few hours to get everything just right. (Well, actually I'm still messing around with it.) You need to decide whether you "enjoy" spending your time tinkering with the phone. If not, you are better off staying with your current OS.
Put it this way, if you are not even willing to invest time to research, you will most likely brick your phone. I don't think you want that.

I have found after about a week of reading that everything is here, just have to have a some basics things, and learning skills
1) Patience (tweaking, Flashing, cooking burning is not a speed skill, but rather an mind skill..while not generally a patient person, i know that is the only way to learn and make the info i found work!)
2) Cab file installer type person does not = ROM flash type person ( I like my cab files though, they are like xmas morning when i was 8, anxious to see what i got )
3) I never learned any lasting skill from saying to others "how do I....." conversely, I have learned a lot by saying to myself, "this should work by doing this, ohh wait...that failed, hard reset...then how about this...."then searching out more info in the search icon in the upper right corner by your user name. Look at the other members "call for help" every now and then after the beloved Google cry, (which I equate to telling people at work to reboot ) you find what they did wrong so you don't have to.)
I have been on here a week, bookmarked a dozen noob threads, and saturday night said...enough reading, this Tilt is either gonna be a paperweight or on 6.5...(I had one good Tilt, and one that I mangled the KB ribbon cable changing the screen a second time, so I only use onscreen KB for it so I wasn't really that brave can you guess which one i flashed?? )
Now enough preachy stuff, try doing some searching on "Noob Flashing" or "Flashing for dummies" (I have done these searches myself here in XDA, while in life i am not stupid, on here I am both a "noob" and a dummy.... but not for long!
NOTE: if you cannot live with out a phone and this is your only cell phone you may want to think about just finding some cab files, search on "Skins" or manilla 2d was pretty cool....but I do not think you will find a cab file that will get you to WM6.5
Good Luck, hope to hear all about your successes!

Very well said! I had grand illusions of "flash and be done", thought that on sat i will flash to 6.5, load my beloved cabs and be done! 4 hard reset later(yes a bit slow here, i will get it DI ), I isolated my problem to one cab that seems to always start the spiral to all icons in start going bye bye...
Ohh and don't forget the "Flash Addiction" that should be an early disclaimer on the noob wiki

flash addiction is a real problem, about a year ago when before my friend got his dream, he would have a new rom every 6 hours.

hi,i just purchased an unlocked tmobile mda online.iam unsure of the firmware version and everything, but i was just curious what rom would i use too get rid of the tmobile theme, software?i just want it too look like a normal mda with windows mobile installed,if possible, and still make calls and access everything else.let me know if this is possible.thanks
Yeah, what you're asking for is very much possible.
The easiest way would be to perform a ROM upgrade, that, however isn't always the easiest thing in the world. Things can go wrong and worst case scenario would be to damage it for good.
So, for that reason I would suggest that you take the time and read through some of the threads in this forum and at the same time get to know your device a little better before you go through with any kind of upgrading.

If dropping t-mobile stuff is all you want, then hard reset your phone, go through the setup screen until it prompts you that customization will start in 3 seconds. Soft reset your phone at this point... Voila, generic phone with no carrier customizations...

Got my kaiser/tytn2 today
So I am leaving herald community and venturing over to kaiser.
What do that mean for herald? Well, Im gonna finish my 3 latest projects. The rom for p4350 wwe, and the norwegian rom. And ofcourse I will finish the tutorial.
But thats not all I am gonna do, I am gonna upload the sys, oem and rom folders for both wing and p4350. And I am also gonna upload a section of oem packages, some I have made, but mostly stuff I have found all over the forum. I will make it easy and add the oem packages into the OEM kitchen folder. This means that when you choose to build your rom, you will get a list of whats inside the oem folder, and then you can check or uncheck w/e you want to include in your rom.
The files and folders are no longer limited to personal use, if you wanna share your rom, please do so. But the condition will be that all roms released using the kitchen files (oem, rom and sys) a note with credits to the one spending alot of hours building for you
Im not leaving completly, incase some few are gonna miss me Im gonna check in once in a while and help out, and follow some up on the tutorial.
I cant promise this will be done this weekend, but I can promise that it will be all finished sometime before next weekend. That include the tutorial.
Now Im gonna dump my norwegain kaiser, and see what can be done with it
cheers
We'll miss you... unless you buy me a Kaiser, and then I'll just be happy along with you. lol
Anyhoo, I think my kitchen is finally done, (I've yet to try out the last ROM I've made) and it's all thanks to your base ROM (Minus some tweaking...)
I'll also be using Hyperkitchen to make some more tweaked ROMs. Hopefully, I'll become the next itje... without a kaiser...
Congrats my friend and excellent that you received your kaiser. Is it the Kaiser 120 (with 3meg pixel camera and and video calling capabilities)? This is definitely a step up for you (and your phone, lol). This is a step I look forward to making in a month. Although you're going to be relocating to the Kaiser forum and your new home will be there, your frequent presence and guidance here will be missed for sure .. and I will go out on a limb to say that's on the behalf of everyone here, lol. I'm sure that forum will treasure your insight and expertise. I'm also happy to hear you're not just leaving us, you're still going to make guest appearances here, LOL, and remain a consultant (sort of speak) for us amateur and experienced rom cookers.
Remember, you can always come back HOME (here, lol), if thing don't work out over there, LOL.
As for me, I'm using your latest beta version now, but I think I'm going to downgrade and use version 2 for my herald instead due to it's stability, until you have the final versions posted. I'm struggling with the keyboard issue, lol. Itje, Thank you for everything. PS .. The kaiser forum will be my new home in a month anyway, lol. So look forward to picking your brain, lol.
Congrats on the new handset. I know Ive been eyeballing the kaiser for a while but I need T-Mobile to carry it so I can get the employee discount.
I think I can speak for the rest of the herald and wing users when I say that we appreciate all the work you've put into the wing and herald. And of course, I cant wait for the finished tutorial!

nice one itje will miss you too when you are not often around here in the herald forums ....
but the best thing is that you will upload the oem packages, sys and oem folder and that you will finish the tutorial. THIS IS F****NG GREAT
You will be missed.
Have fun with your new phone, I'm not quite ready to upgrade. I think I am going to see what HTC has up its sleeve next. Thanks for everything.
ITJE, I heard the Kaiser is a piece of crap. I suggest you get rid of it and stay with the Herald.
Seriously, I really appreciate all the work that you've done and given me much inspiration on cooking my own ROM for the Wing. You were like my Faria from the MDA forum when I used to carry that around.
I hope you enjoy your shiny new toy.
Lets have a farewell party and get drunk!!! haha
Oh, I am going to buy the kaiser whenver T-mobile USA releases it...
Its way too rich for my blood! Wing will do for now.
i don't mean to be a butt, but (lol) didn't you say that if we recooked and released one of your roms, you would stop cooking for herald? So now, can we do so without your permission? Or would you like to set another policy.

Reading this thread seems that Itje had bigger problems. Luckily his bigger problem by now is getting used to his new device.
Thank you for all your efforts and nice work. All of your "betatesters" come to this thread to say goodbye. That's quite nice. Maybe the forum masters should consider creating a hall-of-fame for all of those who made it worth visiting daily. You have my vote.
Good luck and, who knows, maybe be meet again at the kaiser's forum.
P.S. Again, I'll be connecting daily hoping to find your (last) releases...
so itje when do you think you will release all your stuff here? cant wait to grab it off and take your position in the herald forums maybe i will be the next rom cooker. until now i have read much hours instuctions to build an own rom and i had no problem using your excellent instruction you posted here .....
miss ya maybe i will catch up a kaiser to and follow you *smile*
Just wanted to say thanks to itje, if it wasnt for your ROMS i would have jumped ship to the Kaiser along time ago! I guess I was spoilt as a Wizard user with all the roms available, but it was nice to have at least one chef for the herald. Thanks again.
Thanks Man,
If you didn't help with the roms... a piec of this phone would have ended up in a tmo reps A$$..
Thanks again
enjoy the incresed power!
please do not resurrect month old threads. sorry if i sound like a butt (no reference to past posts intended, but it IS convenient)
I will miss you man.
If you were previously using the HTC or AT&T rom then i highly suggest you upgrade to Dutty's rom.
1. its faster.
2. way better battery life.
3. tabbed task manager at the top
4. more free rom and ram.
5. better design.
6. more i cant think of, try it! its great!
does it still have the colored touch flo icons?

Hope Dutty comes soon with a clean.. lite rom.. not to much added 3d party software
Does this new Rom also includes the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5 RTM?
look closer at the posts of his roms...they do have lite versions.

o but he does, his "lite" roms, i dont like them, i installed one on accident and there was basicly nothing on it. its extremely basic, i ment to install his touchFlo rom, so im downloading it now.
i dont think .NET 3.5 is already on, but its avaible right there on the topic.
I prefer Lite Roms because I can control better what to install, update and remove. I'm using his lite rom no. 6 and its awesome.
palm sms needed with mms control bad or palms sms that controls your entire sms through htc home etc

i thought that too, but this rom was soo "lite" that there was nothing unique about it. i mean it was really no different than installing a lite HTC rom.
How does one upgrade the ROM? Is it just a transfer like a cab and then installation in the device, or is it more complicated? Some instructions on how to do that would be very useful. Can you point out where to find them? If it all fails and one needs to go back, would a Sprite restore bring back the previous ROM? Are there any incompatibilities with pre-installed programs? The ftp site lists three different Hybrid TouchFlo programs. How do they differ? Which one is the best recommended?

Well actually there's virtually no apps installed, not even the HTC ones. That means that I can install the ones I want. When there's an update, I feel that I can "properly" remove the old ones and install the new ones. They also come with some tweaks already included, and .NET 3.5.
So it feels like a "base pumped" ROM which I can fully customize.
Please give us some instructions on how you install a new ROM.

yes i agree. its just that when i was saying his rom is unique, i think there's some pretty cool things on there, but im not sure what they are. like, i wouldnt know what to search for or what cab to install. so installing the lite rom i wouldnt even get those cool things.
however, if you want this rom not for the cool things he has, but for a blank rom, then the lite rom is the rom to get.

If you are a very experienced user you may want a Lite ROM.
However, I found the fully loaded ROM has many advantages.
1. You may have some very useful softwares that you may not even aware they exist. So you will never look for those to put into the Lite ROM in the first place.
2. You will learn to use more applications and figure out good and bad ones first hand.
3. In the Lite version, you'll always find that the software that you need for the moment hasn't gotten installed even you have it in your download library. You'll miss the time and being agonized. As time goes time, you've accumulated all the right softwares in your custom machine, it is time to replace the machine with a new one. The current one just have never reach it full potential.
Kaiser has plenty memory space, a few extra softwares are not to kill it not like TOUCH which really just got a pretty face and no guts.
I recommend fully loaded ROM for casual users. Extra softwares do not increase weight of the machine provided the extra softwares do not cause stability issue. Stability usually caused by bad software. One lousy one can do it.
For example, I won't mind if I can get a 32G SD card and people loaded all the games and MP3 and Video for me.

Yeah, that's exactly why I haven't tried to reflash my tilt - The "directions" in that post are so unclear and incomplete...
Someone who can write needs to create a step by step guide - no unexplained acronyms, a complete list of everything that is needed, and maybe a little explanation about why you have to do some of the steps.
I would happily write a post with this info, except that the directions for flashing are so bad that I can't understand how to do it.
Answer some basic questions, like, "can you flash an OS with no Radio - can you flash a radio with no OS?"
When you refer to downloading a ROM - Does that mean to the PC or to the device? OK, I've entered bootloader mode - now what? What's the next step? When I DL the ROM to the device, where should it be stored? What makes up a ROM? Is it one file or a bunch of files?
These are just some of the basic details that should be in a set of directions for flashing.
The HardSPL directions that are built into the install are pretty good - they step the user through every little detail. We need that for "flashing", because based on the information on this forum, it's not inherently obvious how to do it.

Jeff

First of all, please stop being so demanding when you are in the situation of asking for help. Nobody here has obligation to teach you what you need to do to YOUR phone. They don't get paid to do that. I would suggest you to head to tytn/Hermes' wiki page to learn more before you try on your phone http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
Tilt or tytn II are still fairly new device on the market. Since tytn and tytn II are similar in many ways, you can use hermes/tytn's wiki for reference. Many of us, myself included, learn the process of flashing, upgrading, downgrading, and modifying through countless experiments or through other members here. I'd say - flash your phone with hardSPL first, then you are safe to do the rest if you can follow the directions. Once again, I am not trying to discourage you to ask for help, but please do respect others and their works. They have contributed a lot of time to make this forum the best and make our phones even better.

I do not want to go offtopic, but you are waaaay out of line.
Ive been using online forums for 12 years now and have gotten to where I am because of nice, hardworking and helpful individuals.
Its Karma, in the end if you (people) help trick420 and I learn to flash our roms, they will benefit one day when they visit photography forums or want to travel to Northern Italy because I have posted very thorough articles and guides to Digital SLR Cameras and Lenses and travelling to places ive been.
His suggestions will in fact make this site better because it will allow others like him and me to learn and then eventually contribute to the forum. I personally am not a professional at WinMobile and have done my homework (read the wiki, googled terms, acronyms, procedures and so on) but have not really grasped the idea of flashing roms.
trick420 was not being demanding, you need to cool down.

Point taken, but my post was a comment, not a request for help, and was not demanding, just an observation. I'm just stating what, in my opinion, is wrong with the instructions posted so far. They lack so much information that a noob simply cannot figure out what to do at times.
A noob is just that - a noobie... How can you expect them to know that a Tytn is similar enough to a Tytn II that the same things apply? How would they know that?
The thread that Dutty refers everyone to that is a "noob" is now 11 pages long. The worst part of it is, the instructions on the first few posts don't even apply to Dutty's ROMs now because he's building them as an executable file (Great idea by the way), which makes me think he's simplified it to the point that you don't need to read the "flashing" ROM.
My point is this - if I'm a noob and I want to learn how to flash, I have to dig through 11 pages of a stickied post that is a year old just to figure out one step of the process. It takes way too much work to figure it all out, and then you'd better make sure that you don't forget something along the way.
Flashing a ROM should be a process to be learned by a noob, not a journey of discovery like it is now.
The wiki or sticky for flashing should be redone for clarity. For me, the flashing process is like a combination of a heavily fragmented hard drive and trying to find a windows registry key without the use of a search function.
Again, I'm not complaining just for the sake of complaining. If someone wants to send me a detailed process for flashing via PM or email for the Kaiser, I'll write it into a document that the average semi-technical noob can use. But until I figure all of this out I can't help. I'm a hardware and software engineer by trade, and I know as well as anyone that the one thing a programmer hates to do is to have to document a project or write a spec. I'm offering to do that if you programmers will support my questions and help me craft a good, readable document for the masses.
Regards,
Jeff

Me too, ill help write out the guide on a beginner to intermediate level.
I've been having major issues with my phone since I installed a TNT Series Rom.
My rom version is 11.0.0.1 WWE
Radio Version 2.25.11 (i just put this on to try to fix the issues)
I wouldnt mind going back to WM5 because WM6 seems to be soooooo slow, i'm aiming for stability because my phone's pretty near useless since it never rings when I get calls and It doesn't even notify me of voicemails.
I can't seem to find any current links for any firmwares to downgrade to either =/
Thanks in advance
You need Radio version 02.19.11. Anything else and you will get lost calls.

hm, damn, didn't know that, is there somewhere on the site that i can download that?
Have you noticed an option called "search" ?? On the top of this screen ??
yes... i have, thanks for that, i was wondering if anyone had a download link already in a thread they knew of, but thanks.....
Search on this forum is worthless. Try searching for "AT&T" with or without quotes in whole forum, get zero results.
I found this topic by Googling and I keep hitting deadends with jerks like you telling people to SEARCH instead of actually providing useful information. This topic is on the first page for what I'm looking for. I want the same thing - a stable, usable ROM for an HTC Wizard on Cingular (now AT&T). I've had nothing but headaches trying to upgrade this Wizard for a friend. It's been a nightmare with a flood of poorly designed and unsupported abandonware ROMS with bugs enough to make it darn near unusable, and biased tutorials that end me up with a T-Mobile Pocket PC instead of a Cingular PPC, with no information about how to make it appear to be a Cingular PPC again.
I've given up on WM6 on this Wizard and now I'm just looking for a working Windows Mobile 5 ROM again. Chances are, I'll have that figured out by tonight, but I'll still have this topic on watch so I can be notified when someone with half a functioning brain decides to reply. Damn this is frustrating.
(oh, and hi, first poast, olol)

unfortunately i have found THIS EXACT same results, except they were responses to other people's questions and i haven't flashed.. yet. i was preparing to, in about one cigarette's amount of time, until i found your post just now. very disappointing. i'm affraid of going to wm6 or 6.1 now.. for fear of the dropped calls some other guy in this post was complaining of, and the slowness you speak of. very unfortunate. i've spent 7 hours struggling with poor search capabilities to attempt to determine the best rom and any issues i might have. i was about to pull the trigger and you RUINED IT FOR ME. hahaha. so let me know how your event goes tryin to get back to wm5, in case i need to do the same

Here's a link to the original Cingular WM5 ROM. I asked a similar question a few days ago, and was graciously provided the link.
WRT fixing your problem, did you try downgrading to the Button ROM, and then reupgrading to WM5? Might make things easier for you.

I know this is quite an old post....but I thought I'd respond to his frustration, because I myself was in your same position around the time you posted this. I have a Cingular 8125 and when I bought it, it had the official T-Mobile ROM Windows Mobile 5. My first PDA. I came to xda by chance and read all the cool stuff. I became aware of what is called "Flashing." I must have read the tuturial a dozen times, and "flashed" it nearly 2 dozen times lol (or what I thought was flashing hahahaha) The only thing I noticed was a splash screen change. lmao. But after trial and error I finally flashed it! yea! hahaha. I then learned about the other stuff like ISPL or whatever hahaha and radio stuff. So to make my point... I never asked for any help! I just searched, and read, searched, and read, trial & error, trial & error. So instead of demanding answers, go ahead and read through the forums, I know you don't always get what you search for, but read some more! I can guarantee your question has been answered, and you might learn a few new things!
Good Luck!
although i am at risk of getting flamed for asking i am am scared ****less i'll read the wrong guide and duck up my phone.....i can't afford another one
i want to get rid of the vodafone software and the glitches the phone has. i want to completely reset my phone.
i need to know:
- which apps i need
- how to blank everything
- the os version i need which functions best on this hardware set up. (the tytnii)
hope someone is patient enough to help me out. my phone keeps doing odd stuff and it gets on my nerves
Read this entire thread. You can't fail if you read it all.
definitely check out that thread, and read the How to Flash your First ROM by Dave Shaw I think it is.
I would recommend grabbing the latest HTC stock 6.1 ROM (check the wiki for the links) and then go from there, trying custom ROMs as you see fit.
cheers all
thanks to all who replied.

As always the FAQs and stickies are your friend.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL%20Questions%3F
Oh and I really hope you don't actually WANT to brick your phone.
Just because you unlocked and hard spl'd your phone, nothing is going to change if you flash the same old Voda rom back on to it. What rom did you flash ?
shrugs
the one in the recommended guide
all i want to do is get rid of the vodafone crap and start again
to be hones, i don't really understand much of th terminology or exactly what i'm doing. just following instructions. i'm ust a little nervous (and lazy) some of the guides (while great and accurate from what i have tried) assume a lot of knowledge and when i have to start learning stuff like this it confuses me and i tend to not achieve what i wanted.
my phone has developed some odd and irritating behaviour not to mention being slow as hell sometimes
i would quite happily swap this phone for something without a slide keyboard if there is a bit of the board where ican do that
Well......again, what rom and spl do you have currently on the phone ?
A good thing to do for someone scared ****less .. sit back, don't touch the phone, and go through reading the FAQ as posted by others. Especially flashing for noobs by mskip.
Then look up on the Kaiser Wiki on this XDA site (google Kaiser Wiki). Read through and understand what Hard SPL is, what it means to unlock your phone, and why it's important.
Combine those knowledge, you're ready to flash. Otherwise, go and pay a visit to nearest shop that offers flashing service. Pay them, and if it doesn't work, sue them. Here at XDA we can help, but you need to pickup something before we can do much help.
i have windows mobile 6.1 on here at the moment.
i'm running windows mobile version 6.1
