music skipping: S2P player + M2D ROM - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

Hi-
I've been trying to debug this issue for about 2-3 months now.
I'm using this ROM on my Kaiser:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496555
As you'll see I posted a lot of activity on that thread regarding music skipping. To avoid continuing to clobber that thread, I'm opening this new one.
Currently I'm using Shifu's V10 ROM on that page and the recommended Radio that he is using.
Here's the jist of my problem: I've probably tried 10 or so different M2D ROMs from various cooks in the last couple of months. I don't know if my problem is M2D related, but with all of these, whether I'm using HTC Audio Manager or S2P, music doesn't skip with Motorola HT820 headphones which is good. However, when I'm in my car and connected to *two* devices at once via bluetooth (built in car kit for phone calls, audio gateway for music), I get the intermittent music skip.
I've tried *everything*:
- different ROMs
- Messed with advanced config bitpool settings, OBEX, etc
- FAT32 format of my SD card
- soft reset, killing all running apps before playing music
- turning off all power management of the screen and the device
- trying to let the music play in the car by itself without changing songs
I never used to have this skip issue with an old Dutty ROM I used. That ROM was Dutty's Hybrid V2 that had radio 1.65.14.06. This ROM wasn't a M2D ROM though as it's older.
I guess it could be coincidental that rather than being a new radio/ROM issue, that maybe I'm experiencing hardware issues with the audio gateway or something (it's been out in the sun and has gotten hot a couple times). I guess I can maybe try going back to Dutty's Radio, but I don't know what affects that may have on this current, newer ROM.
If anyone can help please let me know! This is the *only* issue I've been having with this new ROM (which I don't even know if it's ROM-specific or just radio related or HW combination).
Thanks a lot,
David

I think it's solved
power lines are doing it....

Try another RADIO, when you flash a ROM, the wrong radio could cause music to skip, the camera not to work and just overall silly perfomance. You can search XDA for the Ultimate Radio page which has AlLLLLLLLLL of them. Good Luck....

Tilt: Music Playback Audio Problem (Glitch 'skip' heard every 3-4 minutes)

When listening to MP3 music on my Tilt, I hear an annoying glitch or blip (albeit brief) which occurs every (approx) 3-4 minutes. Though it can be heard thru the Tilt's built in speaker too, it's most evident when heard thru headphones connected via MiniUSB to 3.5" stereo adapter.
If I go back and replay the same musical passage where the glitch occurred, the glitch isn't heard, so the problem isn't in the MP3 file. In addition to playing the music utilizing Windows Media Player, I also installed 3rd party media player: "Pocket Player 3.5" and maximized the audio buffer settings, but this made no difference/improvement.
Considering the fact that a number of other 8925 Tilt owners have also reported the same problem, while prior model 8525 owners report they don't experience this problem, suggests that the 8925 Tilt may possess a unique software/hardware issue (bug?) which needs to be addressed and rectified. This said, are any HTC Kaiser/TyTnII owners experiencing this?
I encourage At&t Tilt & HTC Kaiser TyTnII owners who enjoy listening to music on their Tilt, to please take time to critically listen to music (MP3's) on your phone and report YOUR findings.
Thanks for your input,
Jazz
No problems with stereo at all-even with bluetooth stereo-not talking about calls-stereo definetly not an issue here. sorry, but cannot repro your issue. Have a 4 gig SD card with 3 gigs of tunes that I listen to all the time, no issue like you report.
Alemaker, first of all, great to hear you're not experiencing music playback problems on your Tilt. That said . . .
The problem I'm experiencing has nothing to do with stereo at all, but a glitch (blip or skip sound) heard every 3-4 minutes while listening to MP3 music. It's most evident heard thru headphones (connected to Tilt utilizing a usb to 3.5" stereo adapter) but can also be detected when played directly via the Tilt's built in speaker as well.
Here are a couple of links to threads on the AT&T- HTC forum where others have reported this same problem:

I admit, I have noticed this also. And yes, its not a glitch with the song. The files are fine. It's seems more like a time-based issue, or perhaps a buffering issue.
And yes, I noticed it with the HTC audio player, WMP, and PocketPlayer. It doesn't bother me much, but I definitely notice it, like you say, every 3-4 min or so. And it happens with BT A2DP or with wired headphones. It is very brief (like not even 100 ms.). I'm reading all my music from a 6GB Sandisk Class 4 MicroSD card. But it happened with my old 2GB MicroSD card also.
Try this. Lately, using PocketPlayer, I haven't noticed it as much. I set the cross-fade on for 4 seconds, and I don't think it happens as much if at all. This again leads me to think it's something to do with buffering...But I have no idea. It does bother me slightly, but not enough to get concerned about. I mostly listen to music while I'm working out, so I just ignore it...

Just not happening for me, but I know exactly what you mean. Skipping at regular intervals. I'll listen closer, but haven't heard it yet. Doesn't mean it's not happening on some sets-just not on all
Could Music Playback Glitch be tied to specific OS ROM Version?
Realizing the fact now that some Tilt owners are experiencing the problem whiles others aren't, is making me wonder if perhaps the problem may have to do with what specific OS (Rom version) is installed on your Tilt:
My AT&T Tilt's OS version is:
Rom version: 1.57.502.2
Rom date: 8/25/07
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
Alemaker & jomo25: curious to know what OS (ROM version) is installed on your Tilt?
ROM check procedure:
Start > Settings > System Tab > Device Information
Thanks, Jazz
I also get this on my v1615. Not as often as every 3-4 minutes, but if I listen to a whole album it will happen a couple of times. I'd say the first time it happens would be around the 4 minute mark though as it usually skips in the first or second track.
Rom version: 1.56.161.4
Rom date: 9/12/07
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
I get this too on my Vario III. It's not quite long enough to be annoying, but it is enough to be noticeable.
I've only been using the HTC media player and assumed it was a problem with that. Apparently not though.
if you use pocket player.... under advanced optiones, set decoder priority above normal to see if it helps!
I get the blip too! Ever so slightly annoying, but releived its not just my Kaiser.
T-Mobile Vario III
ROM version: 1.56.110.4
ROM Date: 09.01.07
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
Same Issue Here
I also have the same problem with brief skips during MP3/WMA playback.
Since my Tilt was running the HTC WWE Ship Rom within 15 minutes of arriving, I cannot say if the problem exists on the stock AT&T rom.
However, I have experienced this issue on the WWE HTC rom, austinsync's BIGstorage rom, and XDA-Live 1.0 rom.
Could it possibly be an issue with the pagepool size?
Are you listening to music that 'mixes' in to the next track such as dance music? For some reason there has always been a glitch as it starts the next song, no matter what player or ROM. The only answer i found was to convert the whole album to 1 single track.

I have about 70 songs from a bunch of different artists. I usually hear the "gap" at random times in random songs, but never near the beginning or end of a track.
I'm having the same problem with my Tilt with the stock ROM and using TCPMP. Can't say as it bothers me much, but it is happening.

Tilt XDA-Live v 1.0
sorry, still not having issues, can't repro this at all
I had that problem on my TyTN II! But I fixed it eventually.
Mine was caused by S2U2. After a couple of seconds S2U2 would activate even while playing music. That caused the glitch in sound. I simply removed S2U2 and that solved it.
Hope this helps you!
TILT "Skipping Sound"
I am experiencing "Skipping" sound too, VERY ANNOYING. We should have brought a Nokia 95 (Unlock) or IPhone. Learn and live. Owners of the IPhone and Nokia 95 are not having audio skipping problem. There is a design flaw in the circuit. Remember the Tilt is "First" generation. We will have to wait for Tilt version IX for the audio to be skip free.
The Solution: Buy an ITouch for X'mas. The audio is "PERFECT".

getting Mortplayer to output to bluetooth

I have the ATT tilt version of the kaiser
the rom is dutty's dual touch v1
that rom or possibly the iphone theme had given me an issue with the camera and some other glitchy issues like speakephone speaker not working so i installed a differrent radio which pretty much fixed those but i cant get mortplayer to play the music out of my headphones and if i use windows mp or htc audio manager it playes great through the heaphones (insignia ns-bthdp) but i want to use mortplayer because it has the equalizer built in solving the whole no equalizer for kaiser issue...
also the audio only outputted through the speakerphone (in mortplayer) for a couple of songs after re-pairing the headset and such it would no longer play throught the speakerphoner anymore ieither
so im still really new to al this stuff and am pretty much winging in in most places. i just wanted to know if anyone can make sense of these things but primarily i just want to use mortplayer + BT headphones
so far i have tried :
all forms of resetting headphones/re-pairing
every menu and settings i could find within mortplayer
lol i was used to modding my ipod with linux but this stuff.. is a new ballgame
and im not a programmer of any sorts
ps. so sorry if this has been answered a million times but i swear i looked for a good while but im at the point where my brain is fryed
have you tried btaudio?

Bluetooth A2DP keeps skipping

Hey looking to see if anyone else is having this problem?
I have the Samsung SBH500
And I've read up on other issues with this but this seems to be a bit odd.
Most people put the cause up to having both the Handsfree and Wireless Stereo on at the same time or when the phone is changing cell towers.
Well mine skips when it's just connected to Wireless Stereo although not as often as when both are connected. Also I know I'm not changing cell towers because I'm not even moving and right now have no reception anyway. Also happens in areas when I do have reception but not moving.
Anyone know a fix for this?
Edit: Distance does not seem to affect the skipping. As in, I do not think that moving around is causing this problem cos i just walked into the other room with headset and could still here it.. Just every so often it will cut out for a few seconds. A bit annoying when you're listening to your favourite song is on and it cuts out the best parts...
Headset also works flawlessly on my PC, laptop and other mobile phone.
Edit again: Using Dutty's latest 6.1 ROM and application used to run the music is HTC Audio Manager
Sometimes it will run smoothly, sometimes will just skip for a few seconds and then run smooth again, other times it will constantly skip for seconds at a time and you hear your music in random words.
I have the Sony MEX-BT2500 which has the A2DP audio push and hands free. Both are on while I drive and I get an occasional minor skip every 10 minutes or so - which I guess is considered normal?.
Check the device's partnership settings in the Bluetooth Wireless Manager. Try deleting the partnership and re-associating it with your device.
You might also want to consider the patch in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284974
It seems to work on the TyTN, might work with the TyTN II too.
Good luck.
The only time I've noticed mine skipping is when I try to send a text message while it's playing or a very brief hiccup when I hit the power button to turn the screeen on/off.
In my experience BT Audio playback skips when I have WiFi on at the same time or I am opening a big program / file. Otherwise I have no skips. I am using my aging Motorola HT820 to stream music via A2DP.
Thanks guys for your replies but I figured it out.
Using the Advanced Config, which I guess is just Dutty's version of KaiserTweak, I changed the bitpool to 72 from 64.
Now it's working flawlessly.
Haven't noticed any real lag in the phone since doing that so yeah. Might work at a lower rate.
This setting is also on KaiserTweak if you don't have Advanced Config.
Other values may work that are lower, I just went straight to 72 and was happy with it. Too lazy to test lower cos requires too much Soft Resetting and I'm not patient enough hehe.
Also Jimmyy - I saw that thread but didn't think it would make a difference as Tytn uses WM5 whereas I'm on WM6.1. Figured any software issues in WM5 would be fixed for WM6. Thanks anyway mate.
I just wanted to add that I set my bitpool to low using kaiser tweak, and finally my Motorola S9's became useful instead of near useless.

Please help me Masters. TIA!
Thanks for letting me know that. Cheers!
Maybe we can figure it out. It has always bothered me a bit, but never enough to look into the problem. I know that it works fine on some other Android phones. We need to poke around and see if there is any debugging output that can be enabled for Bluetooth. We have all the source code, but sometimes it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
If I recall, the build you mentioned was based on Fresh Froyo, so that's the source code to look at. Also, Scooter1556 made a CyanogenMod buiid of Gingerbread from different sources, and I haven't tried that very much. Can anyone report whether bluetooth controls work there?
I have to confess that I've been using my Tilt2 (HTC Rhodium) recently, with xdandroid. It is very similar to Fresh Froyo, but faster because the device has more memory. The larger screen helps too. But the battery meter is poor like ours was a year ago, so I have a little work ahead of me on that device. Yet I haven't abandoned the Kaiser completely. No promises, but I'll poke around and see if I can figure out how the bluetooth pause, play, next, previous, and volume buttons work in WinMo and why they don't do anything in our Android builds.
BTW: I don't know about the radio, but the best kernel so far is the Scooter1556 kernel with separated cache, especially for NAND installs.

OMG!!! Some Masters did reply to my post!...Hope im not too late for this!
I have a friend who is using Samsung I5510 built with Froyo 2.2.2
and media buttons on my headset works fine
Well the problem is dont know how to extract the driver or configuration of that ROM and install it to my kaiser. (i dont know as well if android works that way)
Just the forward/next Play/Pause buttons are not working, never mind the Volume control as Bluetooth headset has its own controller
Hope this helps and thanks in advance!!!

A2DP Bluetooth Issues Since GingerBread... Haven't REALLY Found Anything About It!

Hey there fellows,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S I9000 that I've been using since Froyo. As an accesory, I've always used the Motorola S9-HD A2DP headset to listen to music and take calls wireless.
The thing is that ever since I've started flashing GingerBread ROMs (stock), it started to mess up.
Let's begin to enumerate the issues:
1) After having the device paired, simple turning the headset on wouldn't connect to the phone (as it worked before 100%)
2) With the headset turned on, if I go to the Bluetooth menu on the phone and "click" to connect, it would say connecting and one of this things would happen:
- "Connecting..." would display forever until I shut the BT radio off
- It would connect and immediately disconnect, even sometimes the headset shuts down too!
- It would connect to one of the profiles: the audio one or the headset one, but not both
- 1 out of 50 times it would connect to the audio profile online and finally be able to play music through them
3) While the headset is playing music (i.e. connected), I turn it off, and sometimes Android keeps showing the icon as connected, for like 10 minutes, until it eventually times out
As you might guess, I've been searching since this arised for a solution, comment, similar behavior reported from other users, etc, without luck; neither here at XDA, Google or other related forums. I've found some *similar* stuff like car audios disconnecting but finally they fixed them or were some issues with the car app or something, unrelated to this.
This started happening ever since the first GingerBread I've flashed; now I'm on stock JVS and the same thing still goes on. I've tried before flashing any kernels (as stock as it gets) and this happens too. I've tried after flashing pretty much every kernel (to see if they somehow fixed this) and the problem persisted.
Let me be clear the the headset works great; if I use it with another phone (Nokia) it doesn't present any of these issues; neither did here before GingerBread!
So far, the only remotely possibility to use it fine and that works 95% of the times is:
1) Erase the headset memory of paired devices
2) Erase the phone memory of paired devices
3) Pair the device
As you can imagine too, doing this EVERY TIME I want to use the headset is an awful lot of pain!
Well, thanks for your time and for reading so far... any kind of pointer, advices, consolation that you can provide would be more than thanked for!
Best regards,
Anyone?
sorry no solutions from me.....but I did incur a similar situation when I flash jvq stock (music player would stop playing music and make bootanimation sounds)before flashing over to re by darky.....since being on darkys the problem has gone.maybe try a custom rom!!!

That's a good thing I didn't try! I refrained from flashing a Darky because all the "extra" steps involved besides directly flashing the files from Odin and also the auto voodoo lagfix kernel that converts unless you put the files to NOT to on some directory... plus the "bloated" experience over a stock ROM.
I think I should try one though, and also think that the BT should work OK in stock too! First I'd like to confirm if it's a "known" issue with the Ginger ROMs or not...
Anyway, thanks for your advice, might flash Darky soon!
its amazingly easy to do...just follow the guides to the word.....
