Diamond ... To Buy or not to Buy :-)

Being a user of HTC touch that just died... :-( I am looking for my next Phone.
I have 24 hours to decide if I shall buy the Diamond or not. You are the best people to suggest as you are the current users...
I had a look at the diamond Pro but just too large and heavy for my needs
Your Suggestions will be highly apreciated. Also If you can recommend a good trusted online supplier in Europe that would be great too!!!
George the Greek
well if you liked Touch....you will definitely love Diamond (if u don't need hardware keyboard )
if u can afford it, get a Touch HD
If Touch Pro is too big for you, Touch HD is even bigger.
When it comes to size, you can't go worng with Touch Diamond. It is the size of a pager. I have bought a slim case for Diamond that I can wear on my belt. Loving it.
get a diamond
flash with a cooked rom...and your good to go
look here...just brought a item from them..ultra fast and great company
here is a start point for a diamond for you
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/16495.htm
if you take a diamond you MUST cook a newer rom, the original one could be a bit outdated & so... disappointing
Thanks but they seem to send only in UK .... I am currently in Malta.
:-(

bye,
davide
I bought the diamond 2 days ago...
If you want to install tools and go online with it... forget it! it's really slow!!
I prefer my old N81... much better!
And Windows Mobile... slow slow slow and windows-like (had to make 2 hard resets so far)
I'm thinking to give it bake and buy a N96...
not possible... with a light & recent rom you can reach the same performance as an iphone (I have a fellow with it)
for the navigation speed, if you go online only with umts, you have to increase some parameters in your registry, because they have a middle level values to work also with gprs connections
I saw the n96 the past weekend in a shop, I played a bit... very annoying, with a windows mobile even if it isn't perfect possibilities are undefined
Anymore feedback....??
Sounds like a 50 % Yes and 50% No so far... :-(
baisically, You do want to get a Diamond, as long as you dont ming playing with it to get it setup right.
If you havent had a windows mobile phone before, you wont notice the difference, its only people that have had a more baisic windows mobile phone before, with less feastures/graphics that say it is slow. because, comparatively it is.
Buy one, stick with standard for a while, then Flash a new ROM radio once you know your way around it and are comfortable with Hard SPL etc.
Thanks mugglesquop! I am pretty confident with upgrading Roms, SPLS etc ... you see being an owner of HTC touch had to do plenty of these upgrades
thanks once more.
WOuld you reccomend any decent europena online shop at good prices?
Handtec are pretty good, thats where i got mine.
I even managed to return it after it developed some problems...
these things do require work to get the best out of them but once that's done, boy do they shine . i have had mine for just over a month and am still on a stock ROM but i have tweaked it so much and can't stop touching it .
Best phone i ever had.
I bought htc and I sold it after a week, i thought that is slow etc etc, when i checked another pones didn't liked none of them so i decided to buy again HTC Diamond, when u get familiar with it after a month nobody will change it with any another phon just to remember you should not install to many applications because than will work slow like windows xp or similar.
regards
usually, as long as you install to Internal Storage (as opposed to memory) and you remember to properly shut programs (not minimise), you can have loads installed, i have! still runs very quick.
The device can do nearly anything you wish (as you are aware) and is nice and compact...you can even carry it in a shirt pocket
Of course you have to update your ROM (which you said you can and will do...) which is a must
However,...there is a cost of course to having such a light-weight device...power!!
If your prepared tocharge your device on a daily basis your good to go! You will also find the GPS frustrating...it works, but quite often you have put it in a circle of candles and pray for connections
All in all, I would recommend purchase.....however I'm looking forward to the "NEW" Diamond II when its dreamt up.....you know.... bug free
never had a problem with GPS...

A Request...I'd be willing to donate (within reason)

Hi all,
I know we've got some great cooks here, and so I'm hoping one of them will help! I have been playing with ROMs since I got my Tilt2 (ATT) and I have been pretty happy with some of them, yet still not quite completely satisfied. Some come close to what I want, but all seem somewhat finicky with my ATT phone (my wife has refused to let me play with her Verizon Touch Pro 2, something about me breaking it
For me, the holy grail of ROMs for this phone would be:
A fast, Manila 2.5+, Windows 6.5 (or 6.5.3, if its rock solid) ROM with no frills or cooked in software.
A simple user interface, something normal but snazzy looking. If it could be like the original Verizon one that'd be awesome, if not the normal HTC would be fine.
Basically, I want a stripped down speedy version of the normal HTC look, but haven't been able to find it. I MIGHT be able to learn how to cook my own, but cannot currently spare the time as I'm in grad school.
If anyone could help, that would be AWESOME!
if u dontmind trying... try DA_G rom... its built for AT&T so your keyboard will work just fine its 28206 built and lite... alot of rom and ram space... no manila 2.5 so i was using SPB mobile Shell Pro...

Hi,
What do you mean? if you mean wifi, yes. HD7 can. but I frequently just use the data plan except when in areas with wifi.
Was considering Desire HD and HD7 the other time. went to Singtel, my local tele provider and heard from their sales HD7 not on sale yet but with ex-stock. then i review WP7 on their demo set of LG Optimus and was sold. HD7 did not disappoint. super fast and slick.
But you gotta understand it is still in its early stages of developments. not as much apps and stuff in marketplace. so gotta wait for some time. and the options to change in the phone is quite limited. but nonetheless, it has got enormous potential. that is wat i am sold on.
Also, i am tired of the old android and iphone interface so WP7 is something new.
Cons of HD7 is the soft ringtone, sms and alarms. the volume is really soft. but for games, blown away playing Sims3 on it.
Also, batt life is short. average usage is 1 day. NEED to charge daily. but not a concern for me since I have always plug my phone in daily.
Lastly, because it is dammn new in the market, not much accessories available. so using it bare now with Martin Fields protector. Hope to get more accessories real soon.
Conclude: Did not regret 1 bit getting the phone. really impressed by WP7 and look forward to improvements rumoured in Jan 2011.
hopefully I helped.

its really personal choice
I like the design of the HD7 more, but its personal.
Android is better for apps and configurability, but the screen display is a mismash of ideas and having active widgets on the home screen is fiddly and uses up power rapidly.
Windows Phone is much slicker and easier to use, and the active tiles are genius and will become more powerful over time. However the apps are limited (although all the essential stuff and good games are there).
You pays your money and takes you choice
IMHO WP7 is at the beginning and buying the HD7 means that you have many years of cool software updates and support
I assume, by wifi hotspot, you mean using the phone as a wifi router, using the phone's data connection.
This isn't an option at the moment - you can't even use the data via a cable.
Whether this is something that will be added, or something MS agreed never to introduce to save the network's data, I don't know.
If I never needed to use a phone as a wifi router, I'd probably just charge up my old Touch Pro, and use that.

Looking to buy a HTC HD7

Hi just looking for a bit of advise I currently own a HD2 and have had various OS options etc. running but really like Win 7 so looking to sell the HD2 to get a HD7
but not 100% sure if it can be unlocked etc. I have spent a lot of time going though the XDA forums but seem to be getting conflicting views on if this is possible. Key for me is to be able to unlock the phone to T-Mobile UK .. I would also like to be able to install the Navigon App.. If I buy say a UK O2 locked HD7 will this be possible ?
I was looking to change my HD2 for the HD7 also, but I asked a few questions on here before now and there doesn't seem quite the support you get in the HD2 forums, I have lots of questions about the HD7 also and would love to know the thoughts from people who have changed an HD2 for the HD7?
I changed 20 users from HD2's to HD7's. Everyone is QUITE pleased. Minor annoyances (sub par camera, although identical to HD2) and the like.
It's seriously night and day as far as typical user experience is concerned from WM 6.5/Sense 2.5. Does WP7 lack features? Yes. Does WP7 have a small Marketplace? Yes, but it grows daily, and there are some fantastic apps out there for WP7.
All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend an HD7 to someone, especially coming from HD2's.
HOWEVER
If you like flashing custom roms, loading whatever .cab files you want, direct access to the SD card, this phone is not for you, unless you really want to dig deep.
Personally, I love it, and so do 18 of the 19 other people I converted. (the lone holdout still cries about a blackberry)

[Q] Should I get an HD7?

Okay I'll try to keep it short and sweet.
>Buy HD2 in 2010
>End of 2011 digitizer dies and phone gets permanent white screen brick (no clue how honestly)
>Now hate HTC because they're dicks about their faulty phones and repairs
>I'm due for an early upgrade from T-Mobile and I could get the new 710
>The Radar is nice but 8GB won't cut it for me plus I don't feel so good about a white phone, also much more expensive than say an used HD7 or a new 710.
>Seeing lots of cheap HD7's on eBay
>Getting boners
So the question: Considering that the HD2 and HD7 are such similar devices, are the digitizers as big of an issue as with the HD2's? I would literally burn the HD7 if I wake up one day the the digitizer goes off on me. Also, are there any popular/ common issues with the HD7 I should be aware of? Really considering the HD7 since I loved everything about its older brother the HD2.
Using a Samsung Comeback now and this phone is killing me, literally. I feel like I'm in 2006.
Input appreciated.
Samsung is better right now
I have had hd2 used for a year and now my cousin is using it. Then I bought an hd7 but really I would prefer hd2. Now I am using galaxy s2 and hd7 is as a spare phone.
If you can find a nice Schubert (HD7) cheap, get it...the memory can be upgraded and there are custom roms for it. I've had mine for over a year, the keyboard bug is the biggest problem but an update is coming.

similar situation
hey, guys. newbie here
since i wanted to basically ask this question, i thought i would just ask here and not bother opening a new thread.
all i want to know is: is this phone worth getting?
www[dot]eglobaldigitalcameras[dot]com[dot]au/htc-hd7-t9292-16gb-unlocked.html
anybody happen to know if this will have any problems in flashing custom roms? (i really don't want to have to do gold card)
i hope i'm not hijacking this thread :\ but thank you to anyone who replies
hi bro
i have an iphone and recently bought a new hd7 (8GB) but the exiting point is felt in love with it!
for example in start menu microsoft used some exiting animatione
and somthing else that microsoft isn't like apple or other companies and they're helping hackers to make the best os ever
in my opinion if you want to have a wp7 device HD7 is like monster
and for flashing custom roms simply do these works:
-goto boot loader (by pressing vol down + power up)
-load RSLP/HSPL
-run ROMUpdateUtility.exe on your PC
-click update then wait
Note: don't download the wrong rom for your phone because it can seriously damage it
Don't buy WP7 phone, get an Android!
Your GPS will be useless, there is no app other than online downloading ones that require 3G. Get android and iGo with offline maps, be free!

And see, I myself am an Android user/owner, for the past 2 years... and I'm over here looking to jump ship.
It all comes down to preference. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Android, but it gives me something to tinker with ALL DAY LONG. I find myself wasting 6-8 hours a day (at home and at work) tinkering with the phone, researching mods, flashing ROMs, reloading apps after flashes... I spend more time tinkering with the phone than I do actually using it!
I'm 39 years old for crying out loud - I don't need to be throwing a 3rd of my day away playing with this toy! LOL! I'd rather have something that looks great as is and just works!

Untrue.
Navigon now uses offline maps. Also Nokia Drive. Upon first setup asks you what maps you want to download.

hi, in my opinion you should go for an htc hd7. right now its hardware is not quite up to par with the latest phones out there esp droids but its the combination of the fluid and smooth OS with respectable hardware performance that still makes the hd7 a joy to use ^_^
I'm getting one because I love windows phone 7, the ui is like melted butter! So smoothe, no lagg.
I also am personally switching from android, mostly because I cracked the screen on it.
Though android always seems to have a sluggish and laggy UI, even with the most top notch specs.
I played around with many of the WP7 phones on display, and I love them.
The only draw back idea have to say, is the lack of apps to choose from. The games from Xbox live are pretty fun though.
