Try this link, if it doesn't work go to the development section and it's on the second page. I run windows to, but I explain how to do everything on ubuntu with out installing anything. It's a live cd so you just boot it, it don't install anything and when you done it goes back to windows. Its easy.

Really you should have the linux-swap extension at 32 meg. Anything more can cause lag.

my question is how big do i make linux swap

32MB is a good size. Larger, and you'll get instability. Yes, it is safe to make your ext3 with Paragon. And yeah, you can upgrade an ext2 to ext3 using Cyanogen's Recovery Image if you don't make it ext3 in Paragon.
yo thanxs bro
ill see what happens
well im trying to do it with paragon
and its only letting me put in 33.1mb will it
make it unstable????

I was told 32 could be to small and you might need as high as 92...... whenever i did 32 it still was laggy .

I've heard a random report or two of people using big swaps, but general experience (personal, plus other users chiming in here) is that as the swap gets bigger, the stability goes down. The system may be fast in the beginning, but as junk collects in your swap it will get laggy.
Honestly, I'm still on 24MB.. Left 32MB of space but only started with 24MB, and it runs fine for me. Keeps my browser in memory when I go reply to a text, that's what I worry about.

Need help, hero rom very laggy!!!!

I followed the exact steps from this forum and everything went smooth, but why is it that i only have 20 mb of free phone memory left after doing a new hero rom flash using jachero 2.7.4, is the apps automatically save to sd, cause if they are i dont think they are saving to the sd card, also do i have to do a linux swap or something like that to make this phone run faster, please help me people.

hero rom is much bigger then the normal G1 rom that is why you are seeing the lag. What is the size of your linux swap and what is your swappiness set to?

well the little room after flash is probably due to the sdcard NOT setup right... I had that build before and the before and so on and the space I had every time was 84mb free after boot and YES the appstosd on this build is automatic. The sdcard should have the fat32 partition first and then the ext2 partition 2nd. To setup the partitions I would NOT use ubuntu .. I ran into mounting issues with gparted .. I have had NO issues with the sdsplit found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3582509&postcount=52
set the 2 partitions first and then setup the linux-swap partition using ubuntu .. I had mine inbetween the fat32 and the ext2 .. and YES you NEED the swap partition in the 2.7.4 build as it no longer uses swapper.

Goodbye to 80% of the members then lol. just keeding. I think people just need to learn how to read the first post of each thread they read. I recommend setting min/max cpu freq to 528, and having linux-swap of 32MB at 20 swappiness. @ demoyo, make sure you have your partitions at the least in this order:
FAT32/EXT3
or if you want a linux-swap:
FAT32/EXT3 (1.5GB or less) /Linux-Swap (32 to 64MB)
The 20MB free internal memory is signaling that your apps to sd isn't working properly, which probably mean you didn't partition your sdcard correctly.

You don't use the Swapper app anymore. As long as you have a linux-swap partition done correctly it is automatic. You can however change the swappiness settings in /system/bin/a2sd (it is the number in echo 30 > ...)
ok so im a noob, even with the dummie walkthroughs and all, i still quite dont understand swapping, so i have a 1gb memory card already in the phone formated to fat32, i have hero rom jachero 2.7.4, and u said linux is already in it and i dont need swap, can u pleasae tell me how to do swapper with a tutorial for dummies for bigger dummies lmao, i need help dont understand lol i would love you people forever and stop buggin u
Hang in there I am the same way learning all the new ropes and I myself dont understand the swap settings eaither

Ideally you need an ext and linux-swap partitions, but if you don't want to for whatever reason you can just install the "Swapper" app from the market. A linux-swap partition is much better but this is the next best thing.

Well said. ANother note is that if you are using the stock 1gb card then you will not notice much speed improvement no matter what you do because of having such a slow SD card. I would not recommend and thing less than a class 4 (Class 6 is the fastest).
If you plan on staying with the stock card you should probably look into another ROM.

Browser reloads pages unneeded!

Hi folks, my problem is the unneeded page reloads when re-opening a Tab or going back to the , in background running, browser!
like... when having 2 or more tabs open and switching around (or back) it reloads the page! That nervs! Its not needed in my opinion! Same when surfing, going to the "desktop" and back to the running browser, it does the same! anyone has a tip for me ??

you will need to add a linux-swap partition for backing swap. compache is enabled by default. to do that use the resize command in parted in the recovery console

How did you partition the card? I am a total noob like you but I have a decent grasp of this stuff. I'll try and help using noob language. Did you partition the card using adb or using an auto-partitioning function from a recovery screen?

Read up on this helpful guide. That will help you partition your card right. Once that is done.... apps2sd is automatic.
Good luck

Easier but not as beneficial for someone who doesn't even know how to partition a card. Trust me I don't sit there and do everything in terminal neither... but... I know how if I had to and I think it's the right way. Also... I was not about to instruct someone to install a recovery just to partition a card.
This is happening on both my mytouch and g1....so I need help for both
So you cannot go into terminal on mytouch...
Used the recovery screen on Ra dream 1.2.2

Good to know you got it done.
I didnt get it done. Apps are still taking up memory from both the phone and sd..????
My sd memory from the partitioned portion has only gone down From 447MB to 352 MB
And my phone memory is at 281MB
I deleted some things already, correct me if Im rong, but there should be no internal storage being used right?
Have you dumped your caches? That is the main culprit for me when my internal phone memory gets low...
yes I did...but like I said if apps are going to sd then they should not be taking internalk memory
I guess I see what you are saying... I have the same issue... I just thought it was the name of the game...
do you have adb? if not, you should set it up. you can view the directories on your phone and see where apps really are for sure. i think root explorer in the market will allow you to see it to, but it's a paid app. adb is something you should have either way.
I had 55MB / 89MB left on my g1 running the newest cm.
went into the application settings, then manage applications. Went down to GMAIL and Browser and cleared cache and data.
Now my memory is:78MB / 89MB

Possibly memory on your phone not memory disk is full. May need to move some installed apps to SD card.

Did you ever partition your internal memory to anything but 2gb. Seems to happen when people partition differerent from the stock 2gb.

Yeah I did partition it! A few weeks ago it just shut down on me then started in bootloop nothing I did worked until partitioning the drive. How can I fix this? And can I just un-partition reload the rom? Got the step by step? lol

You partition it the same way you did it before. Using clockwork. Just pick 2gb, and 0 for swap and the problem should go away. It will delete all the stuff on your internal sdcard so make a copy if it's important. And then reload whatever rom you like.
